WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING presents:
New York City, NY The Felt Forum March 5, 1995 Announcers: Tony Schiavone & Mike Tenay Ring Announcer: Dave Penzer Interviewer: Todd Petingill Referees: Scott Dickinson, Charles Robinson & Mickey Jay *Tony Schiavone and “The Professor” Mike Tenay welcome us to this edition of WCW Monday Nitro, coming to you live from New York City at Madison Square Garden’s Felt Forum. Tony reveals that the very existence of World Championship Wrestling is in doubt as head into WCW SuperBrawl, when Sting, Ric Flair and Chris Benoit will take on “The Outsiders” Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and their mystery partner. Tenay says rumors have been swirling all week about a corporate crisis within WCW, but very little concrete information is known. Schiavone promises fans that WCW President James J. Dillon will be here in a few minutes to speak to these rumors. We also have an action-packed show as WCW World Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys defend their belts against Rough N’ Ready. The winners of that match will face The Road Warriors at WCW SuperBrawl, while the losers will take part in a Triple Threat #1 Contenders match against The Faces of Fear and The Samoan Gangster Party. Mortis will also defend the WCW US Heavywieght Title against Scott “Flash” Norton, who is returning for a tour of Japan and Europe where he went undefeated. Rey Mysterio Jr. will also be in action against La Parka and Sting will step into the ring against the 500lb One Man Gang. Mike Tenay talks about first match which will pit Super Calo against the youngest member of the Guerrero family. Hector Guerrero promised he’d be bringing a family here to WCW and he has – the promising young star Chavo Guerrero Jr. Tony and Mike send it up to ring announce David Penzer to announce the first match… 1) Chavo Guerrero Jr. (w/ Hector Guerrero) vs. Super Calo: The youngest of the Guerrero plan impresses here against the aerial specialist Super Calo. Calo dominates early on and scores several near falls, especially a close two count after a flying leg drop off the top rope. Hector cheers on his nephew from the outside and Chavo rebounds with a flying leg-whip, which catches Calo flush on the jaw. Guerrero pulls Super Calo to his feet and lays him out with the three rolling vertical suplexes and then connects with the frog splash off the top rope. Chavo finishes Super Calo off with the Gory Bomb and scores the win in his WCW debut. WINNER: CHAVO GUERRERO JR. *WCW President J.J. Dillon joins Todd Petingill after the match. Todd tells the fans that rumors have been running rampant about the state of WCW, in the wake of this Outsider crisis. Dillon confirms this and says that things are very much up in the air right now for World Championship Wrestling. J.J. announces that the stockholders are not happy with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall interfering in WCW shows and basically hijacking the WCW airwaves. The WCW stockholders have called an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon and the results of that meeting will be announced here on WCW Monday Nitro next week. Dillon says he is very nervous about this whole situation and he says a lot depends on Team WCW defeating The Outsiders this Sunday at WCW SuperBrawl live on TBS. J.J. Dillon sends a message to Ric Flair, Sting and Chris Benoit by telling them that World Championship Wrestling’s future is very much in their hands this weekend. Dillon looks extremely nervous and upset as he excuses himself from the interview and goes back to the dressing room to take a call from a WCW executive. Todd Petingill then sends us to commercial… **commercial break** *Todd Petingill is standing by in the aisle with Lance Storm and Kenta Kobashi, who will face Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman at WCW SuperBrawl. Lance says he and Kenta have been preparing hard for this match because he knows both Rey and Kidman are an incredible team. The interview is interrupted at this point by Tiger Ali Singh and Kurasawa! Singh says he has been trying to talk sense to Kenta Kobashi for weeks – Kenta is teaming with the wrong man. Tiger says Kenta hasn’t listened to him so he reached out to a man he knows Kobashi will listen to. Tiger Ali Singh introduces the former All-Japan Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion and Kobashi’s ex-tag team partner Mitsuharu Misawa. Misawa makes his way out wearing a suit and tie and he gets right in Kobashi’s face! Misawa is lecturing Kobashi in Japanese and points to Lance Storm several times, clearly making disparaging comments towards Storm! The stone-faced Kobashi eventually hears enough and walks off, with a confused Lance Storm following him to figure out just happened. Todd asks Tiger to translate what was said. Singh says Misawa told Kobashi that he had lost track of he should never trust a “gaijin” like Storm. Singh closes by telling Petingill that hopefully Misawa’s presence has shown Kenta Kobashi that his priorities are out of whack…. 2) Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ Billy Kidman) vs. La Parka: Mysterio faces an old enemy from Mexico here, with these two getting about seven minutes to show their stuff. Kidman tries to rally the crowd and once again defies Mysterio’s requests to stay out of the match. Billy tries to trip La Parka, but Parka sees it coming and levels Kidman with a sliding dropkick instead! Mysterio charges, but Parka plants him with a tilt-a-whirl back-breaker. Parka goes up top, but Mysterio is up and he connects with a hurricanrana off the top rope. Rey makes the cover and he gets the three count for the big win. Billy Kidman hits the ring after the match and lays into La Parka with some stomps, but a frustrated Mysterio pulls him away. WINNER: REY MYSTERIO JR. *The Taskmaster is standing by backstage with Todd Petingill. Kevin Sullivan says we are minutes away from Mortis sending Scott Norton back to his beloved Japan in a body bag and a few days away from The Giant stamping Brian Pillman into dust. Sullivan says The Giant cannot be stopped – he is on a march to the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Brian Pillman is merely a speed bump in the middle of the road that The Giant will shatter into pieces. All of a sudden, the WCW plastic wall set collapses downward onto Sullivan! The camera pops up to reveal Brian Pillman with a big grin on his face! Pillman tipped over that set onto Kevin Sullivan! It was a light-weight set so Sullivan wasn’t hurt, but that changes when Pillman begins pounding away on him! Flyin’ Brian is wailing away on The Taskmaster, but here comes The Giant! Brian Pillman races away shouting that The Giant will get his at WCW SuperBrawl. The furious Giant helps Kevin Sullivan up and then snatches the microphone. The Giant screams into the microphone that Brian Pillman is going to get choke-slammed to hell on Sunday! The big man stares menacingly into the camera as we go to commercial… **commercial break** *Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay come back and announce that WCW has been sent a tape by The Outsiders, which were are going to see now. We go to Scott Hall manning a video camera and filming as he and Kevin Nash enter the arena last week. Nash turns around and jokes, “Boy – an open door! I wonder who let that happen?” Then we hear Hall’s snarky comments as Kevin Nash jumps Alex Wright from behind and throws him into the wall. Nash then lifts Wright into the air and power-bombs him on to a table! Security arrive and Nash knocks them all down, with Hall joking, “There goes some of WCW’s finest!” Scott Hall then turns the camera and says, “By the time you see this, you know what happens next. WCW – the new world order begins at WCW SuperBrawl!” The tape then ends as we go back to a disgusted Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay. Tony is sickened by what he just saw and says he hopes Team WCW destroy these Outsiders at WCW SuperBrawl. Mike Tenay announces that the injured Alex Wright will be here later on to discuss his current condition… 3) Sgt. Craig “Pitbull” Pittman vs. Steve “Mongo” McMichael: A battle of the bulls here as Mongo takes on the Pittbull. Pittman is all over McMichael’s right arm early to set up for the Code Red, but Mongo is able to knock him out to the floor with a big shoulder-block. The Pitbull reenters the ring and connects with a shoulder-block, but Mongo once again gets away when Pittman goes for the Code Red. A frustrated Pittman tries blind-side McMichael with a clubbing forearm strike, but Mongo sees him coming and kicks him in the gut. McMichael then hoists Craig Pittman up and drives him into the canvas with the tombstone pile-driver. Mongo makes the cover and hooks both legs to score the big three count over the formerly undefeated Craig Pittman. WINNER: STEVE “MONGO” MCMICHAEL *Team WCW (Sting, Chris Benoit & WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair) are standing with Todd Petingill. Sting says he was disgusted by that video that The Outsiders sent in, but it’s got him even more fired up for a fight on Sunday. Stinger tells Kevin Nash and Scott Hall that they have been real successful so far in tearing down the foundations of WCW, but now they are up against a united front. Chris Benoit adds that he’s going to take a lot of pride in ripping Hall, Nash and whoever their third man is limb from limb. Ric Flair is positively gleeful when he says that Sunday will be the turning point for WCW and it will be the turning point for him personally. Flair talks about his legacy as the greatest WCW World Heavyweight Champion of all-time and everyone better know that he is coming into this match prepared. Flair says that on Sunday, Benoit, Stinger and himself will take care of these Outsiders like they were yesterday’s garbage. Todd asks Team WCW their thoughts about the stockholder crisis, but Flair just smiles and says everything will be fine after Sunday. Flair guarantees a victory for Team WCW and then gives us a “WOOOOOOOO”, before Petingill sends us to a commercial break… **commercial break** *Alex Wright – wearing a neck brace - joins Todd Petingill to discuss being attacked by The Outsiders last week. Wright talks about growing up watching his father Steve Wright work his whole career just to earn a match with the World Heavyweight Champion. Alex was lucky enough to earn his shot and he treasured the chance to prove he’s the best in the world. That was taken away from him by a group of cowards, who back-jumped him in order to make a name for themselves. Alex says WCW is where the big boy’s play and while Scott Hall and Kevin Nash may be tall, they are puny cowards on the inside. Alex Wright says he will be rooting for Team WCW will all his heart at WCW SuperBrawl. Das Wunderkind would just like to ask Team WCW to leave The Outsiders just well enough so he can get a few of his own shots in on Hall and Nash. Petingill asks Wright is he’s going to have his World Title Match rescheduled. Alex says he’s hoping that will be the case, but WCW is in crisis mode right now and he cannot get any solid answers from the top brass. Wright once again wishes Team WCW good luck and says he will be their biggest supporter at WCW SuperBraw. As Wright walk off, Marcus Alexander Bagwell makes us way out and laughs at Wright's neck brace. Alex Wright tries to walk past him, but Bagwell shoves him to the ground! The fans boo as Bagwell calls Wright a "cripple" and says he should be getting TV time instead of this "kraut sissy". Alex Wright is right back up and in Bagwell's face, but Doug Dillinger and WCW security arrive to break them up… 4) WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Mortis (w/ The Taskmaster) vs. Scott “Flash” Norton: Norton returns from his undefeated tour of Japan and Europe over the last several months and he looks to be on top form. Mortis manages to get the better of him early by hitting and running, eventually scoring with a moon-sault off the second rope. Mortis makes the cover, but Norton powers out and then levels the masked man with a huge lariat coming off the ropes. Mortis tries to pull himself up, but he gets avalanched into the corner! Norton power-slams him into the center of the ring and makes the cover, but Mortis is able to kick out. The WCW US Champion is in trouble here as he struggles to get to his feet. Norton goes for a clothesline, but Mortis moves and Flash tumbles over the top rope to the apron. Mortis right there to drive Norton’s throat down on to the top rope and then pull him back into the ring for an implant DDT. Mortis makes the cover and this should be academic, but Scott Norton powers out again! Mortis and The Taskmaster are both shocked here as Norton gets up and charges, only to be met with a super kick. Mortis sends Norton into the corner and connects with a flying knee strike. Mortis goes to bulldog Norton out of the corner, but Scott Norton powers out and hurls Mortis half way across the ring! Mortis stumbles up only to get a belly-to-belly suplex from Flash! Norton pulls Mortis up, lifts him above his head into power-bomb position and then drives Mortis down shoulder-first into his right knee! Tenay informs viewers that the move is called the Flashbreaker and nobody has ever kicked out of it. The trend continues as Scott Norton makes the cover and scores the three count! Norton has won the WCW US Title in his first match back in WCW. The Taskmaster is shocked out on the floor as the belt is handed to Norton, who snatches it away and leaves the ring! Todd Petingill tries to stop him for an interview, but Norton just blows right by him. WINNER: WCW UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION SCOTT NORTON *Rough N’ Ready (Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck) are standing by with Todd Petingill. Dick Slater say tonight is the night when he and Bucksnort Buck prove they are the true NASTY BOYS here in WCW when they win those tag team titles. Slater talks about his reputation. He’s been the GWF World Champion, the IWA World Champion and ½ of the NWA US Tag Team Champions. Those WCW World Tag Team Titles are calling his name – and “ain’t nobody” is going to stand his way. Todd talks about the #1 Contenders Triple Threat match at WCW SuperBrawl, which Slater and Buck would be in if they lose tonight. Dick Slater says there’s no way he and Buck are losing. They’ll beat The Nasty Boys tonight, then beat the Road Warriors at WCW SuperBrawl and they just might show in that #1 Contenders Match to so they can kick the butts of the Faces of Fear and the Samoan Gangster Party too! Todd asks Bunkhouse Buck for a comment, but Buck just glares at him and spits chewing tobacco on Petingill’s shoe before walking off with Dick Slater… **commercial break** *VTR: We see clips of WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Super Delfin in action against the very best here in World Championship Wrestling. Back in the ring, Mike Tenay