Airdate: Saturday, June 11, 1987 on the USA Network
Taped on May 31, 1987 at the Convention Center in Fresno, CA
Before the opening of the show, we see footage from last week’s show, where Scott Hall confronted Johnny Ace, with Hall receiving a beatdown from the Heenan Family.
Vince McMahon and Jesse “the Body” Ventura welcome us to Fresno, California for this week’s episode of WWF Superstars!
Vince and Jesse run down the wrestlers that we’ll see in action today, including the Hart Foundation, Tony Atlas, and Ted Dibiase. We’ll also see the debut of “Outlaw” Bobby Jaggers! The main event will see Brutus Beefcake square off with Jake Roberts. Brutus will be looking to avenge the injury that Hogan suffered at the hands of Roberts.
Vince then talks about the footage that we saw at the top of the program, where Scott Hall confronted his friend and tag team partner Johnny Ace after Ace was announced as the newest member of the Heenan Family. As we saw, Hall sustained a beating from the entire Heenan Family. Jesse says that Hall should’ve kept his nose out of the Family’s business, but he didn’t, and he paid the price!
Vince then sends us to comments from Bobby Heenan, and the newest member of his “Family”, Johnny Ace.
Heenan and Ace are exiting the Heenan Family’s limo, when Lord Alfred Hayes walks over. Hayes asks Ace why he turned his back on Scott Hall, and all the fans, and joined Heenan? Ace tells Alfred that Scott Hall just doesn’t get it, they were getting nowhere by pandering to these idiot fans. Now, with Bobby Heenan’s guidance, he and Terry Taylor will do what he never would have with Scott Hall . . . win the World tag team titles!
Heenan says Johnny Ace made a smart business decision, Scott Hall needs to accept that and let it go. He says that what happened to Hall last week was just a warning, but if Hall continues to stick his nose in the Heenan Family’s business, he’s going to get hurt, and hurt bad!
THE HART FOUNDATION: BRET HART & JIM NEIDHART VS. THE WILD SAMOANS: AFA & SIKA (w/ Slick). The Samoans give the Foundation a tough match, but Bret Hart gets the win for his team when, as Sika has him up for a Samoan Drop, Bret gets free, and turns it into a victory roll for the pinfall. Afa and Sika try to attack Bret and Neidhart after the match, but the Foundation clear them from the ring.
Vince and Jesse talk about the 16-man tournament that will take place at the Wrestling Classic, live on USA Network on July 2. The winner of the tournament will become the new World heavyweight champion! Vince announces the list of participants:
Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake!
“the Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase!
The Brooklyn Brawler!
“Mr. USA” Tony Atlas!
“Macho Man” Randy Savage!
Scott Hall!
Johnny Ace!
Terry Taylor!
“Outlaw” Bobby Jaggers!
The Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty!
Bam Bam Bigelow!
Jake “the Snake” Roberts!
Paul Roma!
Bad News Brown!
George “the Animal” Steele!
Plus, Larry Zbyszko will defend the Intercontinental title against the Ultimate Warrior!
“MR. USA” TONY ATLAS VS. BARRY HOROWITZ. Atlas overpowers his opponent right from the start, and gets the pinfall victory at around the one-minute mark following a running clothesline.
WWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
DEMOLITION: AX & SMASH (champs) (w/ Mr. Fuji) VS. THE YOUNG STALLIONS: PAUL ROMA & JOHNNY GUNN. Roma and Gunn gave it their all here, they gave Demolition a challenge, but in the end, the champions got the win when Smash pinned Gunn after the Demolition Decapitation.
After the match, "Mean" Gene Okerlund catches up with Demolition and Mr. Fuji. Gene mentions that Demolition will defend the titles against the Hart Foundation at SummerSlam on August 28 live on Pay-Per-View. Fuji says that they beat the Hart Foundation to win the titles, and they’ll beat them at SummerSlam. Fuji says that he has Demolition in peak condition, both physically and mentally. He says that his men feel no pain, they feel no compassion, they only want to maim and injure, and that’s what they’re going to do to the Hart Foundation at SummerSlam!
It's time for the WWF Update with “Mean” Gene Okerlund.
Mean Gene talks about Slick and Bam Bam Bigelow. Bigelow has been on a tear since arriving in the World Wrestling Federation, and Gene wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Bigelow holding championship gold in the near future.
We go to comments from Slick, who tells Mean Gene that Bigelow is a dominant force on his own, but he’s got bad news for the WWF, he was scouting talent in Japan, and found a man that is just as mean and just as destructive as Bigelow. This man is known as Big Van Vader and Slick will debut him next week! He says that the entire world will see the destruction and devastation that Bam Bigelow and Big Van Vader can cause!
We then see footage of Vader destroying two men in a Handicap match in Japan.
Lord Alfred Hayes is backstage with Jake “the Snake” Roberts. Jake talks about his match coming up with Brutus Beefcake and promises to cripple Brutus, just like he did to Hulk Hogan. Jake then says he’ll go through everyone else in the tournament on July 2 and win the WWF title.
“THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN” TED DIBIASE (w/ Bobby Heenan & Virgil) VS. CHRIS HAMRICK. Dibiase gets the win with the Million Dollar Dream sleeper. After the match, Dibiase shoves a crumpled up $100 bill into Hamrick’s mouth, which Virgil retrieves before following Dibiase and Heenan from the ring.
“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with Scott Hall. Hall talks about what happened last week, and says that he hopes Johnny Ace will come to his senses, but if he doesn’t, Hall says he’s ready to knock some sense back into Ace!
“OUTLAW” BOBBY JAGGERS VS. LOU WINSTON. Jaggers is impressive in his debut, pounding Winston into the mat, and getting the win with the Hangman’s Noose, a variation of the reverse neckbreaker.
After the decision is announced, Jaggers takes the bullrope that he carries to the ring, and proceeds to batter Winston with the cowbell, until several referees swarm the ring and force Jaggers to leave the ring.
“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake. Beefcake responds to Jake’s earlier comments, and says that he’s going to avenge the injury to Hulk Hogan!
JAKE “THE SNAKE” ROBERTS VS. BRUTUS “THE BARBER” BEEFCAKE. After a hard-fought match, these two battle to a double count-out when they get brawling on the floor, completely ignoring the referee’s count.
After the match, they make their way back into the ring and continue brawling. Brutus seems to have the upper hand, but Jake jams a thumb into the Barber’s eye, stopping Brutus dead in his tracks. Jake then takes over, and a moment later, he drops Brutus on his head with the DDT!
Jake, an evil grin on his face, pulls Brutus up, and is about to deliver a second DDT, when “Macho Man” Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior hit the ring and chase Jake off, before checking on Brutus.
Vince and Jesse wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, which will feature the debut of Slick’s newest charge, Big Van Vader, as well as the Rockers taking on Bobby Heenan’s new team of Terry Taylor and Johnny Ace in the main event.
