CWA “Championship Wrestling” for February 6, 1987
Live from the WMC Channel 5 Studios
Hosted by Lance Russell & Dave Brown
LANCE: Hello, everybody, and welcome to Championship Wrestling! Lance Russel here along ringside with my partner, Dave Brown! We have quite a lineup this week, Dave!
DAVE: We certainly do, Lance! Koko Ware is back with us and he'll be in the opening match this week! The Texasw Broncos are here today as well as Bad Company!
LANCE: Those two teams have developed quite a rivalry and they'll be in a Texas Tornado match at the Boogie Man jam pay per view!
DAVE: We also have the World Tag Team Champions, Ron Wright's Wrecking Crew! Terry Funk will be here in a match today! Former CWA World Champion Jumbo Tsuruta is back and he's looking to regain that belt from Jerry “the King” Lawler! He didn't come alone: Giant Baba is also here from Japan and he'll be in a handicap tag match against two men.
LANCE: Let me point out that Baba, like Terry Funk, is a former NWA World Champion. So, we have a bunch of highly decorated wrestlers today!
DAVE: Handsome Jimmy Valiant will wrestle Barry Orton today and Southern Champion Bill “Superstar” Dundee will be here as well! With the Boogie Man Jam only about a week away, anything could happen with those two in the same TV studio! We also have a big six man tag match as our expiration of time match today: The Masked Commandoes and Tom Branch will meet World Champion Jerry Lawler and the Young Lions, Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis!
LANCE: Davey, that's what you call a packed program! We'll get it going after our first break!

VTR: Dutch Mantel is standing in a blackened studio, bullwhip in hand!
DUTCH: I have a lot of unfinished business down there in the Mid South! I've been on a world tour: Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, you name it! But something keeps pulling me down to Memphis and Lexington and Louisville! That something is the CWA World Championship! I've never held it and that just eats at me! Jerry Lawler, Queenie, there's a lot of water under the bridge between you and me, that's more unfinished business! If you survive my fellow Texan, Terry Funk, I'll be coming for the title! If you are honest, Queenie, you'll admit that you have never beaten me! The Dutchman is on his way back and I'm meaner and ornerier than I've ever been.
LANCE: By golly, the Dirty Dutchman is on his way back in. Speaking of guys who are back, Koko Ware has just entered the ring...
Koko Ware pinned Lou Winston after a brainbuster.
LANCE: Koko Ware, sonofagun, it's good to see ya back here on Championship Wrestling! You looked great in there!
KOKO: Lance, I'm back and I have a new attitude! I've never felt this good! I just wanna tell guys like Dundee, Khan, Keirn, and Ron Wright to watch out 'cause Koko is back in town! And I want all these wonderful fans to know that I love'em and appreciate them so very much!
LANCE: Great to hear, Koko! We expect great things in the coming weeks from this young man, Koko Ware!

LANCE: Before our next match, I want to speak with Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond, Bad Company. Guys, at the Boogie Man Jam on February 14th, you will take on the team that is about to wrestle, the Texas Broncos in a Texas Tornado match! You have quite a rivalry going with Houston & Windham...
DIAMOND: Lance, we are the hottest team going today! We should be the team challenging for the World Tag Team Titles! Sam Houston & Kendall Windham have got in our way and we'll take care of them at the Jam! Our teamwork is awesome and in a Texas Tornado match where we'll both be in the ring at all times, it will be even more awesome!
The Texas Broncos (Kendall Windham & Sam Houston defeated Jeff Sword & Carl Fergie. Houston pinned Fergie after a bulldog. Kendal and Sam look great despite Bad Company being at ringside and trying to distract them.