once again hypes the Super J Cup tournament, which WCW is presenting along with New Japan Pro Wrestling later this month. Tenay can now announce that Delfin, Chris Benoit, Brian Pillman, Lance Storm, and Rey Mysterio Jr. will all be representing WCW on March 21 in Sumo Hall. Mike promises that next week he will have more details on the international talent signed for this incredible event. Tony Schiavone then jokes that one man who certainly will not be in that tournament is the 500lb One Man Gang, who is currently in the ring. One Man Gang gets on the microphone and shouts that he’s going to squash Sting tonight and then he’ll take Stinger’s place on Team WCW. One Man Gang throws down the microphone and then motions for Sting to come face him just as the Stinger’s theme music plays… 5) Sting vs. One Man Gang: This match could be a main event anywhere in the world, but it’s going on as the semi-main on this action-packed WCW Monday Nitro. One Man Gang ambushes Sting as he enters the ring, but Stinger fights him off with a series of right hands. Stinger shoot the Gang off the ropes and connects with a dropkick off that knocks One Man Gang back into the corner. Stinger climbs the turnbuckles and delivers ten big punches to the forehead and then scoop slams Gang when the big man wobbles out to the center of the ring. Stinger then goes up top and connect with the flying splash, before applying the Scorpion Death Lock. Sting has the hold cinched on and Gang has no choice but to submit, giving the Stinger a dominating win going into WCW SuperBrawl. Tony: “I think Sting just sent the One Man Gang out of WCW just as soon as the big man arrived and hopefully he’ll do the same with The Outsiders!” WINNER: STING *Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. join Todd Petingill back in the dressing room for an interview. Todd asks how they are preparing for Kobashi and Storm, but Kidman says they are preparing for a tough match but clearly it’ll be an easier win that they though since Kobashi and Storm can’t seem to get along. Rey Mysterio Jr. disagrees with his partner and says he thinks Kobashi and Storm are on the same page and that makes them very dangerous. Todd then asks about the Super J Cup, but Kidman butts in and says “no disrespect to Rey” but he’s a little shocked not to have been invited. Kidman says he can beat any of the guys WCW is sending, which causes a little friction when Rey asks if Billy thinks he can beat him? Kidman tries to smooth things over and says that’s not what he meant – he knows Rey is going to win the whole tournament. Rey then tells Todd that he’s going to look forward to facing the very best cruiserweights in the world at the Super J Cup, but right now he is focused on Lance Storm and Kenta Kobashi at WCW SuperBrawl on Sunday. Todd Pentigill thanks them and sends us to break as Mysterio and Kidman bicker in the background… **commercial break** *The former WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Mortis is standing by backstage with Todd Petingill. Mortis is furious about his title loss and he insists that it was just a fluke. Petingill says it looked like Scott Norton just got the better of him tonight, but Mortis says that’s not the case at all. Mortis runs off in a huff, but Avalanche arrives on the scene for an interview. Avalanche says he is so excited for WCW SuperBrawl on Sunday. He has always said if he wasn’t a wrestler, he’d like to have been an exterminator because he loves inflicted pain on lesser beings. Avalanche says he gets the best of worlds on Sunday when he gets to squash “the puny Ice Train” like a bug and end his professional wrestling career. The big man laughs as he promises that WCW SuperBrawl won’t just be the worst night of Ice Train’s wrestling career, it’ll be the last time he ever WALKS again! An intimidated Todd Pettingill throws us back up to the ring four our main event… 6) WCW World Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) vs. Rough N’ Ready (Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck): Remember fans, the winners of this one face the Legion of Doom for the WCW World Tag Team Titles in a Street Fight at WCW SuperBrawl, while the losers must take on the Faces of Fear and the Samoan Gangster Party in a Triple Threat #1 Contenders Match. This one is an all-out brawl, with referee Charles Robinson having a difficult time keeping control of the action. The Nasty Boys appear to have momentum in the hand late in the match by keeping Buck isolated on their side of the ring. Knobbs signals for The Pitt Stop, but hold the phones! The Legion of Doom charge the ring and begin brawling with The Nasty Boys! Hawk and Animal have interrupted this match to get a piece of the Nasty Boys prior to WCW SuperBrawl! WINNERS: WCW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE NASTY BOYS VIA DISQUALIFICATION *The Nasty Boys and the Legion of Doom are going at it in the ring! Rough N’ Ready don’t like their title opportunity being ruined though and now they are hammering away on both teams! The action gets hotter as The Samoan Gangster Party hit the ring and begin brawling with everybody, which brings out the Faces of Fear to join the party! There’s a total war going on as all these wrestlers are brawling in the ring, around the ring and up the aisle. In the midst of this chaos, the camera pans to the crowd where Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are making their presence felt! Hall and Nash are looking down at the chaos and chuckling – that is until Team WCW run down the aisle! Sting and Chris Benoit hop the guard rail and go chasing after Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, who are a long way up the aisle. The Outsiders leave, with Sting and Benoit giving chase as Ric Flair cheers them on from ringside. The brawl is still going on in the ring as the massive Mack Daddy Kane climbs up to the top rope and comes flying off with a Superfly Splash on Dick Slater! The ring visibly shakes as Mack Daddy Kane connects with the splash and then begins brawling with Road Warrior Animal… *Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay wrap up this week’s show and give a final plug for WCW SuperBrawl coming up on March 11, live on pay-per-view from Birmingham, England. They can hardly keep up will all the fighting going on in the area. Tony Schiavone: “Chaos reigns supreme here on WCW Monday Nitro. Can the WCW stockholders reign things in? Only time will tell but it looks like law and order have gone by the wayside!” This edition of WCW Monday Nitro fades out as we pan to a cameraman following Sting and Chris Benoit as they give chase to The Outsider. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash jump into a limousine waiting in the front of the arena and speed off just as Sting and Chris Benoit were about to keep up with them… (c) WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Tonight’s spectacular will be brought to you live on Superstation TBS with very limited commercial interruptions. Tony talks about the uncertainty in the air and the recent talk about a stockholder crisis here in WCW. Schiavone announces that regardless of the result of tonight’s war between WCW and the Outsiders, there will be a major announcement made on WCW Monday Nitro tomorrow night that will apparently shock the professional wrestling world. Tony, Mike and Dusty are all uneasy about the state of WCW right now, but hopefully they will give some answers later tonight and of course tomorrow on WCW Monday Nitro. Tenay and Schiavone then run down tonight’s huge card, which will feature title matches and the big one as Team WCW battle The Outsiders. Tony sends us up to the ring for our first match of the evening… 1) Lance Storm & Kenta Kobashi vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman: We’ve seen trouble between Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman in recent weeks, while Kenta Kobashi and Lance Storm have remained united even though Kurasawa and now Misawa have constantly interfered in their business. These four men put on a heck of an opening contest, with Kobashi even busting out the moon-sault for a near fall on Billy Kidman. The finish sees Mitsuhara Misawa, Kurasawa and their manager Tiger Ali Singh make their way down the aisle to once again confront Kobashi. Kenta Kobashi is standing on the apron, but he’s looking down at them and telling them to go away. In the ring, Lance Storm charges at Billy Kidman with a clothesline, but Kidman sees what is going on the outside and he dives out of the way. This causes Storm to accidentally clothesline Kobashi, which knocks his partner off the apron. In the ring, Kidman tags Mysterio, who comes in and works over Storm. Mysterio comes off the top rope with a big splash and covers, but Storm kicks out. Lance tries to roll away, but on the outside Misawa is helping Kobashi up and he’s lecturing him in Japanese. It’s clear through his hand signals that he is accusing Lance Storm of purposefully hitting Kenta. Kobashi is holding his neck in pain and now he glances back in the ring at Lance Storm, who is begging for the tag. Kobashi looks at Storm – and he refuses to get back on the apron for the tag! Mysterio isn’t pleased with this, but Kidman slaps him on the back and tags himself in. Mysterio and Kidman squabble a little, but Billy moves past Rey, grabs Lance from behind and lays him out with a reverse vertical suplex! Kidman makes the cover on Storm on and gets the three count! WINNERS: REY MYSTERIO JR. & BILLY KIDMAN *Billy Kidman celebrates after the match, but Rey Mysterio Jr. doesn’t look at all pleased at how his team won. The two young stars are talking it out as they make their way back to the dressing room. Now, Kurasawa is pointing to Lance Storm and he rolls into the ring. Kurasawa and Misawa begin stomping on Storm as Tiger Ali Singh urges Kenta Kobashi to do so as well. Kobashi watches for a few seconds, before rolling in the ring and shoving Kurasawa and Misawa away! Thankfully cooler heads have prevailed here as Kobashi helps Lance Storm to his feet and… AND… AND:
BURNING HAMMER!!!!!!!
*Kenta Kobashi has just destroyed his tag team partner Lance Storm with the most dangerous move in wrestling – the Burning Hammer! Kobashi then joins Kurasawa and Misawa in stomping the holy hell out of poor Lance Storm. Tiger Ali Singh then enters the ring and the arms of both Kobashi and Misawa as the crowd boos. The reunited Misawa and Kobashi leave the ring as medics arrive to load Lance Storm onto a stretcher. There’s silence in the crowd as Lance Storm is put on a stretcher and then rushed backstage to an ambulance… 2) WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Super Delfin vs. Octagon: Two masked men clash here as Octagon, ½ of the Mexican Tag Team Champions with El Hijo Del Santo, challenges for the WCW World Cruiserweight Title. Delfin and Octagon trade the momentum throughout the match and put a hell of a show for the short amount of time they were given. Octagon scores a near fall with the Quebradora con Giro, but Delfin is able to kick out of the pin. Octagon goes up top for the flying leg drop, but Delfin moves out of the way just in time. Both men are slow to their feet, but Delfin sees his chances. He hits the ropes, leaps into the air and grabs Octagon by the neck… OSAKA STREET CUTTER! Super Delfin makes the cover and hooks both legs for the 1-2-3! What a match… and what a win by Super Delfin going into the Super J Cup! WINNER: WCW WORLD CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION SUPER DELFIN *Todd Petingill is standing by with the brand new WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Scott “Flash” Norton. Todd reminds fans that Norton dominated the competition in the past and he is now back after a tour of the globe. Todd runs down Norton’s resume, which includes numerous strongman competition wins and has run as ½ of the prestigious IWGP Tag Team Champions in Japan. This past Monday night, Norton shocked the world when he won the WCW US Heavyweight Title in his first first match back on US soil. Norton tells Petingill that he is not going to stand here and talk for ten minutes like everyone else here in WCW. Scott isn’t here to talk – he’s here to fight and he proved that on Monday. Norton says the only impression he needs to make is what he can do in the ring and nobody can stop him when the bell rings. Scott says he doesn’t want an interview on the next WCW super-show, he wants a match! And he’ll get a match or there are going to be major problems for the brass here in WCW… COMMERCIAL BREAK *Team WCW – Sting, Chris Benoit and WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair – are standing by with Todd Petingill. Todd asks if they are worried about the mystery partner. Sting is his loud way insists that Hall and Nash can bring whoever they like to the ring tonight – it won’t matter! The Nature Boy, The Crippler and The Sting are all on the same page and they are ready to kick some serious Outsider butt. Ric Flair then takes the microphone and says that all of WCW’s prayers have been answered. The problems have been solved! Flair says professional wrestling has always been an insider’s game, not an outsider’s game! And Ric Flair is the ultimate insider! Flair says he can look Todd Petingill in the eye right now and guarantee victory tonight for Team WCW. Flair says everything’s under control and tonight launches the beginning of a new era here in WCW. Benoit and Sting don’t seem to follow Flair’s remarks, but we have to get back to the ring so Todd wraps up the segment… 3) Three-Way Dance: Rough N’ Ready (Bunkhouse Buck & Dick Slater) vs. The Faces of Fear (Meng & The Barbarian) vs. The Samoan Gangster Party (w/ The Taskmaster): This one is never under control as all six men brawl around the ringside area. Sullivan tries to get involved at one point, but catches a huge side-kick from Barbarian. The finish sees Sammy The Silk and Buck brawling up the aisle with Barbarian and Mack Daddy Kane. In the ring, Dick Slater slams Meng and then comes off the ropes with a diving first drop! As goes to leap, Meng sits up and he locks in the Tongan Death Grip! Dick Slater is caught, but look who’s coming down the aisle! It’s Colonel Robert Parker and he has a wooden chair? What is Col. Parker doing back here in WCW? Meng has the Death Grip locked on Slater, but Parker enters the ring from behind him and breaks the chair over Meng’s head! Meng releases the hold – but now he spins around and charges towards Colonel Parker! The colonel is to be out of WCW just as quickly as he returned! Meng collars Col. Parker, but from behind Slater has one of the legs of that broken chair and he breaks it across the back of Meng’s neck! Meng doubles over in pain, allowing Colonel Parker to hop out to the floor. Dick Slater now connects with a running knee lift on Meng and makes the cover to get the 1-2-3! Dick Slater and Bunkhouse Buck are the #1 contenders thanks to the returning Colonel Robert Parker! Col. Parker celebrates