Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome us to another edition of Championship Wrestling ’86. We see footage of the non-finish in the bout between CWA Heavyweight Champion Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Austin Idol. ‘The Kid is Hot Tonite’ by Loverboy begins playing in the studio as Austin Idol makes his way out to a big ovation from the studio audience. Idol shakes hands with Lance Russell and says he is here to expose the biggest fraud in professional wrestling. “All I hear from Jerry Lawler is that he’s a fighting champion – and yet all week he has refused to sign a contract for a rematch against the Idol,” the Universal Heartthrob tells Lance Russell. The fact of the matter, according to Idol, is that Lawler knew that his title was in more jeopardy than ever before last Monday and now he is too much of a coward to put the belt on the line again. Idol never thought he’d see the day where Lawler was a coward, but that day has come!
Jerry Lawler is out now to somewhat of a mixed reaction, which clearly annoys The King. Lawler tells Lance Russell that once again we have proof that when Austin Idol’s lips are moving – he’s lying. Jerry assures Lance Russell that he’ll put the title on the line against the top contender, but with that said Idol couldn’t get the job done last week. So, now Idol has to move to the back of the line and work his way back up. Idol rolls his eyes and says he remembers the day when calling Jerry Lawler out would fire The King up enough to start the fight right then and there. It’s very clear, Idol says, that The King is a changed man these days. Lawler snickers and tells Idol that he can try to hoodwink these people all he wants. Like he said last week, there’s a small portion of fans who buy into Idol’s garbage. Lawler will always have time for his true King fans, but for all the others – there might not be room when they want to jump back on The King’s bandwagon down the road.
However, Jerry Lawler does have a compromise of sorts for Idol. Since the fans clearly like seeing The King and Idol squaring off, he will agree to one more title match between himself and Austin. However, there are two stipulations. The first one is that there must be a winner in that match, so we can settle this and get it out of the way. Secondly, Idol has to agree that if he loses, he will not wrestle The King again one-on-one here in CWA for one year. It’s all or nothing, The King says. Idol smiles and explains that he’s from Las Vegas, he’s always been a gambler. So Idol will sign that contract. Eddie Marlin makes his way out and says he will work up that contract for a bout on June 1. However this Monday, Idol and Lawler will have to defend their CWA Tag Team Titles against the Dirty White Boy and the Dream Team. Lawler tells Idol not to get ahead of himself – he needs to keep his head in the game this Monday night! Idol tells King to do the same and then makes his way up to the ring.
Austin Idol defeated Keith Eric when he applied the Las Vegas Leglock for the submission at 3:21.
Downtown Bruno is out with Big Bubba, as Dave Brown remarks that we haven’t seen as much of them on Championship Wrestling ’86 in recent weeks. Bruno complains that the powers-that-be here in CWA are scared of Big Bubba – they’re scared of what he can do to his opponents in the ring. Downtown Bruno is sick and tired of having his man overlooked. Sometimes to make waves you have to rock the boat yourself! Downtown Bruno then issues a challenge to International Champion Wendell Cooley on behalf of Big Bubba for this Monday night.
If Cooley is as tough as all these “ham n’ eggers” think he is, Bruno says that the Wildcat will agree to put the belt on the line. Big Bubba warns Cooley to think long and hard about his decision. If Cooley agrees, it won’t just be the end of his title reign. It will be the end of his wrestling career!

Lance Russell and Dave Brown are a bit confused because they were just delivered a futuristic looking silver container during the break. Lance Russell opens it to find a floppy disc and a large purple cube. Russell mistakenly calls the floppy disc a “computer chip” a few times, before noting that the cube has the words has “Lazer Tron from:” on one side and on the reverse side it says: “The World Beyond”. Lance Russell and Dave Brown are confused and ask Randy Hales to take care of this stuff, before going on to announce a dynamite main event for later on. It will be CWA Light Heavyweight Champion ‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams defending against Brad Armstrong, the impressive youngster for Marietta, Georgia.
