A tag team showcase in several prelim matches![/I]
Match #1: 10 Minute Time Limit
The Can-Am Express (Dan Kroffat and Doug Furnas) defeated Gerry Morrow and Robbie Brookside at 6:03 when Furnas and Kroffat hit stereo superkicks on Morrow for the pin.
Match #2: 15 Minute Time Limit
Canadian Bulldogs (Ben Bassarab and Chris Benoit) defeated Joe Malenko and Norman Smiley at 10:00 when Bassarab and Benoit came off the top rope with double diving headbutts on Malenko.
A confrontation in the aisle saw the Canadian Bulldogs exchange heated words with the British Bruisers when they crossed paths.
Match #3: 15 Minute Time Limit
The British Bruisers (Davey Boy Smith and Johnny Smith) defeated The Imperial Army (Dave "Fit" Finlay and Gama Singh) w/ Lord Jonathan Boyd when Davey Boy Smith planted Singh with the running power-slam for the cover. Boyd was irate after the match and accused referee Wayne Hart of a fast count for his brother-in-law.
Match #4: 20 Minute Time Limit
Commonwealth Tag Team Champions The Asian Assassins (Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa) wrestled the Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) to a time limit draw at 20:00. A technical clinic dazzled the Calgary crowd and while it looked like the Harts were on the verge of becoming champions, Misawa and Kobashi hung on long enough for a draw. Bret asked for 5 more minutes, but #1 Paul Jones said he doesn't operate on the Hart Family's rules.
INTERMISSION
Once intermission ended, Ed Whalen hosted a tribute to Canadian wrestling legends like Mad Dog Vachon, Angelo Mosca, Ronnie Garvin and, of course, Stu Hart!
Each men was presented a plaque and then Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith and Bruce Hart all entered the ring to share some of their thoughts about Stu.
The ceremony was interrupted when Lord Jonathan Boyd led his Imperial Army (Dave "Fit" Finlay, Gama Singh and Volkhan Singh) down to the ring to interrupt the proceedings. Boyd wanted to know what Stu Hart was going to do about "his bloody incompetent son Wayne" costing the Army a match earlier with a fast count. As the Harts started to stand up to the Army, Ron Gavin actually stepped in front and said nobody here gives a damn about Boyd complaining like a spoiled child!
Boyd strokes his beard, turned to leave and then turned in a flag to spit red mist in Garvin's eyes! Ron was blinded and swinging wildly as the Harts brawled with the Imperial Army. In the chaos, Paul Jones led Ken Wayne Shamrock down to jump Bruce Hart from behind and lay him out with a belly-to-back suplex on the concrete floor.
Once the Harts and Davey Boy Smith ran off the Army, they turned to see Shamrock and Jones stomping away at Bruce Hart. Jones pulled his man away but it looked like Shamrock was ready to take on the entire Hart family and the other legends in the ring! Some of the Harts tended to Bruce on the floor while the others tried to help a blinded Ronnie Gavin wash the red mist from his eyes. This legends ceremony has turned into a disaster!
Match #5: 20 Minute Time Limit
Commonwealth Jr. Heavyweight Champion Nelson Royal defeated "The Rocket" Owen Hart when Hart let the events of the previous segment and his brother's possible injury distract him. While Hart seemingly had the gold in his grasp at several instances, Royal snatched the victory when he rolled through a Victory Roll attempt with a handful of tights to get the three count and retained. Owen Hart complained about Royal pulling his tights after bell but the official couldn't call what he didn't see.
Match #6: 30 Minute Time Limit
Ken Wayne Shamrock (w/ #1 Paul Jones) defeated Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Bruce Hart at 8:29 with the belly-to-belly suplex after Hart demanded to go through with the match inspire of possibly having a concussion. This proved to be a huge mistake as Shamrock pounced and won the Commonwealth Championship in only his third professional match!
As Ken Wayne Shamrock was presented with the title belt by Paul Jones, Bret and Owen Hart came down to check on Bruce - clearly this night has not gone the way the Harts had hoped.
