Play by Play: Rick Stuart
Color: Mr. Wrestling II
Interviews: Joe Pedicino
Special Guest on Commentary: Nick Bockwinkle
Rick Stuart and Mr. Wrestling II were at ringside to welcome everyone in to the show, and Stuart introduced their special guest on commentary tonight, former Pacific Champion Nick Bockwinkle. Stuart runs down the card, saying that tonight's 2 out of 3 fall main event is Haku & Tama defending the Pacific Tag Team Championship against the undefeated Viet Cong Express! We'll also see the debut of Shaun Simpson from Australia, and the hated Col. DeBeers in action in a tune up match before his showdown with Pacific Heavyweight Champion Don Muraco next week. Wrestling II and Bockwinkle banter back and forth a bit before Rick Stuart threw it to Bonnie Blackstone....
Bonnie Blackstone was in front of a PPW backdrop and talked about how the best wrestlers from all over the world come to the islands to compete with the best, and next week, one of the top wrestlers from the Great White North, Ben Bassarab, will arrive here in PPW. She then introduced a video package full of highlights of Bassarab. Out of the video, Blackstone said that Bassarab will be here on the Power Hour next week. She then threw it back to Rick Stuart at ringside.
Rick Stuart said it will be exciting to see Ben Bassarab here next week, but now, let's go to the ring for the debut of the exciting Shaun Simpson from Australia!
Match: Shaun Simpson vs. "Wildman" Jack Armstrong
Simpson started off fast on Armstrong and had him rocking with dropkicks and a flying body press, but Armstrong was able to escape to the floor before his shoulders were counted down. When he came back in, he was able to take over with a quick rake of the eyes. He worked over Simpson for a while off of that until Simpson ducked a clothesline and came off the ropes with a flying clothesline of his own to take back over. He controlled the action for a while with headlocks and chinlocks, but again, Armstrong was able to gain control by throwing Simpson to the floor. He followed him out and rammed him into the apron several times before throwing him back in. He worked over Simpson some more as the ring announcer announced that only 2 minutes of the 10 minute time limit remained. Armstrong tried several moves to put Simpson away, but was unsuccessful each time. Armstrong missed a charge in the corner and knocked himself silly, which allowed Simpson to climb to the top and launch with a dropkick! He quickly covered Armstrong and got the three count with less than a minute left in the time limit!
During the bout, both Mr. Wrestling II and Nick Bockwinkle talked highly of Simpson. Bockwinkle also put over the toughness of "Wildman" Jack Armstrong.
WINNER: Shaun Simpson
Rick Stuart called the replay of the finish and then threw it to a commercial break.
Commercials
Back from the commercial break, and Joe Pedicino was in front of a PPW backdrop, along with manager Hiro Matsuda and his group of wrestlers including The Great Tenyru, "Maniac" Mark Lewin, and High Chief Onasahi. Pedicino asked Matsuda about his threat to Jumbo Tsuruta. Matsuda said that it wasn't a threat, it was a promise. The Great Tenyru is the greatest athlete in Japan, and is going to prove that by defeating Tsuruta. Pedicino said that their time will certainly come, and then asked of the whereabouts of Kokina, the Giant Warrior. Matsuda said that Kokina is in intense training and will be back soon. Pedicino then asked about why Lewin is here. Matsuda said that Mark Lewin is a dangerous man, and can server numerous purposes to his organization, so he is now part of the family. Pedicino thanked them for their time, and then threw it back to Rick Stuart at ringside...
Rick Stuart then introduced the following match...
MATCH: Colonel DeBeers vs. Pat Rose
DeBeers took a few shots from Rose early, but quickly took control and dominated the action. He finished off Rose with a piledriver at the 6:00 mark. Afterwards, he went to the corner where he had dropped off a bag. He opened the bag and pulled out a long black glove covered with studs. He put it on his right hand. He lifted Rose from the mat and drilled him in the head with it, laying him out. When the camera panned to the face of Pat Rose, he was bleeding from the shot. DeBeers held his gloved fist high as Joe Pedicino entered the ring with a microphone.
