World Wrestling Association presents:
Portland Wrestling
TV Episode 004
1/16/1987
Portland Sports Arena
We go to the Portland Sports Arena where Don Coss is standing by in the Crow’s Nest.
Don Coss welcomes us to another week of Portland Wrestling, as we close in on the Portland Special on January 26. This week, we’ll have the Northwest Tag Team Champions Billy Jack Haynes and Chris Adams defending against former champions the Magnificent Malenkos. Plus, it’s a grudge match as Mr. Ebony battles ‘Mean’ Mike Miller, and we’ll speak via satellite to Curt Hennig. Right now, let’s go up to the ring.
BRADY BOONE VS. MOONDOG MORETTI
Don Coss reminds fans that Brady Boone was 1986’s number one rookie draft pick, and has improved so much over the last 12 months. Moretti is a cage veteran who scores a few near falls – especially after a spinning neck-breaker. However, Boone rallies back and uses a victory roll on Moretti to score the three count.
WINNER: BRADY BOONE
‘Hangman’ Bobby Jaggers joins Don Coss up in the Crow’s Nest after the match. The last time Jaggers was in Portland, he was a major fan favourite but it looks like his attitude has changed. “The fact is, Coss, that I started winning a lot more when I stopped listening to what these losers in the crowd had to say,” Jaggers insists. The Hangman says guy like Brady Boone and Billy Jack can pander to these Northwest idiots all they want, but Jaggers will be sticking up for number-one from now on. Jaggers wants gold – and the way to get there is to win the big battle royal coming up at the Portland Special. Bobby Jaggers is looking forward to seeing the faces on these fans when Sandy Barr has to raise the Hangman’s arm in the arm when he tosses all of their favourites over the top rope.
Don Coss: “Right now, let’s take a look at the lineup for the Portland Special – which is Tuesday, January 26 at the Portland Rose Gardena:”

Don Coss is joined via satellite by Curt Hennig, who is standing by in Minneapolis. Curt has the Northwest Title – which he does not have any claim to – flung over his shoulder. Don says that Hennig has been given his title match at Tom Zenk’s request – but he want to know if Curt will be bringing the belt with him to the Rose Garden. “That’s none of your business,” Curt retorts. “Make no mistake, this is MY belt and I’ll bring it if I want to – but only if I’m convinced that thief Tom Zenk won’t steal it again.” Belt or not belt, Curt Hennig will be in the Rose Garden and he’ll show Portland that Tom Zenk is not in his league. Once Curt beats the so-called Z-Man, Zenk has to go to the back of the line because there are bigger and better challenges waiting for their shot. Don Coss reminds fans that Tom Zenk is actually the Northwest Champion – not Curt Hennig.
‘MEAN’ MIKE MILLER VS. MR. EBONY
The Clan practically disintegrated a few weeks ago when Mike Miller walked out on Mr. Ebony in a tag team match. Later, Rip Oliver let it be known that someone called 'The Don' gave him the cash to hire a new and more ‘dangerous’ partner for Miller when The Clan has its rematch with Portland’s Team at the Rose Garden. Mr. Ebony and Mike Miller tear into each other from moment one. Referee Buddy Rose actually does a decent job getting things under control.
Mike Miller is whipped into the corner and drilled with a big clothesline by Mr. Ebony. The masked man drives Miller head-first into the canvas with a bulldog headlock for a near-fall. Mr. Ebony connect with a power-slam, before signaling for the end. However, from the back comes ‘Crippler’ Rip Oliver – and who is this man walking down the aisle with him:
IT’S ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER!
Mr. Ebony is furious as he shouts for Rip Oliver and Abdullah to bring it on. Rip Oliver holds the Madman from the Sudan back, as Buddy Rose warns Rip Oliver not to interfere. However, Mike Miller blasts Mr. Ebony from behind and plants him with a DDT. Miller makes the cover and Buddy Rose has no choice but to make the three count. Mike Miller gets the win over is former tag team partner here. The Clan look ready to continue the beating, until referee Buddy Rose threatens to reverse the decision. Rip Oliver gives his former cohort a quizzical look and then leads his Clan to the dressing room.

