SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1988
MEMPHIS, TN
hen 'Power Pro Wrestling' returns, North-American Heavyweight Champion Ken Patera is in the ring flexing while he's announced by Mike McGuirk. Patera eventually yanks the microphone away from her.
KEN PATERA: "Enough from this dopey broad! I put out a challenge and I've heard NOTHING. So unless somebody walks out here in the next 15 seconds, I'm going home to enjoy some extra turkey! I don't want to hear nothing about a title defense for at least 30 days!"
Patera demands McGuirk start counting down from 15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8...
IT'S "HOT STUFF" EDDIE GILBERT!
This man is no stranger to fans of wrestling in Mid-South - the son of the legendary Tommy Gilbert and one of the biggest young stars in the sport! Patera looks annoyed but not overly concerned when Eddie Gilbert hits the ring and insists on the bell being run! Eddie Gilbert has accepted the open challenge!
MATCH #4: NORTH-AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
KEN PATERA (C) VS. "HOT STUFF" EDDIE GILBERT
TV Time Remaining... Your referee is Tommy Young.
Tommy Young calls for the bell - this title match is happening right here on 'Power Pro Wrestling'! Ken Patera bum-rushes Eddie Gilbert as he takes off his ring jacket and pounds on him in the corner with his hulking forearms. Patera scoops Gilbert up and then hits a running elbow. Patera demands a fast count, but Young counts fairly. Eddie gets the shoulder up before three. Patera is trying to end this one early and he perches for the Swinging Neckbreaker. The World's Strongest Wrestling goes to clinch on the submission hold, but Gilbert rolls him through into a Victory Roll-like pinning combination for the one... two... three! Eddie Gilbert has just won the North-American Heavyweight Championship in under three minutes!
WINNER: NEW NORTH-AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION "HOT STUFF" EDDIE GILBERT
The new North-American Heavyweight Champion "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert rolls out to the floor and is handed the title before Patera can really figure out what happened. Patera is irate as he kicks the ropes, but Gilbert flashes a big smile and shrugs!

"POWER PRO WRESTLING" OPENING VIDEO:[/B]
This week's edition of "Power Pro Wrestling" opens with Les Thatcher and Joe Watts recapping the footage we just saw - there is a new North-American Heavyweight Champion and it's "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert. The new champion joins us as Les asks how his surprising appearance last week came about.
EDDIE GILBERT: "Well, you know Les, when opportunity knocks, you gotta answer it. I just happened to be in he back to sign a contract with IWF and I heard Kenny out here running his mouth. The way I saw it, maybe those muscles were cutting off oxygen to his brain - so why shouldn't it be me to take advantage. I had a valid contract with IWF - freshly-signed might I add- so why shouldn't I have taken the bull by the horns? In wrestling, sometimes you need to be an opportunist and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy in Ken Patera."
Les agrees with that, and mentions that Patera has demanded a rematch for the title at the first opportunity.
EDDIE GILBERT: "I'm not hard to find, Les. If Ken Patera wants a shot, he can have one. But Kenny, remember, I outsmarted you once - I can do it again."
The interview is interrupted when Tony Atlas comes out and he seems to be troubled. Les admits he wasn't expecting to see Atlas this week, as he was supposed to be working with the Special Olympics for a few weeks.
TONY ATLAS: "Well, I was, Mr. Thatcher. I just came in from a long day of working with these kids and what to do I see on my TV at the hotel? I see Ken Patera running down my name, the name of Tony Atlas. But then, this Eddie Gilberts, walks right in and takes the championship when the next shot was supposed to be mine. I don't understand that, Mr. Thatcher.
EDDIE GILBERT: First of all, good to meet you Tony and I can't argue with anyone you said. Just one problem, you weren't here last week and somebody had to take advantage of the opportunity. Now, Tony, as soon as I get done with Patera, if you want a shot, you can have one."
TONY ATLAS: "You say that but the last guy did too and look where we are now! Nah, nah, you know what? I'm calling the Special Olympics and I'm CANCELLING my trip back because I'm not gonna get screwed out my shot again. Not by Patera, not by YOU, Eddie Gilbert."
EDDIE GILBERT: "Like I said, as soon as I get done with Patera, the next shot is yours, as far as I'm concerned."
TONY ATLAS: "Whatever you say. I see how it is around here."
Some tension here between Eddie Gilbert and Tony Atlas... as we go to the ring!
MATCH #1: THE MISSING LINK VS. STEVE O
10 Minute Time Limit... Your referee is Jack Howe.
Dark Journey leads out the Missing Link, who gets a surprising amount of cheers from the fans here at the Irish McNeil Boy's Center. The Link is a wild man and he clobbers Steve O as soon as he gets in the ring. The Link eventually comes off the ropes with a running headbutt for the pin - as the fans sing along to his theme song, 'Bang Your Head' by Quiet Riot.
WINNER: THE MISSING LINK

