UWF Thursday Night Collision
Airing live from the Charlotte Coliseum
Charlotte, North Carolina
Thanksgiving Night 11/25/93
Show opening video showcasing the rich heritage of the UWF. Clips from Mid-South Wrestling and the UWF show Great Kabuki spraying green mist into the eyes of Dick Murdoch, Junkyard Dog slugging it out with Butch Reed, the R&R Express smashing Jim Cornette’s face into a birthday cake, Ted DiBiase KOing Andre the Giant with his loading black glove, and Steve Williams pinning Big Bubba Rogers for the UWF title are among the highlights.
We go directly to the ring, as President of the UWF, “Cowboy” Bill Watts is in the center of the ring.
Watts: Good evening wrestling fans! And happy Thanksgiving! As you can see, the Universal Wrestling Federation is back! We have a very rich history of providing the best in professional wrestling, and we look forward to once again doing that. We’ve assembled a very fine roster of some of the best talent from around the world. And they’re here to prove they are the very best that this sport has to offer. *crowd loudly cheers* Let’s get down to business . . .
Watts announces that both the TV title and Tag Team titles are up for grabs tonight. He’s selected the top contenders for each championship, and they will face each other tonight. Brad Armstrong will wrestle Tito Santana for the Television Title in our first bout. Our main event tonight will pit Wendell Cooley & Al Perez vs the Midnight Express for the UWF Tag Team Titles. Watts also announces the main event for next week: a 20-man over the top rope Batle Royal. The last 2 men standing will face each other at the UWF’s first PPV, PATH TO GLORY 93, on December 19.
Cut to announcers Jim Ross and Bob Caudle.
Caudle: Wow, what a start!
Ross: You said it, Bob. Ladies and gentleman, welcome to UWF Thursday Night Collision! Here with Bob Caudle, I’m Jim Ross, proud to once again present the UWF to wrestling fans everywhere. Bob, the Cowboy certainly got us off to a rousing start.
Caudle: I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more raucous crowd, and we’re gonna do our best to give them their moneys worth. It’s time to decide the Television Championship, let’s go down to the ring.
Gary Michael Cappetta announces the competitors. Out first is Brad Armstrong, son of the legendary “Bullet” Bob Armstrong. His opponent, Tito Santana, comes out next to a great ovation. Senior official, Randy “Pee Wee” Anderson is the referee for this bout. After a handshake to start, they lock up. Armstrong takes advantage taking Santana down to the mat and out wrestles him there. After a few minutes, Tito reverses a suplex attempt and connects with a deep armdrag and a dropkick that sends Armstrong out to the floor.
Ross: We’ve got to go to break, fans. We’ll be right back.
Commercial break
Ross: We’re back, fans. During the break, Armstrong backed Tito into the corner and landed a nasty European uppercut and has regained control of the match. He looks to be going for a -----
Caudle: Sorry to interrupt, Jim, but Gary Hart has come out to watch the match. It looks like he’s also brought his #1 charge, The Great Muta with him.
Armstrong has locked in a bow & arrow, but Santana won’t submit. Tito manages to break free and land on top for a 2-count. Armstrong up quickly and goes for the side Russian leg sweep, but Santana holds on to the top rope, leaving his opponent to crash hard to the mat. Santana with a series of right hands, then attempts to whip Armstrong into the ropes. Brad reverses and looks for a clothesline, but Santana connects with his patented flying forearm for the pin and TV title at 12:39 of action. Hart and Muta have left the ringside area and Santana celebrates his win with the fans in attendance.
Commercial break
Jim Ross in the interview area and brings out “Dr. Death” Steve Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. They mention their past in the Mid-South/UWF and the wars they’ve been in with each other, both as partners and opponents.
Ross: You guys are probably the most dominant team I’ve ever seen. You’ve won practically every major tag team title in the world. What should the fans of this company expect from you?
Williams: We’re here to win all the gold, Jim. We are THE BEST wrestlers in the world, singles or tags, and we’re gonna prove it.
Gordy: That’s right, Ross, we’re the best and no one here is gonna stop us. Winning championships and making money is what we’re about, even if we gotta fight each other for it.
Williams: *smiles at Ross* Couldn’t have said better myself, JR.
Ross: *watching Gordy and Williams walk away* I don’t think I’ve ever been around more intense men that those two. Let’s go back to the ring.
Cappetta introduces the competitors for the next match: Candi Devine vs Brandi Alexander. Jimmy Cordaris is the ref for this encounter. Solid back-and-forth action turns abruptly when Alexander connect with an elbow to Devine’s jaw. A few minutes later, Alexander finishes with a bridging German suplex.
Commercial break
Jim Ross is again in the interview area, joined by Sting.
Ross: Well fans, this man is a familiar sight to this company. Truly a legend in the making, a 3-time World Heavyweight Champion, Sting!
Sting: *screams* How ya doing, Jim? *points to the fans* Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! It is great to be back in the UWF.
