AWA ALL STAR WRESTLING
Taped October 15, 1984 to air across the territory on October19, 1984 at the studios of KMSP TV in Minneapolis. Rod Trongard on commentary and Ken Resnick as ring announcer and interviewer.
After the opening, we cut to Ken Reanick and Rod Trongard in front of the AWA logo.
RESNICK: Welcome to All Star Wrestling where we feaqture the great stars of the major league of professional wrestling, the AWA! We have a great lineup, this week, Rod Trongard!
TRONGARD: The Barbarian is here, the Samoans are in action. Tatsumi “The Dragon” Fujinami is in action against American Indian star Chief Joe Lightfoot, and the World Tag Teaqm Champions, The Road Warriors are here!
RESNICK Before we get underway, I want to bring in two men who have apparently declared war on Paul Ellering and his expanded Legion of Doom, Larry “the Ax” Hennig and his son, Curt Hennig!
LARRY: Last week, Steve Williams caused me more pain than anybody I’ve ever wrestled and that includes Gene Kiniski, Dick the Bruiser, the Crusher, the Vachons, Fritz Von Erich, you name it. Dr. Death, you might have gotten the best of that one, but I’m still standing! Paul Ellering, we’ve got rid of one weasel in Bobby Heenan! Now, it looks like the Ax Attack is gonna have to get rid of another one!
CURT: This so-called “Legion Of Doom” has some big, strong guys. I’d be a fool not to realize that! But I’m a Hennig! This man raised me not to back down from a fight! And it’s not just us! Butch Reed, Tony Atlas, Mil Mascaras, Jack Brisco, and even World Champion Rick Martel: all of these men are willing to stand up to Paul Ellering and his goon squad! (cut briefly to the ring where the Barbarian and Ellering are glaring down at the Hennigs) Big boy, any time you want a rematch with Curt Hennig, I’m not too hard to find!
Barbarian vs. Max Blue: The masked man is simply overwhelmed by the Barbarian’s power. After several clotheslines and boots to the head, Barbarian hoists Blue up into a backbreaker for the submission win as Ellering smacks his rolled up Wall Street Journal in the palm of his hand.

The Samoans (Afa, Sika, & Samu) vs. A.J. Petruzzi, Art Crews, & Butcher Hughes: Larry Zybysko joins Trongrad on commentary and is very insulting toward the Samoans. The Samoans don’t exactly have an easy go of it here. There is a sequence where Hughes and Afa pretty much fight to a standstill. Finally, Sika catches Petruzzi in the Samoan Drop to score the pin!
After the bout, the Samoans head over to the interview area. There are words exchanged between the older two Samoans and Zybysko at the commentator’s position. Jesse Barr comes out and gets into a shoving match with Samu! Nick Bockwinkel comes out, dressed in a suit, and appears to be trying to keep the peace, but whatever he is saying seems to anger the Samoans. Ken Resnick comes running over with a mic…
RESNICK: There seems to be a conflict here….
SAMU: Ever since we got here, Zybysko has been running his mouth about us and we’re sick of it!
BARR: It’s easy to jump on a guy who is wearing a turtleneck and a sportscoat. I’m in my gear and ready to wrestle, boy! Why don’t you get up there and defend your Samoan honor if there is such a thing!
SAMU: Boy? If there is such a thing?
Samu has re-entered the ring and Barr has followed him! They are going at it fist and fire as Afa & Sika cheer Samu and Bockwinkel & Zybysko cheer Barr!

Samu vs. Jesse Barr: This unscheduled match is quite a bonus for AWA fans! Samu beats Barr from pillar to post for most of the bout. After a big powerslam, Samu goes to the top rope as Afa and Sika brawl with Bockwinkel and Zybysko at ringside! Zybysko trips Samu and he lands headfirst on the mat! Barr catches the dazed Samoan in an inside cradle and score the pin!
RESNICK: Larry Zybysko has joined me and here come Nick Bockwinkel and Jesse Barr!
BOCKWINKEL: That is just more proof that talent and intelligence will trump savagery and raw power every time!
RESNICK: It looked like Zybysko cheated to get Barr the win!
ZYBYSKO: Spoken like a true spudehead! When a strategy is too complex for a simple mind to understand, you say it’s cheating!
BOCKWINKEL: Spout perjoratives all you want, Resnick! You are looking at the elite of the AWA! Jesse Barr, the future of the sport! A man whose amateur credential make even Verne Gagne’s pale in comparison. Larry Zybysko, the greatest wrestling mind that I have ever been associated with. Myself, three time World Champion and I still would be if wrestling politics hadn’t reared its ugly head!
BARR: Samoans! Rick Martel! Tony Atlas! Even the Road Warriors! No matter who it is, we’re just a little bit better! Learn to live with fact that second best is the best you can do as long as we are here!

Tatsumi “Dragon” Fujinami vs. Chief Joe Lightfoot: As Adnan El Kaissey watches from Fujinami’s corner, a highly competitive and entertaing match takes place. After several near falls, Fujinami scores the pin after a dragon suplex.

RESNICK: I’m here with Superstar Graham and Paul Ellering. Gentlemen, the Hennigs have declared war on the Legion Of Doom!
GRAHAM: Look at this body, Curt and Larry Hennig! Feast your eyes on the 23 inch pythons! Gaze with wonder on the tower of power! The master of martial arts! The man whose full nelson has never been broken by any human being! Is this a man you want to go against? Are you really so foolhrday? Next week, my brother in the Legion Of Doom, the Barbarian and I will be waiting in that ring! If you dare, be there! If you dare!
ELLERING: In just a few moments, I will unleash Hawk & Animal on a few hapless saps! I’m only sorry that it isn’t Ax Hennig and the boy or Atlas & Reed! We are the Legion of Doom and we will bury anybody who dares to stand in our way of domination and destruction! (“Iron Man” begins to play) prepare to be awed and amazed!
NON-TITLE MATCH:The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) vs. Armond Rougeau & Italian Stallion:Road Warriors brutalize their game but overmatched opponents. Hawk pins Rougeau after a clothesline off the middle turnbuckle.
