Smoky Mountain Title Match Tops Card
at Civic Auditorium Wednesday Night
Smoky Mountain Wrestling returns to the Kingsport Civic Auditorium this Wednesday night
with a stacked card full of action that will be topped off by Smoky Mountain Heavyweight
Champion, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, defending the title against Terry Taylor in a Best
2 out of 3 falls match.
Six weeks ago, Orndorff claimed the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight title when he defeated
Terry Taylor in the final match of a one night tournament to crown the first champion.
Taylor has been adamant about getting a rematch with Orndorff for the belt, claiming that
Orndorff cheated his way to victory that night. Orndorff used his patented move, the piledriver,
to score the win against Taylor that night. The piledriver is a move where the attacker puts
opponents head between his legs, lifts his body vertical, and then drops him with all of his
weight down head first into the mat. The move is outlawed in the state of Tennessee, and
should have resulted in the disqualification of Orndorff. However, the referee did not see
Orndorff apply the move, so he was not disqualified.
Terry Taylor has went on record saying that he is the better wrestler, and has just been
waiting for his opportunity to get another match with the champion. Taylor says that this
Wednesday night, he will beat Paul Orndorff and win the title, or he'll leave the Smoky
Mountain Wrestling area.
The champion made a statement this past week that Taylor should have his bags packed
when he gets to Kingsport this Wednesday, as he plans on sending him packing for good
when he beats him a final time.
The main event contest is scheduled for 2 out of 3 falls, which means whichever wrestler
is the first to score two decisions will be declared the winner and champion.
Also on the card...
Former and founding member of the famous Four Horsemen, Ole Anderson, is scheduled
to meet Sam Houston in one on one competition this Wednesday. Last week, Anderson
faced Nelson Royal, and was attempting to injure Royal when Houston came to the rescue.
Anderson quickly issued a challenge to Houston after the match, which Houston gladly
accepted.
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Lord Jonathon Boyd are scheduled to face once again on Wednesday
night, but this time with a twist on the traditional rules of winning. Since both men have brought
flags to the ring in their previous two encounters and used them against each other, this week's
bout is slated to be a "flag match". Each man's flag will be placed in opposite corners of the building,
and the first man to get his hands on his opponents flag will be declared the winner.
In tag team action, The Bullet returns to east Tennessee Wrestling and will team up with Scott
Armstrong to tangle with the dastardly Deaton Brothers, Joel and David. That match is scheduled
to be a one fall contest.
Vladimir Pietrov will be making his debut in the Smoky Mountain circuit on Wednesday night
in singles competition with his uncle, Ivan Koloff, at ringside. Koloff is promising big things
from his talented nephew, and says he has the making to go all the way to the top and win
the World Heavyweight Championship.
Bell time is 8:00pm this Wednesday night at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased
in advance at the Civic Auditorium ticket office, the customer service counter at Singleton's, or
Big Johns on Hwy 11W. Tickets are $5.00 in advance, or $6.00 at the door.
Smoky Mountain Wrestling will be debuting in the Tri-Cities on WKPT-TV 19 next Saturday night at 11:30pm right
after the local news.
