Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat returned to WCW after the bout and brought the fight to Bubba, whose T-Shirt read “I retired Wahoo.” It was announced that Rogers would defend his title against the former champion, Steamboat, at Starrcade in 2 weeks.

Stevie Ray w/Sister Sherri defeated Rick Steiner by Countout.

Scott Steiner p. World Tag Team Champion Beautiful Bobby w/Col. Parker. The use of Col. Parker’s cane backfired and led to Eaton being caught in the Frankensteiner.



In the Main Event
Sting and Diamond Dallas Page defeated The Faces of Fear, Meng and Barbarian w/Kevin Sullivan by DQ when Hugh Morrus and Kevin Sullivan attacked. As the beatdown concluded, United States heavyweight Champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper swaggered to the ring, and “Good Night Irene,” had the Stinger counting sheep with his dreaded Sleeper hold as Nitro went off the air.




Johnny B. Badd attacked Scott Norton during a backstage interview being conducted by Bob Caudle. This makes 3 weeks in a row these two have been in dressing room altercations, leading to their big Taped Fist showdown at Starrcade.


International wrestling journalist Mauro Ranallo voiced over two video packages highlighting the careers of International Grand Prix Champion Keiji Mutoh and Heavyweight Champion of the World Curt Hennig. Followed their careers from the very beginning in the footsteps of wrestling greats, Antonio Inoki and Larry “the Ax” Hennig, to their legendary bouts, including both men having defeated Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan at different points in their career, to today being recognized as the two best wrestlers in the World.


The contract signing for this World Heavyweight Championship match ended wildly as Keiji Mutoh unleashed the Great Muta, moonsaulted Hennig through the table, busted the champion open with a piece of the shattered table, and signed the contract in Curt Hennig’s blood. Muta ran his thumb across his throat spewed his green mist, and left the champion to be carried from the ring.

Match Results:

Booker T. and Tag Champ “Beautiful” Bobby w/Sister Sherri and Col. Parker defeated Robbie Eagle and Joe Gomez despite the inability to communicate and refusal to work together.

Scott Steiner and Tag Champ Rick Martel w/Col. Rob Parker defeated The Texas Hangmen. Scotty and Martel worked surprisingly well together during the bout, Martel gave Steiner a thumbs up/pat on the back ad nausem, and would have Psycho or Killer in a compromised position when tagging Scotty in. Scotty delivered monster Steinerlines to each member of the Hangmen to get the 1,2,3 and gave one to Martel for good measure, to the delight of the crowd.

The Suicide Blondes, Christian Cage and Lenny Lane vs. Stevie Ray and Rick Steiner never got started as Steiner and Stevie brawled around the ring, into the crowd, out of the crowd, up the ramp, and into the back.

Greg “the Hammer” Valentine w/Col. Rob Parker p. Julio Fantastico

Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat p. Blacktop Bully in his first match back since being injured at the hands of Big Bubba Rogers, who attempted to jump the Dragon after his match. But Steamboat was prepared and met Bubba with a few of his famous knife edge chops and stopped the raging TV Champ in his tracks.



Wrestling Journalist Mauro Ranallo was interviewed by Bob Caudle about the differences between Keiji Mutoh and The Great Muta. Ranallo describes Muta as the Darkside of Mutoh. When Mutoh first came to the United States his generosity and his respectful nature along with the language barrier got him mistreated and abused by promoters and managers. That was when The Great Muta arrived, unleashed hell on professional wrestling, and brought Mutoh success in America. Muta is willing to do things that Mutoh is not, Muta has no problem with stomping on sportsmanship or going to gruesome extremes to emerge victorious, and he proved that when he signed his contract with the blood of Curt Hennig.
The World Heavyweight Champion was also interviewed by Caudle and says that he is glad to know that he will be facing Muta and not Mutoh, and now Hennig knows exactly how far he better be willing to go to retain his championship, and Muta and the wrestling world can bet on Curt Hennig doing whatever it takes to stay on top of the mountain.