VTR: THE BRITISH BULLDOG IS COMING SOON TO POWER PRO WRESTLING
When 'Power Pro Wrestling' returns, Rick Stewart is joined by Jimmy Golden to discuss his own cousin Ron Fuller hiring Wendell Cooley to take him out.
JIMMY GOLDEN: "I shoulda known what Ronnie is capable of, but I didn't think he'd sink so low! But Ronnie, you're just gonna have to face it that if you want me gone, you'll have to do it yourself. You brought in Don Carson and The Stomper - they couldn't get rid of me. Wendell Cooley is a dangerous man, a great rassler, but he ain't gonna get rid of me either. Ronnie, you can either face me like a man or you can bankrupt that Stud Stable of yours hiring dirt bags that can't beat me!"
MATCH #2: JIMMY GOLDEN VS. ROGER KIRBY
10 Minute Time Limit... Your referee is James Beard.
The introductions aren't even finished when Ron Fuller wanders out and calls Roger Kirby into a huddle. He hands Kirby an envelope and then whispers something in his ear before dropping down and motioning for the match to go on. Roger Kirby is a wily veteran and he really goes after Golden here, choking him several times until warned he'll be disqualified. Kirby resorts to a conspicuously low blow and then comes off the top rope with a knee drop... but misses! Fuller is irate on the floor as Golden grabs Kirby's right leg and hooks him in the Fuller Leglock! Kirby has nowhere to go and he has to submit. Meanwhile, Fuller is motioning towards the back.
From the back, Wendell Cooley rushes down and he's seen taping his fists. Just as Jimmy Golden goes to release the Fuller Leglock, Cooley slides in and drives a taped fist into his forehead. Another! Another! Blood begins to poor down Golden's forehead as Cooley continues to pound on him. Officials run in and eventually Fuller calls him off. As the officials tend to the bloodied and battered Jimmy Golden, Ron Fuller approaches the prone Roger Kirby on the floor and snatches back the envelope he'd given Kirby!

When 'Power Pro Wrestling' returns, footage is shown of officials helping a bloodied Jimmy Golden to the dressing room. Ron Fuller and Wendell Cooley are standing with Rick Stewart at ringside - and Stewart admonishes their sneak attack.
RON FULLER: "If you're mad at anyone, you should be mad at my no-good cousin because he brought this on himself! Who dare he use the hold that my father invented! It's called the Fuller Leglock for a reason - it's not the Golden Leglock. Jimmy, as your flesh and blood, I'm telling you to take this is a warning. Go somewhere else - anywhere else - because if you don't, this man will make what happened to you today look like a cake walk!"
Let's go back to the ring where our Best of 7 Series for the North-American Tag Team Championships begins!
MATCH #3 BEST OF 7 SERIES FOR NORTH-AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
MR. OLYMPIA & PAUL "MR. WONDERFUL" ORNDORFF VS. THE OUTLAWS
TV Time Remaining... Your referee is Tommy Young.
Cowboy Bill Watts announced last week that these two teams would take part in a Best of 7 Series to settle their feud once and for all. In this first match, both teams are cautious because they don't want to go to a disadvantage already. It eventually devolves into a brawl and Ron Bass manages to clobber Mr. Olympia with the butt of his bullwhip on the floor behind the referee's back. After Bass rolls back in, referee Tommy Young starts administering the 10 count. Orndorff tries to help Olympia back up but his partner is out of it - and gets counted out! The Outlaws use nefarious means but they go up 1-0 in the Best of 7 Series.
WINNERS: THE OUTLAWS LEAD BEST OF 7 SERIES, 1-0

When 'Power Pro Wrestling' returns, Les Thatcher speaks with Wahoo McDaniel before our standby match. The chief is asked for his thoughts about this dispute between Tony Atlas and North-American Heavyweight Champion "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert.
WAHOO MCDANIEL: "I think Tony has a good point - he was supposed to be next in line for a championship match. I know that because I was #2 on that list right behind him. However, Tony can't blame Eddie Gilbert for some good fortune. Tony, myself, even Scott Hall, we weren't here last week. Now, Patera knew that and tried to take advantage of it, but it blew up in his face. Eddie Gilbert did what anyone of us would have done and took advantage of a big opportunity. I don't have a gripe with Eddie Gilbert - so long as he faces me when it's my turn, he'll have my respect."
MATCH #4:
SIR NELSON ROYAL & JOE "THE PROFESSIONAL" MALENKO VS. PAUL ROMA AND EL GRAN APOLLO
TV Time Remaining... Your referee is Jack Howe.
Dr. Tom Prichard sits in with Les and Joel for this standby match, where the North-American Junior Heavyweight Champion Joe Malenko teams with Sir Nelson Royal. Prichard says he's heard about these two palling around - maybe Nellie thinks he's going to pass down the mantle of the junior heavyweight division to Malenko! Not on Dr. Tom's watch - he has a shot on Christmas Eve at the Superdome and he plans to bring home the gold as a Christmas present for himself. In the ring. Sir Nelson counsels Joe Malenko to be more vicious, leading to Joe driving a vicious knee into the back of Apollo's neck coming off the ropes, then applying an STF for the submission.
In the post-match, Sir Nelson blocks the referee from trying to get Malenko to break the hold, but when Dr. Tom starts to head to ringside, the champion breaks his STF. As Royal and Malenko stand tall in the ring, Dr. Tom promises he's taking the belt in New Orleans!
