CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING ‘85
Channel 5 Studios, Memphis, TN
March 29, 1985
Broadcast in: Tennessee, Kentucky
Your Broadcasters: Lance Russell & Dave Brown
Interviewer: Michael St. John
Referees: Paul Morton, Jerry Calhoun & Paul Neighbors
-We go now to Channel 5 Studios here in Memphis to Lance Russell and Dave Brown-
Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome us to “Championship Wrestling ‘85”. They talk about the loaded line-up for this Monday night at the Coliseum. It will be Southern Heavyweight Champion One Man Gang taking on Dutch Mantell in a classic Taped Fist Match. Jake “The Snake” Roberts will defend the CWA Heavyweight Title against “Superstar” Bill Dundee. Plus, it will be one-on-one as “Ravishing” Rick Rude looks for revenge against “Wildfire” Tommy Rich. Jerry “The King” Lawler joins Lance and Dave to discuss The Memphis Three’s win over the Devil’s Triangle. Lawler mentions that Dutch Mantell was out here last week questioning whether Adrian Street could trust his partners, and it turns out that The Dutchman was right to bring that up.
The interview is then interrupted as The Dirty White Boy makes his way into the studio for some strange reason. Lawler tells White Boy that he can wait a few minutes to wrestle his match because The King has a few things to say. White Boy retorts that he is out here to talk to The King. Dirty White Boy tells Jerry Lawler that a lot of people are sick of The King taking up all the TV time here on Championship Wrestling ’85. It was much better when Lawler was off for three months because his neck hurt a little bit. The King rolls his eyes as The Dirty White Boy complains that while Lawler was off on his vacation, people like him were here kicking butt and getting victories.
The Dirty White Boy has seen the likes of trash like Billy Joe Travis and Stomper Jr. making names for themselves by challenging “the big boys” in recent weeks. Well, those guys aren’t nearly as tough and dangerous as The Dirty White Boy, so he is he coming straight to the hometown hero with a challenge. Dirty White Boy knows that The King is the man around here, but it’s 1985, not 1979. The White Boy wants to prove that very fact by whipping The King right in the middle of the ring this Monday night. Lawler is chuckling and says he’s already made it clear that his goal is to get revenge on Jake Roberts and become NWA World Heavyweight Champion in 1985, but he can take a one week sabbatical in order to knock The Dirty White Boy’s remaining four teeth down his throat. The White Boy tells The King to watch and learn as he heads up to the ring.
1) The Dirty White Boy pinned Mike Boyette at 5:02 when he connected with the spinning neckbreaker to score the pin. The King actually put over the White Boy as a tough young competitor while remaining on commentary during the match.
The Rock n’ Roll Express are out after the match, and Ricky Morton says that he and Robert Gibson have been denied a title rematch by Hotstuff International. Morton complains that Eddie Gilbert is once again putting the screws to the Express, which brings out Hotstuff and Rick Steiner who are all smiles. Eddie Gilbert tells Dave Brown that as far as he is concerned, he is sick and tired of hearing about the Rock n’ Roll Express. He is done with them! That seems to give Ricky Morton an idea, and he tells Dave that he has a proposal that could allow Gilbert to be truly done with the Rock n’ Roll Express.
Eddie Gilbert tells Ricky Morton to spit it out, and Morton proposes a Loser Leaves Town title rematch! Eddie immediately refuses, but Morton asks him to think about it. They both known that Memphis is not big enough for the both of them. They have been feuding since last September, and they had some wars even before that. It’s time for both teams to move on, and the only way that can happen is if one team moves on to another territory. Ricky says he is giving Eddie Gilbert a chance to be the man who ran the Rock n’ Roll Express out of Memphis!
Hotstuff talks it over with the Dog-Faced Gremlin for a few moments, and then turns around with a smile on his face. Gilbert accepts the match and says that Ricky always was a persuasive guy. One more match. Loser Leaves Town. And after this Monday, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson will have to pack their bags and become big fishes in some small pond because the Rock n’ Roll Express’ time in Memphis has come to an end! Morton tells Eddie that we’ll see what happens on Monday night – because win or lose, this all ends once and for all.