U.S. Champion Roddy Piper was interviewed about putting Sting to sleep last week and says that Sting has been whining and crying about how Hot Rod conducts business. He says that Sting is by far the loudest, most gullible “pawn” that Piper has ever used. Piper says that he knew Hennig would duck him, he knew Hennig wouldn’t fight him like a man, that is why he used Sting to get to Lex Luger, and to become the US Champion. But before Piper gets Hennig, the “pawn” has to be dealt with. Sting couldn’t just take it like a man, when you act like a naïve child Sting you will get treated as such. Now it’s time for “Daddy to take ya to the woodshed” Piper says he will teach Sting how to take it like a man now, and that the sleeper last week was just a taste of how Piper handles his business.


Sting responds in an interview saying that he doesn’t care about pawns, chess, or woodsheds. All he cares about is getting his hands on Roddy Piper. Piper talks big, but wrestling is about winning and losing fights. And instead of winning fights like a man, Roddy Piper has played mind games and politics. But “ya see, that just ain’t the Stinger’s style” and Piper likes to say that when you have the answers he changes the questions, well “at Starrcade 20 questions is over Roddy, and you the Piper will have to pay the Stinger, OWWWWWW.”

In a clash of newcomers the highly touted Chris Jericho defeated Prince Iaukea by submission. This was a high paced effort that saw flashes from Iaukea, but it was Jericho who really shined. The young man from Long Island landed a devastating flying moonsault from the second rope on the inside, and finished Iaukea off with a high angled boston crab variation that looked brutal.

Renegade Warrior Chris Youngblood and Kendall Windham defeated Psycho and Killer, The Texas Hangmen by pinfall when Youngblood nailed Killer with the “End of the Trail” Superkick.

Scott Norton defeated Johnny B. Badd in a taped fist match when Badd was unable to reach his feet before Referee Mark Curtis was able to reach the count of ten. This was a brutal contest that saw a vicious side of Scott Norton that hasn't been seen since his US Title feud with Lex Luger, Johnny B. was left a bloddy, battered mess.

The Faces of Fear w/Kevin Sullivan defeated Robbie Eagle and Joe Gomez. Meng put Eagle down with the Tongan Spike and then locked on the Tongan Death Grip for the submission. Barbarian delivered the Kick of Fear to Gomez who went sailing over the top rope.

For the World Television Championship

Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat defeated Big Bubba Rogers to become the New Champion! Bubba had his way with the smaller challenger in the early going, but was unable to put the Dragon away. Steamboat continued to dig deep, and survive. He got the big man into deep water, and picked up the pace, and was able to finish Bubba with his patent top rope high cross body.

If DDP wins Kimberly will be free to accompany him to ringside, if Morrus wins Kimberly cannot return to WCW

Diamond Dallas Page defeated Hugh Morrus w/Kevin Sullivan after landing multiple Diamond Cutters. This was a wild and crazy brawl that the referee allowed to continue knowing the rage that had been building. The ring posts, steel steps, and ringside guard rails came into play numerous times throughout the “match.” DDP was able to catch Morrus as he was going to the top rope, and deliver a BANG! Super Diamond Cutter, followed by a Diamond Cutter to Kevin Sullivan to finally pick up the victory. Kimberly came to the ring and celebrated with her man after the contest.

Triangle Elimination, Unification match with a 60 Minute Time Limit

The Super Models w/Col. Parker vs. Harlem Heat w/Sister Sherri vs. The Steiner Brothers
Two legal men in the ring, a legal competitor can tag any member of any team, you cannot eliminate your own team, pinfall and submission, count-out and disqualification are all methods of elimination.

The weeks leading up to this big contest have seen these teams compete with and against one another in just about every conceivable way, and the only thing that has been proven is that on any given night any of these teams can beat the other, they are just that even. The match features fine technical wrestling, quick paced action, as well as melee style brawls. It is obvious that Scott Steiner has not forgiven or forgotten about his rib injury at the hands of the Champs, and really puts a beating on Eaton and Martel. Just when he is about to put Eaton away, Booker T. tags himself in, starting a staredown and allowing Eaton to tag his partner in. Martel really takes it to Booker T., who somehow manages to fall into the Steiners corner and get tagged by Rick Steiner who comes in with Steinerlines for everyone, and going to town on Martel. Top Rope bulldog connects!!! Eaton comes to make the save, but is taken out by Scotty Steiner, one………….two…………..three




RICK MARTEL AND BEAUTIFUL BOBBY HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED




Rick Steiner has no time to celebrate as he is attacked from behind by both Stevie Ray and Booker T.! Martel has joined Eaton on the floor and the former tag team champions are really going to town on Scotty on the floor! Side Russian Leg Sweep to Scotty on the floor. The Steiners are being decimated!

