THE AMERICAN WRESTLING ASSOCIATION PRESENTS . . .
SUPERCLASH II
LIVE ON PAY-PER-VIEW
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1988
KIEL AUDITORIUM
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
Rod Trongard is at ringside, along with Magnum TA and Paul E. Dangerously.
Tonight the American Wrestling Association makes their debut on Pay-Per-View with SuperClash II! We’re at the “MSG of the Midwest”, the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis, Missouri. This city and this arena have seen more World heavyweight title changes than just about any other . . . will we see another one tonight?
Magnum thinks so, he says he’s known Steve Williams a long time, since Williams first broke into the sport in the Mid-South region, and has never seen him more focused. He thinks that, despite the injury Doc suffered a few weeks back, Williams will leave the Kiel Auditorium tonight as the new World’s champion!
Dangerously says Magnum is delusional, Williams will be wrestling with only one good leg, not that it really matters, because Rude is by far the superior athlete. Paul believes the Ravishing One will retain the title tonight, and force Doctor Death into early retirement!
We’ll also see two other AWA championships on the line, as “Hacksaw” Butch Reed puts the TV title up against Dick Slater, and World Tag Team champions the Islanders defend against the team of “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and Iceman Parsons! Last weekend on “Championship Wrestling”, Snuka pinned Islander Tama in a singles match, we’ll see if that translates into success here tonight for Snuka and Parsons!
Plus, Sgt. Slaughter faces Matt Borne in what will no doubt be a wild grudge match! A new tag team in the AWA, the Fantastics square off with “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Crippler” Rip Oliver! A huge 6-man tag team match will take place, as General Skandor Akbar’s Devastation Inc faces off with three AWA legends in Wahoo McDaniel, Jerry “Crusher” Blackwell and Baron von Raschke! Two of the most technically sound wrestlers to ever step in the ring team up, as former World’s champion Bob Backlund teams up multiple-time AWA Tag Team champ Greg Gagne, to face the duo of “Mr. Magnificent” Kevin Kelly and “Hollywood” John Tatum! And rounding out the show, former Olympic wrestler Brad Rheingans takes on the behemoth Nord the Viking!
BRAD RHEINGANS VS. NORD THE VIKING (w/ General Skandor Akbar). Rheingans tries to wrestle a scientific match, unfortunately for him, Nord’s got more than half a foot and almost 100 pounds on him! The Viking powers out of any holds that Rheingans tries to apply! Rheingans gets a lucky break when, as he’s on the mat, Nord runs the ropes, leaps into the air and attempts a kneedrop, but Rheingans rolls out of the way. Brad then slaps on a leglock, but Nord is able to use his other leg to kick Rheingans off. As Nord gets to his feet, Rheingans hooks him, looking like he’s going to try a suplex, but Nord repeatedly punches him in the ribs, causing Rheingans to let go of him. Nord then hoists Rheingans up over head in a military press, and drops him to the mat. As Rheingans slowly climbs to his feet, Nord bounces off the ropes and nearly decapitates Rheingans with a running boot to the head! That’s all she wrote for Rheingans, and Nord gets the 1, 2, 3!
BOB BACKLUND & GREG GAGNE VS. “MR. MAGNIFICENT” KEVIN KELLY & “HOLLYWOOD” JOHN TATUM (w/ Sherri Martel). Backlund and Gagne get the win when Sherri attempts to spray hairspray into Gagne’s face, but he ducks out of the way, and Kevin Kelly gets the hairspray in his eyes instead! Gagne then rolls up the blinded Mr. Magnificent for the pinfall.
Trongard, Magnum and Dangerously talk about the 6-man tag match coming up next.
We take a look back at video footage of Devastation Inc in action, as well as Akbar introducing the One Man Gang as the newest member last Saturday on television.
