MID-SOUTH WRESTLING
TV FOR WEEKEND OF MAY 17, 1985
TAPED MAY 14, 1985
IRISH MCNEIL BOY’S CLUB
SHREVEPORT, LA
ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS & COWBOY BILL WATTS
RING ANNOUNCER: BOYD PIERCE
REFEREES: Alfred Neely, Jerry Usher, Joel Armstrong
ROSS: Welcome to Mid South Wrestling. Cowboy, we have a big show this week. Michael Hayes will defend the North American Title against former World Junior Heavyweight Champion Nelson Royal.
WATTS: Nelson is very capable. He’s a man who gave Danny Hodge many of his toughest bouts when Hodge was World Junior Heavyweight Champion. Hayes might have his hands full here today! Also, we have a tag team match that could be a main event anywhere in the world as the Hacksaws, Duggan & Reed, wrestle Jumbo Tsurtua and the tough Texan, Stan Hansen! That should be a rugged, hard hitting match, Jim!
ROSS: Kevin Sullivan will make his debut against Mike Stark this week. Chavo Guerrero will wrestle Flyin’ Fred Curry. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell, along with the lovely Missy Hyatt, will wrestle here as well. Right now, a man who will introduce his new team is on his way to our announce position…Christopher Love!
Love struts to the announce desk, decked in a tuxedo with a pink sequined tie, pink sequined lapels on the jacket, and a pink sequined cumberbund. Love wears an engineer’s cap on his head. The big Cowboy looks like he may be nauseous!
ROSS: Your team is about to debut. Their opponents, veteran Tony Garea and his partner, Mexico’s El Dandy, are in the ring.
LOVE: Jim Ross, honey, the Summer of Love is about to begin! There have been so many marvelous teams: The Kangaroos, the Infernos, the Midnight Express, the Freebirds, but there has never been a more athletic, more exciting, and more gorgeous team than…………HOLLYWOOD JOHN TATUM AND RAVISHING RANDY ROSE……HOOOOOOOHOOOO! The LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE TRAAAAAAAAAIN! Hit that music, honey!
Here come Rose & Tatum in matching pink robes with railroad crossing logos on the backs. They strut to the ring with Love. Garea & Dandy are laughing out loud and Watts wonders out loud what has happened to the sport he loves. Once the bout starts, though, nobody is laughing! Tatum & Rose are a capable team! Garea holds his own, but Dandy eventually falls prey to an elbow by Rose from the middle turnbuckle. After the bout, the music strikes back up as Love and the Love Train literally form a train with Tatum as the engine and Love as the caboose! They parade around the ring for a few minutes. As they leave, Love stops at the desk and informs Watts & Ross that he is headed to Grizzly Smith’s office to negotiate a title match for his team!

Chavo Guerrero wrestles “Flyin” Fred Curry in an exciting scientific bout. Guerrero gets the pin after a German suplex. The two competitors shake hands before and after the match. Watts comments that the match is a breath of fresh air after the Love Train!

Kevin Sullivan comes out for his match with big Mike Stark. Sullivan has a black X painted in the middle of his forehead and his eyes roll back in his head as Boyd Pierce introduces him. Once the match starts, though, Sullivan is all business! He overcomes his size disadvantage and proceeds to take Stark apart! Sullivan scores a convincing win after using the double stomp to finish his opponent! After the bout, Sullivan appears to be concerned about his opponent. Sullivan talks to Stark, helps him to his feet and leads Stark to the dressing room.
ROSS: Joel Watts is standing by with Kevin Sullivan at this time.
Cut to the dressing room where Joel Watts is standing by with Sullivan.
JOEL: Kevin Sullivan, congratulations on a convincing win in your Mid South Wrestling debut. I also have to commend you for your display of sportsmanship after the match….
SULLIVAN: This is survival of the fittest! There is no sportsmanship! No compassion! I have come to Mid South to fufill the destiny Abbuda Dein has laid before me! I will raise an army of dark soldiers and we will usher in a new order upon Mid South! What you saw today was the first step in a master plan! Your father made the phone call! After your heroes are destroyed, Joel Watts, remind your father of that fact! He made the phone call! Tonight, while you are in your bed, sleeping, I will be climbing the mountain! At the summit, I will chew the betel nut and I will present a sacrifice to Abbuda Dein and I will be rewarded!
JOEL: The very strange comments of Kevin Sullivan…..