Harlem Heat is showing why many consider them the best tag team in the world, as they cohesively work together taking Rick apart. Constant tags, double teaming on the exchanges, keeping Rick Steiner in their half of the ring. Scotty is struggling at ringside, using the ring apron to try and pull himself up into his corner, to be there for his brother. Harlem sidekick from Booker T. followed by the Scissors kick has busted Rick’s earguards! Booker tags in his big brother Stevie who has a most bitter rivalry going with Rick, and Stevie delivers soupbone right and lefts on an already staggered Steiner, but Rick is shaking them off! The fans are getting behind him and Rick starts fighting back. Stevie sends him into the ropes, double clothesline and both men are down! Rick and Stevie are crawling to their corners. Scotty has finally reached the apron, is draped over the top turnbuckle holding the back of his head, but he is asking for the tag!

Rick Steiner and Stevie Ray make the tag at the same time, here comes Booker T., but Scotty doesn’t look right, he swings wildly, and faceplants on the mat! He rolls over holding the back of his head, Booker doesn’t know what to make of it, Sherri finally gets his attention, and there he goes to the top rope! Harlem Hangover! 1,2,3!!!

Sting defeated Roddy Piper with the Scorpion Death Lock to become the new champion!! This was a wild brawl that went all around the ringside area. WCW Vice President Magnum TA was at ringside watching the contest, and after careful deliberation with the referee decided to allow this contest as much wiggle room as possible, that there must be a winner. Piper was the first to seize that opportunity and began whipping, and choking Sting with tv cables, and to hit Sting with anything that was not nailed down. But the “pawn” fought back like a King, dished out punishment, and debuted the Scorpion Death Drop, but it was old faithful, the Scorpion Death Lock that brought the Stinger the satisfaction of making Piper give up!




After the contest Lex Luger, for the first time in months acknowledged his best friend, and celebrated with the Stinger.

WCW Champion Curt Hennig defeated IWGP Champion The Great Muta by pinfall with a perfect Fisherman’s Buster cradle suplex. This was a classic hard hitting wrestling match that saw each man give the other his best shot. Hennig was able to block not one, but two attempted misting’s from Muta. Hennig was able to overcome a vicious attack from Muta, concentrating on the stitches and reopening Hennig’s wound from Nitro. Curt was bleeding like a stuck pig, but fought through it like the warrior that he is.
Muta fired Hennig into the guardrail, and attempted his dreaded hand spring elbow, but the Champ was able to avoid it, Muta hit the rail and flew into the first row! Curt then SUPLEXED Muta over the guardrail to the floor. Back in the ring more wrestling, holds, and counters, saw Muta hit the hand-spring elbow, power drive elbows, and multiple versions of the back and neck breaker, but it is the Moonsault that is his most feared weapon, and luckily Hennig was able to get both knees up in defense, hook Muta’s head, Fisherman’s Buster Suplex, with a cradle, 1,2,3!!!

Nitro 12/24/1995 was a Year in Review featuring the best matches, and biggest happenings on the hottest action from Monday Nitro! It also featured analysis from Mauro Ranallo and Terry Taylor regarding Starrcade 95 and taped interviews with the winners and losers.

Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig appeared via satellite from Robbinsdale, MN and talked with Ranallo and Taylor who were in the Studio. Hennig said that he fought his toughest opponent, and climbed the tallest mountain of his entire career last night at Starrcade against the Great Muta. Curt says he knew that Keiji was one of the top handfuls of grapplers in all of professional wrestling, and that he was ready for that. Curt says that he really impressed HIMSELF being able to “turn the switch” right along with Keiji going from Mutoh to Muta. Flipping the switch from wrestling match to survival of the fittest, by any means neccissary as quickly as he had to do is one of the most difficult things he’s faced during his reign. He will be enjoying his few days off, and looks forward to seeing where his “journey to immortality” carries him next. What he is doing right now is what will be his legacy, and he will not rest until that legacy is “absolutely perfect.”