DEVASTATION INC: BIG VAN VADER & MR. SAITO & ONE MAN GANG (w/ General Skandor Akbar) VS. WAHOO MCDANIEL & CRUSHER BLACKWELL & BARON VON RASCHKE. This is a wild affair, and several times throughout the match, we get all six men in the ring at the same time. Late in the match, as Vader and Saito brawl with Wahoo and the Baron outside the ring, the two behemoths, Blackwell and Gang, square off one on one in the ring! They tear into each other, with Blackwell getting the upper hand, but as he runs the ropes to deliver a splash to the Gang, he’s tripped by Vader. Vader then slides back into the ring, and he and OMG pummel Blackwell, hitting a double clothesline that sends the Mountain from Stone Mountain through the ropes and to the floor. A few minutes later, the referee is able to get some order restored, and we’ve got Vader and Raschke as the legal men. Vader pummels the Baron, and soon after, he delivers a thunderous Powerbomb for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, Larry Nelson enters the ring and talks with Devastation Inc. Akbar says that his men are unstoppable, the sky is the limit! He says that he’s setting his sights on all three of the AWA World titles, and it’s only a matter of time before Devastation Inc has all the gold!
THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY FULTON & TOMMY ROGERS VS. “PLAYBOY” BUDDY ROSE & RIP “THE CRIPPLER” OLIVER. The Fantastics get the win after hitting Oliver with the Rocket Launcher for the pinfall.
Trongard, Magnum and Dangerously discuss the upcoming World Television title match between champion Butch Reed and Dick Slater.
A video package is shown, highlighting Slater’s issues with the Pringle Dynasty. We see the Dynasty injure Slater’s friend and tag team partner Jim Duggan, putting him out of wrestling, then Slater bringing in Ole Anderson to beat Matt Borne and Buzz Sawyer for the World Tag Team titles. From there, we see clips of Reed and Slater brawling during a recent 6-man tag team match, where Slater teamed up with Terry Taylor and Steve Williams to face Rick Rude, Matt Borne and Reed. The video ends with Slater confronting Reed on TV a few weeks ago, and challenging him to a match for the TV title.
AWA WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP:
“HACKSAW” BUTCH REED (Champ) (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. DICK SLATER. Slater goes after Reed as soon as the bell rings, with Reed bailing to the outside to talk things over with Pringle. There’s nothing pretty about this one, these two are looking to just beat the other into a pulp! Slater dominates the early going, and gets a couple of nearfalls on the champion. Reed battles back, and nearly puts Slater away with a vicious diving clothesline off the ropes. Slater, however, is able to get a shoulder up at the last second. Soon, they take the battle to the floor, where Slater repeatedly rams Reed’s head into the apron, but the champion responds with an elbow to the gut, and then runs Slater into the ringpost!
Back inside the ring, referee Randy Anderson is counting, though neither combatant seems to care. At the count of 10, Anderson calls for the bell, declaring the match a double count-out! Slater and Reed don’t even notice, they continue to brawl, with Slater eventually grabbing a chair, and he clobbers Reed with it before the champion and Percy Pringle decide to get out of Dodge!
AWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE ISLANDERS: HAKU & TAMA (Champs) (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) VS. JIMMY “SUPERFLY” SNUKA & ICEMAN PARSONS. We’re treated to an excellent, fast-paced match here. Snuka and Parsons match up with the champions very well, and it seems like this one could go either way. In the end, Parsons has the upper hand, and whips Tama into the ropes, while bouncing off the far ropes himself. Parsons doesn’t see Tama reach out and tag Haku as he hits the ropes, and as Parsons and Tama meet in the middle of the ring, Tama ducks under a running clothesline attempt from Parsons, with the Iceman then running right into a savate kick from Haku! Parsons collapses to the mat, and he’s out like a light! As Tama keeps Snuka from getting involved, Haku covers Parsons for the 1, 2, 3!
Larry Nelson is backstage with The Fantastics: Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers. They talk about their win earlier over Buddy Rose and Rip Oliver, and Fulton says they’re looking for a shot at the World Tag Team titles, and to prove they’re deserving of a title match, they’ll gladly face any team who wants to get in the ring with them.
SGT. SLAUGHTER VS. “MANIAC” MATT BORNE (w/ Percival Pringle III). It’s time for the first of our two main events, as Slaughter squares off with Matt Borne. Slaughter hasn’t forgotten the attack on him by Borne and Buzz Sawyer when he officiated the match where Borne and Sawyer lost the World Tag titles. Slaughter has been asking for a one on one match with Borne ever since, and finally gets it here on Pay-Per-View! Borne gains an early advantage, but the Sarge soon turns the tables, and it’s all Slaughter from there on out! Slaughter eventually connects with the Slaughter Cannon for the 1, 2, 3!