“Exotic” Adrian Street and Miss Linda are out with Lance Russell, and they certainly do not look happy. Adrian tells “Gwendolyn” (Lance) that he is not here to answer questions – because he has quite a few of his own! Street wants Jake “The Snake” Roberts and One Man Gang out here, and he will not leave the studio until it happens. Lance mentions that there a lot of other segments on the docket so this is not the time or the place for a sit-in. Street ignores Russell, grabs Dave Brown’s chair and then takes a seat right in front of the ring. Russell mentions that he guesses that the show better just move on, even with Adrian Street still sitting right in front of the ring.
2) The Nightmares: Danny Davis & Ken Wayne pinned Bob Marcus and Freezer Thompson at 5:13 when they connect with the Heart Attack to score the pin-fall victory over Bob Marcus.
Adrian Street is still shouting out comments at ringside, as “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Jimmy Hart and Big Bubba Rogers make their way out to ringside. Rude tells Lance Russell that he’s sure all these people yucked it up last week, when Tommy Rich came out like a thief in the night and caused him to lose to a rookie punk like Billy Travis. Rude wants to make one thing very clear – Billy Travis could never beat him in his wildest dreams one-on-one. Rude hopes that everyone enjoyed seeing Tommy Rich embarrass him, because it’s going to prove to be the mistake that costs Wildfire his career.
"Ravishing" Rick Rude is temporarily side-tracked as he gets distracted by Adrian Street ranting at ringside, but gets back on track as he promises that he will get his hand raised this Monday night. Rude says that playtime is over, and it’s time for Tommy Rich to go back to the fast food restaurant where he was destined to work. Tommy Rich looks like a fry cook – and one that samples the merchandise, if you know what the Ravishing One means! However, Rick Rude is a rising star in the world of professional wrestling, and he is going to use whatever value the name Tommy Rich has left to be a stepping stone here in CWA.
Jimmy Hart also goes on to call Tommy Rich “the biggest never-was” in the history of professional wrestler. Hart says the biggest mistake of his whole life was briefly managing Rich, but he soon wised up and dumped ol’ Wildfire. Nothing will please Jimmy Hart more than to see Rick Rude standing over Rich’s bloated, disgusting body while Rick Rude has his hand raised this Monday. And if Tommy gets any crazy ideas in his thick skull, well Big Bubba Rogers will be right by his side to make sure Rich gets what is coming to him! Adrian Street is shouting again as Lance Russell sends us to commercial.

CWA Heavyweight Champion Jake “The Snake” Roberts and One Man Gang are in the studio as we come back from break, and now Adrian Street stands up and walks over towards the desk. Street cuts off Jake before he even speaks and says that he has seen the tape, and wants to know what the hell is going on with his supposed "mates". Roberts corrects Street and says let’s make this clear – they aren't "mates" or friends or buddies. They made a business arrangement, and the fact is that Street has been getting pinned a lot in recent weeks. The Devil’s Triangle were founded on the idea that there is no weak link. Street tells Roberts to “hold on one bloody minute there, Sunshine”. Adrian tells Jake that maybe the Triangle members are in trouble because he has to end up fighting all of The Snake’s fights for him!
Jake Roberts doesn’t seem to like that and says that what Adrian Street fails to realize is that The Snake’s fights ARE Adrian Street’s fights. Street retorts that to him it sounds like The Snake might just be scared of Jerry “The King” Lawler! Roberts shakes his head and says that this situation can’t be patched back together, since Street is willing to stand out here and tell the people a bold-faced lie. So, it’s time for them to go their separate ways. Adrian snickers and says Roberts and One Man Gang don’t quite make a triangle. Roberts agrees, and now the fans are audibly gasping because from behind Street is…

IT’S THE MASKED SUPERSTAR!!!
