WCW NITRO
San Jose Arena
San Jose, CA
December 2, 1994
Announcers: Tony Schiavone Mike Tenay & “The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes
Ring Announcer: Lance Russell
Interviewer: Joe Pedicino
Referees: Danny Davis, Charles Robinson & Mickey Jay
*Tony Schiavone ”The Professor” Mike Tenay and “The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes welcome us to WCW Nitro, which is coming to you live from San Jose, CA. The three announces hype tonight’s show, which will feature two huge title rematches. First, we’ll have WCW World Television Champion Davey Boy Smith defending against Dave Taylor, who took the Bulldog to a time limit draw a few weeks ago. In our main event, the Can-Am Express get a chance to win back the WCW World Tag Team Titles from the Legion of Doom. Also, one of the top stars in professional wrestling today, Rick Martel, will make his WCW debut right here tonight on WCW Nitro. Schiavone mentions that tonight might just be the greatest night in the history of our sport with all the great action on the slate. Tony, Mike, and Dusty then send us to a special vignette featuring “Dr. Death” Steve Williams, who will be in action right here next week on WCW Nitro against Mankind…
Watch the video here:
*Before we go up to our ring, Mike Tenay predicts big things from Dr. Death in his return here to WCW after an absence of several years. Doc has spent the last few years wrestling extensively in Japan and many say that the already dominant Dr. Death has only gotten better since he last bulldozed the competition here in WCW in 1993. Tony then sends us to down to ring announcer Lance Russell for the WCW World Television Title match…
-1- WCW World Television Champion “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith pinned Dave Taylor at 10:11 when he drove Taylor into the canvas with a running power-slam. Taylor gets his rematch here, but this time Bulldog seemed more prepared and he used his power to gain the upperhand. When Taylor attempted a cross-body block, Davey caught him, hoisted Taylor up on to his shoulder and finished him off with the big running slam…
*WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Stan “The Lariat” Hansen is standing by backstage with Joe Pedicino. Hansen is walking back and forth, shouting at Pedicino not to waste his time. As Joe asks his first question, Hansen grabs the microphone away and shoves Pedicino away. Hansen says last week, he marched back into WCW after five years, took the US Title with ease and proved that there’s still no-one badder than The Lariat in the world of professional wrestling Stan says that Dustin Rhodes may have held the belt for over a year, but that mean nothing compared to what Hansen is going to do. Hansen promises that he will hold the WCW United States Championship until he’s beaten everyone in the WCW and then he’ll retire as the only undefeated champion in professional wrestling. If anyone has a problem with that, Hansen challenges them to come forward and try to prove him wrong. Stan pits some chewing tobacco right into the camera lens, throws the microphone down and stomps off…

*Joe Pedicino calls out WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair for an interview before our next match. The Nature Boy comes out to a huge reception and tells Pedicino that he’s ready for Shawn Michaels at the Clash of the Champions. Pedicino hypes that the two men will sign the contract for the match right here on WCW Nitro next week. Flair says he’ll be there will bells on because he is going to prove something at the Clash. Shawn Michaels thinks he is the next big thing in professional wrestling – he has little regard for the rules and he has an ego the size of Texas. Well, you can use that same description for Ric Flair. The difference, Flair says, is that the Nature Boy can do it all better than Shawn Michaels. Flair tells Shawn that he still has a lot to learn and that will become very clear at the Clash of the Champions. Flair: “Like I’ve always said, to be the man you have to beat the man. At the Clash in front of God and the world, I will prove that Ric Flair is still THE MAN in this sport, pal!” Flair lets out a “WOOOOOO” and then struts around the ramp a bit, before walking back through the curtain…
-2- The Bruise Brothers (Ron & Don Harris) defeated The Punisher & Jerry Flynn at 3:45 when the Harris brothers landed a double boot to Punisher’s face and then Ron covered for the pin. Ron and Don Harris made short work over their very large opponents here and looked incredibly dominant in the process. After the match, Jerry Flynn tried to karate kick Don Harris, but Don decked him with a right hand and then clotheslined Flynn out to the floor…
*VTR: We see clips of Meng forcing numerous opponents to submit or pass out to the Tongan Death Grip. The scenes of Meng applying the hold on Kensuke Saske, Jerry Flynn and others then switch to a shot of Shamrock snapping in the ring and pounding his chest with his first. That scene transitions into Shamrock applying his ankle-lock submission on the likes of Jeff Jarrett, Bobby Eaton and Buddy Landell and drawing near immediate submissions. Tony Schiavone’s voice is heard saying: “At the Clash of the Champions, two of the most violent athletes in the sport today collide in a match that can only end in a submission. Which one of these monsters will submit? Which one will tap out? Find out right here on TBS when the Clash of the Champions airs on December 23 at 7:05pm!” The vignette ends with a split screen of Meng and Shamrock applying their signature holds…

