UWF Update May-June-July 1987
UWF World's Title. Champ the Spoiler 1# (Don Jardine) w/mgr. 'Playboy' Gary Hart finished up a rough month of May with tough challenges from 'Captain Redneck' Dick Murdoch, Don Diamond & 'Outlaw' Ron Bass. Murdoch was the toughest challenger, scoring wins over the Spoiler in Texas Death & Bullrope Matches. When the title was on the line, Spoiler & Hart found a way to retain the title. In June, Spoiler faces the challenge of Don Muraco & old nemisis Mr. Wrestling II but still managed, usually with Hart's illegal assistance, to retain the belt. When July came around, Spoiler & Hart found their biggest challenger in one time Hart stablemate 'King Kong' Bundy who came in to get back money he said Hart owned. When Gary refused to pay him, we went after the Spoiler's title & scored several non-title wins as well as disqualification victories over the champ. Now, rival manager Don Carson is making some noise to get his man the Mongolian Stomper a title match with the champ. Muraco & Murdoch also want rematches.
UWF World's Tag Team Title. Champions 'Bruiser' Brody & Stan 'Lariat' Hansen were successful defending the titles against former champions Kenji Mutoh & Masahiro Chono w/Hart. They also defended against Doom (Butch Reed & Ron Simmons), JYD & Rocky Johnson as well as 'Outlaw' Ron Bass & 'Cowboy' Scott Casey. Also making noise now is Don Carson's Mongolian Stomper & Abdullah the Butcher.
UWF World's TV Title. Champ 'Outlaw' Ron Bass has been busy defending against faces (JYD, Lance Von Erich, Bob Roop) as well as heels (King Kong Bundy, the Mongolians Stomper as well as Ken Patera & Butch Reed. Bass lost the title to Patera in late June but regained it three weeks later on TV in early July.
UWF Woman's World Title. Champion Wendi Richter had her hands full with top challenger Sherri Martel in May. In June, Richter defended against Luna Vachon w/mgr. Baby Doll but she couldn't unseat the champ. Richter & Baby Doll got into it on TV when the manager threatened to expose Richter's affair with a high power member of the UWF. Baby Doll recruited Martel & they have been making life miserable to the champ. Vachon put Tina Ferrari out of action on TV with help from Baby Doll.
Junkyard Dog & Rocky Johnson-Doom (Butch Reed & Ron Simmons) feud. These two tag team never get tired of beating each other up. Everything from tornado rules to Texas Death Rules to Lights Out Matches. Nothing is settled. A steel cage match looms in the near future.
Scott Casey-Sunshine feud. Sunshine has been searching for someone to take out Casey after he ran Buddy Landell out of the area in May. Lance Von Erich & Scott Putski tried to talk sense into Sunshine but she hates Casey. She paided Hart to let her borrow the talents of Mutoh & Chono to go after Casey in single matches but they failed. She approached Bob Roop but he flat turned her down. Abdullah chased her out of the TV studio when she approached him.
