Airdate: Saturday, June 18, 1987 on the USA Network
Taped on June 1, 1987 at the County Coliseum Arena in Oakland, CA
Before the opening of the show, we see footage from last week’s show, where Jake Roberts dropped Brutus Beefcake with a DDT, and was about to deliver a second one when Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior made the save.
Vince McMahon and Jesse “the Body” Ventura welcome us to Oakland, California for this week’s episode of WWF Superstars!
Vince and Jesse talk about the footage that we saw at the top of the hour, of Jake Roberts hitting Brutus Beefcake with the DDT on last week’s show, and attempting a second one before Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior made the save. The Body says Jake is the man that finally killed Hulkamania, once and for all, and says Jake is the most dangerous man in wrestling today. Vince says that he doesn’t believe that Hulkamania is dead, but does agree with Jesse that Jake Roberts is an extremely dangerous individual.
We go to pre-recorded comments from Jake “the Snake” Roberts. Jake says that he did what no one else could, he rid the wrestling world of Hulk Hogan! Jake talks about the World title tournament on July 2, and says he’ll go through the rest of the field, and leave Baltimore as the new World heavyweight champion!
THE HART FOUNDATION: BRET HART & JIM NEIDHART VS. TERRY GIBBS & BARRY HOROWITZ. The Hart Foundation gets the win when Bret pins Gibbs following the Hart Attack.
After the bout, Jimmy Hart comes to ringside, and engages the Hart Foundation in an argument. As both Bret and Neidhart are distracted by the Mouth of the South, the Nasty Boys make their return to the WWF, coming out of the crowd, and climbing into the ring, where they attack the Hart Foundation with chairs!
Bret and Neidhart are caught completely by surprise, and they don’t stand a chance, as Knobbs and Sags pummel them with steel chairs. A group of referees and other WWF officials hit the ring to put a stop to the assault, but the damage has been done, and the Hart Foundation have to be helped from the ring.
After a commercial break, “Mean” Gene Okerlund is the locker room with Jimmy Hart and The Nasty Boys: Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags.
Jimmy Hart is ecstatic, and says that he told the Hart Foundation that things were going to get NASTY for them, and that’s exactly what happened! Sags says that Bret and Neidhart are a couple of sissies, and the next time he and Knobbs get ahold of the Hart Foundation, they’re going to kick their butts even worse than they did here today!
Vince and Jesse talk about the 16-man tournament that will take place at the Wrestling Classic, live on USA Network on July 2. The winner of the tournament will become the new World heavyweight champion! Vince announces the list of participants:
Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake!
“the Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase!
The Brooklyn Brawler!
“Mr. USA” Tony Atlas!
“Macho Man” Randy Savage!
Scott Hall!
Johnny Ace!
Terry Taylor!
“Outlaw” Bobby Jaggers!
The Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty!
Bam Bam Bigelow!
Jake “the Snake” Roberts!
Paul Roma!
Bad News Brown!
George “the Animal” Steele!
Plus, Larry Zbyszko will defend the Intercontinental title against the Ultimate Warrior!
Lord Alfred Hayes is with Bobby Heenan and WWF Intercontinental champion Larry Zbyszko. Alfred says that Larry will defend the title against the Ultimate Warrior at the Wrestling Classic on July 2.
Zbyszko says that the Warrior is a freak of nature, and Larry knows he can’t match the power of the Warrior. But, Larry says, Warrior’s also a simpleton, and Larry says he’ll easily outsmart him on July 2 and leave Baltimore with the gold still around his waist.
BAM BAM BIGELOW & BIG VAN VADER (w/ Slick) VS. LOU WINSTON & TOM STONE. Bigelow and Vader dominate this match from bell to bell, and get the win when Vader drops Stone with a powerbomb, and Bigelow then delivers the slingshot headbutt from the apron into the ring for the pinfall.
It's time for the WWF Update with “Mean” Gene Okerlund.
Gene talks about the injury that Hulk Hogan suffered at the hands of Jake “the Snake” Roberts.
We see footage of Jake delivering several DDTs to the Hulkster, even going so far as to DDT Hogan onto a steel chair!
Gene then sends us to comments from Hulk Hogan, from Hogan’s home. The Hulkster is wearing a neckbrace, and says that his injuries were severe and it’s going to be a long, hard road to recovery. However, Hogan says that he will be back, the support of all his Hulkamaniacs drives him, and with them behind him, nothing will stop Hogan from returning to the WWF! The Hulkster says that when he returns, Hulkamania is going to run wild on Jake the Snake!
“MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE (w/ Miss Elizabeth) VS. JERRY ALLEN. Savage gets the win with the flying elbowdrop at around the 2-minute mark.
BAD NEW BROWN VS. RIKKI NELSON. Brown pummels his opponent as soon as the bell sounds, and gets the win in about 50 seconds after connecting with the Ghetto Blaster for the pinfall.
Vince says that he has a big announcement to make . . . the World Wrestling Federation will be leaving North America, for the first time, later this year! He says that in the Fall, the WWF will embark on a European tour, and they’ll be hitting cities in Italy, France, Germany and England! He says that, for the fans watching in those countries, they will have more information available soon.
Jesse says that this is because all of the European fans, particularly the female fans, have been contacting the WWF offices because they want the opportunity to see “the Body” in person!
Vince just rolls his eyes, and says that it’s time for the main event.
THE ROCKERS: SHAWN MICHAELS & MARTY JANNETTY VS. TERRY TAYLOR & JOHNNY ACE (w/ Bobby Heenan). Taylor and Ace are a new team, but they work well together here, and the fans are treated to a fast-paced, action packed match! Neither team can get the win before TV runs out, and the match is declared a draw.
Vince and Jesse wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, which will feature “the Million Dollar Man” taking on Outback Jack, and Larry Zbyszko will defend the IC title against Jim Neidhart.
