The big event in October was the Super J Crown league. 12 of the top junior heavyweight wrestlers in the world, faced off in the round-robin league to determine the very first Super J Crown champion!
Fans all across the country were treated to exciting, fast-paced, high flying action from these junior stars. As the league wound down, Jushin Thunder Liger and Great Sasuke were tied, each man had 16 points. They met in the league final on October 15 at Nippon Budokan, and put on a 5-star match! Liger knew he was the favourite to win the league, and seems to think it was a foregone conclusion, causing him to become overconfident in this match. Sasuke takes advantage, and catches Liger with a diving DDT out of nowhere to get the 1, 2, 3!
The Great Sasuke becomes the first Super J Crown champion!
Stan Hansen was named as the first challenger to Mitsuharu Misawa and his King's Crown. Hansen steamrolled everyone in his path during the tour, including defeating Misawa's partner Keiji Muto, but at Nippon Budokan, Misawa was able to pull out a hard-fought victory, hitting Hansen with some vicious elbow strikes, and then a Tiger Driver '91 for the pinfall victory.
After the match, Misawa's long-time friend and tag team partner Toshiaki Kawada came to the ring and issued a challenge to Misawa. Kawada feels that he's been stuck in Misawa's shadow, and says that it's finally time that he steps out from Misawa's shadow, and defeats his former partner for the King's Crown!
Aside from challenging Misawa for the King's Crown championship, Kawada was also involved in the tag team scene in October. He and Shinya Hashimoto, the Kings of Destruction, continued to chase the new Tag Team Crown champions Steve Williams and Terry Gordy.
Nobuhiko Takada made his debut in October. He introduced a group of what he calls "real wrestlers", called the Union of Wrestling Forces: himself, Kazunari Murakami, Kazuo Yamazaki, Kazushi Sakuraba and Yoshihiro Takayama. Takada says he wants to show the World Wrestling Kingdom what real wrestling is!
