WESTERN STATES WRESTLING
SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 22, 1987
CASPER EVENTS CENTER
CASPER, WYOMING
Dutch Savage is in the ring, and welcomes the fans to the Casper Events Center, where we will see the first Western States champion crowned! As well, a non-tournament match will see one of the top young wrestlers in the world, Terry Taylor, challenge Eddie Gilbert for the Western States TV title!
Opening Round:
“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan beat Luke Williams (w/ Jonathan Boyd). This match was a brawl right from the opening bell. Late in the match, after Jonathan Boyd had interfered several times, the referee finally forced him from ringside! Williams got in the ref’s face, and Duggan went into the 3-point stance. When Williams turned his attention back to Hacksaw, Duggan hit the football tackle for the 1, 2, 3!
Opening Round:
“Ravishing” Rick Rude beat Steve Doll. Doll continues to improve, and he gives Rude a tough match here, but in the end, Rude gets the win after hitting the Rude Awakening for the 1, 2, 3.
Opening Round:
“Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater beat “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (w/ Percival Pringle III). Over the past few years, Slater has made a name for himself in several different regions, like Florida, the Carolinas and the Mid-South. Now, he’s made his way west, and makes his Western States debut here against Percy Pringle’s Mad Dog. Sawyer enjoys an early advantage, but Slater fights back and gets several nearfalls. Sawyer hits a low blow, and then plants a vicious kick to the head. Slater again fights back, and in the end, he drops Sawyer on his head with a jumping piledriver for the 1, 2, 3!
Sawyer throws a fit, and as Slater gets his hand raised, Sawyer jumps him from behind, and puts the boots to him! Percy Pringle enters the ring, and gives Sawyer the chain that he carries with him to the ring. Sawyer wraps the chain around his fist, and proceeds to beat Slater to a bloody pulp! A group of babyfaces, led by Steve Williams and Jim Duggan, hit the ring and chase Sawyer and Pringle off, but the damage has been done, and Slater is helped from the ring, unable to even stand on his own.
Opening Round:
Butch Miller (w/Jonathan Boyd) beat Ron Simmons. Jonathan Boyd is back at ringside with Miller, after being ejected during the earlier Luke Williams match. Late in the match, Simmons connects with a powerslam, but referee Sandy Barr was a little too close to the action, and caught one of Miller’s boots in the head, knocking him to the mat. Simmons, not realizing the ref is down, has Miller covered. Jonathan Boyd climbs up to the top turnbuckle, and jumps off, driving the New Zealand flagpole into the back of Simmons’ head, then rolls Miller on top of Simmons, before reviving the referee. Barr is groggy, but makes the count, giving Butch Miller the victory!
Dutch Savage informs the crowd that Dick Slater has been taken to a local hospital, and won’t be able to compete in the rest of the tournament, meaning the next round will see Rick Rude vs Jim Duggan, and Butch Miller facing the winner of the next match.
Opening Round:
“Dr. Death” Steve Williams beat “Hacksaw” Butch Reed (w/ Percival Pringle III). Pringle’s Dynasty does not fair too well in this tournament. Buzz Sawyer lost his earlier match to Dick Slater, and now, Butch Reed, the newest member of the Dynasty, falls in defeat to Doctor Death! After a hard-hitting brawl, Williams drops Reed with the Stampede for the 1, 2, 3!
Semi-Finals:
“Ravishing” Rick Rude beat “Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The fans are solidly behind Duggan here, and when Rude takes the mic and begins to insult the fans, Duggan drops him with a clothesline, drawing a huge ovation from the fans! The momentum goes back and forth throughout the match, with both men getting their fair share of offence. Late in the match, Duggan has the upper hand, and he gets into the 3-point stance, waiting to pounce. Rude is ready, and as Duggan charges, Rude sidesteps and Duggan ends up hitting the turnbuckles. Stunned, Duggan stumbles out of the corner . . . and right into a Rude Awakening! Rude covers Duggan and gets the 1, 2, 3 to advance to the finals!
Semi-Finals:
“Dr. Death” Steve Williams beat Butch Miller (w/ Jonathan Boyd). The fans are treated to a wild, completely out of control brawl! Williams and Miller hit each other with everything but the kitchen sink, but in the end, Williams connects with the Stampede for the pinfall victory.
Western States TV Championship:
“Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (Champ) (w/ Missy Hyatt) fought Terry Taylor to a 20-minute DRAW. These two put on a wrestling clinic. Despite Gilbert’s penchant for breaking the rules, he shows here that he can wrestle with the best of them. After 20-minutes of back and forth action, the bell rings, and the match is declared a draw.
Finals:
“Ravishing” Rick Rude (w/ Percival Pringle III) beat “Dr. Death” Steve Williams. Rick Rude makes his way to the ring, and look who he’s got with him . . . Percy Pringle! Pringle takes the house mic, and says that Rude is the man that is going to bring him the Western States title, and then the World title! After nearly 20 minutes, Steve Williams has the upper hand in the match, and has Rude backed into a corner. As Williams goes to pull Rude out of the corner, Rick sticks his head between the ropes, and the referee forces Williams to back off. As that is going on, Pringle hands Rude what look to be brass knux! Rude comes out of the corner, and as Williams grabs ahold of him, Rude blasts Doc with a big right hand. Williams crumbles to the mat, and the ref doesn’t notice Rude quickly stick the knux into his trunks. Rude covers Williams by placing one boot on his chest, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Rick Rude is the Western States heavyweight champion!!!!
Dutch Savage thanks everyone for joining them here tonight, and reminds the Casper fans to tune into “Wild West Wrestling” Friday night on KTWO Channel 2 for all the fall-out from tonight’s event.
