Dutch Savage and Don Coss are seated at a table near the ring, in front of a backdrop with the Western States Wrestling and USWA logos on it. Coss welcomes us to the Seattle Center Arena for WILD WEST WRESTLING!
Coss and Savage run down the matches that we’ll see on tonight’s show, including the big main event, the New Zealand Sheepherders are here, and they’ll meet the duo that nearly came away with the Western States Tag Team titles last week, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater.
Plus, the Tag champs, Buzz Sawyer and Matt Borne, will be in action, as will the new Western States champion “Ravishing” Rick Rude!
Dutch says that, speaking of the new Western States champion, let’s take a look back to October 22, and see just how Rude won the title.
VTR: Rude vs Williams, Tournament Final, Oct. 22 in Casper, WY:
After nearly 20 minutes, Steve Williams has the upper hand in the match, and has Rude backed into a corner. As Williams goes to pull Rude out of the corner, Rick sticks his head between the ropes, and the referee forces Williams to back off. As that is going on, Pringle hands Rude what look to be brass knux! Rude comes out of the corner, and as Williams grabs ahold of him, Rude blasts Doc with a big right hand. Williams crumbles to the mat, and the ref doesn’t notice Rude quickly stick the knux into his trunks. Rude covers Williams by placing one boot on his chest, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
END VTR
Dutch says that Steve “Dr. Death” Williams is chomping at the bit, he wants to get back in the ring with Rude and not only win the Western States title, but dish out some payback for Rude sucker-punching him with those brass knux! Dutch then sends us to a special look at Steve Williams.
We see footage of Dr. Death, set to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”. The video includes footage of Williams playing football at the University of Oklahoma, as well as clips of matches from here in the US, and in Japan.
WESTERN STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
“MAD DOG” BUZZ SAWYER & “MANIAC” MATT BORNE (Champs) (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. MANDO GUERRERO & JOHNNY MANTELL. Guerrero and Mantell give the champs a tough challenge, but in the end, the Mad Dog and the Maniac retain the titles when Sawyer pins Mantell after a belly to belly suplex, followed by a diving headbutt for the pinfall.
After the match, Magnum TA joins Pringle, Sawyer and Borne. Magnum brings up the match last week, where Jim Duggan and Dick Slater defeated the champions. Percy says the only reason Duggan and Slater got the win was because they were prepared for Duggan and Williams!
Magnum says that everyone seems sure that his men were behind the attack on Williams that knocked him out of the match.
Pringle says that’s a lie! He says tha he has it on good authority that Williams simply tripped getting out of his car and fell! Magnum asks him if he expects the fans to believe that Williams did all that to himself by tripping?!?! Pringle says he doesn’t care what Magnum or these people believe, but his men had nothing to do with it!
Magnum says that the Western States promoters are working to sign matches between the champions and Williams & Duggan AND Duggan & Slater! Percy says to bring it on, his men have the belts, and that’s not going to change!
“DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS VS. BARRY HOROWITZ. Williams dominates the match, and in the end, he scoops Horowitz up and hits the Stampede for the 1, 2, 3!
Magnum TA is backstage with Western States champ “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Percival Pringle III. Rude gloats about his title win, and says that Steve Williams is a chump! He says everyone was so sure that Williams would win the tournament, but when it came right down to it, Williams couldn’t get the job done, and Rude proved beyond a doubt that he is the single greatest wrestler in the world today!
Magnum says that Williams is looking for a rematch, and says Rude might not be so cocky after Dr. Death gets his hands on him, considering how Rude won the match in Casper.
Rude says that he won the tournament final fair and square, and he doesn’t think Williams deserves any more matches with him. Pringle says that there are far more deserving challengers out there than Steve Williams.
“RAVISHING” RICK RUDE (Western States champ) (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. JOHNNY GUNN. Rude wins a competitive match with the Rude Awakening neckbreaker.
Before the main event, Coss and Savage are joined at the broadcast table by Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Dick Slater. They talk about beating the champions last week, and Slater says that the only reason they aren’t standing here with the belts tonight, is because of a technicality! Duggan says that they want another shot at the belts, and when they get it, he says that nothing will stop him and Slater from becoming the champions!
“HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN & “MR. UNPREDICTABLE” DICK SLATER VS. THE NEW ZEALAND SHEEPHERDERS: BUTCH MILLER & LUKE WILLIAMS (w/ Lord Jonathan Boyd). This one is a real slobberknocker! All four men are in the ring at the same time during the early part of the match, until Sandy Barr is finally able to get order restored. The Sheepherders enjoy an early advantage, as they keep Slater in their corner, cut off from Duggan. Slater takes a beating, but is able to turn the tables, and knocks both Sheepherders to the mat with a pair of clotheslines, then tags in Duggan! Duggan comes in, and hits the football tackle on both Luke and Butch. A few moments later, Duggan again hits the tackle on Butch Miller, and covers him, but Luke Williams comes in and stomps Duggan, breaking up the count. This brings Dick Slater back in, and once again, we’ve got a pier six brawl on our hands! Slater knocks Luke out of the ring, then follows him to the floor, and Duggan hits a running clothesline on Butch and covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Dutch and Coss wrap things up, as Duggan and Slater celebrate in the ring. Dutch hypes next week’s show, which will see a HUGE 2 out of 3 falls 6-man tag match in the main event, as Western States champ Rick Rude teams up with the Western States Tag champs Sawyer and Borne, to face Steve Williams, Jim Duggan and Dick Slater! Plus, Butch Reed will face two men in a handicap match, and after wrestling to a 20-minute draw on October 22 in Casper, Terry Taylor will challenge Eddie Gilbert for the Western States TV title!