with Slater on the arena floor as they hurry away from ringside. WINNERS: ROUGH N’ READY 4) Avalanche vs. Ice Train: This one is an all-out brawl from start to finish, with Ice Train looking for some revenge. He makes a huge mistake when he tries to slam Avalanche while still nursing those injured ribs. Avalanche collapses on top of Train and stays on top for the cover, but Train is able to kick out. He’s in serious pain though, which only gets worse when Avalanche comes off the ropes with a big elbow drop across the ribs. Avalanche is right back up with a big splash on Train and he covers again, but again Train powers out somehow! Now Avalanche is furious and he hits the ropes and connects with the sit-out splash – and then does it again! Avalanche makes the cover and this time he gets the three count! These two are now tied with wins over each other, but once again Ice Train has been left in a broken heap. WINNER: AVALANCHE *VTR: Clips are shown of Jerry Lynn competing in GWF and PWA, including clips of his legendary matches with The 1-2-3 Kid. Mike Tenay narrates over the clips and talks about Lynn’s reputation as of the rising stars in professional wrestling. Fans, Jerry Lynn is coming to WCW… COMMERCIAL BREAK *The Taskmaster and The Giant are standing by with Todd Petingill. Todd asks if The Giant is prepare for the Loose Cannon and all his tricks. The Giant looks wild-eyed as he tells Todd that all the tricks in the world can’t save Pillman from his fate. Pillman’s destiny is to take the choke-slam and tonight Flyin’ Brian will absolutely fullfil his destiny. Kevin Sullivan then the prophesy of the daughter of the third eye has foretold that Brian Pillman will face judgment under the tree of woe. Sullivan says today is judgment day and Pillman has been sentenced to a right he will never be able to forget! Sullivan begins laughing hysterically as The Giant stares menacingly into the camera. Todd Petingill throws it up to the ring for the Birmingham Street Fight between The Nasty Boys and The Legion of Doom… 5) Birmingham Street Fight: WCW World Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys vs. The Legion of Doom (w/ Paul Ellering): These two teams beat the hell out of each by brawling all over the ringside area for about ten minutes. The finish sees Brian Knobbs miss the flying elbow off the top rope. He stumbles to his feet and gets bull-dozed by a double shoulder-block by the Road Warriors. Jerry Sags tries to bash Animal from behind with a trash can lid, but Animal turns around in time and boots the lid into Jerry’s face! Hawk then pulls Jerry Sags into position for a pile-driver. Hawk lifts Sags up into the air, while Animal flies off the second rope for a spike pile-driver on the trash can lid! Hawk makes the cover to score the 1-2-3! The Legion of Doom have regained the WCW World Tag Team Championship belts in this Street Fight! WINNERS: WCW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE LEGION OF DOOM 6) Flyin’ Brian Pillman vs. The Giant (w/ The Taskmaster): The Giant and The Taskmaster are out first – and Sullivan’s just lucky to have escaped that big three team brawl earlier. Flyin’ Brian is out next and he has that wild-eyed look in his eyes! Pillman gets in the ring and takes the microphone. Pillman: “Big man – we all know you can kick my ass! You’ve done it before! What I want tonight is for you to step aside and let your guru get his turn at me! Come on Sullivan! Send your big dog to the dressing room and let’s settle this!” Pillman then shoves Pillman – uh oh! The Giant grabs him by the throat and obliterates him with the choke-slam! The Giant on top with the cover for the 1-2-3! I think we have a new match record fans! That one was about five seconds long! Sullivan laughs hysterically as his Giant throws up the right arm. Meanwhile, Brian Pillman is once again sprawled out and unconscious on the ring mat! WINNER: THE GIANT *The Legion of Doom and their manager Paul Ellering are discussing their big win with Todd Petingill, but they are interrupted by Colonel Robert Parker and his team Rough N’ Ready (Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck)! Parker says that his men are now the rightful #1 and they want their title shot! Ellering says Parker and his men can have their fight when the LOD are good and ready, but Dick Slater doesn’t like that and he gets in Precious Paul’s face! Hawk and Animal step up to protect their manager and Hawk snatches the microphone. Hawk says the LOD don’t back down from anyone – if Slater and Buck want a fight, they can have one tomorrow night on WCW Monday Nitro! Colonel Parker is gleeful as he promises tomorrow his men will destroy the legacy of the LOD just like they destroyed the monster Meng! The LOD and Rough N’ Ready go nose-to-nose, before both of their manages pull them away… COMMERCIAL BREAK *Team WCW are out first, with Ric Flair strutting down the ring with a big grin on his face. Sting sort of hangs back, while Chris Benoit broods in the corner. The Outsiders come out next – but there’s only two of them! Hall and Nash are alone – there is no third partner! Confusion reigns here as The Outsider insist that the bell be rung, while Sting and Benoit question the referee as to what’s going on. The crowd begin buzz now because here comes the man that The Outsiders took out about six week ago – here comes Shawn Michaels! Michaels enters the ring and grabs the microphone. Shawn says he is all healed up after being attacked by his best friends and he is here for revenge! Shawn points his finger in Nash’s chest and says Kevin and Scott better be ready for a fight! Michaels squares up to Nash – and then spins around and drills Sting with a superkick! Oh no- Shawn Michaels is the third man! Michaels gloats like only he can, while Sting rolls out to the floor. Michaels is ordering the bell to be rung, but Sting is out here! There’s an unfair advantage for The Outsiders as this match begins… 7) The Outsiders (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) & Shawn Michaels vs. WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, WCW World Television Champion Chris Benoit & Sting: Ric Flair steps in the ring and puts up his dukes and begins brawling with Michaels. These two brawl all around the ring, while Sting tries to shake off the fog on the floor. Flair makes the tag to Chris Benoit, who comes in and drills Michaels with a clothesline. Benoit works over Shawn with stomps and then shoots him off the ropes. The Crippler goes for a cross-body block, but Michaels ducks out of the way and then makes the tag to Scott Hall. Hall comes in and begins stomping on Benoit and then connects with his trademark fall-away slam. Scott Hall riles up the crowd and then makes the tag to Kevin Nash. Nash comes in and shoots Benoit off the ropes for the big boot. Big Daddy Cool comes off the ropes for the big elbow drop, but Benoit moves out of the way! Benoit rolls to his corner and tags in Ric Flair, who takes a moment as he steps into the ring. Nash is up now and he walks back over to his corner and slaps Shawn’s hand! Nash tags Michaels back in. HBK wasn’t quite expecting it, but he enters the ring and trades momentum with Ric Flair for several more minutes. Flair and Benoit make quick tags to work over Shawn’s right knee. Sting is now back on the apron and he’s demanding the tag! Benoit complies and tags Stinger in. Sting is a house on fire as he demolishes Shawn with a military press slam and flying fist drop! Sting looks ready to apply the Scorpion Death Lock, but reaches out from behind and slaps Sting’s shoulder! Flair has tagged himself in! Sting and Flair share words as Ric enters the ring, only for Shawn Michaels to escape and dive into his corner! Shawn looks to make the hot tag here – but look at this! Kevin Nash and Scott Hall back away and drop off the apron! What is going on here? Nash and Hall talk a little game on the floor and then they walk off! Hall and Nash are out of here – they’ve left their Outsider buddy Shawn Michaels stranded in the ring three-on-one? What are they doing? Sting and Benoit are totally confused by what’s going on, but Flair swoops right in and applies the Figure Four Leg Lock after pulling HBK into the center of the ring! Michaels is stuck with nowhere to go, but he fights it! Shawn eventually has no choice and he taps out! Team WCW wins, but under totally bizarre circumstances! WINNERS: TEAM WCW *The bell has rung here, but Ric Flair refuses to release the Figure Four! Flair wrenches further back on it, while Sting and Benoit try to make heads or tails of what we have just seen. Shawn Michaels is screaming in agony and finally we can hear an audible snap as Flair puts incredible pressure on the hold! Sting enters the ring and finally pulls Flair off Michaels and begins questioning Ric on what has just happened. Flair has a big grin on his face as he listens to these questions, causing Sting to shove him! Chris Benoit is right there and he gets in Sting’s face! Flair laughs it all over and he pulls Chris Benoit away and they leave the ring as Shawn Michaels is carried out a stretcher by medics. Sting is all alone in the ring trying to figure out what has gone on in this chaotic scene… *Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Dusty Rhodes are in total shock about what has just happened. Tony wonders aloud about why Kevin Nash and Scott Hall walked out on Shawn Michaels and deliberately lost their match. Tenay says it’s clear that there is far more to this story than meets the eye and we could get some answers tomorrow night on WCW Monday Nitro. Dusty Rhodes talks about all this uncertainty in WCW and mentions the major announcement scheduled for tomorrow night once again. Mike, Tony and Dusty have no idea of what to make about what just happened or what to expect tomorrow night on WCW Monday Nitro live on TBS! Tony Schiavone thanks his fellow broadcasters as well as Dave Penzer, Michael Buffer and Todd Petingill before signing off…
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING presents:
London, England Wembley Arena March 12, 1995 Announcers: Tony Schiavone & Mike Tenay Ring Announcer: Dave Penzer Interviewer: Todd Petingill Referees: Scott Dickinson, Charles Robinson & Mickey Jay *Tony Schiavone and “The Professor” Mike Tenay welcome us to this edition of WCW Monday Nitro, coming to you live from London, England. Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay says that WCW is on tour in Europe and this coincides with perhaps the most bizarre night in the promotion’s history. Still photos are then shown of last night’s WCW SuperBrawl, where Shawn Michaels was revealed as The Outsiders' third man. However, mid way through the match, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall walked out on Michaels with no explanation and Shawn fell victim to Ric Flair’s Figure Four Leg Lock. Michaels submitted and was eventually carted out of WCW SuperBrawl on a stretcher. Ric Flair appeared gleeful at this, but it looked like his partners Chris Benoit and Sting were totally unaware of what had just happened. Also, we know that the crisis that was provoked last week caused the WCW stockholders to make some sort of major decision and that will be announced in mere moments. Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone are just shocked about all that has transpired in the last 24 hours and hopefully tonight we will get some answers… *WCW President James J. Dillon is then seen making his way down the aisle and he steps into the ring. Dillon asks for the microphone and says he promised the fans some answers tonight, but he has to admit he’s as in the dark about the state of WCW as everyone else is. Dillon reveals that he has had trouble getting any of the majority stockholders on the phone and those who did speak to him told him that WCW is no longer their concern. At this point, some very familiar music begins playing in the arena: *WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair struts down to the ring, but he is not dressed to wrestle. The Nature Boy is dressed in a fine Armani suit! Flair takes a microphone and smiles that big grin as the fans shout some “WOOOOOOOS” at the world champion. Flair pats J.J. Dillon on the shoulder and then begins speaking… RIC FLAIR: “J.J., I’m so sorry to interrupt you here tonight live in front of the world in London, England, but I really must! You see, last night at WCW SuperBrawl, Team WCW defeated The Outsiders and I sent Shawn Michaels out of World Championship Wrestling for good. I guaranteed it would happen and I made it happen, J.J.!” J.J. DILLON: “You made it happen? What’s that supposed to mean?” RIC FLAIR: “HAHA! J.J., there was a time and place where you would have never had to ask that question. I said exactly what I meant. I made it happen! See, two years ago, I came back to WCW and said I wanted to get back to the top of the mountain! I did it. Do you see Big Van Vader around here? No! I put his big fat ass in the Figure Four and he crawled away kicking and screaming! Then, some long-haired sissy named Shawn Michaels showed up in the audience last summer and started making claims towards my status as THE MAN in this company. Michaels sat in the crowd and did little sneak attacks – he became an annoyance to me, J.J.! The problem with Shawn Michaels though is that he has a 10-cent brain. So, I reached out to a few guys. I reached out Scott Hall. I reached out to Kevin Nash. I made them a financial offer to pull the wool over the eyes of the guy who used them to make a name for themselves. So I made them an offer to lure Michaels in and then leave him high and dry when he was in the ring with ME! That’s what you all saw last night in Birmingham!” J.J. DILLON: “Wait a second here, Ric. You’re telling me you had a role in this whole Outsider invasion?” RIC FLAIR: “A role? A role?!? I masterminded the whole damn thing. Why? It wasn’t just because of Shawn Michaels. It started that way, but it became clear early on that he fell for it all and was going to be toast. And he was – last night he got carted out. But I also saw something else. This whole invasion started causing a stir in Turner Tower in Atlanta. The WCW executives started to panic. That’s when I realized what this could all really turn into. See, because I knew that if the executives started panicking enough, then the stockholders would start to panic. We all saw what happened. They held an emergency meeting last week and many of them announced their intentions to sell of their stock. “Now, here’s where it gets good. Ted Dibiase – he was just a pawn in the game. The one thing he was good for was introducing me to people with a lot of money. The kind of people who are business-minded and know a good investment when they see one. Poor Ted, all he got for his unknowing role in my plan was a Jackknife last week. Life’s hard sometimes! HAHA! I talked to these rich investors and I formed a consortium. And I showed up at that stockholders meeting. A business transaction as made, J.J. My