VINCE MCMAHON and JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another edition of WWF CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!
VINCE and JESSE run down what we’ll see on today’s show, including the feature match, a big tag team match that will see Big John Studd and the Spoiler team up to take on WWF Intercontinental Champ Tito Santana and a man making his return to the WWF, former Tag Team Champion, Rocky “Soulman” Johnson!
Plus, Hulk Hogan will be the guest on Piper’s Pit. Brutus Beefcake while be in action. The Honkytonk Man will make his WWF debut. Ivan Putski will team up with a young wrestler out of Montreal, Dino Bravo. And WWF Tag Team Champions the Islanders, with Mr. Fuji in their corner, will be in action!
We’ll also see the first WrestleMania Report, hosted by Mean Gene Okerlund, where Gene will discuss all the matches that have been signed so far for WrestleMania.
BRUTUS BEEFCAKE (w/ Johnny V) defeats MARIO VALENZUELA. Brutus gets the win by pinfall following a running kneelift at 2:20.
VINCE and JESSE talk about “Piper’s Pit” last week, where Cyndi Lauper and Wendi Richter were the guests.
VTR: Last Week on WWF Championship Wrestling…
PIPER asks Richter about her match coming up at WrestleMania against Leilani Kai, but before Richter can say anything, Piper pulls the mic away from her, and starts talking about how WrestleMania will be a complete and utter failure unless he’s on the show.
LAUPER tries to say something, but Piper cuts her off, and then starts insulting both Lauper and Richter, making sexist remarks, and saying that women don’t belong in the ring, or in the entertainment world, they should be at home, cooking dinner for their men!
LAUPER grabs the mic from Piper, and tells him off, saying that he’s a pig!
PIPER grabs the mic back, and says that this is his show, and he’s not going to let a couple of broads talk to him like that!
At that point, Richter hauls off and slaps the taste out of Piper’s mouth, then she and Lauper storm off the set, leaving Piper fuming.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage at the interview area, and he’s joined by WENDI RICHTER and CYNDI LAUPER.
LAUPER talks about Piper’s comments towards her and Ritcher last week, and she calls Piper a chauvinist pig. Cyndi says she can’t wait to see someone shut Piper’s mouth.
RICHTER says that she’s had to deal with men like Piper her whole career, saying that women don’t belong in the ring, but she’s proved them wrong. She talks about her upcoming match at WrestleMania against Leilani Kai, and says that she’ll be the next World Women’s Champion.
After Lauper and Richter walk off the set, Okerlund is joined by World Women’s Champion LEILANI KAI and her manager THE FABULOUS MOOLAH.
MOOLAH says that she was the longest reigning World Women’s Champion in history, she held the title for more than a decade, and she beat Richter several times. She says that now she’s managing the career of Leilani Kai, and she’s taught Kai everything she knows, making Kai unbeatable! Moolah says Richter doesn’t stand a chance at WrestleMania!
IVAN PUTSKI & DINO BRAVO defeat CHRIS VON COLT & CHRIS MARKOFF. Putski and Bravo, two of the strongest wrestlers in the WWF, work well together as a team. They get the win when Bravo forced Markoff to submit to a Bearhug.
VIGNETTE: Uncle Elmer, Cousin Luke and Cousin Junior are sitting on a porch, drinking moonshine. Elmer says that they’re on their way to the WWF, and they’re going to show everyone what these good ol’ country boys can do!
We go to the set of “PIPER’S PIT” with ROWDY RODDY PIPER. Piper introduces his guest this week, the man who actually thinks he can beat Ted Dibiase at WrestleMania, HULK HOGAN.
PIPER talks about the video we saw last week, of Hogan working out with Mr. T and Sylvester Stallone, and says that Hogan should just go back to Hollywood, as he’s obviously not tough enough to handle the competition in pro wrestling.
HOGAN grabs the mic from Piper, and says that he is a pro wrestler first and foremost, all the millions of Hulkamaniacs around the world know that, and they know that when the dust settles on March 31, it will be the Hulkster standing tall, as the World Wrestling Federation Champion!
