1) Marc Rocco pinned Roy Lee Welch at 10:08 with a moonsault press.
2) Billy Joe Travis pinned the Mighty Yankee at 12:30 with a sunset flip.
3) The Masked Superstar defeated Tojo Yamamoto via submission at 8:18 with the Cobra clutch. Yamamoto still has some gas left in the tank, as he gave the Superstar a tough fight, but in the end, the masked man got the win.
4) Scott Irwin pinned Johnny Rich at the 13-minute mark after loading his elbowpad, and connecting with a Lariat.
5) Southern Tag Team Champions “Wild” Bill Irwin & Big Bubba Rogers fought Tommy “Wildfire” Rich & Terry Taylor to a No Contest at 14:20. This match was a wild one, as Rich and Taylor showed that, while they’re mainly scientific wrestlers, when push comes to shove, they can brawl with the best of them. The champions took an early advantage, keeping Rich in their corner, and working him over. Several times, Taylor tried to come in and help his partner, but the referee quickly forced him back to his corner, which gave the champions the opportunity to do some double-teaming. When Rich finally fought his way out of the champions corner, and made the tag, Irwin distracted referee Paul Neighbours, causing Neighbours to miss the tag. Finally, Rich was able to tag out, and Taylor came in like a house of fire, knocking the champions around, even slamming their heads together, knocking both of them from the ring. The champions both jumped back into the ring together, and ganged up on Taylor. Terry tried to fight them off, but it didn’t take long for the champions to get the upper hand and pound Taylor to a pulp. Tommy Rich, having recovered somewhat from the beating he took earlier, jumped into the ring to help his friend, and all four men brawled in the ring. The referee tried to get a member of each team to leave the ring, but it was no use, all four men continued to battle in the ring. Finally Neighbours called for the bell and threw the match out, declaring it a No Contest.
The four combatants didn’t care, they took their brawl to the floor, and eventually out into the first few rows of seats, with the fans scattering to avoid the wrestlers. That went on for several minutes, before security and several wrestlers and referees were able to separate the two teams.
***INTERMISSION***
6) Sweet Sensation: Stan Lane & Shawn Michaels defeated the Interns at the 6-minute mark when Lane connected with a superkick on one of the Interns for the pinfall.
Prior to the start of the next match, co-matchmaker Tom Renesto came to the ring, and introduced the special referee for the Southern title match . . . “Superstar” Bill Dundee! Dundee ran down to the ring, wearing a referee’s shirt, to a chorus of boos from the crowd.
7) Southern Heavyweight Champion Ted Dibiase pinned Dutch Mantell at the 21-minute mark. With the addition of Bill Dundee as the special referee, it became obvious right from the start that Mantell was not going to win this match. The Superstar was openly biased in his officiating, making fast counts when Dibiase covered Mantell, but then counting extremely slowly when Mantell had the champion covered. Late in the match, Dundee refused to even count when Mantell had Dibiase covered, instead turning his back and arguing with some ringside fans! Mantell jumped up, spun Dundee around, then argued with him. Mantell shoved Dundee, with the Superstar shoving Dutch back! Mantell then slugged Dundee with a haymaker! At that point, Dibiase snuck up behind Mantell and rolled him up, with a handful of Mantell’s trunks. Dundee dropped to the mat, and made a lightning-quick three count!
Dundee raised Dibiase’s arm, then both men jumped out of the ring as Mantell went at them. Dibiase and Dundee left ringside, with Dutch Mantell fuming inside the ring.
8) NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jerry “the King” Lawler pinned Koko Ware at 25:50. Koko showed why he’s considered to be one of the most underrated wrestlers in North America today, as he went toe to toe with the King. Koko surprised a lot of people by wrestling a clean, scientific match for the most part. The match went back and forth for more than 20 minutes, with Lawler eventually gaining the upper hand, and connecting with the fistdrop for the pinfall victory!
After the decision, Koko got to his feet, and stormed over to Lawler, who put his fists up, daring Koko to try something. Instead, Koko offered his hand, and after a moment, Lawler shook it. Koko then raised Lawler’s arm, before leaving the ring. As Koko climbed through the ropes, “Superstar” Bill Dundee jumped into the ring, and blindsided Lawler!
Dundee puts the boots to Lawler. Koko Ware, after hesitating for a moment, climbed back into the ring and went to help Lawler, but Dundee raked Koko’s eyes, then kicked him in the stomach and tossed Koko from the ring.
Dundee then went after Lawler again, focusing on the knee of the King. Dundee jumped out of the ring, grabbed a chair, and repeatedly bashed Lawler’s leg with it! The King rolled around on the mat, clutching his knee, as Dundee continued to assault him. Finally several wrestlers and referees hit the ring and dragged the Superstar out of the ring and to the back.
Tommy Rich, Terry Taylor and several other babyfaces helped Lawler to the back, as the King was unable to stand on his own.
