We see footage of last week’s main event, where Jim Duggan and Matt Borne got involved in the match between Dick Slater and Buzz Sawyer, with all four men brawling in the ring!
Rod Trongard opens the show, and welcomes his co-host, Magnum TA.
This week, we’ll see a rematch from last week, between Dick Slater and Buzz Sawyer, but tonight, AWA President Stanley Blackburn has added the stipulation that Jim Duggan and Matt Borne will be handcuffed together at ringside, in the hopes that it will keep them from getting involved in the match!
Plus, we’ll see a new young tag team in action, Flyin’ Brian Pillman and Steve Doll. Many fans will remember, from his days in the USWA, a man who earned the nickname “Mr. Torture”, Masa Saito. Saito will make his AWA debut here tonight!
“HACKSAW” BUTCH REED (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. DAVID SAMMARTINO. Our opening bout is a match between two powerhouses. On commentary, Trongard and Magnum talk about David’s father, Bruno Sammartino, and put David over as a potential future superstar. Reed has his hands full with Sammartino, but in the end, the Hacksaw gets the win after connecting with a diving shoulderblock from the second turnbuckle for the pinfall.
Larry Nelson interviews Reed and Pringle at ringside after the match. Reed says that a couple of weeks ago, he challenged whoever won the TV title match between Terry Taylor and Eddie Gilbert to face him, but so far, his challenge has gone unanswered. Pringle says that his Dynasty already controls the World heavyweight and World Tag Team titles, and if Taylor ever finds the guts to face Reed in the ring, the TV title will belong to his Dynasty as well!
Reed tells Taylor to stop ducking him, and sign on the dotted line, give him the title match that he deserves!
Trongard and Magnum talk about Christmas day, only a few weeks away now. Trongard says that they’ve got a full day of wrestling planned, an afternoon show will take place right here at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, and then that night they’ll be at the Met Center in Bloomington. The main event for the Met Center has been announced, as “Dr. Death” Steve Williams will look to win the AWA World title from champion “Ravishing” Rick Rude!
“COWBOY” SCOTT CASEY VS. THE MASKED TERROR. The popular cowboy took on the mysterious masked Terror. Casey eventually got the pinfall victory following the Bulldog.
Trongard and Magnum talk about a new team that will make their debut in just a few minutes, consisting of Flyin’ Brian and Steve Doll! Trongard says that both these young men are just a couple of years into their careers, but have already shown plenty of promise. Magnum mentions that Pillman played pro football for a few years, first for the Cincinnati Bengals, and then for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.
FLYIN’ BRIAN PILLMAN & STEVE DOLL VS. BOBBY BRADLEY & COBRA. Pillman and Doll prove themselves an exciting young team. They have some trouble with Bradley and the masked Cobra in the early going, but eventually get the win after hitting Bradley with a double dropkick, and Pillman covering him for the 1, 2, 3!
After the decision is announced, Larry Nelson interviews Pillman and Doll in the ring. Pillman and Doll both talk about how happy they are to have made it to the AWA, the major leagues of professional wrestling, and they are setting their sights on tag team gold!
“MR. TORTURE” MASA SAITO (w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) VS. ICEMAN PARSONS. The popular Iceman Parsons has his work cut out for him here, as he faces off with the sadistic Masa Saito. Saito attacks Parsons from behind before the bell even sounds, and goes to work on him. Saito focuses on the back of his opponent, and throughout the match, hits several different suplex variations. Parsons tries to fight back, but his back has been weakened at this point, and when he tries to deliver a suplex of his own, his back gives out, and Saito falls on top of him for a very close 2-count. From there, Saito delivers his signature Saito Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
Larry Nelson is ringside with “Dr. Death” Steve Williams. Williams talks about pinning Rude in the 6-man tag team match a few weeks back, and says that once he gets a title match with Rude, the fans are going to have a new World champion, someone that they can be proud of.
Before the start of the main event, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and “Maniac” Matt Borne are handcuffed together, and then take a seat at ringside. The two jaw with each other as they’re being cuffed together.
“MAD DOG” BUZZ SAWYER VS. DICK SLATER. We’re treated to a wild, hard-hitting affair here, as Sawyer and Slater pound away on each other. As the match progresses, Slater gets the upper hand, but when he whips Sawyer into the corner, the Mad Dog charges right back out with a clothesline, not only dropping Slater, but catching the referee as well!
With the ref down, Butch Reed charges down to the ring! Reed finds the key to the handcuffs in the ref’s pocket. While that’s going on, Matt Borne sucker punches Jim Duggan, then takes the key to the cuffs from Reed, and unlocks them! As Reed pummels Duggan with a chair on the outside, Matt Borne slides into the ring, with the handcuffs, and helps Sawyer pummel Dick Slater! After giving Slater a vicious beating, they handcuff him to the ropes. Outside the ring, Reed throws Duggan into the ring, and follows him in, still holding the chair that he used to bloody Duggan.
Inside the ring, with Dick Slater cuffed to the ropes, Buzz Sawyer, Matt Borne and Butch Reed continue to pummel Duggan, with Slater getting the occasional shot from the chair as well, knocking him senseless. With both Duggan and Slater bleeding heavily, Reed drops the chair to the mat, and he and Sawyer proceed to give Duggan not one, but TWO, spike piledrivers right onto the steel chair!
Finally a group of wrestlers, led by Steve Williams and TV Champion Terry Taylor, are able to get past the heels blocking the aisleway to the ring, and run the Pringle Dynasty off!
Unfortunately, the damage has been done, and while Slater has to be helped from the ring, Duggan is loaded up onto a stretcher and carried out.
As Duggan is being loaded onto the stretcher, Trongard and Magnum wrap things up.