PIPER laughs, and says that Hogan’s delusional if he thinks he can beat Ted Dibiase.
HOGAN gets in Piper’s face, threatening him . . .
TED DIBIASE RUSHES OUT AND BLINDSIDES HULK HOGAN!
Dibiase and Piper put the boots to Hogan, but the babyface locker room empties and a group of wrestlers, led by Rocky Johnson, Tito Santana and the Can-Am Express, come out and chase the heels off before helping Hogan to the back.
THE HONKYTONK MAN defeats GINO LOMBARDO. Honky’s WWF debut is a successful one, as he gets the win with the Shake, Rattle & Roll at 2:58.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is in a control room, and welcomes us to the first WRESTLEMANIA REPORT.
GENE talks about WRESTLEMANIA, coming up on March 31, 1985 and airing live on closed circuit at locations all around the Northeast.
He then runs down the matches that have been signed so far:
* The main event will see HULK HOGAN challenge WWF Champion TED DIBIASE for the title!
* LEILANI KAI defends the World Women’s title against former Champion WENDI RICHTER, who will have Cyndi Lauper in her corner!
* BRUTUS BEEFCAKE will face DAVID SAMMARTINO, who will have his legendary father, Bruno Sammartino, in his corner!
* THE ISLANDERS will defend the WWF Tag Team titles against THE CAN-AM EXPRESS!
Plus, Muhammed Ali, Liberace and New York Yankees manager Billy Martin will be involved in the main event!
WWF Tag Team Champions THE ISLANDERS (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeat TONY GAREA & AJ PETRUZZI. Tony Garea is a well-known tag team wrestler, having held the WWF Tag titles on more than one occasion in the past, but today, he and Petruzzi fall in defeat to the Islanders. Haku gets the pin on Petruzzi after hoisting him up in a military press, then dropping AJ down, ribs-first, onto his knee. That knocks the wind out of Petruzzi, and Haku covers him for the 1, 2, 3.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage in the interview area, joined by MR. FUJI, WWF Tag Team Champions THE ISLANDERS and DON MURACO.
FUJI brags about his Islanders, saying they are an unstoppable team, and will hold the WWF Tag titles for a long time.
MURACO complains about the fans calling him “beach bum”, saying that they better cut it out, or the next time he’s wrestling, he’s going to come out there, into the stands, and kick some ass! Muraco then wonders why he hasn’t been scheduled for a match at WrestleMania, and says that the event will be a complete and total failure unless the Magnificent One wrestles.
After Muraco, Fuji and the Islanders leave the set, Mean Gene is joined by DAVID SAMMARTINO and his father BRUNO SAMMARTINO.
DAVID talks about his match against Brutus Beefcake coming up at WrestleMania, and says that his father will be in his corner, to make sure that Johnny V doesn’t get involved.
BRUNO talks about how proud he is of his son, making it to the major leagues, the World Wrestling Federation, and says that he’ll be there to cheer David on at WrestleMania, and if Johnny V tries anything, he’ll have to answer to Bruno!
WWF IC Champion TITO SANTANA & “SOULMAN” ROCKY JOHNSON defeat BIG JOHN STUDD & THE SPOILER (w/ Johnny V). Studd and the Spoiler dominate the early going, but Santana and the Soulman turn things around, and Santana catches the Spoiler with a sunset flip from the apron into the ring for the pinfall victory at 10:14.
After the match, Studd and the Spoiler attack Santana, but Johnson nails both with a quick flurry of punches, that he calls the Soulman Shuffle, and knocks both Studd and Spoiler out of the ring!
Tito and Johnson then celebrate in the ring, with Johnson dancing to his theme music.
VINCE and JESSE wrap up the show, and hype next week’s program, which will feature David Sammartino, the Honkytonk Man and Don Muraco in action, and a big main event, as Ivan Putski faces WWF Champion Ted Dibiase!
Plus, we’ll hear from Hulk Hogan regarding the attack he suffered at the hands of Dibiase and Roddy Piper this week on Piper’s Pit!
