The AWA presents:
United States Wrestling Association
“Championship Wrestling”
Channel Five Studios
Memphis, TN
Air Date: July 14, 1995
Broadcast Team: Lance Russell & Dave Brown
Ring Announcer: Corey Macklin
Referees: Jerry Calhoun & Frank Morrell*The opening video fades into the studio where the camera pans the audience and then sends us over to LANCE RUSSELL and DAVE BROWN! They show highlights from the last Mid-South Coliseum show, including: Sycho Sid winning the USWA World Heavyweight Title from Tracy Smothers, referee Brian Hilderbrand cheating PG-13 out of their match against The Heavenly Bodies, clips from the four tournament matches and Austin Idol laying out Earthquake with a steel chair. Lance and Dave are not 30 seconds into their introduction when Bob Armstrong comes ranting and raving into the studio with Tracy Smothers. Both men are complaining to the high heavens about being robbed of the USWA World Title and are demanding a rematch immediately. Lance and Dave can’t even get a word in as Bob Armstrong filibusters and says he is sick and damn tired of being screwed around by Randy Hales, by Jerry Jarrett, by Eddie Marlin, by Guy Coffey and even by Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Armstrong vows not to leave the studio until Tracy Smothers is granted his rightful rematch against Sycho Sid.
*Bob Armstrong and Tracy Smothers don’t have to wait long as Sycho Sid makes his way into the studio with a big smile on his face. Sid says the gold is back around the wait of not just A man, but THE MAN. If Tracy Smothers wants a rematch so bad, Sid is happy to give him one. The one caveat is that he doesn’t want to wait until this Tuesday night, he wants to do it right here on Championship Wrestling this evening! Bob and Tracy try to back-peddle, but Sycho Sid mocks them for being cowards for not taking the fight. Smothers gets fired up and says he will take the match and he will embarrass Sycho Sid in front of all the people watching. An exasperated Randy Hales is out and Lance questions him on if we can put a match together in this short a period of time. Hales says since both sides want it, he will allow the match to take place in the next segment. Hales warns Bob Armstrong not to pull any funny business like he did with PG-13 because the full championship committee are here today and they will be observing everything. Bob Armstrong assures Randy that he has nothing to worry about and the parties disperse.
Louie Spicolli vs. David Cash: Lance and Dave talk up Spicolli’s recent success in the GWF as well as the NWA and Russell mentions that many people see him as the most promising young wrestler in the game. Louie is confident as ever as he works over David Cash, but Cash refuses to stay down. Spicolli toys with Cash a bit and even pulls David up on two occasions where he likely had the win in hand.
The finish of the contest sees Spicolli land a running power-slam on Cash and go for the cover, only to once again pull Cash up. Spicolli then points to the top rope and goes up top for a flying leg drop, but Cash moves. Louie pops back up and he is hopping around the ring in pain. Cash sneaks up behind him with a roll-up to score the three count! This got to be considered an upset fans! WINNER: DAVID CASH
*David Cash is congratulated by the fans around the ring following the match, while the camera pans to a stunned Louie Spicolli in the ring. Lance and Dave congratulate Cash on the big win and David says it’s just further proof that he might not be the biggest wrestler, but he shouldn’t be underestimated. A furious Louie Spicolli now approaches the desk and asks just what David Cash thinks he’s doing try to upstage him! Cash goes to answer, but Spicolli cuts him off and says that there is a pecking order in this sport and trash like David Cash are at the bottom of it. Spicolli then asks, no demands a rematch for this Tuesday night so he can show the world that the true prodigy of professional wrestling is Louie Spicolli! Cash laughs and replies that he will be happy to beat Louie again this Monday night. Louie throws a fit and goes for a swing, but Cash ducks and comes back at him. Spicolli scurries off in a huff as Cash shares a laugh with Lance Russell and Dave Brown.

*Jimmy Hart is out after the break with three members of his First Family: Tommy Rich, Koko Ware and Bill Dundee. Hart says Tuesday night didn’t go entirely planned and he will be back later with Earthquake to discuss the ‘Universal Under-Achiever Austin Idol’. Jimmy made his goal clear that he wants Jerry Lawler out of this sport and he knows Bill Dundee can make that happen since Dundee will beat Buddy Landel this week. Jimmy says he has the finals of the tournament covered, Dundee will be there. But Jimmy says there is an opportunity this Tuesday night for Jeffrey Jarrett to step out of the glory-hog King’s shadow and beat him in front of all these Memphis fans. Hart says he is going to make a one time offer to Jeffrey Jarrett – if Jarrett gets by Lawler this week or renders The King unable to compete otherwise, he will pay Jeff $1,000! Hart says the offer is on the table and he thinks Jeffrey Jarrett should give it some serious consideration. Lance and Dave scoff at Jimmy’s bounty, but Hart says money will make a man do crazy things. Now, as for Brian Christopher, he is going to find out who the real ‘sexy man’ here in the USWA is this week when he faces the ‘luscious one’ Tommy Rich! The First Family walk off as Bill Dundee stops by the microphone and says Buddy Landel is in for a world of disappointment this week. The comeback is over!
USWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Sycho Sid vs. Tracy Smothers: Bob Armstrong is of course in Smothers’ corner for this championship match. Smothers stalls in the opening moments, but Sid finally gets a hold of Tracy and bashes him with those overhead forearm strikes across the back! Sid connects with the big boot and he covers, but Tracy kicks out of that one! Sid is back on his feet, but Smothers lands a questionably low blow and takes control. Smothers rakes the eyes, chokes Sid with the ropes and stomps away in attempts to get Big Sid down on the canvas. Smothers finally succeeds, but he misses the follow-up leg drop when Sid moves out of the way!
Sycho Sid is back up now and just as Smothers turns around, Sid grips him by the throat! Choke slam for Tracy Smothers! Sycho Sid goes for the cover, but there’s Bob Armstrong on the apron arguing with the referee. Sid gets up and goes over to confront Armstrong, but The Dirty White Boy is out and he pulls Armstrong off the apron and decks him! Smothers is back up and goes to lower the boom on Sid, but the champion sees it coming and boots Tracy! He then hoists Smothers up into the air and decimates him with the power-bomb! Sycho Sid with the for the 1-2-3! Sid retains the gold! Sycho Sid celebrates on the floor with The Dirty White Boy, while Bob Armstrong has to drag a groggy Tracy Smothers out of the ring. WINNER: USWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION SYCHO SID
*Lance Russell and Dave Brown are discussing the Southern Heavyweight Title tournament and showing clips from Tuesday’s matches, when they are interrupted by Tony Falk! Lance admonishes Falk for interrupting the show, but Falk said he has got a real problem with the USWA Championship Committee! Falk says he has seen Tracy Smothers get shots at the World Title. He’s seen Terry Gordy getting shots at the World Title. Tony wants to know why these guys are getting bumped up the ladder ahead of him? Lance chuckles and asks if Tony really wants an answer to that question, which only angers Falk further. Falk issues a challenge to Sycho Sid to face him this Tuesday night at the Mid-South Coliseum “if the big dummy has the guts”! Tony walks off in a huff as Lance Russell jokes to Dave Brown that Falk is about as likely to get a title shot this Tuesday as the late Gorgeous George is! Dave and Lance then send us to a special look back at the career of Jerry “The King” Lawler!

*Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jeff Jarrett are out here after the commercial break to discuss their match in the Southern Heavyweight Title tournament. Lawler heard Jimmy Hart out here earlier and he wants to let Jimmy know that unlike Hart, The King CAN trust his close associates like Jeff Jarrett and Brian Christopher. Lawler says he will not take it easy on Jeff Jarrett in that ring on Tuesday and he expects the exact same treatment from Jeff! Jarrett agrees with Lawler and says he certainly doesn’t have any interest on collecting a bounty from scum like Jimmy Hart. When he defeats Jerry Lawler, he will do it out of the natural spirit of competition and certainly NOT for a bounty. Lawler chuckles at Jarrett’s comments and asks quizzically: “When? You said WHEN, Jeff.” Jarrett tries to clarify, but Lawler pats him on the shoulder and says he is perfectly fine with Jarrett believing he is going to win. He wants Jeff to bring it on this Tuesday to win the match – The King just hopes Jarrett doesn’t get too discouraged when he ends up counting the lights! Jarrett cracks a smile himself and answers: “Touché!” Lawler and Jarrett shake hands and walk off as our next competitors enter the ring.
