STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1984
1pm - 2pm
TAPED FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1984 AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
WHALEN quickly runs down some of the matches we’ll see today, including Bad News Allen defending the North American title against Jim Neidhart, the Masked Superstar taking on Mr. Hito, and in the main event, a big 8-man tag team match, as North American Tag Team Champs Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid team up with Bret and Bruce Hart to take on JR Foley’s team of Johnny Smith, the Great Gama and the Masters of Disaster, Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski
Plus, Bobby Heenan has said that he’ll have an announcement this week as to who he will be managing here in Stampede wrestling.
CHECKMATE V. BEN BASSARAB, JIP - Bassarab goes to the air as we join the match, but Checkmate is able to ground him, and eventually forces Bassarab to submit to an armbreaker.

Before the next match begins, Whalen talks about Johnny Smith turning on his brother a little while back.
VTR: Johnny Smith, while refereeing the North American title match between Davey Boy Smith and Bad News Allen, sucker-punched his brother, then made a fast count on his brother.
ED says that the Smith brothers have waged a bloody war since then, and it continues today, as they find themselves on opposite sides of our 8-man main event match.
GERRY MORROW V. STEVE DISALVO, JIP - after a hard-hitting match, Morrow gets the win with a bodypress from the top rope.
Before the next match, Whalen interviews BOBBY “THE BRAIN” HEENAN inside the ring.
HEENAN runs down Calgary, and the people that live there, saying it’s some nothing-happenin’ backwoods town filled with dim-witted cowboys.
BOBBY says that he’s in the process of rebuilding the Heenan Family, and has already signed the first member. With that, Bobby brings out THE MASKED SUPERSTAR!
WHALEN can’t believe it, and says that wrestling fans are well aware of the Superstar's reputation, and the success that he’s achieved in North America and the Orient.
BOBBY gloats about this acquisition, and says it’s only the beginning, an old friend of his, from his AWA days, is here, and he’s going to have a chat with him a little later, and he expects by the end of the hour, he’ll have another addition to the Family.
MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) V. MR. HITO, JIP - Hito is no slouch, and he puts up a valiant effort against the masked man, but the Superstar overpowers his smaller opponent, and gets the win with the Cobra Clutch.

BAD NEWS ALLEN (North American Champ) (w/ JR Foley) V. JIM NEIDHART, JIP - We join the match about 10 minutes in, and Allen has the match well in hand. Neidhart does make a comeback, but it’s short-lived, as Foley distracts referee Jurgen Hermann, allowing Allen to hit a low blow that stops Neidhart dead in his tracks. Allen picks the youngster apart after that, beating him to a pulp before dropping Neidhart on his head with a Piledriver to successfully retain the North American title.
After getting his hand raised, Allen stomps Neidhart a few times, then kicks him out of the ring.
ED WHALEN interviews JR FOLEY and the entire Foley Army: BAD NEWS ALLEN, JOHNNY SMITH, GREAT GAMA, KERRY BROWN, and KELLY KINISKI in the ring.
FOLEY gloats about Bad News beating Neidhart, and says that there’s no one in Stampede that can take the North American title from Bad News Allen. Allen agrees, and after insulting the fans, he promises to KILL anyone who crosses him, or tries to take his North American belt!
JOHNNY SMITH brags about being a better man than his brother Davey Boy, and says that he will prove it each and every time the two of them meet in the ring.
KERRY BROWN wants the promotion to give the Masters of Disaster a shot at the North American Tag Team titles, but he doubts they will, because Stu Hart and the Championship committee know that their Champions, Davey Boy and Dynamite, wouldn’t stand a chance against him and Kiniski, and the promotion just can’t risk losing another title to Foley’s Army! So he expects the promotion to continue holding them down, and keeping them away from the titles.

ED WHALEN interviews BOBBY DUNCUM in the ring.
WHALEN asks Bobby about his plans here in Stampede Wrestling, and says that, as a cowboy from West Texas, plenty of these fans can relate to him, but on the other hand, his style of wrestling throughout his career certainly won’t endear him to most fans.
DUNCUM says he’s really not interested in whether the fans like him or not, he’s here to win championship gold, and that’s it.
At this time, BOBBY HEENAN makes his way to the ring!
HEENAN shakes Duncum’s hand, and says it’s been a long time. The two men catch up for a minute, and Heenan says it’s time to get down to business.
HEENAN says that, earlier, he announced the Masked Superstar as the first member of the new and improved Heenan Family, and he would like Duncum to be the second member. He says that Duncum could easily win a singles title, or Heenan could team Duncum up with the Superstar to win the tag team titles.
HEENAN then pulls out a contract and a pen, and says that Duncum just needs to sign on the dotted line!
DUNCUM thinks it over for a moment . . . then hands the contract back to Heenan, and tells the Brain he’s not interested!
HEENAN’S stunned, and he just stares at Duncum for a moment, before asking him what he’s talking about. Duncum says that he appreciates everything that Heenan has done for him in the past, but he’s on his own now, he doesn’t need, or want, a manager at this time.
Duncum climbs out of the ring and walks off, as Heenan yells at him to come back and reconsider.
WHALEN takes a look at Bobby, and says that shade of red really doesn’t suit him, to which Heenan tells Ed to shut up, before storming off.

It’s main event time, and Ed tells us that it’s going to be a “ring-a-ding-dong dandy”!
JOHNNY SMITH, GREAT GAMA, KERRY BROWN & KELLY KINISKI (w/ JR Foley) V. DAVEY BOY SMITH, DYNAMITE KID, BRUCE & BRET HART, JIP - We join the match a few minutes in, and Bruce Hart is trapped in the heels corner, being constantly double and triple teamed. Several times, Bret, Dynamite or Davey come in and try to break it up, only to be forced back to their corner by the referee, which gives the heels more time to gang up on poor Bruce.
Eventually Bruce is able to break free from the heels corner, and makes the hot tag to his brother Bret. Bret cleans house, and when JR Foley climbs up on the apron, Bret gives him a big right hand to the jaw for his troubles! The fans, and Ed Whalen, like that as they errupt as the sight of Foley falling off the apron to the floor.
Foley’s men don’t take too kindly to it, and all four of them jump into the ring and attack Bret! This brings Bruce, Davey and Dynamite in, and we’ve got a huge melee with all eight participants involved!
Referee Cedric Hathaway tries to get order restored, but just as he finally does, the bell sounds, and Hathaway is informed that the time limit has expired! The match is declared a draw!
That doesn’t stop the wrestlers, as they pair off, and start brawling in, and around, the ring. The Smith brothers pummel each other in one corner, eventually moving to the floor, where Johnny takes a beating, and hightails it to the locker room, with Davey in hot pursuit.
Dynamite Kid knocks Great Gama through the ropes and to the floor, then bounces off the ropes and dives over the top onto Gama on the floor! While that’s going on, Bruce and Bret brawl with the Masters of Disaster, and they eventually make their way out of the ring and brawl to the backstage area as well.
ED WHALEN wraps things up.
