Crockett Family Promotions & National Championship Wrestling presents...
"Crockett Cup '95" Tag Team Tournament
Live Saturday night, January 28th
Asheville Civic Center
Asheville North Carolina
The show began with Joe Pedicino in the middle of the ring, flanked by Jim Crockett Jr. and his brother David Crockett. With them in the ring was a trophy standing 5 feet high. Joe welcomed the fans and promised them an exciting night of action. Jim Jr. then took over and welcomed everyone, and promises to bring great "old-school" wrestling back to the Carolinas. He said that tonight, a tradition almost 10 years old resumes, as we will crown a new winner of The Crockett Cup. He said we have 12 tag teams here tonight, with 1 alternate team, and all are excited and ready to go. 4 teams will receive first round byes, and they have been determined to be the top 4 teams in the tournament. Those teams are Don Muraco & Bob Orton, The Andersons, The Cole Twins, and The Heartbreakers, Frankie Lancaster & Wendall Cooley. With that, David said ring the bell, and lets get this show on the road!
First Round Match 1: Sam Houston & The Colorado Kid vs. Ivan & Vladimir Koloff
The babyfaces hit the scene first to a nice ovation from the crowd, while the Koloffs came out to a lot of boos. The action was quick to begin with, but slowed down when the Koloffs took over and worked on Colorado Kid a while. After a breakdown, and all four in the ring, Sam Houston caught Vladimir with a running bulldog for the 3 count to win the first match of the tournament at 11:20. They will face Muraco & Orton in the next round.
First Round Match 2: Bushwhackers vs. Masked Superstar & Manny Fernandez
Not hard to guess that the Bushwhackers were the favorites of the fans in this one, and gave Star & Bull a good going with all their comedy stuff, but in the end, Bull caught Luke Williams with his Flying Burrito, and Superstar slapped on the Cobra Clutch for the TKO finish with Williams hand dropping 3 times at 8:03. They will face the Andersons in the next round
First Round Match 3: The Texas Hangmen vs. Jimmy Valiant & Mando Guerrero
Another match featuring comedy, as Valiant used all his usual tricks. Guerrero hit a few nice flying moves, but the Hangmen kept switching out illegally and finished off Guerrero with a double clothesline for the pin at 8:16. They will face The Cole Twins in the next round.
First Roud Match 4: The Batten Twins vs. Virgil & Ice Train
Before the match began, as Virgil and Ice Train were heading to the ring, they were attacked from behind by "Wild" Bill Irwin and Black Bart, the alternate team. They dropped Virgils arm over the railing a couple of times. After several minutes of checking things over, it was decided that Virgil and Ice Train couldnt compete, so the alternate team of Irwin and Bart are now in the tourney.
Didn't matter though, as The Battens worked circle around them to take the match on a cross body from Bart onto Irwin for the pin at 6:00. They will face The Heartbreakers in the next round.
Second Round Match 1: Don Muraco & Bob Orton vs. Sam Houston & Colorado Kid
The experience of the veteran heel team overcame the speed of their opponents, and Muraco finished off Houston with a piledriver for a pin at 9:45.
Second Round Match 2: Brad & Bryant Anderson vs. Masked Superstar & Manny Fernandez
The Andersons are young, but come from a good pedigree. Superstar and Fernandez dominated the match, but it was a miscue on their part that allowed Brad to roll up Fernandez for the pin at 12:05.
Second Round Match 3: Cole Twins vs. Texas Hangmen
The Hangmen tried a lot of dirty tricks, and kept control of the match by constantly illegally switching out. In the end though, it was a switcheroo by the Coles that allowed Keith to cradle Killer for the winning pin at 10:00.
Second Round Match 4: Heartbreakers w/Magnificent Mimi vs. Battens
The Heartbreakers strutted to the ring in nice robes, and Mimi stripped both of them down. The fans were all over them as they threatened to leave if the fans didn't shut up. In the match though, they were all business as they worked down the Battens and finished off Brad with a spike piledriver for a pin at 9:37.
Semi-Final Match 1: Don Muraco & Bob Orton vs. The Andersons
Same story as the last match the Anderson were in, as their opponents dominated them right up until the end. Muraco accidentally clotheslined Orton into a school boy rollup from Bryant for the pin at 10:50. The fans gave the Andersons quite an ovation upon the announcement that they have qualified for the finals.
Semi-Final Match 2: Cole Twins vs Heartbreakers
Maybe the best match of the night as the two teams had a good back and forth battle. In the end though, Lancaster dropped Kent Cole throat first on the top rope, then Cooley dropped a leg from the top for the pin at 13:44.
Special Attraction Match: Sir Oliver Humperdink presents Big Ron Studd vs. Todd Morton
Big Ron Studd just dismantled Morton, and finished him with a double handed choke slam at 2:33.
Afterwards, Humperdink gave a long promo running down the Crockett family, and every famous good guy wrestler from the area, and said that with Studd, he'll finally take his revenge on all that have wronged him.
The trophy was rolled out to the ring, and the Crockett Brothers came out and once again thanked everyone for coming, and said that this will not be the last time National Championship Wrestling is here in Asheville. Jim then announced their next show, taking place in two weeks at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in Spartanburg SC. It will be a one night tournament to crown the first NCW National Heavyweight Champion, and a match that they just signed, it will be Bill Irwin & Black Bart facing Virgil and Ice Train.
Pedicino then introduced the final match.....
Final Round Match: Brad & Bryan Anderson vs. The Heartbreakers w/Magnificent Mimi
The Heartbreakers took the Anderson kids too lightly after their first two showings, and the Andersons used that to take turns working over the left arm of Cooley in fine Anderson fashion and tradition. The heels took back control though and put a beating on Bryant. At the end, Lancaster had Bryant up for a body slam and was parading around the ring with him. Brad ran in and dropkicked his own partner over onto Lancaster. He cradled him and got the three count to give the Anderson family their first ever Crockett Cup in 14:02.
The fans celebrated, but the Heartbreakers did not. They attacked the Andersons, left them laying, then left with the trophy themselves.
Pedicino wrapped up the exciting night of action to end things.