WINNER: Colonel DeBeers
Joe Pedicino joined DeBeers in the ring for a quick interview, where DeBeers said that this will be Don Muraco's last week as Pacific Heavyweight Champion, because next week on the Power Hour, he is going to hurt, and defeat him to become the new champion. He said that he has been challenging Muraco for weeks now, and the coward has finally decided to answer. He said that next week, it's simple. He is going to drop him on his head with a piledriver and 3 seconds later, Don Muraco is going to be the former champion.
DeBeers raised his hand again before leaving the ring as Rick Stuart threw it to commercial, saying that when we return, it's time for the main event!
COMMERCIALS
Back from the break, and Bonnie Blackstone was standing in front of the PPW background. She ran down the action on the Power Hour scheduled for next week, saying that in the main event, Pacific Champion Don Muraco defends against Colonel DeBeers in a 2 out of 3 falls match, we'll see Canadian star Ben Bassarab for the first time, and a favorite of the military crowd here at the barracks, Cpl. Kirchner will be here! She then brought in the Pacific Tag Team Champions Haku and Tama who were on their way to the ring. She got a quick comment from them and said they appear very confident.
Back to ringside, where Rick Stuart announced the 2 out of 3 falls main event....
MATCH: 2 out of 3 Falls for the Pacific Tag Team Championship
Haku & Tama vs. The Viet Cong Express
1st Fall: Both teams were going full speed to start off with, with the champions seeming to have the advantage early on. Things slowed down some though when the Viet Congs trapped Tama in their corner and worked him over for a while. The two Viet Congs tagged in and out quickly and used a variety of nerve holds to wear down Tama. He got an opening though and fought out of their side of the ring and made the tag to Haku who came in on fire and rocked both of the Viet Congs. He had complete control of #1 and tagged Tama back in. Tama quickly fell victim to a leg lariat from # 1 though, and #2 quickly came in and hit a handspring elbow in the corner. #1 came back in and dropped Tama with a belly to back suplex, and then quickly tagged #2 back in, who bounded to the top rope and launched with a backflip splash for a three count to win the first fall!
Rick Stuart and Mr. Wrestling II were stunned that the champions had lost the first fall, but Nick Bockwinkle quickly reminded them that the Viet Congs have been undefeated since arriving in the islands. Stuart said they would be back shortly with the 2nd fall....
Back to Bonnie Backstone at the PPW backdrop, and she reminded the fans watching that they can come out and see the stars of PPW this Wednesday night at the Rec Center in Hilo HI for a packed night of action!
COMMERCIALS
Back out of the break for the start of the 2nd fall, as the Viet Cong Express continue to work over Tama and looked to put him away quickly and end the match. Tama managed to hang on though, and after #1 missed a dive, Tama leaped to his corner and tagged in Haku who came in with a thrust kick for #1 AND #2 when he came into the ring! Haku was on fire and dropped #1 with a Samoan drop before tagging in Tama. Tama mounted the top turnbuckle and Haku launched him with a Rocket Launcher onto #1 for a three count to even the match at 1 fall apiece!
Back at the PPW backdrop, Joe Pedicino was joined by Pacific Champion Don Muraco who said that he is going to take care of Colonel DeBeers next week here on the Power Hour!
Back to the ring for the 3rd and deciding fall, as Tama started off with #1 and was in control. He and Haku tagged in and out working over #1, but each time it seemed they were about to put him away, #2 would break up the pin. #1 turned the tables on Haku with a throat thrust and tagged in #2. The Viet Congs went back on the offensive and cut the ring off and took turns working over Haku. They kept coming up short on putting him away as he got to his corner and tagged in Tama! Tama was fresh and took the fight to both of the Viet Cong Express. Soon, Haku was back in and all four men were fighting. The referee was trying to restore order as Tama nailed #1 with an enziguri and layed him out. The referee was getting Haku out of the ring, and Tama was protesting. During this, #2 rolled #1 out of the ring and took his place. When Tama came back over, #2 quickly rose up and pulled Tama down with an inside cradle for the surprise three count to win the fall, the match, and the titles!
