Jim Crockett Promotions Presents.....
National Championship Wrestling
Saturday March 5, 1994
Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, Spartanburg NC
Lee Marshall handled the ring introductions for the night.........
he started with welcoming everyone to Spartanburg, then introduced the first match of the evening........
Anthony Michaels vs. "The Beautiful Blonde" Stan Lee w/ Magnificant Mimi
Referee: Jack Doane
Michaels was fired up and got the crowd popping early with some nice dropkicks, but the young rule breaker Lee soon took control with various illegal tactics. He worked over Michaels and focused on his leg with a series of pain inducing holds. Late in the contest, Michaels rebounded, and had Lee on the run with some more fast paced moves. He went to the top rope and prepared to launch, but Mimi got on the apron and shook the top rope, causing Michaels to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. Lee took advantage by going over and climbing to the second rope and finishing off Anthony with a superplex for the pinfall.
Winner: Stan Lee by pinfall at 11:22
Lee Marshall then introduced Jim Crockett Jr. to the crowd. Crockett got a nice ovation as he welcomed everyone to the show. He said that it is his personal goal to bring back the great hard hitting wrestling action that his family is famous for here in the Carolinas. He again thanked everyone and urged them to keep an eye out for their next show, coming in a few weeks. He waved one last time before leaving the ring side area.
Billy Jack Haynes vs. Jackie Fulton
Referee: Jerry Calhoun
The two men started off with a nice technical back and forth match, but it eventually broke down into more of a brawl with Haynes getting the better of it. Fulton whiffed on a dropkick, and when he regained his footing, Haynes stepped in behind him and locked in a full nelson to which Fulton submitted. After the match, Haynes helped Fulton struggle to his feet and the two shook hands and then left together.
Winner: Billy Jack Haynes by submission at 9:03
Big Ron Studd vs. D-Lo Brown
Referee: Jack Doane
Studd was introduced as Big John Studd's protege, and billed as being 7'0" tall. He was quite impressive as he dominated his young opponent. He finished Brown off with a double handed chokeslam for the easy pin.
Winner: Big Ron Studd by pinfall at 5:11
The Party Patrol, Johnny & Davey Rich
vs.
The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Brad & Bryant Anderson
Referee: Jerry Cahoun
It was quite a tag team contest, as the experience of the Rich cousins overcame the youth of the Andersons in the early going. But The Anderson cousins proved they had learned a lot from their kin as they methodically went about working on the arm of Johnny Rich. They cut the ring in half and controlled the action for quite a while. When Johnny finally managed to tag in Davey, all four men ended up in the ring. While Jerry Calhoun ushered Bryant out of the ring, Brad picked up Davey for a body slam, but Johnny dropkicked his cousin in the back causing him to fall on top of Brad as Calhoun turned around and made the pinfall count.
Winners: The Party Patrol by pinfall at 16:36
"Dangerous" Devon Storm vs. Reckless Youth
Referee: Jack Doane
The two exchanged high flying and death defying moves for the entire contest, and it ended in a time limit draw after 15 minutes of action.
Winner: 15 Minute Time Limit Draw
Intermission
Grudge Match:
Jimmy Valiant vs. Manny Fernandez
Referee: Jerry Calhoun
Neither man looked like they should still be competitive in the squared circle, but the long burning hatred surfaced and they tore into each other like angry young men. It didn't take long for the blood to start flowing as Fernandez used an illegal object to open up Valiant. He would wait till the referee was where he couldn't see the action clearly, and then pull the object from his tights and blast Valiant with it. The people got behind Valiant though and he came roaring back....shucking and jiving and throwing rights and lefts at Fernandez. The action spilled to the floor where Valiant sent Manny headfirst into the post which drew blood from him as well. The action got back in the ring where Manny again pulled the object from his tights. he swung and missed as Valiant lifeted him up and dropped him with a big atomic drop. Fernandez hit the canvas hard and Valiant dropped an elbow on him for the winning pinfall.
Winner: Jimmy Valiant by pinfall at 10:00
It was announced before the next match, that the winner will face the winner of another contenders match in the near future to become the first NCW National Heavywieght Champion.
Don Muraco vs. Dan Severn
Referee: Jack Doane
The match was a brutal affair as Severn relied on his amateur background, and Muraco went with a power attack. The two men went at for a long while, but in the end, Severn caught Muraco with a belly to back suplex and briged up for the pinfall.
Winner: Dan Severn by pinfall at 15:41
Main Event: Tag Team Flag Match
To win You Must Capture Your Opponents Flag
Ivan & Vladimir Koloff
vs.
Sgt. Slaughter & Cpl. Kirshner
Referee: Jerry Calhoun
Calhoun had a very tough time as all four men started out brawling in this one, and the action never really settled down. The action spilled to the floor on several occassions, but the Russians finally took an advantage by nailing Sarge from behind with their ever present chain. They tried all they could think of to put him out, but couldnt manage it. They tried unsuccessfully to capture the flag, but Kirshner held them at bay. Finally, Sarge got a second wind and craked his opponents heads together. Kirshner was in now as well, and all four men battled. Ivan went for the chain, and swung for Sarge. He ducked, Ivan nailed Vladimir as Sarge lunged and grabbed the Russian flag from the corner to end the bout.
Winners: Sgt. Slaughter & Cpl. Kirshner by flag capture at 13:27.
Lee Marshall thanked everyone for attending, and reminded them to check their local papers for info on when and where to catch more NCW action.
