WKPT TV-19 in the Tri-Cities, WATE Channel 6 in Knoxville, WKPZ Channel 4 in the coal field region of VA and WV, and WKPI TV-24 in the Pikeville KY area
- Les Thatcher and Johnny Weaver opened the show side by side in front of a black back drop with the SMW logo in the background and welcomed everyone to the show saying that Smoky Mountain Wrestling is on the air!
Les said that it was a big night of action this past Wednesday at the Civic Auditorium in Kingsport, and they have highlights of it on tonight’s show. Weaver chimed in and said that Smoky Mountain Wrestling always has the best wrestling around, and Wednesday night was no different. He and Thatcher talked about the controversial ending to the Smoky Mountain title match between champion Orndorff and challenger Terry Taylor and they go to highlights of that match:
- Taylor captured the first fall after 14:10 of fast paced action when he caught Orndorff with his patented “Fivearm” move and pinned him. The champion showed resiliency and rallied to take the second fall after 7 minutes of action when Taylor was counted out of the ring.
The third fall was decided when Taylor once again connected with his “Fivearm” move knocking Orndorff to the mat, but also knocking the referee down and out when Orndorff flew into him from the force of the move. With the referee unable to call the action, Orndorff used an illegal low blow on Taylor, and then delivered his piledriver hold to put Taylor down. He covered Taylor and referee Mark Curtis came to and counted the deciding pin fall at 9:30.
(about 5 minutes in all was shown, and featured the finish of each fall)
- Out of the highlights, Thatcher and Weaver talked about “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan coming to the aid of Taylor and the battle he had with Orndorff after the match. They then went to a promo taped with Orndorff after the match in the locker room in front of the back drop, where a sweaty and worn out looking Orndorff was clutching the title belt and said that Duggan had no business getting involved, and that Duggan had to jump him from behind to have a chance in a fight against him.
- Thatcher and Weaver said that Orndorff was quite upset and they both look forward to a match between Orndorff and Duggan at some point in the future.
- They shifted gears and said that Duggan won a hard fought battle against Lord Jonathon Boyd on Wednesday night in a “flag” match. They then went to highlights of it:
- “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan defeated Lord Jonathon Boyd in a “Flag Match” in 12:44. Duggan brough his American flag to the ring, and Boyd brought his New Zealand flag. The two flags were placed in opposite corners of the ring and the first man to capture his opponents flag was declared the winner. Boyd put up quite a fight, but Duggan leveled him with three consecutive flying tackles and captured his flag to win the bout.
(about 5 minutes were shown of the end)
- Thatcher said that Duggan had a few words at the end of the evening as well…
Duggan said that he finally showed Boyd that the American flag will always fly higher than Boyd’s, and any time Boyd wants some more of ol’ Hacksaw, just come get some. He then said that Paul Orndorff better hold on to that belt with everything he’s got, cause Hacksaw’s coming after it!

- A pre-recorded interview with Ron Wright and the Jive Tones saw Wright ranting and raving that the Rock and Roll Express may be a good tag team, but they ain’t as good as his Jive Tones. This Wednesday night at the Civic Auditorium, they are going to beat the Jive Tones again, and if Ron Wright sticks his nose in the match again this time, they’re gonna have something for him too.
- Out of the interviews and back to Thatcher and Weaver who say that will be quite a main event on Wednesday night. They then said that on Thursday night, Smoky Mountain Wrestling will be at the high school in Grundy Va for a special night of wrestling action, where The Bullet will be taking on Lord Jonathon Boyd in a big encounter. A quick blurb was put up on the screen with Chip Kessler reading off the details of that show in Grundy VA on Thursday like where to get tickets, start time, and what not.
- Back to Thatcher and Weaver as they then talked about The Bullet returning this past week, as he and Scott Armstrong teamed up to beat David and Joel Deaton in tag team action. They then cut to a taped interview with The Bullet:
- The Bullet said it’s great to be back in east Tennessee, and was great to team up with Scott Armstrong and get a win on Wednesday night. He then said Hello to all the fans in Grundy, and said that on Thursday night he’s gonna pick up where Jim Duggan left off and take the fight to Jonathon Boyd, and show him not only how things are done in the USA, but in the south especially.
- Back to Thatcher and Weaver who reminded everyone to come out to the high school in Grundy Va on Thursday night to see that one, plus several other great bouts.
