SMOKY MOUNTAIN WRESTLING presents
IMPACT! WRESTLING
LIVE on Fox Sports Net
Thursday, December 13, 1995
8pm to 9:30pm
From the Pikeville College Gym in Pikeville, KY
INTRO plays, featuring footage of the stars of Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
- LES THATCHER opens the show from ringside, and introduces his co-host, former Intercontinental Champion THE HONKY TONK MAN!
HONKY TONK corrects Les, saying not only is he a former Intercontinental Champion, but he’s the GREATEST Intercontinental Champion OF ALL-TIME! On top of that, he’s the greatest singer and entertainer the World has ever known!
LES welcomes the fans to the very first edition of IMPACT WRESTLING, right here on FOX Sports Net. This is the most exciting, action-packed 90 minutes of wrestling you’ll find anywhere on planet.
HONKY says that the SMW promoters called him, begging and pleading with him to join the show, they knew it would be a complete disaster without him! Les just rolls his eyes.
LES says that the fans need to mark the date Saturday, January the 19th on their calendars, because that’s the night the very first SMW World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned!
FINAL RESOLUTION will take place at the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, TN on January 19, and the SMW matchmakers have come up with a match that he’s sure will be a real slobberknocker . . . a match they’re calling the SMOKY MOUNTAIN RUMBLE.
The match will feature 6 of the top wrestlers in the World, and the way it works is, two wrestlers will start in the ring, and every 5 minutes, another will join them. Once all 6 wrestlers are in the ring, it basically becomes an Iron Man match. The 6 wrestlers will have 30 minutes, and whoever gets the most pins or submissions in that time will win the match and walk away as the Heavyweight Champion of the World!
HONKY thinks he should be included in the match, but Les says that we will see 6 qualifying matches between now and January 19, to see who will take part in the match.
The first qualifying match will take place right here tonight, as the wildman from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Cactus Jack, squares off with Scott Armstrong, that will be our main event.
HONKY thinks that Cactus Jack has what it takes to walk away with the whole thing and become World Champion, and doubts there’s too many men in the entire wrestling World that can stop him from achieving that goal.
LES says that Scott Armstrong will look to do just that later on tonight.
It’s time for the very first match on Impact Wrestling, as the reigning TV Champion, Bunkhouse Buck, meets Steve Armstrong.
- TV CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
BUNKHOUSE BUCK (Champ) (w/ Jim Cornette) beats STEVE ARMSTRONG via pinfall at 11:19. Armstrong puts up a good fight, but Buck overpowers him, and gets the win after Armstrong goes for a running kneelift, but Buck backs out of the way, then kicks Armstrong in the midsection and drives him down on the top of his head with a vicious Piledriver! That’s all she wrote, and Bunkhouse Buck gets the 1, 2, 3!
- LES and HONKY send us to KEVIN KELLY, who is standing by in the backstage area.
KELLY is standing in front of a Smoky Mountain Wrestling banner, and he’s joined by AL SNOW. Snow is decked out in a suit, wearing a pair of fancy sunglasses.
KELLY says that he’s seen Al Snow plenty of times over the years, but can’t recall seeing him dressed like this.
SNOW says that a man in his position needs to look the part.
When Kelly asks him what position that is, Snow says that his official title is as an Advisor, and he’s here tonight on Impact Wrestling to introduce the World to his new client . . . The TRUE Nature Boy . . . The one . . . The ONLY . . .
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
“NATURE BOY” BUDDY LANDEL!!!
BUDDY walks in and joins Kelly and Snow.
LANDEL says that FOX can go ahead and thank him for the huge ratings spike that they just experienced when his name was announced. He says that any program he’s on is guaranteed to be the most-watched show on television.
LANDEL talks about the Smoky Mountain Rumble on January 19, and says that Al’s been in touch with the Championship Committee to make sure that he’s got a spot in that match. Everyone knows that the match would be a complete flop unless he’s in it, and besides, he’s the only one in this entire promotion that deserves the title of World Heavyweight Champion!
SNOW and LANDEL then spend some time running down the babyfaces that are on the SMW roster before Kevin cuts them off and sends us back to Les and Honky.
- LES and HONKY talk about what we just saw, that Al Snow has joined Buddy Landel as his “advisor”, and Les wonders what exactly that title even means, but Honky says Les isn’t smart enough to understand. Honky thinks it’s a brilliant decision, and expects Landel to go straight to the top of the wrestling World.
- THE MOONDOGS (Spike & Spot) (w/ Jim Cornette) defeat PAT ROSE & MANNY FERNANDEZ via pinfall. Cornette is back out for the second match as well, this time managing the wild Moondogs. The ‘Dogs attack both Rose and Fernandez as soon as the bell rings, and pound them into the mat. Moondog Spot gets the win for his team at the 4-minute mark, after dropping Rose with a huge headbutt, then delivering a big Splash for the pinfall.
- VTR: We see HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN and SGT. SLAUGHTER at a local school, talking to the kids about the dangers of drugs, and how they should work hard in school, and treat people with respect. Duggan and Slaughter then lead the kids in the Pledge of Allegiance.