Paul E. Dangerously is out now to assure Lance Russell that his champion will send Brad on his way back to Marietta before the end of today’s show. Dangerously calls Brad Armstrong “a fine competitor”, but assures Russell that he will be the secret weapon in his client’s corner later on. Paul then brings out his newest Dangerous Alliance member Curt Hennig. Hennig boasts that he’s not just the best second-generation in this sport’s history – he’s also the best pure wrestler in the game today. Curt promises to teach his opponent Mike Jackson a hold or two in their upcoming match.
Curt Hennig (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) pinned Mike Jackson at 5:05 when he connected with a Fisherman’s Suplex and bridged it into a pinning combination for the academic three count.
Jeff Jarrett makes his way out to the studio to shake hands with the fans around the ringside area. Jeff explains to Lance Russell that Bill Dundee is off on a previously-arranged tour of Mexico over the next week, but he will be back here on Championship Wrestling ’86 next Saturday. However, Jeff is out here with a message for CWA Tag Team Champions Jerry Lawler and Austin Idol. Jarrett understands that those two men have a personal issue between them, but he advises them to put it behind them for at least one night on Monday.
The young competitor assures Lance Russell that not only are the Dream Machine and the Dirty White Boy a formidable tag team, they will also do absolutely anything to win. Jeff Jarrett tells Lawler and Idol to take it from his personal experience, their focus needs to be on this Monday’s tag team title match and not on their own rematch the following week. Jeff promises to keep a close eye on Monday’s match to make sure that The Dream Machine doesn’t pull off any of his usual funny business.

Brad Armstrong is out with Lance Russell to discuss his title match with CWA Light Heavyweight Champion ‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams later on. Brad knows that Chris Adams is as gifted an athlete as there is in the sport today. He’s had an iron grip on the CWA Light Heavyweight Championship, but Armstrong said he’s beaten his fair share of great champions in the past. He reminds Lance Russell that he defeated Ted Dibiase in Georgia for the National Title early in his career in what many called an upset. By the time he won that belt a second time from another veteran in The Spoiler, everyone knew that Brad Armstrong was no rookie fluke.
The challenger is expecting a grueling match with Chris Adams today, but he has never shied away from matches of that type. While Brad has never faced Adams in the ring before, he has spent the past week watching all of Adams’ title defenses on tape to scout the man. When the bell rings at the end of the match, Brad Armstrong fully believes that he will have his hand raised as the brand new CWA Light Heavyweight Champion. Armstrong thanks Lance Russell for the interview opportunity and then walks off the dressing room to continue his preparations.
Dirty Rhodes and ‘The Singing Cowboy’ Don Bass (w/ Boss Winders) defeated Memphis Vice (Jerry Bryant and Lou Winston) when Dirty Rhodes connected with a big elbow drop on Lou Winston to score the pin at 5:15.
Dutch Mantell is out with bandaged ribs to discuss being attacked last week by this massive fan who charged the ring. Mantell tells Dave Brown that it was very curious to him that this fan interfered just when it looked like Randy Rose was going to reveal his benefactor. The Dutchman watched the footage back and realized that he recognized this big man with the flames tattooed on his head. Mantell produces a copy of Pro Wrestling Illustrated and holds up a ‘Rookie of the Month’ profile from earlier this year. Mantell shows the fans that the rookie pictured is that massive fan from last week!
It turns out that this young man is named Bam Bam Bigelow and he recently broke into the profession out in Arizona. The more curious thing is that in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s profile, it is mentioned that Bigelow was a bounty hunter who was in jail twice, before deciding to become a professional wrestling. Lance Russell tells Dutch that he knew there was something funny about the whole situation. Dutch sends a message out to Bigelow and whoever is paying him – show up here next week and try to pull a sneak attack like that again! This time, Dutch is going to have Shoo Baby and he’ll be more than ready to use it. Mantell walks off as we go to commercial break.

