JOEY STYLES is in front of an ECW banner.
Joey says that Stevie Richards and Terry Funk will both be in singles matches on tonight’s show, and the main event will see Rob Van Dam challenge Raven for the ECW World title!
Earlier in the week, Commissioner Gordon announced that a 4-man tournament would take place to fill the World TV title vacancy. The three of the four men involved in the tournament are former ECW TV champions, and the fourth has held the NWA TV title! The four participants are Terry Funk, 2 Cold Scorpio, “Double A” Arn Anderson, and the man that’s standing in the ring right now, the returning “Franchise” Shane Douglas!
We’re at the Catholic Youth Center in Scranton, PA and “The Franchise” Shane Douglas is in the ring, along with his head cheerleader Francine.
Douglas says that he was wrestling down in Atlanta, wrestling for a real wrestling promotion, not some two-bit operation like this, in real arenas, not these rat-infested shit-holes that ECW runs. Douglas says that his eventually winning the WCW World heavyweight title was a foregone conclusion . . . that is, until “Dick” Flair returned. Flair got into the ear of the championship committee, and Douglas immediately started being moved further and further down the card.
Shane calls Flair a washed up, wrinkled old piece of shit, and that brings out Flair’s former stablemates in the Four Horsemen, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard!
Arn grabs the mic out of Shane’s hand, and tells Douglas that Ric Flair is a legend in this sport, while Douglas has to resort to running his mouth to get any attention.
Anderson says that Shane is a jealous little bitch, and with all the whining he does, he reminds Arn of a certain wrestler up in Stamford, one who refers to himself as HBK.
With that comment, all hell breaks loose!
The Franchise attacks Arn, and knocks him to the mat with a flurry of rights and lefts! Tully jumps Douglas, and they brawl. Douglas delivers a low blow to gain the upper hand, but Anderson has recovered, and he helps Tully double-team Shane.
At that point, Chris Kanyon and Chris Candido hit the ring, chairs in hand! They attack the former Horsemen, and along with Shane Douglas, they bloody Arn and Tully with the chairs.
After a commercial break, we return to Douglas, Kanyon and Candido in the ring.
Douglas says that Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard represent everything that he despises about the sport of professional wrestling, and says that if either of those two ever compare him to Shawn Michaels again, he’ll make sure it’s the last thing they ever do!
Douglas then introduces us to the “new and improved” Triple Threat of himself, Candido and Kanyon!
We go to a ad for ECW’s “House Party ‘97” event from the ECW Arena in January, where the Public Enemy made their return to the Land of Extreme by costing the Dudley Boys their number one contenders match with Sabu and Rob Van Dam.
STEVIE RICHARDS (w/ the Blue Meanie & Goldust) VS. JAMES STORM. Storm is a young wrestler, but shows a lot of promise here, as he gives Richards a tough match. Richards gets the win, though, after connecting with the Stevie Kick for the pinfall.
Footage is shown of Public Enemy interfering in the match between Sabu & Rob Van Dam and the Dudleys at the ECW Arena. Due to PE’s interference, the Dudleys lost the match, and Sabu and Van Dam were named the #1 contenders to the ECW Tag titles.
We go to pre-taped comments from Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley. D-Von says that Public Enemy may call themselves the Mack Daddies of Violence, but he and Bubba Ray are going to show them what violence is really all about!
We cut to a vignette of Joel Gertner. Gertner is standing in front of a mirror, admiring himself, and talking about how handsome he is, and saying that women all across the country want to get with him!
Back to the show, and Joey Styles is rolling his eyes, saying that he thinks he’s going to throw up! He says that he’s never met anyone who’s as in love with themselves as Joel Gertner is.