*JJ Dillon is out with Joe Pedicino at the top of the ramp as we come back from commercial. Dillon says he has two major matches to announce for the Clash of the Champions, emanating from the Cow Palace on December 23 right here on TBS. Since last week’s FMW tag team match was such a hit, WCW has extended it’s agreement with the Japanese promotion and will bring you the rivalry that has sold out arenas across Japan. There will be no count-outs, no disqualifications and no excuses when Masato Tanaka and Mike Awesome face off in a No Holds Barred match live on TBS! Plus, WCW Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko will defend his title against a young wrestler who has gone undefeated since arriving in WCW – Lance Storm! These two all-star bouts are on top of the WCW World Heavyweight Title bout between “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels and the submission match between Meng and Ken Shamrock. As he wraps up, Dillon reveals that he’s recently inked deals to bring several huge stars into WCW because this is where the big boys play. First is the great wrestler out of Montreal Canada – Rick Martel! Martel makes his way out and shakes hands with Dillon, before jogging down to the ring…
-3- Rick Martel defeated Koko B. Ware at 7:11 by forcing him to submit to the Boston Crab. Martel made his debut in WCW and looked to be at the very top of his game as worked over Koko’s back. Martel eventually was able to lock in his patented Boston Crab and force Koko to tap out…
*Joe Pedicino stepped into the ring after the match to get a word with Rick Martel. Rick Martel said that is one of the most exciting night of his career because he’s finally arrived in WCW, where the big boys play. Rick reminds the viewers that he is a former World Heavyweight Champion and he’s also a FUTURE World Heavyweight Champion because he’ll have his eyes on the upcoming Ric Flair-Shawn Michaels. Martel he’s been in the ring with both men before and he knows that they truly are two of the best wrestlers of all-time. However, Rick has beaten them both in the past and he will be looking to do so again here in World Championship Wrestling. Martel is looking forward to working his way up the ladder so he can be a World Champion again in 1995. Rick thanks Joe Pedicino for the interview time and then goes to shake hands with the fans around ringside...

*VTR: “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz and his manager Bill Alfonzo are standing in front a ‘Team Taz’ logo. Taz says he and Fonzie watched all the best cruiserweights in the world wrestle in one match and he admits he was impressed. However, that doesn’t mean everything he’s said about the cruiserweight division isn’t true. The cruiserweight division has now became Taz’s division and that means he owns the division. Next week, Taz will step into the ring against one of the greats from Mexico, Silver King. Taz promises to make an example of Silver King and choke him out in front of the world. He’ll do the same to each and every cruiserweight in his way until he gets to the WCW World Cruiserweight Title. Fonzie obnoxiously blows his whistle as Taz folds his arms against his chest and stares menacingly into the camera…
-4- Brian Pillman pinned Aguila at 6:11 after coming off the second rope with a double stomp onto the masked man’s stomach. Pillman clearly finished Aguila with an obvious nod to his archenemy Kevin Sullivan by using Sullivan’s finishing maneuver. After the match, Pillman perched and looked ready to attack Aguila as he got back to his feet, but Kevin Sullivan ran down to the ring. Just as Sullivan rolled into the ring, Pillman slipped to the outside and cackled hysterically as he jogged up the ramp…
*An angry Kevin Sullivan grabs the microphone and says he is sick and tired of playing mind games with Pillman. Sullivan says the normal rules of this sport clearly don’t apply to people like Pillman and himself so they need to settle this like they did in the old days. Kevin challenges Pillman to meet him at the Clash of the Champions in the middle of the ring with no rules, no ring bells and no referee. Sullivan wants a good old fashioned fight where the winner is determined by who gets the three count. The winner will be the one man who is able to walk away, while his opponent has to be carried. Sullivan says it’s the holiday season and all he wants for Christmas are Brian Pillman’s two front teeth. Sullivan notices Aguila is now pulling himself up, so Kevin runs over and kicks him in the head for good measure! So much for saving the guy from Brian Pillman! Kevin Sullivan then rolls out of the ring and power-walks back to the dressing room…

