Mid-South in Tulsa (5/2/85)

Sorry,gang. I thought I had the most pathetic, malware ridden PC in the country until I started trying to use my brother's....

A capacity crowd packs the Tulsa Civic Center for a great night of action! Here's what happens:

1. Former World Champion and Oklahoma native Jack Brisco makes his Mid-South debut against Mike Davis. Both men wrestle an aggressive style and Davis displays a cocky attitude. Brisco wins with the figure four in 8:43.

2. John Tatum takes on Tiger Conway, Jr. In spite of overwhelming fan support for Conway, "Hollywood" gets the pin @ 11:27, but resorts to using the ropes for leverage.

3. "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel, with his mysterious blonde by his side, wrestles veteran Tony Garea. Garea makes it exciting despite constant distraction and verbal assaults from Landel's lady. Buddy gets the win at 10:57 after his corkscrew elbow.

4. Ken Mantell introduces the Mantell Corporation's newest tag team, the Zambuie Express(Elijah Akeem & Kareem Muhammad). The Express gets its feet wet right away as they face former Mantell Corporation allies Ernie Ladd & Bob Orton, Jr. Ladd and Orton give their massive opponents all they want, but a Muhammad corner splash on Ladd seals the deal and the Zambuies are victorious in their debut at the 13:33 mark.

5. The Mid South Tag Title is up for grabs as Greg Gagne & Jerry Brisco put the belts on the line against Freebirds Buddy Roberts & Terry Gordy. Since Michael Hayes has a title match against Magnum TA in the next match, he merely accompanies his brothers to the ring, gives them a pep talk, and leaves after the bell rings. The 'Birds look pretty tough as they isolate Gagne and give him a brutal beating. Gagne finally makes a hot tag and Brisco manages to turn the tide. Jerry's big brother Jack comes to ringside, slaps the ring apron and yells encouragment to his brother. Finally, Jerry pins Roberts with the Oklahoma roll to retain the belts @ the 15:49 mark. Gordy is enraged by the result! Bamm Bamm powerbombs Jerry and then puts the oriental spike on Greg! Jack hits the ring, swinging one of the title belts and the Freebirds bail out!

6. Michael Hayes defends his North American belt against former champ Magnum TA! TA dominates the action most of the way and Hayes can't seem to get anything going. Finally, Hayes bails out and grabs his belt! It looks like P.S. is taking a powder! Magnum is fired up and comes out to go after Hayes! Looks like the champ lured Magnum into a trap....Hayes charges at TA with the title belt! Hayes is going to try to use the belt to break Magnum's face again! TA steps to one side and catches Hayes around the waist......BELLY TO BELLY ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!! Gordy and Roberts run to ringside to check on the injured champ as TA stands at ringside with fists clinched as if to say "Bring it on!" 

The referee calls for the bell! Both men have been counted out. The fans give Magnum a standing O as Gordy and Roberts have to help Hayes to the dressing room!

We will have an intermission before the MAIN EVENT: JUNKYARD DOG VS. HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN...LOSER LEAVES MID SOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. Finally, the Main Event: Loser Leaves Town match between Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Junkyard Dog (w/Ken Mantell)! JYD enters with Mantell by his side as “Another One Bites The Dust” blares. Not long ago, the fans would have blown the roof off for this spectacle, but now, they boo. The Dog’s chain is now GOLD PLATED! Dog attacks Duggan as he enters the ring and uses his chain to bust Duggan open before the bell can sound! JYD throws Hacksaw to the floor and slams him on the concrete! Mid South president Bill Watts comes down and asks Duggan if he is able to go on…A bleeding Duggan gives him a thumbs up! It looks bad for Hacksaw, but he does the Duggan stomp, makes a remarkable comeback, and soon has the Dog in trouble! Mantell sees the desperation of the situation and climbs onto the ring apron with Dog’s chain! JYD gets the drop on Duggan and is going to whip Duggan to the apron where Mantell will hit Jim with the chain! NO! Duggan reverses and whips JYD into Mantell! JYD is hit right in the face with his own chain and Hacksaw rolls the Dog up! 1-2-3! Duggan pins Junkyard Dog and the Dog is going to leave Mid South! Mantell is protesting to the ref, but to no avail! Duggan does his famous stomp once again as the crowd goes wild! JYD leaves the arena dejectedly as Mantell runs along behind him. Mantell seems to be trying to console JYD, but the Dog is ignoring him! Maybe the Dog has learned his lesson, but I think it’s too late as Hacksaw has sent the Dog packing!

Magnum has a Kodak moment with that suplexing of Hayes on the floor. Duggan with a super win. Surprised that Ladd and Orton, Jr. lost but what a great deal by Ladd. Old school to the max. Freebirds sent a message, even if it was that they are poor sports. Sad to see Conway lose. Jack brisco in Mid-South could rock.

That's Jack Brisco sure is brave when he is swinging a metal belt at the Freebirds. It will be a different story when Bamm Bamm gets ready to jack him with a power bomb and no one is around to help the old fossil.

Speaking of fossils hopefully the Pussy Cat Ernie Ladd now understands the gig is up at the hands of the Zambuie Express.Walmart needs greeters.

Tragic loss for Mid South fans--- they lose an upstanding citizen and Rhodes scholar like JYD and are now stuck with the mentally incompetent buffoon Hacksaw Jim Doofus. Oh well the idiotic fans turned their backs on the Dog and now have a wrestler who thinks on their low IQ level they can identify with.

Rhodes scholar? Dusty disavows any knowledge......

RE: Ladd. He was near the end at this point and I think Mid South is best served by him putting over new talent.

Great show. I agree on Ladd. It's time for him to move on. No Dog and no DiBiase, it's time for Magnum and others to become stars.