consortium purchased a majority stake in World Championship Wrestling. You know what that means, J.J,? I think you do. It means I’M YOUR BOSS, J.J.!” J.J. DILLON: “Ric, I don’t… I don’t understand what this is…” RIC FLAIR: “Understand this, J.J.! I remember 1988. I remember when you left The Horsemen high and dry to go take an office job in the WWF. You know what that means for you now, J.J.? It means your services… ARE… NO… LONGER… REQUIRED!!! WCW HAS A NEW PRESIDENT… AND HIS NAME IS RIC FLAIR!!! WOOOOO!! YOU’RE FIRED!!! GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!!!” *Ric Flair hits the ropes and struts down the center of the ring as J.J. Dillon bows his head in shame. Flair now gets in his face and shoves Dillon! J.J. Dillon nods his head in disgust, steps out onto the apron and leaves. Flair then holds up the WCW Word Heavyweight Championship belt… RIC FLAIR: “That brings me to the WCW World Heavyweight Title. The one downside to my plan is that it does state in the WCW bylaws that the President of the company cannot hold the World Heavyweight Title – only the World Heavyweight Title is mentioned by the way! Apparently it’s a conflict of interest. I’m working with my legal team to have this part of the bylaws overturned, but as of right now I cannot legally hold this belt. “So as of right now, this championship belt is vacant. That means we will be crowning a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion coming up in April at WCW Uncensored. I’m going to be announcing details of a tournament to crown the new champion a little later tonight. Right now, however, I want to make one thing perfectly clear. Tonight begins a new era here in World Championship Wrestling. Finally, a man with vision is in charge of this company and I will be overseeing every single aspect of World Championship Wrestling. Last Thursday, I used some of those Turner bucks to sign several of the greatest wrestlers from all over the world and more are coming in the next few months “Opportunities will be given to the talent under my watch. I am a fair man – but I want to tell everyone in that locker-room that they better be fair to Flair! Because if you’re fair to Flair, Flair will be fair to you. So soak it all in people. The 12-time World Heavyweight Champion is now THE MAN in control here in WCW – as it always should have been. I welcome you all to… THE FLAIR ADMINISTRATION!” *Ric Flair’s music plays as he struts around the ring. We go back now to Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone, who are absolutely stunned at what has occurred. Not only was Ric Flair behind the Outsider invasion as some sort of false flag operation. Ric Flair sacrificed his own manager Ted Dibiase to ensure his plan worked and then led a consortium to buy up WCW stock. But fans, now Ric Flair is control of World Championship Wrestling and has ushered in The Flair Administration! Tenay and Schiavone don’t know what to make of what we have seen here – especially the public firing of J.J. Dillon. Tony wonders if dark days may be ahead here in World Championship Wrestling as we take our first commercial break of the evening… **commercial break** *WCW Women’s Champion Madusa joins Todd Petingill for an interview about her upcoming tour of Japan. Madusa will be defending the belt in Japan at the Super J Cup tournament against the sadistic Aja Kong. The champion tells Todd that she has a long history with Kong, dating back to her time training in the All-Japan dojo many years ago. Madusa believes that Aja Kong will be the toughest challenge of her title reign thus far, but she wants to settle the score one last time with her enemy. Madusa turns to leave, but she is blind-sided by Bull Nakano! Nakano goes to town on Madusa and throws her shoulder-first into the steel ring post. Bull then pulls Madusa in and plants her with a sit-out power-bomb on the arena floor. WCW officials and even Tiger Ali Singh are out and Singh pulls Nakano away as she screams at the fallen Madusa in Japanese. Madusa has to be helped out by trainers so we can get on with the next match. Tenay and Schiavone discuss how Madusa may now be at a severe disadvantage for her title match in Japan with Aja Kong after this brutal sneak attack by Bull Nakano… 1) Jerry Lynn vs. Super Calo: The debut of Jerry Lynn, coming off a long championship run in another federation. Super Calo tries to dominate with a quick pace, but Lynn hangs with him and devastates Calo with a top rope dropkick while Calo was on the ring apron. Lynn then suplexes Super Calo back into the ring and leaps onto the middle turnbuckle and connects with a moon-sault. Lynn then pulls Super Calo up by his mask and signals for the end, but it’s not to be as Calo lands a shot to the chin. Super Calo goes for a spinning wheel kick, but Lynn dodges him, kicks him in the gut and spikes Super Calo with a cradle piledriver! Lynn makes the cover and gets the three count to score a decisive victory in his WCW debut. WINNER: JERRY LYNN **commercial break** *WCW President Ric Flair is standing by at the top of the entrance ramp with Todd Petingill. Flair is out to talk about the WCW World Title tournament, but first he calls out WCW World Television Champ Chris Benoit. Ric tells the stand-offish Benoit he knows Chris wasn’t in on the particulars about the whole invasion plan, but he wants Chris to know how highly he is valued. Flair believes Benoit will be one of the cornerstones of this company if he shakes his hand right here and joins The Flair Administration. The fans are clearly urging Chris Benoit to turn Ric Flair down and he looks to be swayed by them, but finally he tells Flair he has backed Ric up for the last several months and it’s gotten him far. Benoit says he trusts Flair and will continue to look out for him. The Crippler shakes Ric Flair’s hand, eliciting boos from the crowd… *Ric Flair then says Chris Benoit is going to be rewarded for his loyalty with a spot in the WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament. Flair then runs down the brackets for the tournament, which will begin next week here on WCW Monday Nitro. The WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Scott Norton already has a guaranteed shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Title, which he will receive in the weeks following WCW Uncensored. Eight other top contenders from around the world will take part in this tournament. Two matches in the first round will air next week on WCW Monday Nitro live from Battlecreek, MI and the second two matches will air the following week on WCW Monday Nitro from Montreal. We will have the semi-finals in three weeks here on WCW Monday Nitro from Toronto and the finals will air live on WCW Uncensored on April 8 live from Calgary, which Flair says is the home of the most overrated wrestling family of all-time. Ric Flair has granted Brian Pillman a slot in this tournament, but if he loses any of his matches he is fired from WCW! Here are the brackets: WCW WORD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT 1st ROUND:
CHRIS BENOIT VS BOBBY EATON ALEX WRIGHT V A MYSTERY ENTRANT THE GIANT V BRIAN PILLMAN ICE TRAIN VS AVALANCHE *Ric Flair goes to wrap up the interview, but music begins playing: *IT’S THE STINGER! We have yet to find out what role he played in Ric Flair’s grand plan to seize control. Ric Flair is smiling, while Chris Benoit eyes Sting suspiciously. Sting doesn’t look pleased in any way here as he is handed a microphone from one in the stage hands: STING: “Would somebody mind telling me what the hell is going on here? It looks like I want to bed on Saturday night and got trapped in a nightmare that I just can’t wake up from. Ric, I know why you didn’t clue me in on your little plan because you knew there’s no way in hell I would have EVER gone along with it. I don’t need to rig the game so I come out the winner. But WHAT IN THE HELL are you thinking leaving me out of a tournament for the WCW World Heavyweight Title? You know I’m The Franchise! I once beat you for that belt – it was the biggest night of my career. After the way you duped me last night, you OWE me a spot in this tournament, Ric! At the very least it’ll cleanse your karma a little after what you've pulled!” RIC FLAIR: “Sting, I’d hoped to handle this privately, but since you’re here we’ll do it this way. Listen Stinger, I appreciate what you did last night. But really, I didn’t need you. You were actually a liability in that match. In fact, you’re just one big liability in general because you can’t be reasoned with. So are you getting in the tournament? No. The reason why is because you’re no longer an employee of World Championship Wrestling. I thank you very much for all your years of service to WCW, but much like J.J. Dillon, your services are no longer required! Now, let’s not make a scene of this. Just leave and this doesn’t have to be embarrassing for you, Stinger!” *Stinger can’t believe what he’s hearing – and he decks Ric Flair! Sting is going to town on Ric Flair here, but Chris Benoit pounces! Benoit and Sting are now brawling as Ric Flair motions for Doug Dillinger, who arrives with a dozen security guards. Sting will not be denied as he fights all of them, but the numbers game take over and they get his hands behind his back and cuff him! Tony and Mike talk about revolting it is that The Franchise of WCW has been fired and is being led out of WCW Monday Nitro in hand-cuffs. Ric Flair is laughing hysterically as the audience boos like crazy. Tony Schiavone: “Fans, the final image we are seeing of Sting here in World Championship Wrestling after all these years is The Stinger being publicly fired and thrown out of the building! It makes me sick!” We go to commercial with Ric Flair patting Chris Benoit on the shoulder and telling him ‘good job’… **commercial break** *Marcus “Buff” Bagwell is interviewed in the dressing room about shoving down the injured Alex Wright on last week’s show. Bagwell tells Todd Petingill that he would never dare come out here with a neck collar and complain about being injured. First of all, Bagwell would have never put himself in the situation to get attacked and second of all, he would have damn sure gotten even. The arrogant Bagwell alleges that WCW is where the big boys play and clearly Alex Wright can't hang with the big boys. And if Alex Wright doesn’t like what he has to say, Wright can try to shut him up. Bagwell says the only thing that matters is that he’s buff, he’s the stuff and the girls just can’t get enough. Marcus Bagwell strikes one of his poses and smiles into the camera, while Petingill sends us back to Tenay and Schiavone. Tony mentions that he’s never seen a bigger case of success going to someone’s head than what we have seen since Marcus Bagwell returned to WCW… 2) Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman vs. Perro Aguayo & Perrito Aguayo: A typical lucha match here, with Kidman and Rey playing up a little dissention in the ranks. The Aguayos are father and son so they really are smooth in the ring, but Perro has trouble keeping up with the young guys. The finish sees Perrito go for a flying leg drop, but Mysterio gets out of the way. Kidman gets the hot tag and goes right up for the shooting star press to score the three count! Mysterio and Kidman score another victory. WINNERS: REY MYSTERIO JR. & BILLY KIDMAN *Todd Petingill interviews Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman about their win tonight and the events at WCW SuperBrawl, where their opponent Kenta Kobashi turned on his partner Lance Storm in the middle of the match. Kidman said he and Rey didn’t need the help, but he didn’t mind seeing Lance Storm get his neck crunched in the Burning Hammer. Mysterio nods his head in disapproval and says he respects Lance Storm and wants to see him come back for some revenge on Kobashi and Misawa. Petingill then moves on to Mysterio and Kidman’s next major match coming up at WCW Uncensored when these two men face Rey’s long-time enemies from his days in Mexico – the incredible team of Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis. Kidman says he lets a lot roll off his back, but not these two guys. Billy says they fight dirty and nobody knows that better than Rey Mysterio Jr, Mysterio talks about his many wars with both Guerrera and Psychosis and admits he’s not too happy that they will be coming here to WCW, but the one positive is it gives him a chance to beat them both inside the ring. Kidman promises that he and Mysterio will be ready for anything at WCW Uncensored in just a few weeks time… **commercial break** *Todd Petingill is joined by Chavo Guerrero Jr., who will take on WCW World Cruiserweigh Champion Super Delfin on next week’s program. Chavo is incredibly honored to be receiving this title match given his relatively short time here in WCW. He mentions how the reputation of the Guerrero family precedes him, stretching from his grandfather Guerrero to his father and uncles and now down to him. Chavo says he is very proud of his heritage and wants to live up to the Guerrero reputation. The first step to doing that is by winning the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship right here next week on WCW Monday Nitro. Guerrero knows that Super Delfin is one of the fastest and most exciting wrestlers in the world today, but Chavo reminds the fans that he’s learned from five of the fastest and most exciting wrestlers of all time. Next week, Chavo Guerrero Jr. will be anticipating everything and looking to score the upset of the year against Super Delfin Todd thanks Chavo for his time and sends us up to the ring for a title match… 3) Marcus “Buff” Bagwell vs. Jim Powers: Bagwell insists that Jim Powers stand aside as he flexes before the match begins. Powers then steps in and matches him pose for pose, earning many more cheers than Marcus. An angry Bagwell attacks Jim Powers from behind and really works him over throughout the match. Powers rebounds and scores a series of near falls after a vertical suplex, a lariat and power-slam, but Bagwell keeps kicking out. Jim Powers then goes for a running knee drop, but Marcus Bagwell escapes. Bagwell then perches on the second rope and connects with the Blockbuster to score the win. Bagwell begins stomping on Jim Powers after the bell, but Alex Wright runs down to the ring and he’s looking for a fight! Bagwell slides right out of the ring and takes off up the aisle, while Alex Wright demands that he come back to the ring. WINNER: MARCUS “BUFF” BAGWELL **commercial break** *Todd Petingill is standing by with WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) and their manager Precious Paul Ellering. Petingill congratulates them but reveals if they win tonight, the LOD will defend the gold right here next week on WCW Monday Nitro against a mystery team, as per an order made by WCW President Ric Flair. Ellering says it looks very much like Ric Flair is trying to settle old scores and he clearly remembers getting his head slammed into the cage in the War Games