The Masked Superstar has grabbed the steel chair that Adrian Street set up, and just drills Street across the back with it! Miss Linda tries to stop him, but he shoves her down on the concrete floor! That alone elicits a huge amount of boos from the studio audience, and Lance Russell shouts for them to "cut it out". Dave Brown is telling The Superstar that he has gone too far this time, but One Man Gang just brushes by Dave now.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts and One Man Gang now give the nod and they begin stomping on Adrian Street with the Masked Superstar! Street is getting beaten down, but here come Jerry “The King” Lawler, Bill Dundee and Dutch Mantell and they each have their own steel chairs!
One Man Gang, The Snake and Masked Superstar back up, with the damage having been done! Jake shouts that the Devil’s Triangle is new and improved! Masked Superstar stands stoicly as Lawler, Dundee and Mantell challenge them to bring it on. Eddie Marlin and some referees are out now to help Street and Miss Linda to the back. Marlin shouts that the Superstar is fined $500 for putting his hands on Miss Linda, but it doesn't seem to bother the Superstar much. Jake Roberts flashes that evil grin as he leads his compatriots to the dressing room.
3) Billy Joe Travis pinned David Oswald at 6:33 with a cross-body block coming off the ropes.
The Bruise Brothers make their way out into the ring, and Troy Graham makes a crack about Miss Linda’s make-up being streaked across the floor. Porkchop Cash quips that it was actually Adrian Street’s makeup! Dave Brown angrily replies that we don't need running commentary from The Bruise Brothers, and mentions that they lost by disqualification to Sweet Sensation last week when Porkchop Cash was caught using his boot as a weapon.
"The Boss" Porkchop Cash tells Dave Brown that he is lying to the people watching on TV this morning because that it is not what happened! The Boss claims that his shoe accidentally came off and he was trying to put it back on, when Shawn Michaels attacked him like the coward like he is! This Monday, it’s round two and Troy Graham just hopes that Stan Lane and Shawn Michaels can resist the urge to cheat for just one night!

An angry and bandaged Adrian Street is out as we come back and he snatches the microphone from Lance Russell. Street tells the Masked Superstar that he’s done a lot of bad things his career, but he “never bloody hit a bird” like Superstar did when he shoved Miss Linda. Adrian tells Lance that there’s no honor among thieves, but Masked Superstar crossed the line “by putting his has hands on my bird”. Street has demanded a match with Masked Superstar this Monday night, and Eddie Marlin has granted him the match.
This Monday night, Street is going to rip that mask off and then dig his finger nails into the Masked Superstar’s flash. He’ll have a new mask then – one made of crimson! And if Jake Roberts and One Man Gang want a fight, “they can bloody well have one too”! Street storms off as Lance and Dave discuss the huge developments during this show. The Bruise Brothers make their way back out for our TV main event.
4) The Bruise Brothers: Troy Graham & Porkchop Cash defeated Mongolian Stomper and Stomper Jr. at 10:13 when Porkchop Cash pinned Stomper Jr. with a power-slam to score the pin. The Bruise Brothers score an impressive win against their recent rivals, taking advantage of Stomper Jr’s inexperience.
"Dirty" Dutch Mantell is out to give the final interview of this show, ahead of his Taped Fist Match against Southern Heavyweight Champion One Man. Mantell says first of all, he has to admit that the addition of the Masked Superstar has made the Devil’s Triangle even more dangerous than they were before. Mantell thinks that Adrian Street is no better than his former friends, so he hopes that they take each other out this Monday night. Speaking of destruction, he knows that is what will be in store when he hooks it up again with the massive One Man Gang.
The Dirty Dutchman is going to tape up those fists and he is going to slam them against One Man Gang’s head over and over. One Man Gang is going to get a whole lot smaller after each and every one of those shots. Mantell hasn’t held that Southern Heavyweight Title in quite some time, and it’s high time for that to change. This Monday night, he is going to come ready for the most hellacious fight of his career and he plans to emerge with his hand raised and a title belt over his shoulder. Oil Trough, Texas' favorite son has championship gold in his sights!