Well Dunn vs. Shane Helms & Shannon Moore: The very impressive duo of Timothy Well and Steven Dunn get in some ring time ahead of their title match against The Heavenly Bodies this Tuesday. Dunn handles most of the ringwork and he wows the fans in the studio with his aerial maneuvers as well as his ability to take things to the mat when necessary. The finish sees Moore miss a clothesline, only for Dunn to catch him with the flying forearm to score the pin-fall victory. WINNERS: WELL DUNN
*PG-13 are out at the desk after the match and they don’t look entirely pleased. JC Ice looks about ready to snap here, but Wolfie D calms him down. Wolfie says Jamie is noticeably upset since PG-13 were screwed out of the belts they had just won back and were then screwed again. Wolfie asks Randy Hales to come out so they can make this whole situation right. Randy Hales is out and already he is shaking his head. Wolfie says he knows Randy was upset at what Bob Armstrong pulled so he is sure that Hales has got PG-13 a rematch. Hales apologizes for all that has gone on – he truly believed he had solved the problem with his referee rule last week. However, Brian Hilderbrand was a legal USWA official and the match result stands. Randy quickly clarifies that he has since fired Hilderbrand, but that doesn’t change the result. Wolfie is calm as he answers that’s fine, all he and Jamie want is another shot at the belts. Hales sheepishly admits he can’t make that happen yet. Unfortunately, PG-13 had their rematch and now they have to work their way back up into contention. JC Ice is furious and can be heard screaming: “It’s your damn fault, Randy!” Wolfie tries to calm JC down and then turns around and says surely Randy can bend the rules in light of what happened. Hales apologizes but says he can’t do that – PG-13 will have to work their way back up the ladder! Hales walks away as Wolfie D throws up his hands in frustration, while JC Ice angrily roams around behind the desk as we go to break.

*A furious Bob Armstrong and Tracy Smothers are back out here as we come back and they are again ranting and raving. Armstrong wants another match with Sycho Sid for Tracy, since Tony Anthony got involved. Lance reminds Bob that the DWB only got involved because Armstrong was trying to interfere. The Dirty White Boy is out now and he has a smile on his face. Anthony says if Bob Armstrong is upset, why doesn’t he just let Tracy take it out on the old DWB this Tuesday night. Armstrong shouts back that he wants a title match for Tracy and that is all he will negotiate right now! Randy Hales is back out - he's a busy man this week- and he says just like he told PG-13, Smothers doesn’t get another title match this week because he just lost his rematch. Bob Armstrong throws off his jacket at this point and says he’s had enough of the crooked antics of Randy Hales! Bob says he wants Randy in the ring this week at the Mid-South Coliseum! Armstrong says he will do anything to get Randy Hales in the ring at the Coliseum!
*Randy Hales answers that there is no way he will get in the ring – he is not a wrestler for crying out loud! Bob shoots back that he said he will do ANYTHING to get Randy Hales in the ring and he means that! Anthony then pulls Randy aside and talks to him for a minute as Bob Armstrong and Tracy Smothers stew. Hales comes back and says after some discussion, a match could possibly happen. Randy says he will agree to a match where he teams with the Dirty White Boy against Bob Armstrong and Tracy Smothers with the following stipulations. If Armstrong and Smothers win, Smothers will be granted a rematch for the USWA World Title against Sycho Sid. Armstrong immediately agrees to the match – but Hales says there is another stipulation. Bob doesn’t care – he tells Randy that the match is on no matter the other stipulation. Hales does that weird "All right, all right" thing he did often and then announces that the match is on. Now, let him finish the stipulation. If Hales and the White Boy win, Bob Armstrong and Tracy Smothers have to LEAVE THE USWA! Armstrong and Smothers go berserk, but there’s nothing they can do now! The Dirty White Boy and Randy Hales gloat as Armstrong shouts that he will maim Randy Hales this Tuesday night!
Jeff Jarrett vs. Tony Williams: Williams attacks Jarrett as Jeff enters the ring, but is soon thwarted in his attempts to gain control. Jeff works over Williams from bell to bell and really manages to impress the crowd with his suplexes and slams. The closing moments see Jarrett good-naturedly send a message to The King by pulling down the strap and then going up to the second rope for the fist drop. Jarrett covers and gets the academic three count! WINNER: JEFF JARRETT
*USWA World Heavyweight Champion Sycho Sid is out after the match to talk to Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Sid says he was a little busy earlier, but he heard Tony Falk of all people asking for a title match? The big man asks for Tony Falk to come out and challenge him to his face. Falk is out after a few seconds and he is on his best behavior. Sid says he heard Falk had something to say. Tony is much less braggadocios in the presence of Sid, but says he believes he has warranted a title match given all his recent wins. Sid laughs in his face and asks just who Tony has beat recently? Falk says he has earned wins over the likes of The Gambler, Shannon Moore, TD Steele and Tony Williams – all very tough contenders! Lance Russell chimes in and mentions that he’s not even sure all of those are true! Sid is just smiling as he tells Falk that there’s only ONE THING that Tony Falk is famous for here in the USWA. The champion laughs and cryptically notes that Falks knows EXACTLY what he is talking about! Falk seems to go cold here and says there’s no need to talk about that. Sid laughs and says Tony is right – why TALK about it when they can SHOW it? Sid then tells Guy Coffey to cue up a special VTR from a few years back.