We come back with Hacksaw Brett Sawyer standing by with Don Coss in the Crow’s Nest. Don Coss and Hack Sawyer talk about the apparent new member of The Clan, and Don asks how Brett will be able to counteract The Clan in his Portland Special match against Rip Oliver. “Rip Oliver isn’t the only guy around here with friends – and even more important than friends is family,” Sawyer answers. As far as the action in the ring, Sawyer is convinced that he can handle Oliver. If there are outside forces, maybe the Hack will have some back-up prepared. Don Coss tells Rip Oliver to take heed and then sends us back up to the ring for our main event.
TV MAIN EVENT: BEST 2/3 FALLS
NORTHWESST TAG TITLE MATCH
PORTLAND’ TEAM VS. THE MAGNIFICENT MALENKOS
Former Northwest Tag Team Champions Dean and Joe Malenko are already in the ring, as ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ begins playing the House of Action. The Northwest Tag Team Champions Billy Jack Haynes and ‘Judo’ Chris Adams make their way out to the ring and shake hands with the fans seated in the front row around ringside.
Once the action gets under way, Billy Jack gets the crowd going by connecting with a press slam on Joe Malenko. Billy Jack drops Joe Malenko with a back-breaker for a near fall. With the fans chanting, Billy Jack locks in the Full Nelson to score a submission. The champions win the first fall.

Don Coss: “We’re ready for the second fall.”
The Malenkos rebound here by isolating Adams in their corner for much of the fall. Dean Malenko is methodical as he sweeps Adams’ knee and applies a singe-leg crab that has the champion in trouble. Chris Adams refuses to submit and drags himself to the bottom rope to break the fall. Sandy Barr forces a break, and Dean Malenko hooks Chris Adams into a belly-to-back suplex.
Dean Malenko goes for the cover on Chris Adams, and gets a two count. Joe Maleko makes the tag in and he connects with a Northern Lights suplex for another near fall. Malenko then applies a side-headlock that looks dangerously like a choke at certain points under Sandy Barr orders a break. Chris Adams fires back now with a right hand and then a dropkick. Dean Malenko charges in but Chris Adams cracks the Malenkos’ heads together as the bell rings. The time limit for the second fall has expired. The champions have to win the next fall – or it goes to a sudden death fourth fall.

Before the final fall of our TV main event, Don Coss is standing by with ‘Bulldog’ Jesse Barr for a quick word. Jesse will be in the battle royal at the Portland Special along with the likes of Brady Boone, Greg Valentine, Ed Wisoski and ‘Hangman’ Bobby Jaggers. “I heard Bobby Jaggers out here earlier whining and complaining about the fans holding him back,” Jesse says. “The fact is Jaggers, maybe it was YOU who was holding yourself back. If you spent a little more time in the gym and less at the buffet, you might have had some more success in the Northwest." The Bulldog makes it clear that the fans will give anyone a shot as long as they prove themselves, and nobody knows that more than Jesse Barr. It’s his goal to bring home that Tom Peterson’s, and if he wins, he’s going to give it to one lucky fan at the Rose Garden!
Let’s go back to the ring for the final fall of our main event. Billy Jack Haynes starts it off with Dean Malenko, and totally over-powers the Magnificent Malenko. Billy Jack shoots Dean off the ropes with a big clothesline, but to Malenko’s credit he kicks out before three. Billy Jack comes off the ropes for a big elbow drop, but Dean Malenko moves out of the way. Dean Malenko tags out to brother Joe Malenko, who catches Haynes with a side suplex for a three count.
Billy Jack Haynes battles his way back and back-drops Joe Malenko high in the air after shooting him off the ropes. Billy Jack makes the tag to Chris Adams, who comes in like a house on fire with dropkick on both Malenkos. Adams connects with a enziguri on Dean Malenko that sends Dean sprawling out to the floor. Joe Malenko tries to attack from behind, but Chris Adams senses it coming and lays Joe out with a super kick! Chris Adams makes the cover for the three count! The Northwest Champions retain after a gruelling bout!