Bad Company (Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka) defeated Paul Garner & Randy Mulkey as Tanaka pinned Mulkey with a German suplex and bridge.
LANCE: By golly, there's a guy coming back to the area who is one of the most unique individuals we've ever seen in wrestling. His name is Exotic Adrian Street and here's a look at him.
VTR:
LANCE: Like him or hate him, he's one tough son of a gun and there's nobody else like him, Dave!
DAVE: He'll be back in the area very soon and he's one of those guys that you just can't really predict what he'll do next. When he comes to your town, be sure and get a ticket! Another guy on his way in is one of the most powerful wrestlers we have ever seen in the area: “Canadian Lumberjack” Jos LeDuc! Big Jos had these comments...
VTR:
Jos LeDuc stands in the ring in the empty Dallas Sportatorium.
LEDUC: They called me on the phone and they told me that Jimmy Valiant was putting together this Boogie Man Jam on pay per view. I said “Gimme Lawler or Valiant or Koko Ware or Austin Idol!” They said they were already booked against other wrestlers! Cowards! They said I'd have to wrestle a preliminary match. I said if I wrestle on this card, it will be a success! You have to give me what I want! If I wrestle a preliminary match, I want two men! I have two hands, gimme two opponents! It don't matter who ya give me, I'll hurt'em bad! Lawler! Valiant! Rich! Idol! Ware! Jarrett! You can't hide forever! I'm comin and when I get there, I'm gonna hurt people, starting with these two punks at the Boogie Man Jam!

CWA World Tag Champions The Wrecking Crew (Phil Hickerson & Dennis Condrey) (w/Ron Wright) defeated Mike Jackson & Ric McCord when Condrey pinned McCord after a facebuster.
LANCE: I'm joined by the World Tag Team Champions...
WRIGHT: Lance Russell, the teams are lining up wanting a shot at my beloved Wrecking Crew! This week at the Coliseum, we have them goat ropers, the Texas Broncos! Then, at the pay per view, it's Jarrett and Travis, them young punks we took these here belts off! And they got that no account Tojo Yammamoto in their corner and that just ain't right, Lance!
LANCE: Why is that, Ron?
WRIGHT: 'Cause I ain't fully recovered from my recent surgery! He's liable to have a flashback to December 7th, 1941, and Pearl Harbor me! Tojo, let me tell you somethin: If you lay a hand on me, Dennis and Phil are gonna give you a East Tennessee dog whuppin like they ain't seen in Rupp Arena since the last time my Tennessee Volunteers whupped them stankin Kentucky Wildcats!
LANCE: Well, I'm sure all of the good folks in Lexington will appreciate that....

LANCE: Terry Funk has a match with young Chris Carter up next, but he's here at the desk so I assume that you have something to say...
FUNK: Lance, you need to tell Eddie Marlin that he needs to book another match for the pay per view!
LANCE: Really? Why is that?
FUNK: This Monday night, at the Mid South Coliseum, my good friend Jumbo Tsuruta is going to regain thae title that rightfully should still be his! That Lawler can't possibly beat Jumbo in a straight up, scientific wrestling match! Jumbo is a lot like the Funk family, he's a truly great scientific wrestler and not an egg sucking dog like Queen Lawler! Then, I'm sure Jumbo will do the right thing and give me my title match at the Boogie Man Jam! As good as Jumbo is, I can can beat him in five minutes! Then, I'll take on Lawler in the Explosive Match! I can wrestle two matches in one night, no problem, Lance Russell!
LANCE: You'd better concentrate on young Chris Carter! He's up there waiting on ya!
Terry Funk forced Chris Carter to submit to a spinning toehold.
LANCE: OK, matchmaker Eddie Marlin is out here!
MARLIN: I just wanted Terry Funk to know that he doesn't make the matches here and he's not going to just get his way because he was once NWA World Champion! Tsuruta will wrestle Lawler for the belt at the Coliseum, but regardless of the outcome, the Funk-Lawler match at Boogie Man Jam will take place! As far as Jumbo Tsuruta goes, Handsome Jimmy has signed Jumbo and Giant Baba to take on the top team out of Puerto Rico, the Invaders at the Boogie Man Jam!
FUNK: In other words, typical Jerry Lawler Memphis [BLEEP]!
MARLIN: Watch your language, Funk! This is live TV!
FUNK: You made Lawler's best pal the booker for a night just as a plan to rip me off! All you Memphis [BLEEP] are just like that [BLEEP] Lawler!
LANCE: I certainly hope that our director had his finger on the red button!
MARLIN: If one vulgar word went out over the air, you're in serious trouble, Funk!
FUNK: Lawler, in that explosive match, I'm gonna beat the [BLEEP] outta you and there's nothing this country bumpkin can [BLEEP] do about it!
COMMERCIAL
LANCE: OK, thankfully, they were on the ball in the control room and Funk's profanity got bleeped out! Here comes the former CWA and former AWA World Champion, Jumbo Tsuruta. Jumbo, before your match, I'd like to ask and I'm not sure how much English you know, but I'd like to ask a question: Do you go along with the comments Terry Funk, a man who claims to be your friend, made a few minutes ago?
TSURUTA: NO! I respect Jerry Lawler very much and have no respect for Funk!
LANCE: Well, that clears it up! Jumbo has a match up in the ring!
Jumbo Tsuruta pinned Ben Alexander with a Thesz press.