Memphis Wrestling: Boy Tony*We go back to the studio as the audience, Lance Russell, Dave Brown, Corey Macklin and Sycho Sid are all laughing hysterically. Falk is red with embarrassment and now he snaps! Falk gets right in Sid’s face and insists that he is not a JOKE! Falk says he is a great wrestler and more than that he is a MAN! Sid: “Not according to that video, you’re not!” Falk then slaps Sycho Sid across the face! Sid whips his head around and Falk is already running across the studio. Sycho Sid then walks back over to the desk as Tony Falk disappears through the curtains and says if Tony Falk has some sort of death-wish, then Sid is happy to be the executioner! Sid is asking Randy Hales to sign the match for this week. The champion says this good for Falk because after this Tuesday, he won’t be known for being Boy Tony anymore. Falk will be now known for being the guy who got his neck broken by Sycho Sid! The USWA World Champion stares menacingly into the camera as Lance Russell and Dave Brown send us to break.

*VTR: Earthquake and his manager Jimmy Hart are standing by backstage at the Mid-South Coliseum. Quake has fresh blood running down his forehead after being struck by a chair by Auston Idol. Earthquake says Idol must think he is a real tough men having to use a chair to knock him down. However, Idol made a huge mistake. Earthquake says Idol should have killed him if he wanted to go this way because there is no way Austin will make it out of this now. Idol may have knocked him down, but he didn’t make sure Earthquake stayed down. Earthquake is back up now and he is going to make it his life’s goal to wipe Austin Idol from this sport forever. Idol has revenge coming his way – revenge so seismic that it would rock the Richter scale! Jimmy Hart tells Idol that he’s finally done it – he’s finally written a check his butt can’t cash. When Idol gets back from his little summer vacation, he has one big, angry Earthquake waiting for him! Hart cackles as the scene fades out.
*The music of the Nation of Domination is playing as we come back, bringing Reggie B. Fine, D-Lo Brown and Kama Mustafa into the studio. However, they are not alone because leading them out this week is none other than Miss Texas! Dave Brown is perplexed and asks what she is doing with the Nation, considering she has been a favorite of the fans for years. Miss Texas corrects Dave Brown and orders Dave never to call her by that name again. She is a fine Nubian woman – her name is not Miss Texas, her name is Queen Shaniqua. And together with Kama Mustafa, D-Lo Brown and Rakim B. Fine, the Nation of Domination are getting ready for the arrival of their leader Faarooq! Dave asks who Rakim is? Reggie B. Fine answers and says that just like Queen Shaniqua, he has taken on a name from his people’s heritage. He is Rakim, but he is keeping the ‘B. Fine’ because there ain’t nobody finer! Dave asks when exactly we will be seeing this Faarooq that we've heard so much about. Queen Shaniqua tells Dave that Faarooq will be at the Mid-South Coliseum this week to face Ricky Steamboat. Queen Shaniqua then complains that her people are sick of being held down by old white men like Guy Coffey, like Eddie Marlin and like Jerry Jarrett! Faarooq has taught them to take what they want – by any means necessary! The Nation of Domination do their salute and then they head off to the dressing room.
Spellbinder vs. Tim Horner: A little bit of a styles clash here as the big man Spellbinder takes on the veteran technical whiz Horner. Spellbinder takes it to Horner early on and scores a near fall with a back-breaker. Horner rallies and scores a series of two counts with dropkicks and a running clothesline. The match eventually goes to a time limit draw just as Horner comes off the top rope with a flying splash. Horner and Spellbinder both want more time, but we have to sign off for the day. Corey Macklin tells Lance and Dave that he would like to get a rematch signed for next week. WINNER: TIME LIMIT DRAW
*Dave Brown and Lance Russell are about ready to sign off, when they are interrupted by Jim Cornette and the USWA World Tag Team Champions The Heavenly Bodies. Lance tells Jim that they weren’t expecting them today so there isn’t any time for them. Cornette assures Lance that the USWA will ALWAYS make time for the Heavenly Bodies. Cornette mocks PG-13 a little bit and then mentions that this week’s challengers Well Dunn are a great team, but they are not the Heavenly Bodies! Cornette says his Bodies have already proved they are the best wrestlers – on Tuesday, they will show that they can hurt their opponents. Cornette and The Bodies then comment as Lance Russell and Dave Brown show a preview of this Tuesday night’s card at the Mid-South Coliseum:
