WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
WCW Saturday Night Theme (1994-1997)
Center Stage Theatre, Atlanta, GA
November-27-1993 (Taped November-23-1993)
*The theme music and intro video play to open the show and as the music fades, the camera closes in on "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, Michael PS Hayes, and Mike Tenay standing in front of a WCW logo.
*MIKE TENAY introduces himself to the fans and welcomes them to the return of World Championship Wrestling here on TBS. DUSTY RHODES informs the fans that Tenay is regarded as the foremost expert on professional wrestling today and welcomes "The Professor" to the Mothership. MICHAEL PS HAYES laughs and says that Tenay may be brainy but we'll find out if he knows as much about fighting as the man who walks down Bad Street USA each and every night of the week. Tenay tells his colleagues that it's a true honor to be working with two true legends in the sport of wrestling and he hopes to keep all of the fans entertained with his insights. Mike promises that there will be a lot of big news today and also "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair will make a special announcement during this telecast! WCW President NICK BOCKWINKEL makes his way out to the announce position and shakes hands with both Rhodes and Hayes, before mentioning that he believes that Mikey Tenay is the best analyst in the sport today. Bockwinkel acknowledges that WCW has not been TBS in a few weeks, but insists that the action has not stopped since Halloween Havoc about a month ago. Nick adds that on the program today we'll see WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Dustin Rhodes and WCW World TV Champion Lord Steven Regal in action.
*Nick Bockwinkel wants to talk for a moment about the WCW World Heavyweight Title situation. The current champion Big Van Vader won a controversial match over Cactus Jack at Halloween Havoc, but not without help from Harley Race. Bockwinkel announces that Race's WCW contract has been terminated and a rematch between Vader and Cactus has been signed for a special Christmas Eve telecast here on TBS that will be called Season's Beatings from The Spectrum in Philadelphia. On that program, the two men will meet one last time within the confines of a 15-foot high steel cage to keep any outsiders from interfering. Bockwinkel says that things will settled and we'll need a new #1 contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Title after Season's Beatings. Nick mentions that he'll be back later to talk more about this. He also teases that the brand new WCW World Tag Team Champions will be here later but he won't spoil the surprise as to who they are. Bockwinkel again thanks the announcers for their time and promises to bring all the fans the very best in professional wrestling action…
COMMERCIAL BREAK
*Mike Tenay is about to throw it up to our esteemed ring announcer GORDON SOLIE, but he is interrupted as the camera pans to PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY making his way to the ring! We haven't seen this man in WCW for over a year. Paul takes the microphone from Gordon Solie and tells the fans that he was disgusted by what he just heard from Nick Bockwinkel. Dangerously accuses Bockwinkel to taking advantage Big Van Vader's loss of a manager to strong-arm him into signing a cage match against Cactus Jack. Paul says that it's time that Big Van Vader has someone in his corner that make sure he gets the biggest money and best deals possible and you are looking at him. Paul proclaims that he is the new "agent" of the World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader! Paul warns that Cactus Jack better get ready for this cage match because it's the last shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Title he's going to get. Dangerously then calls out his #1 client, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion BIG VAN VADER…
-1- WCW World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader (w/ Paul E Dangerously) defeated Charlie Norris at 2:16 after the monstrous Vader connected with a single-arm choke-slam on Norris. After the bell, Dangerously urged Vader to finish the job causing the WCW World Heavyweight Champion to drive Charlie Norris into the canvas with a brutal powerbomb…
*VTR: We get a special look at the All-Japan Tag Team Champions DOUG FURNAS & DAN KROFFAT in action from the land of the rising sun. Furnas and Kroffat have developed an innovative offensive arsenal and they have used it to defeat some of the top wrestlers from around the globe today. Fans, Doug Furnas and Dan Kroffatt are on their way to World Championship Wrestling:
COMMERCIAL BREAK
*Lance Russell is backstage and reminds fans that Ric Flair will be here later in the hour for some comments. He is then joined by THE BRITISH BULLDOG, the superstar that fought WCW World Television Champion Lord Steven Regal to a time limit draw at Halloween Havoc. Bulldog tells Lance that he respects Regal as one of the best wrestlers in the world today, but he doesn't approve of the tactics that Regal and his assistant Sir William use to keep that title. Davey doesn't think that Regal is a very good example of his home country of Great Britain and he's going to challenge him for another shot at the WCW World Television Title so the fans can have a champion that they can be proud of. Davey Boy Smith warns both Lord Steven Regal and Sir William that he'll be watching Regal's title match against Erik Watts later today to make sure that nothing funny goes on…
-2- WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Dustin Rhodes defeated Hack Meyers at 4:55 after connecting with a running bulldog on Meyers. Rhodes looked great in this match, dominating the promising young challenger Hack Meyers from bell to bell…
*Lance Russell interviews former NWA World Heavyweight Champion MASA CHONO, who is joined by his manager SONNY ONO. Onoo tells Russell that he heard Nick Bockwinkel mention that we will soon be crowning a #1 contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Onoo reveals that he has brought Chono back to the United States because it is his destiny to become the champion of the greatest wrestling company in the world today. Onoo adds that he expects his client to be named the #1 contender later today because if he isn't, Chono will be unleashed to break as many bones as it takes to get his point across. Lance Russell asks if he can speak to Chono and asks the man if he's ready for the stiff competition that WCW provides. Chono simply stares back at Russell with a look of disgust on his face and refuses to answer Lance's question. A frustrated Russell sends us to commercial break as Sonny Onoo smiles deviously for the camera…

*VTR: We are taken to a dark locker-room where CACTUS JACK is sitting against a black wall. Cactus speaks softly as he congratulates Big Van Vader on a getting a win over him at Halloween Havoc, even if took Harley Race's help to get it done. Now, the WCW President Nick Bockwinkel has signed for one last match to settle things between them, a steel cage match on Christmas Eve. The man from Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico says that a lot of people may think he's crazy for wanting to be locked in a steel cage with Vader, especially since the WCW World Heavyweight Champion is supposed to be one of the dangerous wrestlers in the sport today. He smiles that toothless grin of his and declares that everyone has it all wrong. Cactus says: "The cage isn't to keep your friends out, it's to keep me in. You see Vader, you should consider yourself lucky because now I won't be able to grab a steel chair and break it over your head! I won't be able to grab that ring ball and crush your damn skull! At the end of the night, I'll have taken the WCW World Heavyweight Title, but you might be lucky enough to survive. It's closing time Vader, but rest assured that I'll be the one to turn off the lights. Bang bang!" Cactus stares into the camera with those wild eyes of his as we fade out on the scene…
-3- Masa Chono (w/ Sonny Onoo) defeated Van Hammer at 7:02 after forcing the heavy metal rocker to submit to the STF. Sonny Onoo entered the ring after the match and raised Chono's right arm high in the air as the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion stared coldly into the camera…
*Lance Russell is standing by with WCW United States Heavyweight Champion DUSTIN RHODES. Russell tells fans that Rhodes has recently defeated Ravishing Rick Rude all around the WCW live events circuit as clips of the matches are shown. VTR footage shows Rhodes pinning Steve Austin right in the middle of the ring to retain his title from WCW Pro. Then we see, Rhodes dropkicking Rick Rude over the top rope causing the so-called Ravishing One to high-tail it to the back. Back live, Rhodes says he's beaten Steve Austin and Rick Rude after feuding with both men for quite some time and he's looking forward to facing new challengers. At this point, the interview is interrupted by a man we haven't seen in quite some time, a former member of the Four Horsemen- Tully Blanchard! Tully says it looks like nepotism is alive and well here in WCW as always because a Rhodes has championship gold. Dustin replies that he respects Tully, but he wants to make it clear that he's earned this title by defeating the likes of Rick Rude and Steve Austin in recent months. Blanchard snickers as he tells Dustin that he maybe haven beaten a few no-names, but he's never beaten the greatest US Heavyweight Champion of all time. Tully says he'd whip Dustin just like he whipped his big fat daddy all those years ago. The two men go face-to-face as Lance Russell urges both men not to take things too far. Dustin tells Tully that if he wants a shot at the US Heavyweight Title, all he has to do is sign on the dotted line. Tully pats Dustin on the shoulder and says he's got a temper just like Dusty – that will prove to be a big mistake. Tully walks off as Dustin stews…

*Lance Russell is standing at the top of the entrance ramp and he talks about The Nasty Boys losing the WCW World Tag Team Titles a few weeks ago. At this time, he'd like to call out the brand new champions – PRETTY WONDERFUL. The fans boo as the new champs make their way out to the ramp to gloat with the shiny gold belts. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff tells Lance Russell that it's high time that this company has two good looking champions, not the ugly bums that used to hold the titles. Orndorff adds that he and Roma have offered to face The Nasty Boys again in a rematch, but those punks have turned tail and run to a promotion with lesser competition. Orndorff says he heard that they were so scared that they even bought some cheap toy belts so they could pretend to throw them away. Orndorff holds up the gold title to the camera and tells anyone and everyone that it was real clear that the Nasty Boys couldn't cut in here WCW so they turned tail and ran away to a place where they take they wrestle against other "cartoon characters". Mr. Wonderful says that anyone and everyone can see that he's not cartoon character, he's all-man. Orndorff closes by saying that here in WCW we have actual wrestlers, not goofs like the big fatso champion in the other fed that pretends to be Japanese or sissies pretending to be Canadian mounted police. Roma adds that those goofs just couldn't stand to be in the ring with two men that are so much better than them in every single conceivable way. Orndorff and Roma share a hearty laugh as the fans begin to boo once again…