- LES and HONKY talk about Slaughter and Duggan taking time out of their schedules to talk with the kids. Honky, even though he doesn’t like either of them, respects that they would do that, although he’s sure the kids would have much rather had the Honky Tonk Man there instead!
- AMERICA’S TEAM (Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter) defeat BARRY HARDY & DUANE GILL via submission. Duggan’s more like his old 80s Mid-South character, moreso than the goofy 90s WWF Hacksaw Duggan. Duggan and Slaughter work well together, and put their opponents away when Duggan hits Hardy with the Football Tackle, then Slaughter locks on the Cobra Clutch for the win at 4:14.
- LES and HONKY talk about THE MOUNTIES, two men from Canada who have shown up in Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
- CLIP: We see THE MOUNTIES, Jacques and Pierre, standing in front of the Canadian flag, while “O Canada” plays in the background. They say that the USA, and the Smoky Mountain area in particular, are out of control, they say that Smoky Mountain Wrestling is not what wrestling is supposed to be. But there is hope, because the Mounties are coming to save the day, they’re coming to restore law and order and put Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and America in general, back on track.
PIERRE then starts ranting and raving in French as the video ends.
- LES and HONKY talk about what we just saw, with Honky saying that Smoky Mountain Wrestling is lucky that two men the calibre of the Mounties have decided to clean this place up. Les says that Pierre, one half of the Mounties, will be in action next.
- MOUNTIE PIERRE (w/ Mountie Jacques) beats SONNY ROGERS via pinfall at the 3-minute mark after hitting Rogers with the Maple Leaf Drop (a Legdrop off the top rope).
- LES and HONKY talk about the reigning Tag Team Champions of the World, two men that the Smoky Mountain fans know very well, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock n’ Roll Express. Thatcher introduces a music video featuring the Champions, who he calls the most explosive tag team in wrestling . . .
Rock-N-Roll Express Music Video - Classic Memphis Wrestling Memories
THATCHER talks about the teams lining up for a shot at the World Tag Team Titles, including two teams managed by Jim Cornette, the Heavenly Bodies and the Moondogs.
LES talks about the history between the Rock n’ Roll Express and Jim Cornette, dating back to the 80s in several different promotions including Mid-South and World Championship Wrestling. Cornette has vowed to take the World Tag Team Titles from Morton and Gibson, and his Heavenly Bodies will get that opportunity when they meet the champs for the titles at Final Resolution on January 19.
- NON-TITLE MATCH:
THE ROCK N’ ROLL EXPRESS (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeat THE MASKED YANKEES via pinfall when Morton delivers a backdrop to one of the Yankees, and when the masked man sits up, Gibson comes off the ropes and delivers a dropkick, planting both feet in the masked man’s face. Morton then covers him for the pinfall at 3:19.
- KEVIN KELLY is backstage with CACTUS JACK and MIKE AWESOME.
JACK talks about facing Scott Armstrong in the main event, in a qualifying match for the opportunity to compete in the Smoky Mountain Rumble at Final Resolution. Jack thinks the only reason Scott Armstrong is even in this match with him tonight is because his daddy is the Commissioner. He promises to tear Armstrong apart and advance to the Smoky Mountain Rumble.
AWESOME will face another Armstrong brother, Steve Armstrong, in a qualifying match in a couple of weeks. Awesome runs down the Armstrong family, saying that this obvious nepotism might not bother him so much if these Armstrong punks could actually WRESTLE, but they’re just like their father, talentless and overrated.
- BRAD ARMSTRONG beats PAUL ROMA via pinfall at 7:25 when Brad hit the Russian Legsweep.
- VIDEO: Several of the babyfaces in SMW, including the Armstrong brothers, the Rock n’ Roll Express, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter and Tracy Smothers, wish the fans a safe and happy holiday season.
- LES and HONKY talk about FINAL RESOLUTION, which will take place on Saturday night, January 19 from the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, TN and will be broadcast live right here on FOX Sports Net. They talk about the Smoky Mountain Rumble, which will determine a World Heavyweight Champion, and Les again goes over the rules of the match . . . it will involve 6 wrestlers, who will all draw numbers, the first two will start in the ring, and every 5 minutes, another wrestler will join the match until all 6 are in the ring. At that time, there will be a 30 minute Iron Man match and the wrestler who has the most pinfalls or submissions in that 30 minutes will win.
The first of the 6 wrestlers will be crowned very shortly, as we go to our first qualifying match, and tonight’s main event, between Cactus Jack and Scott Armstrong.
- SMOKY MOUNTAIN RUMBLE QUALIFYING MATCH:
CACTUS JACK beats SCOTT ARMSTRONG via pinfall at 8:13. Scott gives Cactus all he can handle, but the wildman from Truth or Consequences gets the win after dropping Armstrong with the Double-Arm DDT.
- LES and HONKY TONK wrap up the show, and hype next week’s show, which will feature Tracy Smothers facing former WWF star the Warlord in a Smoky Mountain Rumble qualifying match. We’ll also see Buddy Landel, with his “advisor” Al Snow in his corner, taking on a young man who’s only been in the business a few years, but has already made a big name for himself in several areas around the US and Mexico, Christopher Daniels.