ROSS: Earlier today, the Hacksaws, Butch Reed & Mid South TV Champion Jim Duggan had these comments about their match today against two of the Mantell Corporation’s best: Stan Hansen & Jumbo Tsuruta!
VTR:
Duggan & Reed are standing in front of the Mid South logo.
DUGGAN: Ken Mantell, you sold JYD a bill of goods and turned him against all of his pals! Well, he’s gone! I ran him outta town! But you keep spending money and now you have the big Texan, Stan Hansen and Jumbo Tsuruta from Japan! They are two of the toughest in the world, but I have a partner who is just as big, just as mean, just as tough, and just as strong!
REED: Hansen and Tsuruta! I know that Mantell is throwing thousands of dollars at you two, but all the money in the world won’t help you against Duggan and me! Mantell, I’ve listened to jerks like you in the past, but I’m a changed man now! Hacksaw Duggan and myself are going to take it to your team and we won’t stop until we put you down for the 1-2-3!
Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Hacksaw Butch Reed tackle Mantell Corporation members Stan Hansen & Jumbo Tsurusta. This is the kind of hard hitting action that made Mid South famous! Ross almost works him into a tizzy as he waxes eloquent about how this is one of the most physical bouts we have seen in a long time! In the end, Hansen and Duggan, who appear to have developed a real dislike for each other, spill onto the floor as Reed and Tsuruta battle in the ring! Hansen uses his bullropr to demolish Duggan! Hansen busts Duggan’s head open with the cowbell and then savagely chokes him with the rope itself! In the ring, Reed hits truruta with the big shoulder tackle! ONE-TWO-THREE!!!!! THE HACKSAWS WIN A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE! Hansen is still working on Duggan! Hansen has the rope wrapped around Duggan’s throat and he’s using the bell to bash Duggan’s brains out! Watts leaves the desk to go get reinforcements! Tsuruta & Mantell are keeping Reed from helping Duggan! Here comes the Big Cowboy along with Chavo Guerrero! Nelson Royal! Tony Garea! Fred Curry! Gerald Finley! They manage to pull the vicious Hansen off of Duggan! Duggan comes over to Jim Watts and the microphone!
HANSEN: The Mantell Corporation offered me more money than the average man makes in a life time to come here and help them take over Mid South! All I hear about this place is how tough Jim Duggan is! Well, boy, when the Badman from Borger, Texas gets ahold of you, you ain’t so tough are ya? You don’t look like such a TV Champion now, do ya? If yer so tough, why don’t we hook you up at the end of this rope and you at the other end and have us an ol’ fashioned Brazos Valley Bullrope match? I’ll bleed you dry if I have to, Duggan! (Mantell walks up) Ken, you keep writin them big checks and I’ll do whatever it takes!
MANTELL: Duggan, this man just left you for dead! He’ll take your TV Title and even put you out of wrestling for good if I send him after you! Bill Watts, you can protect people like him forever! The Mantell Corporation is takin over, one match at a time!

“Badstreet USA” brings out North American Champ Michael “PS” Hayes, the spiritual leader of the Fabulous Freebirds!
ROSS: I see you are all by yourself this week, Michael, for your Title defense against a pro’s pro in Nelson Royal…
HAYES: He’s a has been just like the Cowboy here! Bamm Bamm is wrestling in Japan, Buddy had some business to take care down in Biloxi, but I don’t need any help to beat Nelson Royal!
WATTS: Nelson Royal has forgotten more about wrestling than you’ll ever know, Hayes!
HAYES: he’d better remember some it in a hurry! He’s got the North American Champion to deal with now!
Michael Hayes puts the North American belt up against Nelson Royal. Early on, it looks like Watts is right as Royal totally outwrestles Hayes and sends him flying around the ring! Watts is as much of a cheerleader for Royal as he is a commentator this week. Royal gives a lot of hope to the fans, but, in the end, the Freebird hits a bulldog to get the best of Royal and score the pin!
Jim & Bill thank the fans for joining them for another great hour. Next week, Jim & Joel Watts will be your announce team, but the big Cowboy will be here to announce the date for the Superdome Summer Spectacular! We will have two title matches: Jim Duggan, who hopefully be recovered from his brutal beating from Stan Hansen today, will defend the TV Title against the Freebirds enforcer, Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy! Believe it or not, Christopher Love has done it! The Love Train will wrestle Greg Gagne & Jerry Brisco for the Mid South Tag Team Titles! Ross and agree that the Love Train is an effective team despite Christopher Love’s effeminate demeanor! Kevin Sullivan has informed us that the first “dark soldier in his army” will be in action! The Zambuie Express, a big, rugged tag team will be here as part of the mantel Corporation! Buddy Landell will take on Butch Reed. I’m sure Missy hyatt will be in “the Nature Boy’s” corner! Don’t miss next week’s action packed show!