*WCW President NICK BOCKWINKLE walks out and congratulates Pretty Wonderful on becoming the WCW World Tag Team Titles. Nick tells Lance that now that we have new champions, we'll need to have teams that can take them on. Of course, the team of Doug Furnas and Dan Kroffat will likely work their way into contention quickly but they won't be here in WCW for a few weeks. Bockwinkel says that what is called for is a tag team that has instant credibility to challenge for the WCW World Tag Team Titles. Orndorff cracks that no team in WCW is a credible threat to Pretty Wonderful. Nick retorts that Mr. Wonderful will get to put that theory to the test because at Season's Beatings, we'll see Pretty Wonderful defending their belts against… THE ROAD WARRIORS!! Orndorff and Roma angrily protest the announcement as "Iron Man" begins playing over the PA! "PRECIOUS" PAUL ELLERING and the Legion of Doom make their return to WCW! After the two teams square off and nearly come to blows, Pretty Wonderful walk off to the dressing room at Bockwinkle's request as Paul Ellering tells Lance Russell that Orndorff and Roma have "been very bad boys this year" and that means that they won't just get coal for Christmas, they'll also be receiving a Season's Beating that they'll never forget. Hawk shouts that the Road Warriors are back in WCW- "Ohhhhhh what a rush!" The fans are going crazy as Hawk, Animal, and Ellering make their way towards the ring…
-4- The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) (w/ "Precious" Paul Ellering) pinned Jeff Gaylord & Ice Train at 4:56 after Hawk connected with a clothesline off the top rope to score the win over the former Missouri football star Jeff Gaylord…
*VTR: JOHNNY B. BADD is standing in front of WCW logo. He says that he's very excited that WCW is back and better than ever because this is where the big boys play. Johnny says he's been injured in recent months, but he's spent the time and energy getting back to 100%. He's looking forward to facing the biggest and best competition here in World Championship Wrestling. Badd adds that he'd look "soooooo pretty" with some championship gold around his waist so he's putting all the champs on notice. Johnny closes by telling the fans that this "is a very good time to be a very BADD man"…
COMMERCIAL BREAK
*Michael PS Hayes tells Mike Tenay and Dusty Rhodes that he's got the inside scoop on the WCW debut of one of the hottest prospects in professional wrestling today. Hayes wants to watch a special VTR on a man that can be described as a double threat because he's not just a great wrestler, but he's also the greatest country singer in the world today. Let's take a look at this special VTR from "DOUBLE J" JEFF JARRETT:
Jeff Jarrett "sings" "With My Baby Tonight"
-5- WCW World Television Champion Lord Steven Regal (w/ Sir William) pinned Erik Watts at 9:15 after connecting with a gutwrench suplex on the second generation star. Sir William tried to interfere at several points, but soon "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith made his way down to ringside and chased Sir William around the ringside area and back to the dressing room. Regal was able to stay focused enough to score the win over Watts after landing one of his signature suplexes…
*Lance Russell steps into the ring to interview an angry LORD STEVEN REGAL. In the haughty manner of his, Regal lets it be known that he's none too pleased by the so-called British Bulldog running off his assistant Sir William. He normally doesn't like to get involved in vendettas, but it's time to teach that unsophisticated little toe rag Davey Boy Smith a lesson. Regal lets it be known that he will take up the challenge for The British Bulldog for Season's Beatings, but warns Davey that he's going to twist him like "that wretched tripe you Americans call a pretzel" and he may just snap a few bones in the process. Regal then steps by Russell and makes his way to the dressing room as we go to our last commercial break…

*As we come back, the lights dim as a spotlight shines on the aisle way. The famous theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey begins playing in the arena as RIC FLAIR makes his way out to a huge reception. Flair steps into the ring and lets out a few "woos" as the fans give him a standing ovation. Lance Russell joins Flair in the ring and tells him it wouldn't be WCW without The Nature Boy being in attendance. Flair soaks in the applause for a minute and then tells "Lancer" that there isn't a place he'd rather be today than right here in a WCW ring because this is where the best wrestlers in the sport today compete. And that's why he has something very serious to say today…
RIC FLAIR: "The fact of the matter is this, Lancer. I have spent more than 15 years in this sport, a sport that I gave my heart and soul to. A sport that I helped take to new heights. These people know that whether I was going 90 minutes with Blackjack Mulligan in Charlotte, trying to keep Rufus R Jones from tripping over his feet in Kansas City, or schooling Randy Savage in New York- the Nature Boyd laaaaaaaid it on the line! I can go to bed EACH AND EVERY night KNOWING that there has never been another man that loved this sport of professional wrestling as much as Ric Flair does! That's why I've had to make an important decision, Lancer.