3. The “Long-Island Loud Mouth” Chris Jericho defeated Uno Technico in a stellar contest that saw Jericho display his aerial prowess, keeping up with, and out-dueling the Luchadore. The absolutely brutal “Liontamer” high-angled, modified boston crab once again got Jericho “to da pay windah.”

4. Hugh Morrus w/Kevin Sullivan defeated Kendal Windahm w/Chris Youngblood by pinfall.

5. In his WCW return Lex Luger w/Miss Elizabeth and US Heavyweight Champion Sting defeated Rick Martel w/Col. Rob Parker and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton by submission in the Main Event.



Following his opening match victory Ricky Steamboat joined Bob Caudle for an interview and discussed the past couple of months and his feud with Big Bubba Rogers and how bad it bothers Ricky that Bubba think he was somehow disrespected or slighted by the Dragon. Steamboat was just saying how much he has always respected Big Bubba’s abilities when the man himself joins the party.

Bubba says that Steamboat had a good plan at Starrcade, he took his “ass-whoopin’” and wouldn’t go quietly into the night. He let Bubba work himself tired, and then caught him by surprise, and that doesn’t sit well with Rogers. And the next time Bubba and Steamboat are in the same ring, “I will put an ass-whoopin’ on ya that you can’t keep gettin’ up from!” AND BUBBA JABBED HIS NIGHTSTICK INTO RICKY’S THROAT!!!!!



Wrestling journalist Mauro Ranallo did a brilliant piece on “The Lion Heart” Chris Jericho and his amazing first few years in professional wrestling. He has wrestled in the biggest events on planet earth, and in front of the biggest crowds. Jericho has held championship gold in every promotion he has been to, the piece even touched on Jericho’s much ballywhoed “Inter-Promotional” title reign that had the wrestling world talking in 1995. Chris discuss how the 90s have brought about revolution all over the world, from music, to entertainment, to presidents and world leaders, the 90s is a generation of change, and “Chris Jericho is the leader of that generation! Dazzling athletes who can compete at the highest levels while entertaining like nobody ever has before! YOU ARE WELCOME!” Jericho even goes on to name his modified Boston Crab “the Lion Tamer” and his running, springboard moonsault the “Lionsault.”



Diamond Dallas Page cut Kevin Sullivan off at the pass after Hugh Morrus’ match, and finally had his hands on Sullivan in an even fight, but WCW Security broke up the fight. President JJ Dillon was not pleased, and told Bob Caudle that he, Magnum, and the championship committee will have big news regarding the Clash of Champions coming up in a couple of weeks, and that something HAD to be done about the Steamboat/Bubba and DDP/Sullivan situations, someone was going to get seriously injured before all is said and done.



Unified WCW World Tag Team Champions Booker T., and Stevie Ray with their manager Sister Sherri were interviewed by Mauro Ranallo and say that it is very sweet to be back on wrestling’s mountain top. Booker T. incessantly feels the need to point out how “big a sucka” Ranallo is, especially when Ranallo asks about their opinions on future title bouts. Sherri says that Harlem Heat has proved to be the very best tag team in the world and is well on their way to being the greatest tag team of all time. They have beaten the Steiners every time they’ve been put up against them. They’ve beaten Eaton and Martel, and they will beat any “beer bellied share croppers” that WCW puts in the ring with them according to Stevie Ray, much to the amusement of Booker T. who says he absolutely CAN dig THAT, “suckaaaaa.”



Bob Caudle interviewed the returning to action Lex Luger, his manager the lovely Miss Elizabeth, and his on again best-y, the United States Champion Sting. Lex discusses how jealous he is of Sting, he is jealous that Sting was able to get his hands on that no good “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Which Sting gets a big laugh out of and says that is was great to put his “hands around his snakely throat!” Sting goes on to say once again how sorry he is for not trusting Lex. Sting says he is sure the world is tired of hearing him apologize so he will let this be the last time, “Lex, pal I should have trusted you more when it came to Hot Rod, and I will not make that mistake again!”