Lawler and company cleared the ring of Dundee and the Ortons!

Southern Champ Bill Dundee (w/Percy Pringle) defeats Jim Jamison easily in a non-title bout, scoring the pin after a “bombs away” type splash. After the match, Dundee yells “Hey, Valiant, this is what's gonna happen to your old lady!” Pringle enters the ring with scissors and they begin to cut Jamison's hair! Valiant charges in with a steel chair to break up the haircut!
LANCE: Well, Dundee is over here! He didn't seem to want any part of Handsome Jimmy!
DUNDEE: Valiant, we're gonna shave yer old lady slick bald headed! She'll look even stupider than she does now!

VTR:
Austin Idol and Jackie Fargo are together in a gym.
IDOL: The Boogie Man Jam is right around the corner, darlin, and the Heartthrob is ready! As you can see, I'm here in the gym, pumpin iron and getting in the best shape of my life! Steve Keirn & Kevin Kelly, I couldn't be more confident in myself or my partner: Often imitated and never duplicated, the great Jackie Fargo!
FARGO: I've been jogging ten miles a day! I've been sparring and lifting weights with this incredible athlete by my side! Keirn, you better remember, son, I taught ya everything you know, but not nearly everything I know! Steve, you and your musclehead buddy had better realize one thing: I'm not coming for a wrestling match! You'd better put up yer dukes, pally, 'cause I'm coming for a fight!
Fallen Angel walks into the picture. She gives both Idol and Fargo a kiss on the cheek.
ANGEL: These are two real men and they're gonna give me Valentine's Day gift by kicking the so called Fabulous One and the so called Mr. Magnificent all over the ring! This is the dream team, but for you boys, it's a nightmare!
Giant Baba (w/ Jumbo Tsuruta) defeats David Isley & George South in a handicap tag bout. Baba pins Isley after a boot to the face.
LANCE: OK, The Young Lions, Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis will be in our expiation of time match this week along with the King! All three of 'em are out here right now! Jerry, you are gonna be very busy over this coming week, defending the title against Jumbo Tsurta at the Coliseum on Monday night and then, a week from today, the Explosive Match against Terry Funk!
LAWLER:That's what being World Champion is all about, Lance! Tsuruta is a great wrestler and he'll want to have a scientific match. Believe me, I can handle that! The Explosive Match is more or less a street fight! Funk, remember the Empty Arena match! You were cussin and runnin your mouth back then, too! What happened? You ended up getting hurt really bad, didn't ya? What makes you think it will be any different this time? It's kill or be killed, Funk, and I promise you that I'm a survivor!
JARRETT: We've got all the confidence in the world in you, King! We're ready for our match, too!
TRAVIS: Condrey and Hickerson, you had to have help from that idiot manager to steal our belts! Well, we went out and found somebody just as mean and nasty and low down as you are Ron Wright! We called Tojo and we told him: Be sure that you bring the wooden sandals and the kendo stick and the salt!
JARRETT: That's right, Billy! Time to fight fire with fire!
LANCE: We'll be right back with that expiration of time six man tag match!
COMMERCIAL
Time for our big expiration of time match! Jerry Lawler, Jeff Jarrett, & Billy Travis square off with Tom Branch & the Masked Commandoes in six man tag team action. Lawler and the Young Lions take the first fall as Lawler hits a fistdrop off the middle turnbuckle onto Commando #2! We'll check the time and see if we do have enough time for a second fall!
We have enough time for another fall. Branch and the masked team isolate Travis for most of the fall and really punish him. Finally, he makes a comeback and the hot tag! Jarrett gets the pin on Tom Branch after a missile dropkick! The King and the Young Lions are victorious in straight falls!