Joey then talks about a show coming up on Saturday night, February 20 at the ECW Arena, and hypes some of the matches that will take place, including Tommy Dreamer teaming up with his mentor Terry Funk, to face Dreamer’s arch-rival, ECW World champion Raven, and a partner of Raven’s choosing. As an added stipulation, if Dreamer or Funk can pin Raven in the match, they’ll face Raven for the ECW World title at the very first ECW Pay-Per-View “Barely Legal” coming up on Saturday night, April 9 from the ECW Arena!
Styles says that Barely Legal will be the biggest event in the history of Extreme Championship Wrestling, and tells the fans to contact their local cable providers to be a part of the very first ECW Pay-Per-View!
TERRY FUNK VS. MR. WRESTLING III. The masked Wrestling III gives Funk a tough match, but the Funker eventually gains the upper hand and drops Wrestling III on his head with a piledriver for the pinfall.
We go to pre-recorded comments from ECW Tag Team champs the Eliminators. Saturn talks about Sabu and Van Dam earning the spot as #1 contenders to their titles. Saturn says that they may respect Sabu and Van Dam for their talent, but that won’t stop him and Kronus from destroying them!
Back from a commercial break, Joey Styles in the ring with the one-man wrecking crew Taz, along with his manager Bill Alphonso, who gets under everyone’s skin by constantly blowing that whistle!
Joey tries to ask Taz a question, but Taz just glares at him until Joey stops talking, and hands over the mic. Taz takes the mic and says that he’s been calling Sabu out for over a year, and now that Sabu’s back in ECW, he thought that he would finally answer his challenge . . . but apparently he mistook Sabu for somebody with some guts! He says that if Sabu doesn’t want to accept his challenge for a match, that’s fine, because it won’t stop him from coming after Sabu! He says that it might be in the ring, or the dressing room, or maybe in the parking lot, but sooner or later, he’ll get his hands on Sabu and when he does, he’s going to break every bone in Sabu’s body!
A loud “Sabu” chant starts up, and Taz just smirks, and tells them to keep chanting, because Sabu ain’t coming out! He then says that the reason the fans cheer for Sabu is because they’re too stupid to recognize REAL talent!
Joel Gertner hosts a segment hyping ECW merchandise, such as the EC FN’ W shirt, and a t-shirt featuring Tommy Dreamer, Beulah and Kimona Wanalaya.
Joey says it’s time for the main event, and sends us to the ring for Raven vs Rob Van Dam!
ECW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP:
RAVEN (champ) (w/ Lori & Tyler Fullington) VS. ROB VAN DAM. Raven comes to the ring with Sandman’s estranged wife, Lori, and young son, Tyler. Tyler is dressed like Raven.
RVD gains an early advantage, using his martial arts skills to attack the World champ. Raven battles back using his usual brawling tactics, and turns the tables with a low blow on the challenger.
Raven gets several nearfalls, but Van Dam keeps kicking out, and as the match progresses, RVD is able to eventually gain the upper hand again. Van Dam goes to whip Raven into the ropes, but Raven reverses it, and then delivers a drop toehold as RVD rebounds off the ropes. Van Dam hits the mat near the ropes, and Lori Fullington reaches in, grabs Van Dam by his hair, and holds him while Raven stomps away at the challenger, then delivers a kneedrop to the back of RVD’s head.
The crowd errupts as the Sandman charges down the aisle to confront Lori, but before he can do that, he’s attacked from behind by Meng! As Meng assaults the Sandman outside the ring, Raven drops Van Dam with a DDT for the 1, 2, 3!
Meng and Sandman are separated and both are removed from the ringside area. Inside the ring, Raven grabs the ECW title belt from the referee, rolls underneath the bottom rope, and leaves with Lori and Tyler Fullington as Rob Van Dam slowly gets to his feet, holding his head.
We go back to Joey Styles, in front of the ECW banner, and Joey wraps up the show. Joey hypes next week’s show, where we’ll see the #1 contenders match between the Dudleys and Sabu & RVD, in it’s entirety, as well as a TV title tournament match between Arn Anderson and 2 Cold Scorpio.