"I came back here to World Championship Wrestling six months ago because I knew that this is the place where the marquee truly says it all. WCW is about wrestling and the people you fans see in this ring are the very best WRESTLERS in the world today. I'd like to see that bald musclehead with the cheesy mustache try to match Lord Steven Regal hold for hold. Let's if the so-called wrestling tax collector could keep up with an expert technician like Dustin Rhodes.I'd put money on the fact that these so-called extreme wrestlers couldn't bring a table into the ring if they were up against Big Van Vader because he'd break their arm first. WCW is home of the top wrestlers in the sport today. This is the place where I've built my legacy and it's the place where I plan to complete that legacy BY WALKIN' THE AISLE to win that WCW World Heavyweight Title again!
"That's why I came back and that's what I plan to do. I have to prove to myself that The Nature Boy Ric Flair is still the best damn wrestler in the sport and the only way to do that is to take the WCW World Heavyweight Title from Big Van Vader. So I've set a goal for myself… I will win that WCW World Heavyweight Title by six months from today. I'm giving myself six months to prove once again that there's no one better in this business than the NAAAAAAAAAAAAA-WOOOOOOOO-TURE BOY! AND IF I DON'T!!!! (Calms down) If I don't- well, Ric Flair will walk away from this sport forever. I will retire. Because I cannot go on if I'm not totally convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm as good as I ever was and better than everyone else! SO… MARK… THAT… CALENDAR... NOW!!! Because the Flair For The Gold begins right here, right now! Ric Flair's path towards the WCW World Heavyweight Title is underway!"
*Lance Russell and the fans are shocked by this announcement, but Flair insists that this the decision he needs to make. At this point, the interview is interrupted by SONNY ONO and MASA CHONO, who both receive a rather negative reaction from the fans. Onoo says that he's not going to sit in the dressing room while Ric Flair steals the spotlight yet again on a WCW telecast, especially now that a superior athlete like Chono is competing in the promotion. Flair laughs a little and says that he respects Chono as one hell of a tough competitor, but he doesn't have any respect for a little pipsqueak manager like Sonny Onoo. An angry Chono steps up to Flair and they look they're ready to start brawling here. WCW President Nick Bockwinkel steps into the ring and orders both men to back off. Bockwinkel says first things first because Flair made a promise to these fans here today that he would retire in six months if he isn't the WCW Champion and while he hates to say it, he'll have to hold Flair to his word if he fails to take the gold by April 27, 1994. Flair said he'd expect no less from Bockwinke and says that Ric Flair's word is as good as gold. Bockwinkel nods and then moves on to talk about this unique situation where we have two former World Heavyweight Champions that should be considered for a shot at whoever wins the Vader/Cactus match. Bockwinkel thinks the only solution is to put Chono and Flair in the ring against each other to decide who becomes the #1 contender at Season's Beatings. Bockwinkel says that right here next week, we'll have a contract signing for the match. Flair and Sonny Onoo both nod in approval, but Masa Chono tries to land a cheap shot on Ric! Flair sees is coming and blocks the punch, then lands a few knife-edge chops that send Masa out to the floor. Sonny Onoo leaps out to the floor and urges Chono to wait until the big match as Ric Flair stands tall in the ring. Lance Russell talks about what a huge show it has been, especially with this new that Flair will retire if he doesn't win the WCW World Title within six months. He sends it back up to Mike Tenay, Dusty Rhodes, and Michael PS Hayes to wrap up this week's program…
MIKE TENAY: Fans, we'll see you next week for another exciting edition of World Championship Wrestling's flagship program WCW Saturday Night here on Superstation TBS! For Michael PS Hayes and The American Dream, this is Mike Tenay saying good night and good luck!
