Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship Match Weigh-In Ceremony
The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross
‘Dangerous’ Doug Gilbert vs. Too Cold Scorpio
Johnny is joined to start off this edition of “The New Mid-Atlantic Wrestling” by #1 Paul Jones, the representative for Victor Steamboat. Jones isn’t happy about The Assassin refusing to show Sam Houston’s workout.
“Myself and Mr. Steamboat, we coalesced and invited Mid-Atlantic Wrestling into our private training sessions because we felt it was the right thing to do to help the territory promote this fight. It’s the biggest match of the year, bar-none, and we felt it would generate even more interest if the fine people watching got even a small glimpse of both challengers are preparing. However, The Assassin showed he will be taking every advantage for his client, Sam Houston. Assassin, you may not have faith in Mr. Houston to win on his own merits, but I do have faith in Victor Steamboat. Winning in his family’s bloodline - and I admit, it’s also in Mr. Houston’s family bloodline. However, I happen to think the apple fell quite far from the tree when it comes to Sam Houston given how he has behaved out here. Myself and Mr. Steamboat will continue to treat this process with the respect it deserves tonight during the Weigh-In!”
Let’s go to the ring!
1 Fall,15MTL
Too Cold Scorpio vs. Doug Gilbert
A great junior heavyweight match opens things up. The announcers put over Scorpio as a future star, but he falls here to Gilbert and his constant bending of the rules. ‘Dangerous’ Doug eventually pin Scorpio after turning a back-drop set-up into a spiked spinning neck-breaker.
Winner: Doug Gilbert
Johnny takes a moment to announce the crowning of a new United States Heavyweight Champion, 'Cowboy' Bob Orton Jr., following a tournament held in Charlotte earlier this week. Orton beat the great Bob Armstrong in the finals - with some unexpected help from fellow competitor Robert Fuller. Weaver is excited to announce that Mr. Orton will be competing here in the new Mid-Atlantic starting on the Labor Day weekend card in non-title action!

‘DANGEROUS’ DOUG GILBERT joins Johnny Weaver with a message for THE BIG CAT - his opponent in Spartanburg on September 3!
“I gotta question for this feller. Who does he thank he is? He comes in here, gets the video package, gets to shake hands with Jimmy Crockett on TV? They sure did roll the red carpet out for this feller. Hughes, what’s so special about you? I look at you and see 300 lbs of stanky trash stuffed into a 200 lb bag! Ya hear that! If you thank you’re gonna come into the Mid-Atlantic and make yer name off-ah ‘Dangerous’ Doug Gilbert, wooo boy, you got any thing coming! September 3, Spartanburg, the heart of the Mid-Atlantic, we’re gonna show Jimmy Crockett and all these people that the superstar of the future ain’t no Big Cat. It’s ‘Dangerous’ Doug Gilbert!
1 Fall, TVR
Ranger Ross vs. The Iron Sheik
Johnny Weaver wants to know who granted Tony Rumble a manager license? This man was once a top wrestling prospect, then he went crackers and, as far as Weaver knew, has spent the last two years in a looney bin! Rumble certainly is unhinged as he frequently gets involved on behalf of the Sheik, taking shots at Ross. Ranger Ross fights back with everything he has and manages to get the Sheik on the backfoot. Ross finally comes off the ropes with a running shoulder-block that topples The Iron Sheik. Ross follows up with a running bulldog, but in comes Rumble to rake at the eyes of Ranger Ross! Sheik grabs Ranger Ross’s own American flag and batters him the pole while Rumble laughs like a lunatic! Finally, Tommy Angel, the Southern Rockers, Paul Jones and Victor Steamboat run I to clear the ring. Ranger Ross is helped up, but demands to leave on his own power.
Winner: Ranger Ross by DQ

An irate RANGER ROSS joins Johnny Weaver with the flag in hand.
“Mr. Weaver, I’m hot, man. They want to beat me, beat me. I been beat before and I got back up. That’s what an Army Ranger is trained to do. I don’t win every time out but I keep fighting. I could have handled them beating me, Mr. Weaver. But they didn’t just try to beat me. They tried to humiliate me like a damn dog with the colors of this great country. The colors I fought for - these colors don’t run, man, and neither does Ranger Ross. Tony Rumble, you and that rotten Sheik made a mistake in leaving me alive. Because Ranger Ross has something to fight for - and I’m coming for YOU!”
Let’s go back to the ring!

Southern Rockers and Tommy Angel vs. Colt Steele and The New Assassins
A preview of two matches from the September 3 card sees everything coming up trumps for Tommy Angel as he’s able to pin Colt Steele with a top rope sunset flip. If he can do it again in Spartanburg, he will have a case to be the #1 contender!
Winners: Southern Rockers and Tommy Ranger

In our final moments, we have the Weigh-In for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship match - and news that Ranger Ross has been granted a rematch with the Iron Sheik in Spartanburg.
All of the principals are in the ring with a large scale, but this weigh in doesn’t even get started before The Assassin begins bickering with Paul Jones. Assassin taunts Jones over his misstep last week, then Jones responds saying the proof will be in whose protege walks out of Spartanburg as the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion.
The arrogant Sam Houston steps in now to tell Paul Jones there’s no debate there - the belt is as good as Sam Houston’s and it has been since his side discovered ‘the secret weapon’. Paul Jones thinks it’s about time for Houston and The Assassin to put up or shut up about this secret weapon they claim to have.
The Assassin can’t believe Paul Jones still doesn’t get it - he’s supposed to be a strategist and he’s shown no understanding of strategy! Assassin says Paul Jones will find out about the ‘secret weapon’ as soon s Victor Steamboat does - in the ring, in Spartanburg, this coming Saturday!
However, Sam Houston says The Assassin did have a secret planned for tonight too after the weigh-in so how about Victor Steamboat gets on the scale and he can find out! Steamboat looks annoyed by all of this, but he steps on the scale - weighing in at 227 lbs.
Steamboat steps off, never taking his eyes off of Houston. Sam then steps on, weighing in at 218lbs - slimmer and trimmer, according to Sam. As Sam goes to step off the scale, he spins and throws powder right in Victor Steamboat’s face! Paul Jones races over, but The Assassin blocks him - in come The New Assassins from behind.
It’s quick and seamless as Sam Houston scoops up Steamboat and they spike him head-first on the scale, before clearing out to the floor. Jim Crocket Jr. is in with several wrestlers as Sam Houston high-fives the New Assassins on the floor!
Paul Jones looks distraught at his fallen protege as The Assassin stands in the aisle - a smile peaking through the bottom slit of his mask.