all those years ago. The surprise factor doesn’t matter, according to Paul Ellering. This mystery team will meet the same fate that Pretty Wonderful, The Can-Am Express and The Nasty Boys have met when they crossed the Legion of doom. They will be taken sent out of WCW on stretchers. Hawk then takes the microphone: “A mystery team? Animal and I love a good mystery. But you don’t need to be Agatha Christie to figure out what happens to our opponents. The only mystery is will our opponents’ heads still be attached to their necks next after we beat ‘em! Buck, Slater and then two more guys next week on Nitro – two teams bite the dust! OHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT A RUSH!!!!” Hawk and Animal stare menacingly into the camera as Petingill sends us up to the ring… 4) WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Scott Norton vs. Rochester Roadblock: Scott Norton shocked the world last week when he defeated Mortis to win the WCW United States Heavyweight Title in his first match back in WCW. His first defense is against the very large and very tough Roadblock, who goes toe-to-toe with North early on. Scott Norton is a beast though and he eventually begins brutalizing Roadblock. He connects with a belly-to-belly suplex and goes for the cover, but then yanks Roadblock up at two. Norton perches in the corner and then spears the groggy Rochester Roadblock, but again pulls him up at two! Finally Norton has had enough and he manages to lift the big man into the air into a sit-out power-bomb! Scott Norton makes the cover and he gets the emphatic three count! Flash retains the gold and he does it by destroying a very tough, dangerous opponent! WINNER: SCOTT NORTON *Todd Petingill is plugging the WCW Hotline, where he teases that one of the all-time great big men in professional has just signed a WCW contract and will be debuting very soon. Todd is interrupted by Avalanche, who yells at Petingill that the only big man that matters in this sport is himself! Avalanche shouts that he cannot seem to get rid of this Ice Train. He’s squashed the man, he’s broken the man’s ribs and he’s beaten the man, but this goof is too dumb to stay down. Avalanche says the only thing he has left to take from Ice Train is the dream of becoming WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Two weeks from tonight, he gets that opportunity in a tournament match. Avalanche says he’s going to take a lot of joy in beating Ice Train one more time and then moving on to become the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Avalanche then throws the microphone back at Todd Petingill and storms off as we go to another commercial break… **commercial break** 5) The Giant (w/ The Taskmaster) vs. Meng: This one is another battle of the bullies as Meng comes at The Giant as soon as the bell rings. The Giant no-sells Meng’s offense at first, eventually boot him down. The Giant then pulls Meng up by the hair, but Meng lands a side-kick to the stomach. The Giant is rattled down and Meng kicks the big man back into the corner! The Taskmaster is going nuts on the outside and he even gets up on the apron, only to get decked by Meng! Meng now signals for the end and throws up his arm to apply the Tongan Death Grip, but The Giant has a longer reach and he grabs Meng by the throat! Up goes Meng and down goes Meng into – the choke-slam! The Giant makes the cover for the three count! The Taskmaster enters the ring after the match and orders The Giant to use another choke-slam, but here comes Meng’s partner Barbarian! Barbarian lands a few shots on The Giant and goes for the Kick of Fear, but The Giant grabs him and lays Barbarian out with a choke-slam! Fans, The Giant has just taken out both Faces of Fear with his choke-slam! Can this man be stopped in the WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament? WINNER: THE GIANT *Tiger Ali Singh, Kurasawa and the reunited team of Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi is standing by with Todd Petingill. Todd asks Kobashi how he could look at the mirror after turning his back on Lance Storm last night. Sinigh translates the question to Kobashi, who breaks his typical ice cold demeanor to bark back an answer in Japanese and then stare menacingly into the camera. Singh says it was in fact Lance Storm who turned because he struck Kenta in the face last night! Todd says that was clearly an accidents, but Singh snipes that there are no such things as accidents and now Lance Storm is on the shelf forever. Todd says he knows that Storm is hurt, but there may be a chance for him to come back. Tiger Ali Singh insists that this will never happen and now Misawa and Kobashi are going to focus on winning the WCW World Tag Team Champion belts. Tiger predicts that his Imperial Empire will become the dominant force here in World Championship Wrestling in the coming months… **commercial break** *VTR: Jerry Lynn is standing by in the dressing room. Lynn talks about dominating the competition in the minor leagues, but he knows it’s time to step up to the plate here in WCW, where the big boys play. Jerry says he’s not an arrogant man, but he truly believes he is one of the best young stars in professional wrestling today. He’s going to prove it by getting win after win in the ring. He is intent to prove that the sky is the limit for Jerry Lynn here in World Championship Wrestling. We go back to Tony and Mike to talk a little about Jerry Lynn. Mike Tenay discusses watching Lynn compete in the Minnesota independent promotions a few years ago and it was clear then that Jerry was a star. Tenay says Jerry Lynn has only gotten better since then – in fact, he believes Jerry will be a serious contender to any title he sets his sights on here in World Championship Wrestling. Tony then sends us up to the ring for our next match… 6) WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. Rough N’ Ready (Dick Slater & Bunkhouse Buck) (w/ Col. Parker): This one is of course a wild brawl and remember fans the winning team must defend against two mystery men next week here on WCW Monday Nitro. Rough N’ Read make a series of quick tags early on to score some two counts on Hawk, but Animal eventually tags and levels both Slater and Buck. The Legion of Doom go on a run and land double shoulder-blocks on Rough N’ Ready. Dick Slater rolls out onto the apron just in time for Col. Parker to hand him his wooden cane! Back in the ring, Animal gets Bunkhouse Buck up on his shoulders and Hawk climbs up top for the Doomsday Device, but Dick Slater levels Animal across the back with the cane! The referee has no choice but to throw this match out as Dick Slater bashes Animal across the back with that cane and then hits Hawk with it as well! WINNERS BY DQ: LEGION OF DOOM *Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater are now working over Animal with Col. Parker’s cane, but here comes Hawk with a double clothesline on Rough N’ Ready. The Road Warriors then take over and manage to knock both Buck and Slater out of the ring. Col. Parker and Rough N’ Ready have had enough at this point so they take off for the dressing room. Paul Ellering then brings the title belts into the ring and celebrates with the Legion of Doom. As the Legion of Doom hold up the gold for the fans to see, the sound of Harley Davidsons revving can be heard in the ring. This goes on for a few seconds, until the camera pans to the aisle as two men drive their bikes down the aisle. They are both wearing dark helmets, but they step off their bikes at ringside and then walk into the ring. These two remove their motorcycle helmets to reveal… IT’S RICK STEINER!!!
IT’S SCOTT STEINER!!!
IT’S THE STEINER BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!! *The fans are going crazy here – the Steiner Brothers have returned to World Championship Wrestling! Scott and Rick get right in the faces of the Road Warriors, who don’t back down even a little. Scott then points to one of the championship titles and shouts that he and Rick are going to take the belts next week! Fans, the Steiners must be the mystery team! Mike and Tony are marking out as they announce that WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom will defend their belts against Rick & Scott Steiner right here next week live on WCW Monday Nitro! The Steiners and The Road Warriors square up in the ring and exchange some unkind words, but Scott and Rick tell Hawk and Animal that they will see them next week and walk out of the ring! There’s an electricity in the building as the Steiners shake hands with the fans around ringside – what a moment here on WCW Monday Nitro… *Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay wrap up this week’s show and remind fans that the WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament starts next week right here on WCW Monday Nitro. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING presents:
Battlecreek, MI Kellog Arena March 19, 1995 Announcers: Tony Schiavone & Mike Tenay Ring Announcer: Dave Penzer Interviewer: Todd Petingill Referees: Scott Dickinson, Charles Robinson & Mickey Jay *Tony Schiavone and “The Professor” Mike Tenay welcome us to this edition of WCW Monday Nitro, coming to you live from Battlecreek, MI. We are now a full week into The Flair Administration and the action will really kick off tonight with two matches in the WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament: Alex Wright vs. A Mystery Partner as well as Chris Benoit vs. Bobby Eaton. WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom also put their titles on the line tonight against the returning Steiner Brothers, who shocked the wrestling world by showing up on last week’s WCW Monday Nitro. Also tonight, we will have WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Super Delfin putting his gold on the line against Chavo Guerrero Jr. The dangerous Mexican team of Psychosis and Juventud Guerrera will also be making their debuts tonight, ahead of their match with Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman at WCW Uncensored. Mike and Tony also discuss last week’s public firing of Sting and neither can get over the way The Stinger was forced out of World Championship Wrestling. The two talk a little bit more about the Flair Administration, until the theme from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ begins playing in the arena… *WCW President Ric Flair makes his way out to the entrance ramp and he has a microphone hand. Flair talks about the WCW World Title Tournament and mentions again that one participant had been left a mystery. Ric says that slot has been filled by a man who has been fair to Flair. The WCW President reveals that although this major star is not officially a member of The Flair Administration like Chris Benoit is, he and this individual have agreed to a peaceful co-existence here in World Championship Wrestling. The Nature Boy says without further adieu, making his first official appearance as a member of the World Championship Wrestling roster is the mystery entrant in the WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament: 1) WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament, Round 1: “Big Daddy Cool” Kevin Nash (w/ Scott Hall) vs. Alex Wright: Alex Wright has revenge on his mind after being attacked by Hall and Nash a few weeks back. Wright actually stuns Nash with a big dropkick and then decks Hall, when The Outsider gets up on the apron. Alex Wright is going crazy, when Buff Bagwell makes his way down the aisle and taunts Alex. This allows Kevin Nash to blind-side Wright with a big forearm and he basically then takes Alex apart. Nash connects with the side suplex and the big boot to the forehead. He then pulls Wright up and destroys him with a ring-shaking Jacknife power-bomb. Kevin Nash makes the cover and gets the three count! Buff Bagwell chuckles on the outside and walks off, while Kevin Nash pulls Alex Wright up by the hair and hurls him over the top rope. WINNER: KEVIN NASH *Scott Hall snatches the microphone from ringside and enters the ring. Scott shouts: “Wolfpac in the hoooooooouse!” Hall hands the microphone to Kevin Nash, who brags about just destroying one of WCW’s finest in no time flat. Nash says WCW has seen a lot of great stars pass through over the years, but they have no idea what they are in for now that he and Scott Hall have decided to make this their home promotion. Kevin promises that he’s going straight to the top and he’ll go through WCW’s best and brightest to get to that big gold belt. There’s nobody in WCW or in this business that can stop him. Some weakling who called himself The Hitman tried and he got Jacknifed! Some big, jack-ed up Deadman tried and he got Jack-nifed straight to hell! That’s exactly what will happen to anyone who stands in the Wolfpac. Nash: “And when you’re in the Wolfpac, you’re Wolfpac… for liiiiife!” Kevin Nash throws his arms up as Scott Hall strikes his signature pose beside him. Fans, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are officially on the WCW roster and they are already on the warpath… **commercial break** *VTR: Former WCW World Television Champion Bobby Eaton is standing in front of a WCW logo. Bobby talks about his long history in WCW, having dominated the tag team ranks throughout the early 80s and 90s. He also reminds fans that he had a long run as WCW World TV Champion a few years ago, where he beat the likes of Steve Austin and Arn Anderson. Bobby says the one championship belt that has eluded him is the WCW World Heavyweight Title. It seems like the World Champions have always been afraid to defend against him because they know he has what it takes to win the big one. Eaton mentions that he once came within a breath of winning the gold in a very memorable match with Ric Flair, but he came up just a little short. Beautiful Bobby promises that he will not come up short in this tournament – he’s playing to win. Eaton respects Chris Benoit as one of the superstars of the future, but Bobby isn’t ready to give up his spot at the top just yet. Eaton promises that he’s finally to take that big leap and it all starts tonight when he faces Chris Benoit in the tournament… 2) Los Villanos (IV & V) vs. Psychosis & Juventud Guerrera: A great lucha match here, with the heavier Villanos trying to keep the match on their side of the ring. Psychosis derails their plans with a leaping hurricanrana and then coming off the second rope with a second rope splash on IV. Juventud Guerrera tags in and comes right off the top rope with a twisting splash on Villano IV and then a big leg drop. Villano IV stumbles to his feet, but he walks right into the Juvi Driver (Michinoku Driver). Guerrera makes the cover and scores the easy three count. WINNERS: JUVENTUD GUERRERA & PSYCHOSIS *Todd Petingill steps into the ring after the match to get a word with Psychosis and Juventud Guerrera after their successful debut. Petingill asks them what it feels like to be wrestling on such a grand stage like WCW, but Psychosis answers him by