As the cage is being set up for the final match, we see a video package highlighting the rivalry between AWA World champ Rick Rude and Steve Williams. We see the tournament final where Rude beat Williams for the Western States title, which would be recognized as the AWA World title after the name change to the AWA. We see clips of the later rematches between the two, and the footage ends with the vicious attack on Williams a few weeks ago by Rude, that left Williams on crutches.
STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR THE AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
IF WILLIAMS FAILS TO WIN THE TITLE, HE WILL RETIRE!
“RAVISHING” RICK RUDE (Champ) (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. “DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS. Williams comes to the ring first, still on crutches. On commentary, Trongard wonders how effective Williams offence will be, with only one good knee. Dangerously says Rude is a genius, and Williams’ career is going to end tonight!
As Rude and Pringle make their way to the ring, as they get to ringside, Williams suddenly tosses the crutches out through the door, and starts jogging around the ring, and jumping up and down . . . HIS KNEE IS FINE!!! The look on Rude’s face is priceless, as he realizes that he no longer has the advantage he thought he did!
With both competitors inside the cage, the door is closed, and the bell sounds. Williams goes right at Rude, who begs off, but Williams is having none of that, he tears into the champion, hitting Rude with a flurry of lefts and rights! Rude scrambles towards the cage, and tries to climb out! Williams pulls him back down, and proceeds to send Rude, face-first, into each of the four sides of the cage! Williams then targets Rude’s back, looking to soften him up for the Oklahoma Stampede. Rude hits a low blow to turn the tables, and then pummels Williams. He whips Williams into the corner, and follows him in with a clothesline. From there, Rude grabs Doc by the hair, and proceeds to grind his face into the cage!!! That opens up a gash over Williams’ eye. With blood running into his eye, Williams still fights back, blocking a right hand from Rude, and delivering one of his own, then another, and another! With Rude stunned, Williams delivers a big haymaker that puts the Ravishing One on the mat.
Williams wipes the blood out of his eye, and then pulls Rude up by his hair. Williams gives Rude a taste of his own medicine, grinding Rude’s face into the cage, drawing blood as well! We’re only about 6 minutes or so into the match, and both men are bleeding!
Rude uses a thumb to the eye to turn the tables again, and starts digging at the cut on Williams’ eyebrow. Before long, Williams is wearing the crimson mask, and Rude has the match well in hand. Rude delivers a kneelift that puts Williams on the mat, then goes to the top rope . . . but keeps climbing, right up to the top of the cage! Rude steadies himself as Williams gets to his feet and leaps off for a double axehandle . . . but Williams catches him with a shot to the gut, and Rude flips in the air, before landing flat on his back on the mat! Williams covers him, but Rude kicks out at 2!
Williams stays on the offensive, and gets several more nearfalls, but can’t put Rude away. Williams goes back to working on the back of the champion, and then hoists Rude up . . . and hits the Oklahoma Stampede! Williams covers the champion, and the referee starts the count . . .

Williams grabs Rude, and cinches him up for a suplex, but Rude is able to block it, then somehow finds the strength to reverse it, taking Williams to the mat. Rude lays some vicious kicks into the head of the challenger, then starts digging the toe of his boot into the cut over Doc’s eye. Rude targets the neck of the challenger, repeatedly driving his elbow into the back of Williams’ neck, knocking Doc to the mat. Rude picks him up . . . and delivers the Rude Awakening!! Rude covers Williams, and the ref starts counting . . .

Williams has just kicked out after the Rude Awakening! On commentary, Trongard, Magnum and Dangerously are all shocked!
Williams is woozy, and his face is covered in blood, but he somehow fights his way back to his feet. Rude grabs him, and cinches him up for another Rude Awakening . . . but Williams breaks free! Williams plants a boot into Rude’s midsection . . .
DOCTOR BOMB!!!!
Williams delivers the Doctor Bomb, a move we rarely see him use. Rude is flat on his back on the mat, Percy Pringle is going ballistic at ringside, seeing the World title slipping away!
Williams is exhausted, and he just falls on top of Rude to cover him. The referee starts counting . . .