Ross: Sting, you’re one of the most accomplished competitors in the world, but we have several men on the roster that could say the same thing. How do you think you match up to some of -----
Gary Hart: I’ll tell you how he matches up, Ross. Yes, you are a phenomenal athlete and a fine wrestler, but I think you are on the downside of your career, Sting.
Sting: Downside? I’ll show y---------
Hart: I wasn’t finished talking, surfer boy. As I was saying, Your days of winning world titles and beating the best in the world are over. My man, The Great Muta, is the present and future of this business. Unlike you, his best days are AHEAD of him and -----
Sting: Bring him out here! Let’s see him prove that I can’t hang with him.
Ross: Well, both Sting and Muta are among the 20 men in next week’s battle royal. I’m sure th----------
Hart: That’s all well and good, Ross. Muta will be one of the final 2 men standing at the end and will win the world title at Path to Glory. If you’re lucky enough to be the man he faces, I’ll tell Muta not to slap you around too much before pinning you.
Sting: *grabs Hart’s tie* Slap me around?!? I oughtta -----
Out of nowhere, Muta attacks Sting with a steel folding chair, landing a solid shot to the back. Sting tries to get to his feet while Hart lays in the trash talk. Muta lands chops to the head and kicks to the massive chest of the Stinger. A body slam to the exposed concrete follows. Before Muta can inflict more damage, Tito Santana, Norman Smiley, Iceman Parsons, and Tim Horner come out to make the save, chasing off Muta and Hart.
Ross: We’ve got to take a break, fans.
Commercial break
Ross: Hart and Muta have been told to leave the arena, and Sting is receiving medical attention.
Caudle: We’ve got the list of the men in next week’s main event battle royal:
Graphic comes up on the screen listing the 20 men:
Sting The Great Muta Stan Hansen Steve Williams
Larry Zbyszko Jake Roberts Hiroshi Hase Kensuke Sasaki
Booker T Stevie Ray La Parka Norman Smiley Terry Gordy
Tom Pritchard Jimmy Del Ray Butch Reed LaParka
Dick Slater Iceman King Parsons Tim Horner Super Crazy
Caudle: That’s quite the lineup. And it’s to determine who is going to compete for the UWF World Heavyweight Title.
Ross: It certainly should be a fantastic main event next week. I wonder if Sting is going to be able to take part in it, though. He took quite a beating a few minutes ago.
Caudle: It’s time for the main event of the evening, fans. Take it away, Gary
Cappetta: Wrestling fans, it is time for tonight’s main event. This match is for the vacant UWF World Tag Team Titles. Introducing first, at a combined weight of 473 lbs, Wendell Cooley and Al Perez! *Cooley and Perez come out to a good fan response* And their opponents, weigh----
Jim Cornette: Wait just a minute, Cappetta. I’ll handle the introduction of my men. Ladies and gentlemen, here they are. They’re the human highlight reel of professional wrestling. The greatest tag team to ever grace God’s green earth, “Beautiful” Bobby and “Sweet” Stan, the Midnight Express!
Caudle: He’s got a very high opinion of his guys.
Ross: He should, Bob. They are one of the finest teams I’ve ever seen, like ‘em or not.
Referee Billy Silverman calls for the bell to start the match. Early feel-out period between Eaton and Cooley, leads to Cooley taking command with a headlock. A few quick tags with Perez keeps Eaton off-balance. Cornette constantly badgers the ref about supposed hair and tights pulling. A blind tag allows Lane to come in for a double-team on Perez, but it backfires and Cooley and Perez dropkick the Express out of the ring.
Commercial break
We’re back with Cooley working over Lane’s arm, and a tag to the “Latin Heartthrob” leads to a double suplex. Perez picks up Lane, but gets kneed in the gut and pushed into the MX corner. Silverman separates both men, but Eaton lands a monster right hand to the jaw of Perez at the 12 minute mark. “Beautiful” Bobby gets the tag and the double team moves commence once Lane has had a few minutes to rest. After some great MX moves, Eaton goes up to the top rope, but Perez moves out of the way of the Alabama Jam leg drop. Hot tag to Cooley and the Wildcat cleans house. Arm drags and dropkicks to both men. Perez comes in and slugs it out with Eaton. Cooley with a superkick on Lane. Silverman is trying to maintain order and get Eaton and Perez out of the ring. Cooley goes to the corner to set up the bulldog on Lane, but Jim Cornette gets on the ring apron after sliding his tennis racquet into the corner. Cornette gets slugged to the floor, but Lane smashes Cooley’s head with the loaded racquet. Eaton and Perez spill out to the floor, so the ref turns his attention back to the legal men and makes the 3-count after 19 minutes of action. The Midnight Express are the new UWF World Tag Team champions!
Ross: What a match! We’re out of time, fans. Tune in next week for the battle royal to determine the top contenders for the World Title. For Bob Caudle, I’m good ol’ JR. Happy Thanksgiving and good night, everyone!