Lex says he appreciates Sting’s words, but he does have one request, and feels like Sting “does kinda owe him one,” Lex says that if Sting does trust him, then trust Lex when he says that he believes their friendship can withstand any wrestling match. And with that in mind, Lex says, “I would like to challenge you one on one for the United States Championship that was stolen from me!” Sting says, “that win, lose, or draw I believe our friendship could withstand a fist fight or two, and tell ya the truth, Package, you deserve the first crack at this title!” Lex and Sting shake hands.



Roddy Piper took Terry Taylor’s place in the booth during the Luger vs. Martel main event, and had plenty to say about Sting and their match at Starrcade. Piper also refused to discuss Lex Luger or a possible match against the Total Package in the future, all Piper would say is, “I’ve already beaten Lexy, and I’ve moved on.” Piper did also promise that “Lexy will not get a title shot before me!” as Nitro went off the air!

WCW Vice President Magnum T.A. and President JJ Dillon had major announcements about this Friday’s Clash of the Champions. First Magnum announced that this Clash would feature Japanese talent, and that WCW has retained its working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling in the hopes of bringing some of the best talent in the world to the best fans in the World, and that is just what they will be doing this Friday night in the Omni.

Three Japanese wrestling legends will be appearing at the Clash, all of these men have American wrestling experience, and will be familiar to any WCW fan. First is JUSHIN “THUNDER” LYGER!! Mauro Ranallo talks over a few of Lyger’s highlights. Magnum goes on to say that many hardcore wrestling fans, and fans of Mauro’s work will know that in 1995 one of the very best wrestling matches to occur was Lyger against this newly signed WCW talent, “Lionheart” Chris Jericho! Magnum says that Promoters all over the entire world have been trying to book this rematch, but fans will only see it in WCW, and “we are all excited about that one!”

Also appearing will be the team of former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and WCW World Championship Contender Tatsumi “The Dragon” Fujinami teams with former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion, 1984 Olympic Judo medalist, Hiroshi Hase. And as some longtime fans will know, Hiroshi Hase and various partners have had an outstanding rivalry with the Steiner Brothers, and this rivalry has seen various partners cycle through, and has seen some of the best tag team wrestling matches of the last quarter century. Well Hase feels that he has the partner that will gain him that coveted victory of the Steiner’s and Rick and Scott have accepted that challenge! And the winners of that International Dream Tag Team Match-Up will get a shot at Harlem Heat’s Unified World Tag Team Titles!

JJ Dillon thanks Magnum for those big announcements, and says that this Clash of Champions has a fitting name to it, and it will not be the first wrestling event titled “The Last Battle of Atlanta,” but it certainly might be the most appropriate. The WCW board that Magnum and JJ sit on has decided that something has to be done about two ongoing, bitter disputes in World Championship Wrestling. And after careful consideration, and numerous discussions with various colleagues, “we have decided that Ricky Steamboat will defend the World TV Title against Big Bubba Rogers one final time, and Diamond Dallas Page will face Kevin Sullivan one final time, BOTH MATCHES WILL BE HELD INSIDE A STEEL CAGE!” JJ goes on to say that these matches will be one fall to a finish, can only end by pinfall, submission, or referee’s stoppage, steel cages are designed to settle grudges, and by golly that is what we will do this Friday Night!



Col. Robert Parker and his “Stud Stable,” “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and Rick Martel joined Bob Caudle. Col. Parker says that he has been highly disappointed with the recent performances of Ricky Martel, who was pinned at Starrcade, and was also defeated last week by Lex Luger, and that losing is unacceptable in the Stud Stable, but Ricky has a chance to redeem himself as next week on Nitro after the Clash, Eaton and Martel get their return match against Harlem Heat for the Unified Tag Team Championships of the World, and that Martel better not let him down!



Scott Norton was interviewed briefly by Mauro Ranallo and says that we all got a good taste of what “Flash” Norton is all about when he sent Johnny B. Badd packing at Starrcade. And that as a former US Champion, “DOMINANT U.S. Champion at that!,” Norton feels disrespected by not having more “victims lined up.” No match tonight, no match at the Clash, WCW officials “had better tighten up, they won’t like the things I do when I have to entertain myself!”