Lance Russell and Dave Brown announce that Eddie Marlin reached International Champion ‘Wildcat’ Wendell Cooley earlier on, and Cooley has agreed to put the title on the line on Monday night against Big Bubba. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawer made his way back out to the studio before we get to the main event title match. Lawler is chuckling because so far we’ve seen Dutch Mantell pretending that he’s Sherlock Holmes, and then none other than Jeff Jarrett decided to offer The King advice! Imagine that, Lawler chuckles. Lance Russell tells Jerry that he’s being a little bit unfair here – Jeff Jarrett was just trying to relay his own experience with The Dream Machine and the Dirty White Boy.
Jerry Lawler makes it perfectly clear that he’s had more than enough of his own experience with the Dream Machine in recent months, so he has it covered. The King knows that Jeff’s heart is in the right place, but maybe it’s Lawler who should be the one offering advice. Jerry tells Jeff Jarrett to ditch Bill Dundee as his tag team partner if he know what’s good for him. Just like Austin Idol, it’s only a matter time before Dundee goes into business for himself and it will only lead to trouble for Jeff Jarrett. Lance Russell goes to continue the conversation, but Lawler cuts him off and tells Lance that he has a plane he needs to catch.
Brad Armstrong defeated CWA Light Heavyweight Champion ‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) at 14:11 to become the new champion at the culmination of a great match. This one was full of near falls and incredible athleticism. Paul E. Dangerously managed to trip up referee Paul Neighbors and sent the referee to the canvas. Adams grabbed Armstrong and held him for Paul E. Dangerously to bash Brad with that cellular phone! Paul wound up… but shockingly Shane Douglas hit the ring and threw the manager out to the floor! Chris Adams was stunned by these events and lunged at Douglas, but Armstrong caught from behind in an abdominal stretch and rolled into a pinning combination as Shane Douglas re-directed the referee to count the 1-2-3! Adams was immediately furious as Curt Hennig arrived to charge the ring, but soon enough in came Scott Armstrong, Johnny Rich, Tonga Kid and Tim Horner to run off the stunned Dangerous Alliance.
The celebration for new CWA Light Heavyweight Champion Brad Armstrong continued as the group made their way over to the desk. Brad thanked Shane Douglas for watching his back – even though he’s not sure why Shane did it! Lance Russell then announces that Brad has a tough first defense ahead on Monday night as he faces the former NWA Word Junior Heavyweight Champion Mando Guerrero! Brad has lots of respect for the Guerrero family, and he cannot think of a better opponent for his first title defense at the Mid South Coliseum.
Shane Douglas hangs back with Lance Russell and Dave Brown as the victory celebrations makes to the dressing room. Dave Brown admits that he is surprised to see Shane Douglas make a save like he did, given that he wasn’t exactly the nicest guy when he first showed up in CWA. Douglas wants to publicly apologize for his actions out here about six weeks go. Shane let a little success in other territories go to his head, and he was a real jerk to the fans and to the other wrestlers when he showed up in Memphis. Karma set him straight when he suffered a leg injury just in time for the Light Heavyweight Title tournament.
Shane says that an injury is what he deserved for his behavior, however Paul E. Dangerously and Chris Adams did sweep in and take his spot in that tournament and won the whole thing. Douglas has spent the last five weeks getting his leg back to full mobility and he is here in CWA again to show all the fans that he is ready, willing and able to work his way into contention for another title shot. However, this Monday night, he’d like nothing better than to step into the ring with Chris Adams one-on-one! A furious Paul E. Dangerously is back out and shouts that Shane has the match. Not only is going to defeat Shane this Monday, he is going to break that “injured stinkin’ leg”! Shane is ready for anything as Dangerously storms off once again.
We go back to Lance Russell and Dave Brown at ringside to wrap up today’s show.