shouting in Spanish for a few seconds. Juventud Guerrera then calms his partner down and tells Petingill that “Juvi Juice is running wild on WCW, hermano!” Guerrera says he has been chasing Rey Mysterio Jr. all over North America and he can’t wait to embarrass “the little runt” at WCW Uncensored. Mysterio is just the first step in the road. Juventud says he and Psicosis both want championship gold so they are putting Super Delfin on warning that they will be coming for his WCW World Cruiserweight Title. Juvi says he’s heard that El Hijo Del Santo and Octagon are here in WCW as well and he has a long-standing grudge he wants to settle with them as well. Juvi says he and Psychosis have come to WCW because this is where the big boys play and while they may not be the biggest boys in the yard, there’s nobody can keep up with them in the ring. Juventud Guerrera then poses on the turnbuckle as Psychosis argues with several of the fans seated at ringside… **commercial break** *Todd Petingill is standing in the aisle and plugging his hotline. Petingill says he’s learned that one of the top fan favorites from another promotion will be making his debut in WCW imminently and he’ll reveal all on the hotline. Todd is finishing up his promo, when he is interrupted by none other than Gary Hart! Hart tells Todd that he’s been hired by New Japan Wrestling to watch over three very important talents because Tiger Ali Singh has been recalled to Japan for some personal business. Gary talks about making the Great Muta the greatest sensation in wrestling a few years ago and he will do the same for three of the greatest talent every to work in this business: Bull Nakano, Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa. Those three make their way out to the ramp and Hart explains that Nakano brutalized Madusa last week to make a point. Madusa may have gotten one win, but she will never be able to get rid of Bull Nakano! Gary Hart has heard that Madusa is hiding in Japan, but when she comes back to the US she will have to face the Bull. Gary Hart also promises that he will lead Kobashi and Misawa to tag team gold as well, now that Lance Storm has been eliminated. Todd says he’s heard that Lance Storm intends to return, but Gary Hart promises that it will never happen. Hart leads his trio away as we go back up to the ring… 3) WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Super Delfin vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.: Chavo is on top of his game here and he gains a series of near-falls early on after some suplexes. Super Delfin looks to be in real trouble here as Chavo sets him up for a sit-out power-bomb. Delfin is able to change the momentum in mid-air and he connects with the spinning head-scissors. Super Delfin goes for the Delfin Special and he connects! The champion makes the cover, but Chavo kicks out! Chavo is pulled back up and he turns the tables with a jaw-breaker on Super Delfin! Chavo then goes up top for the frog splash, but Delfin somehow is able to roll away! Both men are dazed now, but Delfin grabs a hold of Chavo and connects with the Tiger Suplex! Super Delfin makes the cover and he gets the three count! After the match, Super Delfin helps the young Chavo Guerrero Jr. to his feet and raises his opponent’s arm high in the air. WINNER: SUPER DELFIN *VTR: WCW Word Television Champion “The Canadian Crippler” Chris Benoit is standing in front of the WCW logo. Benoit says tonight he takes one step towards his destiny of becoming WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Standing in his way is the infamous Bobby Eaton of the Midnight Express, who revolutionized pro wrestling the 1980s. Benoit says he has a wake-up call – it’s the 1990s now and the man revolutionizing the sport today is none other than the Canadian Crippler himself. The Crippler talks about Bobby Eaton’s promo earlier, where he touted himself as a former WCW World TV Champion. Benoit says he himself is not a former WCW World TV Champion – he’s the CURRENT champion! Benoit says Bobby Eaton is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and a legend in this sport, but time has passed him by. Tonight, Bobby Eaton is going to get schooled by professional wrestling’s future legend and the hand-picked choice of WCW President Ric Flair – that’s Chris Benoit! The Crippler scowls at the camera as the scene fades out… **commercial break** *Jerry Lynn is standing by backstage with Todd Petingill. Lynn says he all the talk is about the WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament and rightfully so. Jerry says in the future, that belt will belong to him but he is going to work his way up the ladder. Lynn insists that he is afraid of no wrestler and he will step into the ring with anyone. Jerry says the cream of the crop are in WCW and more great stars are coming, but none of them will be able to get up after taking his cradle pile-driver. Petingill announces that on next week’s WCW Monday Nitro, Jerry Lynn will squaring off against Buff Bagwell. Lynn says he might not have the muscles like Bagwell, but he is bar-none a better wrestler than Bagwell and he’s much smarter in that ring. Jerry says Buff can flex all he wants, it won’t stop him from getting his shoulders counted down right here on WCW Monday Nitro right here next week on WCW Monday Nitro. Todd Petingill thanks Jerry Lynn for his time and then throws us back up to the ring for our next match… 4) WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament, Round 1: Bobby Eaton vs. Chris Benoit: A great wrestling match here, with both men gaining a series of near falls. Benoit goes for a belly-to-back suplex, but Eaton puts on the breaks and rolls him into a victory roll! Beautiful Bobby has cover, but Chris Benoit is able to kick out just before three. Eaton is up now and he decks Benoit with a big right hand and slams him! Bobby then points to the top rope and we all know he must be going for the Alabama Jam. Eaton climbs up the top rope, but has a little trouble gaining his footing. The lag allows Benoit to get up and deck him in the stomach! The Crippler then climbs up himself and superplexes Eaton back into the ring! Benoit makes the cover and he gets the three count! The Canadian Croppler advances in the WCW World Heavyweight Title Tournament: WINNER: CHRIS BENOIT *VTR: “The Zoo” by The Scorpions plays over highlights of WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Scott “Flash” Norton. We see clips from his previous tenure, including a slow motion shot of him bull-dozing Road Warrior Hawk with a running lariat. Those transition to highlights of Norton in Japan, dominating the likes of The Great Muta, The Equalizer and Shinya Hashimoto. Finally, clips are shown of his WCW US Title victory over Mortis a few weeks ago. The VTR closes with a slow motion shot of Scott Norton holding up the gold and staring menacingly at the camera. We go back to the arena where Mike Tenay announces that Scott Norton has been chosen as the #1 contender for Japan’s prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Title, which is held by Shinya Hashimoto. Norton will be traveling to Japan in early to get his title shot at a huge event at the Tokyo Dome, which will also feature The Steiner Brothers, Sting and The Great Muta. However, Scott Norton will also be here next week to defend his WCW United States Heavyweight Title against Dirty Dick Slater. Mike and Tony then send us to our next commercial break… **commercial break** *Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman are interviewed by Todd Petingill before the next match. Kidman says he was pretty impressed by Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis earlier tonight, but those two are going to come up short at WCW Uncensored because they are facing the best tag team in the world today. Kidman boasts that he and Rey could take any team right now – the Steiners and the Road Warriors included. Rey is as usual much more humble and says as much as he despises Guerrera and Pscisosis, he knows they are incredible in-ring talents. Mysterio says he and Kidman are going to be on top of their game at WCW Uncensored and they are hoping to come out on top. Kidman jokes that there’s no “hoping” about it, the Dream Team of Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. are on a rocket ship to the top of WCW. Todd then sends us back to Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay. Mike says he thinks Billy Kidman may very well be underestimating Psychosis and Juventud Guerrera, who have beaten every top tag team in Mexico. Tony then throws it up to the ring for our next match… http:// psd-dreams.de/data/thumbnails/28/Rey_Mysterio_Render_By_PSDD-Dipset2.jpg [/img] 5) Steve “Mongo” McMichael vs. Kurasawa: Mongo looks dominant here as he takes Kurasawa apart from bell to bell. Kurasawa tries to come back with a series of kicks, but that asshole Mongo no-sells all of them and clotheslines his opponent! Mongo then gets down into the football stance and hits a big running tackle. Ric Flair makes his way out at this point and watches the match, but he tells the cameraman to scram. Mongo then pulls Kurasawa up and connects with an ugly looking tombstone piledriver to score another big win here on WCW Monday Nitro. Flair seems impressed after the bell and nods in approval, before walking off to the dressing room. WINNER: STEVE “MONGO” MCMICHAEL *Steve McMichael is interviewed by Todd Petingill after picking up yet another win. Todd asks if Mongo knows why WCW President Ric Flair came out to watch his match, but McMichael says he doesn’t have any idea. He thinks Flair is just impressed by the ultimate athletes in this sport and nobody lives up to that monicker more than Mongo. McMichael reminds Todd that he’s undefeated here in WCW, even against the tough SOBs that WCW has put him up against. Mongo says nobody could stop him on the gridiron and it’s looking like nobody can stop him in the ring either. McMichael says he’s hard rumors of some WCW wrestlers upset that he was able to join the WCW roster so easily, but Mongo says that’s what happens when you’re a sports superstar. Mongo then poses on the turnbuckle as Todd Petingill once again plus his hotline and sends us to a special VTR highlighting former AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo Del Santo and Octagon… **commercial break** *VTR: The Taskmaster is standing by The Giant and Mortis. Kevin Sullivan says next week begins the “long walk to glory” when The Giant gets his chance to become WCW World Heavyweight Champion. The Taskmaster says The Giant has a destiny to fulfill – his father once defeated the white Bengal tiger to become World Champion and now The Giant must do the same. That also means that The Giant will have one more chance to destroy Brian Pillman. The Giant shouts that Pillman has proven himself to be a roadblock that can’t be obliterated even facing ultimate destruction. He promises that next week he will not only defeat and destroy Brian Pillman, he will also end Flyin’ Brian’s WCW career. And the he will go on to become WCW World Heavyweight Champion. The Taskmaster then turns his attention to Mortis and says the masked man must begin carrying his own weight. Mortis bows his head in shame, but Sullivan revels that he’s found a lead on a tag team partner for Mortis. Mortis looks up as The Taskmaster gives him a scroll. The Taskmaster orders to search out the depths of Parts Unknown and bring back The Laughing Man! The Taskmaster begins to cackle uncontrollably as Mortis reads the scroll and The Giant throws up his right hand… 6) WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) (w/ Paul Ellering) vs. The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner): If you’ve never seen a match between these two great teams, this contest looked quite a lot like this: The finish of the match sees all four men brawling in the ring. Hawk manages to come off the ropes with a boot that sends Rick Steiner out to the apron. The Road Warriors then double-team Scott Steiner and set him up for the Doomsday Device. Animal gets Scott Steiner up on his shoulder as Hawk climbs to the top rope. However, Scott Steiner fights it and he comes crashing down on top of Animal. Rick Steiner then charges around the apron and bashes the confused Hawk. Hawk is wobbly on top, but Scott Steiner leaps up to the middle turnbuckle and connects with the belly-to-belly off the top rope on Hawk! Animal is up now, but Rick Steiner drills him with a brutal Steinerline! The Dog-Faced Gremline covers Animal and he gets the 1-2-3!! We have new champions! The defeated Legion of Doom roll out to the floor, while Rick and Scott Steiner celebrate with the belts inside the ring. WINNERS: THE STEINER BROTHERS *Todd Petingill steps into the ring with the brand new WCW World Tag Team Champions Rick & Scott Steiner! Scott Steiner tells Todd that there goal for 1995 was to return to WCW and take back their championship titles – they’ve done just that and it’s only March! Scott says it’s onwards and upwards and now they are the hunted here in WCW. Whether it’s against Kobashi/Misawa, the Dungeon of Doom or any of the lucha libre teams, he and brother Rick will happy to put their belts on the line each and every night of the week. Rick Steiner then pipes up and says he has a message for each and every team who steps into the ring with the Steiners – “Get ready to enter the dog pound! Woof! Woof!!” The Dog-Faced Gremlin leads the crowd in a chant as Scott Steiner stands on one of the turnbuckles and holds up his newly won championship belt as we go back to Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone to wrap up this week’s show… *Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay wrap up this week’s show and remind fans that the WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament continues next week right here on WCW Monday Nitro as The Giant faces Brian Pillman and Avalanche takes on Ice Train. Plus, WCW US Heavyweight Champion Scott “Flash” Norton puts his gold on the line against Dirty Dick Slater. Jerry Lynn will also be in action against Buff Bagwell. Schiavone is about to sign off, but there’s some sort of commotion in the crowd. Tony says he has been told there’s someone in the rafters of the building. The camera zooms up and the crowd cheers even more, but it’s dark up in the rafters and it’s clear who is standing up there. Before the camera can zoom in, the person turns his back so his face cannot be seen. All we can see is this person wearing a dark black coat. This brings out WCW President Ric Flair, who storms the broadcast booth and demands that the cameraman get a closer shot. The shadowy figure then walks off, with us ever getting a clear view. The camera cuts back to Ric Flair, who looks frustrated and confused by what we’ve just seen… (c) WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
Tenay also mentions that we will have a special non-tournament match as well as Madusa defends the WCW Women’s Championship against Aja Kong. Mike and Tenay then discuss the tournament brackets, with Meltzer predicting that he’s very impressed by the line-up. So impressed that he expects to hand no less than four or five 3 & 8/15 star match ratings. Without further adieu, let’s get to the action... OPENING ROUND: 1) LION HEART (Chris Jericho) V. FLYIN’ BRIAN: Quite an opener here as one of the favorites, Brian Pillman, squares off against ECW’s Interpromotional Champion Chris Jericho. These two get close to the time limit, but Lion Heart scores the huge upset with when he moves out of the way of Air Pillman and hits the LionSault to advance into the quarter-finals. WINNER: LION HEART 2) ULTIMO DRAGON V TERRY BOY: Mens Teioh is full-on channeling the spirit of the legendary Terry Funk here as he attacks Dragon with his cowbell before the bell even rings. Terry Boy lands a series of near-falls, including almost scoring a pin with the leaping pile-driver. However, Ultimo manages to shift the momentum when Terry Boy goes for a tombstone pile-driver and slips back behind Terry Boy. Ultimo Dragon hooks in the Dragon Sleeper and Terry Boy has no choice but to submit. WINNER: ULTIMO DRAGON 3) SUPER DELFIN V GEDO: This one is a dream match among some in the audience and many smark tape traders who bought this $50 VHS tape. Gedo dominates early on and almost gets the win with a belly-to-back release suplex. He then goes up top for the moon-sault, but the WCW World Cruiserweight Champion is able to roll out of the way. Super Delfin bombards Gedo with a series of kicks and then knocks him out with the Osaka Street Cutter to advance. WINNER: SUPER DELFIN 4) DICK TOGO V REY MYSTERIO JR.: One of the shining stars of Michinoku Pro meets one of WCW’s own cruiserweight all-stars in this one. Togo manages to keep Mysterio grounded early on with a series of suplexes. Mysterio rebounds and hits the ropes with a leaping dropkick. Rey then climbs up to the top rope and connect with the flying leg drop to score the three point. WINNER: REY MYSTERIO JR. 5) DEAN MALENKO V LANCE STORM: These two have faced off previously in WCW, where The Iceman has dominated Storm at times. The two start this one off slow, trading the momentum with a series of mat holds. Lance gains the moment after a flying forearm and then hits a shoulder-block off the top rope. Storm then goes for the super kick, but Malenko grabs Lance’s foot, spins him around and levels Storm with a clothesline. Malenko the applies the STF and gains the submission win over Storm. WINNER: DEAN MALENKO 6) THE GREAT SASUKE V TIGER KING: Another dream match as the man who defined junior heavyweight wrestling in the 80s faces off with the man who has defined junior heavyweight wrestling in the 90s. Sasuke starts this one off by hurling Tiger King out to the floor with a back-drop and then taking him out with a leaping splash off the top rope. Sasuke then throws Tiger King back into the ring, but Tiger is able to rebound by catching Sasuke with a hurricanrana. Tiger Mask finally manages to score the win by driving Sasuke head-first into the canvas with a spike piledriver. WINNER: TIGER KING QUARTER-FINALS 1) LION HEART V JUSHIN LIGER: Liger, of course, received a bye into the second round of this tournament, but Lion Heart is coming off a tough match against Brian Pillman. Liger takes advantage of Lion Heart’s fatigue, but the young Canadian starts keeps bringing the fight each time it looks like he is down. Liger eventually is able to score the win after coming off the top rope with the big moon-sault. WINNER: JUSHIN LIGER 2) SUPER DELFIN V ULTIMO DRAGON: Both of these stars have been spending most of their time in the United States recently, but they also both looked impressive in their first round manages. They manage to brawl out to the floor in the opening moments, where Dragon wipes out Delfin with a twisting senton off the apron. Dragon takes Delfon back in the ring and applies the Dragon Sleeper, which means trouble for Delfin. Ultimo really wrenches back on the hold and Delfin cannot get to the ropes. In a last burst of strength, Delfin propels them towards the turnbuckle, uses the ropes to scale backwards and connect with the Osaka Street Cutter! Delfin makes the cover and he gets the three count! Super Delfin has defeated one of the heavy favorites, Ultimo Dragon! After the bell, Ultimo Dragon shows tremendous sportsmanship by shaking Super Delfin’s hand and raising his arm high in the air. WINNER: SUPER DELFIN 3) REY MYSTERIO JR. VS. DEAN MALENKO: Mysterio and Malenko are tense in the opening moments here, with nearing man wanting to make a mistake. Dean takes Mysterio down to the canvas and applies a leg-scissors around Rey’s hand, but Mysterio breaks the hold by looping his legs around the bottom rope and forcing a break. As they get up, Mysterio leaps up and connects with the hurricanrana and then takes control for the next few minutes. Malenko slides out to the floor to try to regroup, but that’s a bad move as Rey leaps off the top rope with a flying dropkick which catches Dean Malenko on the floor. Mysterio then slides back into the ring, hits the ropes and leaps over the ropes with a senton down onto Malenko who is sprawled out on the concrete floor. Rey slides back into the ring as the referee counts out Dean Malenko. The Iceman only barely moves by the time the official reaches ten, which means he has been counted out. Rey Mysterio advances! WINNER: REY MYSTERIO JR. 4) TIGER KING VS. WILD PEGASUS (Chris Benoit): Wild Pegasus, like Jushin Liger, received a bye into round two and he takes on a man he has recently wrestled quite a lot in WCW – the legendary Tiger King. This one reminds a lot of fans of the classic Tiger Mask-Dynamite Kid matches, with a ton of near-falls and innovative offensive maneuvers. The finish sees Tiger King miss a flying cross-body block off the top rope. Wild Pegasus then levels Tiger King with a belly-to-belly suplex and then climbs up top to land the flying headbutt. Pegasus covers Tiger Mask and scores the three count to move into the semi-finals. WINNER: WILD PEGASUS SEMI-FINALS 1) JUSHIN LIGER V SUPER DELFIN: These two men start off in the middle of the ring with a hand-shake, but the niceties are out of the way as soon as the bell rings. Super Delfin sends Jushin Liger off the ropes and catches him with a chop to the chest and he’s now signaling for a martial arts kick and the crowd is going nuts. Just as he turns around, Liger is up and he drives his shoulder into the back of Delfin’s right knee, sending the WCW Cruiserweight Champion crumbling to the canvas. Liger is right on him, kicks Delfin’s knee and then driving his elbows into it. Jushin Liger works over Super Delfin’s knee for the next several minutes and now looks to apply the Surf Board. Super Delfin uses leverage to propel him off and Jushin Liger crashes into the turnbuckle. Delfin is slow to his feet, but he proceeds to grab Liger by the mask and bash his head into the turnbuckle several times. And now he’s signaling for a pile-driver once again and gets Liger into position. He lifts Liger up, but Jushin blocks it and lands an elbow to the stomach. Delfin has a look of agonizing pain on his face and Jushin Liger is right there to kick his leg out from underneath him. Jushin Liger goes to over grab Super Delfin, but incredibly Super Delfin is still fighting and he knocks Liger away with a knife-edge strike. Delfin tries to get to his feet, but he’s having trouble. Just then, Liger swoops in, grabs Delfin’s injured right leg and rolls him into a small package. The referee administers the count for the 1-2-NO! Delfin manages to kick out just in time! Liger doesn’t give up and he’s right back on Delfin and now he picks him and drops him neck first across the top rope. Liger lifts Delfin up and goes to finish him with the Liger Supex, but somehow Super Delfin breaks the hold by driving his head into Jushin’s stomach. Liger is flailing around and gasping for air and Delfin rolls him into a small package. The referee administers the count for the 1-2-NO!! Jushin Liger managed to kick out at the last second! Delfin is slow to his feet and he chops Liger a few times before catching him in the Tiger Bomb and bridges it into a pin. The referee makes the count for the 1-2-3….NO!! Liger is out again just before the official’s hand hit the canvas! Liger is down now and Super Delfin slowly climbs up to the top rope and it’s clear that his injured knee is making it difficult. Jushin Liger collapses to the canvas out of exhaustion as he tries to pull himself up and Delfin flies off and connects with a flying elbow drop!! Delfin stays on top for the cover and gets the 1-2-3!!! THE CINDERELLA STORY CONTINUES AS SUPER DELFIN ADVANCES TO THE FINALS!!!! WINNER: SUPER DELFIN 2) REY MYSTERIO JR. V WILD PEGASUS: Rey Mysterio motions for Wild Pegasus to meet him in the center of the ring and they go face to face. Pegasus has a big grin on his face and he proceeds to slap Rey Mysterio right on the kisser. Mysterio then kicks Pegasus in the gut and sends him into the corner, where he lays into his opponent with a huge dropkick. Mysterio hip-tosses Pegasus out of the corner and connects with a senton splash and then drops an elbow on the back of Pegasus’s neck. Mysterio goes for a second knee drop, but Pegasus moves out of the way and then catches Rey Mysterio with a brutal knee lift as Rey gets to his feet. Pegasus then goes up to the second rope and connects with a leaping elbow smash, but it’s not enough to put away Mysterio. Wild Pegasus then goes for the pile-driver, but Mysterio blocks it and hurls Wild Pegasus into the corner. Pegasus slowly comes out of the corner, but Rey Mysterio pulls him in and drops him with a hurricanrana. Rey Mysterio proceeds to work on the neck of Wild Pegasus for a few minutes and goes to grab his shoulder, but Pegasus pulls him into a back slide for a near fall. Once they are bot back up, Wild Pegasus catches Rey Mysterio with a forearm to the chest and then signals for the pile-driver once again, but Mysterio blocks it for the second time. Rey changes the momentum and manages to plant Pegasus in a backdrop that slams him down on the mat. Mysterio goes up to and perches for the flying cross-body splash, but when he leaps off Pegasus dives out of the way and Rey crashes into the canvas. Pegasus is quickly over and makes the cover, but somehow Mysterio manages to kick out! Pegasus picks Mysterio up and hoists him into the air, holds him for for a few seconds, and then drops Rey into a brainbuster. Pegasus then lands one of his patented head-butts and makes the cover, but again Rey Mysterio kicked out! Pegasus is clearly growing frustrated here and now he lifts Rey up and connects with a snap suplex and then makes his way up to the second rope. Pegasus comes off and connects with a diving headbutt and this time it’s got be over, fans! Wild Pegasus makes the cover and referee the referee makes the count for the 1-2-NO! MYSTERIO KICKS OUT AGAIN!!! FANS, THE WCW WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPION WILD PEGASUS CANNOT PUT REY MYSTERIO DOWN TONIGHT!!! Pegasus is up now and he’s jawing with the referee and then looks down and kicks Rey Mysterio in the face. Pegasus then goes up to the second rope and he connects with a flying knee drop and immediately goes for the cover, BUT MYSTERIO KICKS OUT AGAIN!! REY MYSTERIO REFUSES TO STAY DOWN AT ALL COST!!! Pegasus is stunned and he stands up and stares down at Rey for a moment, before grabbing him by the mask to pull him up. Mysterio connects with a knee to the stomach and then a chop to the throat and down goes Wild Pegasus. Rey Mysterio slowly gets back to his feet and now he perches as the crowd goes nuts with cheers. Pegasus is up and Mysterio connects with a dropkick that knocks Benoit back into the corner. Mysterio runs in and leap-frogs Pegasus, propelling the Canadian star half way across the ring. Mysterio now climbs back to the top rope once again and he perches. Mysterio leaps off for the flying hurricanrana when Wild Pegasus gets up, but Pegasus reverses in midair and drives Rey into the mat with a sickening power-bomb! Benoit makes the cover and this time he gets the three count. Mysterio puts up a hell of an effort, but he just can’t top Wild Pegasus on this night. WINNER: WILD PEGASUS NON-TOURNAMENT MATCH 1) WCW World Women’s Champion Alundra Blayze (Madusa) vs. Aja Kong (w/ Tiger Ali Singh): Tenay and Da Meltz explain that Madusa became famous using the name ‘Alundra Blayze’ here in Japan and so she is wrestling under that moniker tonight as she faces of the most imposing women wrestlers of all time, Aja Kong. The much bigger Aja Kong dominates the early going here by using her power to literally throw Blayze around the ring. Kong hits the ropes full speed at one point and goes for a big avalanche into the corner, but Blayze moves out of the way the last second. Alundra Blayze uses this opportunity to land a series of kicks and she even knocks Kong to the canvas with a big enziguri kick. Alundra tries to keep Kong down by striking her with kicks and back-hands every time Aja tries to get up, but Kong eventually shoves her away. Alundra tries to apply her signature belly-to-back suplex, but Kong connects with a backhand. Aja follows it up with the devastating Uraken (spinning back-hand) that sends Blayze hurtling into the corner. Alundra wobbles up, gets kicked in the stomach and then dropped with the package pile-driver! Kong with the cover now and she gets the 1-2-3! Aja Kong has just won the WCW World Women’s Title and she’s done it in dominating fashion. Tiger Ali Singh is gleeful as he celebrates after the match. He goes to raise Aja Kong’s hand, but Kong scowls at him and holds up her belt. WINNER: NEW WCW WORLD WOMEN’S CHAMPION AJA KONG SUPER J CUP TOURNAMENT FINALS SPECIAL REFEREE: THE DYNAMITE KID 1) Wild Pegasus vs. Super Delfin: Dynamite Kid – sadly looking worse for wear - enters the ring first to a thunderous ovation from the crowd and he gets on the microphone and promises to call this match right down the middle. There’s a lot of history between Pegasus and Dynamite, and they jaw back and forth a little before Super Delfin comes out for this final tournament match. Wild Pegasus refuses to lock up with Super Delfin at the beginning and he demands that Dynamite Kid check Super Delfin for foreign objects. Once Dynamite Kid does so, Wild Pegasus says that he wasn't thorough enough and demands that Dynamite Kid check Super Delfin once again. Super Delfin charges towards Wild Pegasus, but the Wolverine rolls to the outside for a breather and then Delfin gives chase on the floor. Wild Pegasus rolls back into the ring and then begins stomping on Super Delfin as Super Delfin tries to roll back in himself. Wild Pegasus then drives a series of forearm strikes into the back of the neck of Super Delfin and then snap suplexes him into the center of the ring. Wild Pegasus then applies a side headlock, which looks like it's actually a choke, but he adjusts the move every time that Dynamite Kid checks it. Super Delfin begins to his fight his way back to his feet and he catches Wild Pegasus with a series of elbows to the stomach and the hold is broken. Super Delfin slowly gets to his feet and he waits for Benoit to recover. Once he does, Super Delfin comes off the ropes and goes for a cross-body block, but Wild Pegasus leaps up and dropkicks Super Delfin's mid-section. Wild Pegasus goes back to that side headlock and really wrenches back on it. Wild Pegasus uses his feet to hook the ropes for leverage when he gets the opportunity to do so, but he manages to unhook them each time Dynamite Kid checks. Eventually, Wild Pegasus releases the hold and showboats for a moment as the crowd boos. Wild Pegasus now has Super Delfin on his feet and he body-slams him in the center of the ring and he's going for an elbow drop. Wild Pegasus bounces off the ropes and goes for a head-butt, but Super Delfin manages to roll out of the way at the last second. Super Delfin gets back to his feet and he manages to nail Wild Pegasus with a series of right hands and then hooks his arms around Wild Pegasus's waist. He pops the hips and drives Wild Pegasus into the canvas with a belly-to-belly release suplex. Super Delfin then connects with the rolling neck snap and goes up to the top rope. Delfin goes for a big diving senton, but Wild Pegasus manages to roll out of the way at the last second. Both men are down and Dynamite Kid begins administering the ten-count. It takes both men a while to get their feet because they tired themselves out in their previous matches, and Wild Pegasus staggers to his feet just after Dynamite Kid hit the eight count. Wild Pegasus sends Delfin off the ropes and catches him with a big knee to the stomach that sends Super Delfin into a front-flip style tumble. Wild Pegasus connects with a falling head-butt and makes the cover, but Delfin kicks out at two. Wild Pegasus gets to his feet and he signals for the end and it looks like he's going for something here. He shoots Delfin off the ropes, catches Delfin, but Super Delfin somehow changes the momentum and turns it into a monkey-flip, which wows the crowd! Wild Pegasus is right back up and Super Delfin catches him in a flying head-scissors. Delfin now goes off the ropes as Wild Pegasus slowly gets to his feet and goes for a cross-body block again, but Wild Pegasus catches him and drops him neck-first across the top rope in a Hot Shot!! Wild Pegasus makes the cover and Dynamite Kid makes the count for the 1-2-NO!! NO!! SUPER DELFIN GETS HIS SHOULDER UP AT THE LAST POSSIBLE SECOND!! Wild Pegasus has a look of pure shock on his face and slaps his hands against his mat in frustration, before getting up and kicking Super Delfin hard in the ribs twice. Wild Pegasus pulls Super Delfin up and it looks like he's going for a snap suplex, but somehow Delfin slips out and drops Wild Pegasus in the Osaka Street Cutter! HE HIT HIM! Delfin goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-NO! BENOIT KICKS OUT OF THE CUTTER – THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!!!!! Both men are down for a few moments, but Delfin pulls himself up using seemingly every last bit of strength in his tired boedy. Super Delfin now pulls Wild Pegasus up and drops him with a second German release suplex and makes the cover once again for the 1-2-3-NO! WILD PEGASUS SLIDES HIS RIGHT SHOULDER UP JUST BEFORE DYNAMITE KID’S HAND HITS THE MAT!! Now it's Super Delfin who has a look of shock etched across his face. Delfin picks Wild Pegasus up and sets him up for a backbreaker, but Wild Pegasus tries to fight it off! Wild Pegasus tries to hook Delfin into a DDT, but Super Delfin puts the breaks on and drives Wild Pegasus into the mat with a back-drop of sorts and it looks like it's knocked the wind out of the Wolverine. Super Delfin now slowly mounts the top rope, but Pegasus is right up and he decks Delfin. Pegasus now pulls Super Delfin in and lifts him off into a super-plex…. NO!! NO!!! SUPER DELFIN REVERSES THE TIDE IN MIDAIR AND HE CONNECTS… WITH THE OSASKA STREET CUTTER!!! IN THE WORDS OF A MINOR LEAGUE ANNOUNCER… “OH MY GOD!!!!!!!’ Both men are obliterated here, but slowly, Delfin raises his arm up and he drapes it over Pegasus’s chest. DYNAMITE KID WITH THE COUNT NOW: 1…………… 2………….. 3!!!!!!!! SUPER DELFIN DID IT!!!!! HE HAS WON THE SUPER J CUP!!!!!! WINNER: SUPER DELFIN *After the match, Dynamite Kid helps Super Delfin up to his feet as Wild Pegasus rolls out to the floor. We have quite a scene as all of the eliminated competitors come out here and they are congratulating Super Delfin! This is one hell of a cinderalla story – the young wrestler left his home for American to become a man and he has come back a champion! Ultimo Dragon and Jushin Liger hoist Super Delfin up onto their shoulders and parade him around the ring as The Dynamite Kid does a ceremonial bow as a sign of respect. Hold the phones – Wild Pegasus has stormed back into the ring and he spins Delfin around as Liger and Ultimo are presenting him with the winner’s trophy. There is an intense stare-down and Benoit rips the trophy away from Ulimto! Wild Pegasus stares at the trophy for a second and… then hands it over to Super Delfin! Pegasus pats Super Delfin on the shoulder in a sign of respect. What a night this has been fans – Super Delfin has triumphed in the Super J Cup tournament! *We are now taken back to the studio where Mr. Dirt Sheet and Mike Tenay are standing by to wrap up the night’s action. They discuss all of the results and especially some of the upsets. Both Da Meltz and Tenay say that tonight has made Super Delfin’s career – not just here in Japan, but around the world. A global star has been born tonight in Tokyo. Da Meltz and Tenay thank the fans for shelling $50 to listen their snarky comments and then urge us to continue following WCW, which is where the big boys play as well know… © WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING & NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING, 1995
WCW Monday Nitro 3/26/1995 Montreal, Quebec, Canada Live on TBS Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay open the very first edition of WCW Monday Nitro and remind fans that this week the first round of the WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament will come to an end. Plus, we will see Rey Mysterio Jr. take on Juventud Guerrera - and WCW President Ric Flair has given these two the main event slot this week. The WCW World Heavyweight Title tournament opened up this week’s program as Flyin’ Brian Pillman takes on The Giant. Pillman was granted entrance into this tournament provided that he agrees to leave WCW if he loses. The Taskmaster is in The Giant’s corner as always and cheers as his monster destroys Pillman once again from bell to bell. Pillman lands a series of kicks to the knee and then bounces off the ropes with a cross-body, but The Giant catches him and power-slams him. The big man then connects with the choke-slam to score the pin to advance! Kevin Sullivan gets the last laugh in his feud with Brian Pillman by driving him out of WCW for good. Alex Wright is interviewed after the match and he tells Dave Brown that he still has things to settle with the Wolfpack, but first he wants a shot at Buff Bagwell. This brings out Bagwell, who says that Alex Wright may have been a hot shot in German but that means nothing. Bagwell says he’s better looking than Wright, he’s lots more muscles and he’s a better wrestler so he accepts the match for WCW Uncensored. Buff Bagwell then goes for his pose in the middle of the ring, but Wright connects with a dropkick to his back to knock Bagwell out to the floor. The WCW United States Heavyweight Title is on the line as Scott “Flash” Norton defends against Dirty Dick Slater, who is accompanied by Col. Robert Parker. Norton and Slater brawl early on with Dirty Dick getting a good foothold with some stomps and strikes. The problems arise when he goes for a brainbuster, but Norton simply drives backwards into the corner. Slater stumbles out of the corner and walks right into a Flashbreaker. Col. Parker tries to get on the apron, but Norton decks him and covers for the pin. WCW President Ric Flair and his enforcer Chris Benoit come out and Flair mentions how successful The Flair Administration already is. Flair reveals that The Administration will be growing and there might just be an announcement on that next week. Flair then says he fully believes Chris Benoit will win the WCW World Heavyweight Title, but he’s promised Benoit that he will in any influence the events. Benoit then gets on the microphone and says right her next week he will take on the Wolfpack’s Kevin Nash. Flair has an agreement with Nash, but Benoit says he doesn’t have that same agreement so he will take the big man down next week. Flair then raises Benoit’s hand, as the camera pans up and once again we see someone standing in the rafters. Flair flips out and orders security to go get the man, but the mysterious figure clad in black walks away before anything can be done. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Kimberly) makes his WCW debut with a victory over Jim Powers thanks to the Diamond Cutter. Page tells Dave Brown after the match that he’s here in WCW for one reason and that’s to settle things with the Wolfpack. This brings out Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, who stand in the aisle. Nash tells Page that he should have learned a lesson “in the minor league” and never should have shown up here in WCW. Kevin Nash warns DDP that he better turn around and leave WCW or Nash will send him out in a body bag. DDP laughs at that and says he’s here to stay. Page also warns Kevin Nash and Scott Hall that they are going to need eyes in the backs of their heads. Dave Brown announces that Aja Kong won the WCW World Women’s Championship from Madusa in Japan. He then brings out Madusa, who is dejected about the loss. She says she is determined to get the belt back even if that means working her way back up the ladder. Playboy Gary Hart then makes his way out with Bull Nakano and says Bull should be champion right now because she weakened Madusa two weeks ago here on WCW Monday Nitro. Madusa says if Bull Nakano wants a match with her – she can have that match two weeks from tonight here on WCW Monday Nitro. The two women go nose-to-nose, until Gary Hart pulls Bull Nakano away. The WCW World Heavyweight Title’s first round comes to an end as Ice Train takes on his arch-enemy Avalanche. These two brawl for most of this contest with Avalanche targeting Ice Train’s injured ribs. Avalanche showboats before going for the running splash, allowing Ice Train to move out of the way just in time! Ice Train then rocks Avalanche with a clothesline and even slams the big man! Ice Train hits the ropes and connects with a double knee drop and he makes the cover for three count! Ice Train advances in the tournament and gets a huge win over his arch-enemy. Gary Hart was back out with his team out of Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi and he touted them as the team of the 1990s. Hart tells Dave Brown that Kobashi’s Burning Hammer is the most dangerous move in wrestling and it has even run Lance Storm out of the sport. That turns out not to be true as Lance Storm makes his first appearance on WCW TV in weeks as he charges the ring. Lance tells Dave Brown that he trusted Kobashi, but Kenta proved he was an untrustworthy SOB when he stabbed him in the back. Hart responds that the mistake Lance made was trusting Kobashi in the first place – that was a fatal error. Storm says Hart may be right, but he wants to get both of them right here on WCW Monday Nitro to show them the big mistake they've made. Gary Hart laughs and says Lance Storm can have the match, but nobody will team with him. Storm say it’s true that there were not a lot of takers, but there was one from the Kobashi and Misawa’s homeland of Japan. Storm says his first partner next week will be the man who has wrestled the most violent matches ever – Kintaro Kanemura! Kobashi and Misawa share a look on concern as Gary Hart tries to get out of the match. Storm says he brought a long a Kanemura’s highlight video to let everyone know what Misawa and Kobashi are in for next week. WCW World Tag Team Champions Rick & Scott Steiner have their first tag team title defense against the former AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo Del Santo and Octagon. The smaller luchadors struggle early on against the powerful Steiners, but eventually use their speed to gain the advantage. Octagon even manages to land a suicide dive on both Steiners on the floor, but it seems to do as much damage to him as to his opponents. Rick Steiner then rolls Octagon into the ring and goes for a Steiner-line, but Octagon ducks it and connects with a spinning wheel kick. Octagon then goes up top, but he struggles with his footing. The Dog-Faced Gremlin is up in time and he belly-to-belly suplexes him off the top rope. Rick Steiner makes the cover and gets the big win for a successful title defense! Mike Tenay then brings out Super Delfin, who triumphed last week over the likes of Ultimo Dragon and Jushin Thunder Liger to win the Super J Cup. Delfin is the presented with a trophy and in broken English thanks the fans. Tenay then announces that Super Delfin will put the WCW World Cruiserweight Title on the line at WCW Uncensored against one of the biggest stars from Mexico – Vampiro! We then get a special VTR showing Vampiro in action against Disco Inferno in the AAA promotion. We go back to the ring where Super Delfin, again in broken English, says he’s proud to represent WCW and proud to be defending the gold against Vampiro at WCW Uncensored. The crowd give Super Delfin a nice ovation as he is officially handed the Super J Cup trophy by Mike Tenay. Tonight’s main event features a battle of young stars as Juventud Guerrera takes on his arch-enemy Rey Mysterio Jr. Psychosis stands in Juventud Guerrera’s corner, while Rey Mysterio is joined by his tag team partner Billy Kidman. This is your typical awesome Guerrera-Mysterio match and it’s given the spotlight this week as the main event. The finish sees Mysterio come off the top ropes with a flying leg drop, but Psychosis rolls into the ring to break up the pin. Billy Kidman is right there and he dropkicks Psychosis before the masked man is able to attack Mysterio. Kidman lays into Psychosis, who eventually shoves Billy away and causes him to knock into Mysterio! Guerrera then levels Kidman with a flying head-scissors. Mysterio tries to rebound, but he gets a boot to the gut and a Juvi Driver! Guerrera makes the cover and he gets the big win! Psychosis and Juventud Guerrera move the momentum in their favor heading into the tag team match at WCW Uncensored. WCW Monday Nitro goes off the air with Mysterio and Kidman once again arguing in the ring. WCW Saturday Night 3/31/1995 Atlanta, GA Scott Hall pinned Super Calo with the Razor’s Edge.
