Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome us to “Championship Wrestling ‘85”. CWA matchmaker Eddie Marlin is out with Lance and Dave again this week to start the show, in order to announce the brackets of the Southern Heavyweight Title tournament for this Monday night. Marlin again talks about how disgusted he is that Jerry Lawler has had the title stripped from him, but unfortunately there is little choice but to move on. Again, he reiterates that Jake Roberts has been banned from this tournament, but he will defend his CWA Title this Monday nigh against LeDuc. Right now, let’s take a look at the tournament brackets:
Southern Heavyweight Title Tournament
Semi-Finals:
“Wildfire” Tommy Rich vs. “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert
“Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. One Man Gang
“Wildfire” Tommy Rich is out after the announcement and says he is “done farrrred up” to be in the tournament this Monday night. As far as he is concerned, Jerry Lawler had the belt stolen from him, but the next best thing he can do is take the title back for the people and try to be the kind of champion that Jerry Lawler was for all these years. He then sends a message to his semi-final opponent Eddie Gilbert. Rich talks about all the blood they have spilled from each other in the past, and he is prepared to shed a little bit more this Monday night in order to become the brand new Southern Champion.
MATCH 1: “WILDFIRE” TOMMY RICH VS. MIKE BOYETTE
Tommy Rich pinned Mike Boyette at 4: 11 with the Lou Thesz Press… Wildfire was in fact fired up and he basically squashd the very game Boyette. Rich then shook hands with the fans around ringside after having his hand raised by Paul Morton.
Jimmy Hart is out with his bodyguard Big Bubba Rogers and the team of Rick Rude and Adrian Adonis after the match. Hart promises that Rich’s championship dreams will be smashed by Eddie Gilbert this Monday night. Lance then asks Jimmy about Tommy Gilbert and Phil Hickerson attacking the Southern Boys last Monday night. Jimmy says that’s Hickerson and Gilbert’s business, but he’s all for them taking out Smothers and Armstrong.
The Mouth of the South then moves on to talk about Big Bubba Rogers’ debut match this Monday against King Kong Bundy. Lance mentions that Bundy has vowed to take out every member of the First Family. Jimmy promises that Bubba will stop Bundy dead in his tracks this Monday night, and he promises that it will be the final appearance of King Kong Bundy in the CWA. Rick Rude then steps in and says Morton and Gibson were lucky to leave with the belts last Monday, but it won’t be long before the First Family have those Southern Tag Team Titles.

The Wild-Eyed Southern Boys are out after the break and they are incensed. Tracy Smothers says he wants Tommy Gilbert and Phil Hickerson out here right now to face them in the ring. Tracy says he has no idea what is up with them, but if they want a fight, they can have one. Gilbert and Hickerson make their way out, but Tommy says he wants to explain something before they wrestle. Tommy says he and Phil are sick of young punks like the Southern Boys who are flashes in the pan getting all this attention. Him and Hickerson aren’t young and they sure are ugly, but they are tough SOBs. Hickerson says he and Tommy can be called the Good Ol’ Boys, and they will send Armstrong and Smothers out of CWA just as quickly as they got here.
MATCH 2: THE GOOD OL’ BOYS VS. THE WILD-EYED SOUTHERN BOYS
Phil Hickerson pinned Tracy Smothers at 8:55 with a gordbuster to win the contest… The Southern Boys put up a good fight, but Tommy Gilbert was able to ram Smothers’ head against the post behind the referee’s back. Hickerson then connected with the gordbuster and took the pin-fall.
The Good Ol’ Boys continued to rough up Smothers and Armstrong after the match, until Bill Dundee, Tommy Rich and the Rock & Roll Express cleared them out.
Lance Russell and Dave Brown then show some footage of a new wrestler coming here to CWA – it’s the second generation star Kendell Windham:

“Superstar” Bill Dundee is out after the break to talk about his semi-final match with One Man Gang. Dundee says he probably couldn’t have drawn a taller task than facing the Gang first, but he reminds fans that he has beaten big men like Kamala in the past. Dundee says he has a vendetta against the Devil’s Triangle and this is a way to get even with them. It’s not going to be easy and he is certainly the underdog, but the Superstar has spent a career defying the odds and he plans to do the same thing this Monday night in the Southern Heavyweight Title Tournament.
MATCH 3: “SUPERSTAR” BILL DUNDEE VS. BARRY HOROWITZ
Bill Dundee pinned Barry Horowitz at 7:13 with the Bomb’s Away knee drop off the second rope… Horowitz is very promising talent and he gives the Superstar a run for his money in this television match. Dundee eventually connects with a big power-slam and then climbs up to the second rope for his finishing manuever.
The Devil’s Triangle are out after the match and they have a stare down with Bill Dundee, before they move over to the desk. CWA Heavyweight Champion Jake “The Snake” Roberts says as a wise man one said, Monday night is a night to settle all family business. First, Jos LeDuc will find out why he should have gone back to Quebec City a month ago. Then, One Man Gang will go through CWA’s best and brightest to become the new Southern Heavyweight Champion. Adrian Street chimes in and says that everyone knows once Gang gets that belt, there will be nobody who can take it from him. Roberts closes by promising to put LeDuc in a hospital bed right next to Jerry Lawler.