*Joe Pedicino is standing by with Shawn Michaels. Joe asks if things have been settled with the Million Dollar Man after last week’s confusion. Shawn tells Pedicino that as far as he’s concerned, everything is 100% settled. HBK wants to talk about Ric Flair because he heard Ric’s boasting earlier on. Michaels says he grew up idolizing Ric Flair, studying his every move and wanting to emulate everything about the Nature Boy. Flair inspired him to get into professional wrestling, but along the way something changed. Shawn realized a few years ago that he didn’t need to emulate Ric Flair anymore because he is better than Ric Flair. At the Clash of the Champions, we’re going to see a changing of the guard because there’s a new dirtiest player in the game and his name is “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. Michaels grins confidently as Joe Pedicino sends us back to Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes and Mike Tenay to call the next match…
-5- “The Canadian Crippler” Chris Benoit (w/ “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase & Virgil) pinned Steve Armstrong at 5:44 after coming off the top rope with a diving headbutt. Benoit attacked Armstrong before the bell even rang and systematically took him apart limb by limb. Benoit enjoyed dishing out the punishment, only finishing Steve Armstrong off when Dibiase looked at his watch and motioned that he wanted the match finished…
*Joe Pedicino steps into the ring to get an interview with Chris Benoit and The Million Dollar Man. Joe says Shawn Michaels seemed to indicate early on that any differences between himself at the Million Dollar Man have been worked out. Dibiase assures Pedicino that “all is well” and the Million Dollar Champion will prevail at the Clash of the Champions. The Million Dollar Man is here tonight to talk about Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko, the two athletes who will dominate WCW in the coming months and years. Benoit chimes in and says he’s already getting sick and tired of toying with the likes of Scott Armstrong. The Canadian Crippler demands JJ Dillon give him better competition or people are going to start getting hurt around here. Heck, either way people are going to start getting hurt, Benoit adds menacingly. Dibiase also predicts that Dean Malenko will be victorious at Clash of the Champions against Lance Storm and show “the kid” just how dangerous a Man of 1,000 Holds can be. Dibiase does his signature chuckle and the motions for Chris Benoit and Virgil to follow him to the dressing room…
**commercial break**
*Lance Storm is standing with Joe Pedicino before our main event to discuss his Clash of the Champions match against WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko. Storm knows this is the biggest opportunity of his career and he does not plan on blowing it. Lance says wrestling a Man of 1,000 Holds is very intimidating, but he might just know one or two holds that Dean Malenko hasn’t gotten around to yet. That could make all the difference in their match. Lance is going to study tapes of Malenko and test himself in the ring over the next few weeks so he’s as prepared as possible for Dean Malenko. Dean should make no mistake about it, Lance Storm will bring the fight to him like no-one else has yet here in WCW. Joe Pedinco hypes the match a little bit and then throws us to the ring for our main event on this edition of WCW Nitro…
-6- WCW World Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) (w/ Paul Ellering) defeated The Can-Am Express (Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon) at 12:34 when the LOD connected with the Doomsday Device on Doug Furnas and Hawk scored the pin. Furnas and Lafon make quick tags early to try to get a quick pin, but Hawk eventually drilled them both with a double clothesline on both Can-Ams and scored the hot tag! Animal came in and press-slammed both Can-Ams and then LOD quickly put away Doug Furnas with their trademark finishing maneuver...
*As the Legion of Doom celebrated their big win with Paul Ellering after the match, there was a big commotion and the camera panned to the entrance ramp to reveal…

*Fans, anything can happen here on WCW Nitro and it just has because The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) have shown up out of nowhere after a year-long absence in WCW. Knobbs grabs Lance Russell’s microphone and shouts that “the boys are back in town!” Brian says all these people may have wondered where they’ve been, but they haven't been around because they do not take well to being screwed over. Over a year ago, the Nasty Boys were screwed out of their WCW Tag Team Champions by the brass here at WCW, who have since been fired “for being freakin’ morons!” Well, now the Nasty Boys are back and they are going to take back what they never actually lost – the WCW World Tag Team Championship belts! The LOD don’t like that one bit and after a bit of a stand-off, the Nasties dive into the ring and begin brawling with Hawk and Animal! The four men brawl all over the ringside area, until JJ Dillon leads a contingent of WCW wrestlers and officials to break them up. We go to commercial as Jerry Sags is being held back by five wrestlers as he screams the Nasty Boys are going to take back what belongs to them…

*Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Dusty Rhodes wrap up this week’s edition of WCW Nitro. The Nasty Boys are back here in WCW and they have made quite a shocking first appearance. On next week’s program, we will see “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz going up against Mexico’s Silver King. Plus another double main event as WCW World Television Champion “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith defends against “Latin Lover” Al Perez and “Dr. Death” Steve Williams takes on Mankind in what should be quite a contest. All that and more when WCW Nitro airs live from the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim next Friday on TBS. Schiavone, Tenay and Rhodes wish the fans a good night and then sign off another action-packed episode of WCW Monday Nitro…
