Tag Team Tournament Match: Southern Rockers vs. Diamond Mine
Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion contenders in training!
Before that, Johnny is joined by the manager of the Diamond Mine, one Diamond Dallas Page and his tag team of Beauty (Terrence Garvin) and The Beast (Mark Guleen).
“First of all, monkey, you don’t have us on the show last week? What’s wrong with you? Never mind, never mind. What matters bro is that Diamond Dallas Page and the Diamond Mine are the new jewel in the crown of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling - and you’ll see that starting tonight. Look at my dudes, Beauty and The Beast, they look they were cut straight out diamond, don’t they monkey boy? Yeah, don’t answer that, I don’t care what you think anyway. Southern Rockers, too bad for you that you drew Diamond Mine first, but it’s an easy night for us. Come on, boys.”
DIAMOND MINE (W/ Diamond Dallas Page) vs. SOUTHERN ROCKERS
‘Rock & Roll is King’ by ELO brings in Rex King and Steve Doll, the Southern Rockers, and they work the crowd here in Columbia. King and Doll start off fast and furious by bewildering their opponents, sending them both out to the floor with double dropkicks.
However, Page’s interference ends up trapping Doll in the Diamond Mine’s corner for a while. This match continues after the break!

We’re back as Garvin clamps on a Full Nelson on Steve Doll. Rex King is rallying the crowned to chant “Go Rockers Go!” and this Columbia crowd is getting on board. Eventually, Doll is able to turn the hold into a jaw-jacker that stuns Garvin and forward rolls into the corner to tag in Rex King!
King comes in like a house on fire with right hands for both Diamond Mine members and even DDP when he jumps on the apron. King manages to catch Garvin with a flying headscissors and then rolls him up for a small package and he gets the three count! The Southern Rockers get a win out of nowhere!
Diamond Dallas Page is furious after the match, but there’s nothing he can do! It will be the Southern Rockers vs. The New Assassins for the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Titles on September 3.
WINNERS: SOUTHERN ROCKERS
Rich Landrum gets a word with Rex King and Steve Doll at ringside - with Rex doing the talking. “We want to thank the people for rocking and rolling with us tonight, we couldn’t have done it without you. We know we gotta have eyes in the back of our head with The New Assassins - and that’s where we need your help! You watched our backs tonight, please watch them in Spartanburg and we’ll bring home those Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championships! Now, iet’s go party, Stevie!” .
.
.
Johnny Weaver is joined by a young man we saw last week, THE BIG CAT, and promoter Jim Crockett Jr. Crockett announces Cat has signed for his first professional match, he’ll be competing in Spartanburg against Doug Gilbert of the Gilbert wrestling family.
“Mr. Crockett, I think you for the opportunity. I ask my people to come on out. I hope to make you proud. I sure am gonna give it my all. I know what them Gilberts are capable of, but they don’t call me the Big Cat for nothin’, sir. Doug Gilbert, you try whatever you gonna try because you’ll need it if you think you got a shot against the Big Cat.”

“The New Mid-Atlantic Wrestling” returns with intense workout footage set to “Far From Over” by Frank Stallone showing Victor Steamboat in the gym and in the ring with #1 Paul Jones. They are working out at Victor’s brother Ricky Steamboat’s gym.
Victor is shown bench pressing, leg pressing and then hitting beautiful arm drags over and over again against a variety of trainees of all shapes and sizes. Paul Jones gives Steamboat pointers and then we see them shake hands as the footage ends.
Back in the arena, Johnny Weaver is joined by THE ASSASSIN #1 and SAM HOUSTON - and reveals they’ve refused to turn over their own workout footage. Assassin explains why.
“I am not in the business of providing my opposition with any professional advantages. I have just seen Victor Steamboat in training, I now know the ways the ways he’s preparing for my protege Sam Houston and I can make adjustments to make sure Mr. Houston will not fall victim to any of the trap we’ve just seen. For someone of Paul Jones’ experience level, I question why he would let cameras into his training camp. It’s simply bad strategy.”
Sam Houston has a chuckle.
“I’ll tell ya why, Assassin. Cuz he’s stupid. Just like Victor Steamboat is stupid. Just like his brother Ricky Steamboat is stupid, and just like their old man Sam Steamboat was stupid! I mean, Ricky Steamboat spent half of his career trying to prevent another tag team partner from dipping into the fire water, if you catch my drift!”
Johnny Weaver is disgusted by that remark and warns Houston not go there.
“Weaver, you gonna try to stop me, old man? Look, all I’m saying is none of them have any brains. See, the first thing I did when this opportunity came my way is I made sure I has the best advisor money could buy. With The Assassin in my corner, we don’t just have a Plan B. We have a Plan C, D and E. And like we told you last week, we have a secret weapon too!”
The Assassin nods.
“It’s the secret weapon that will guarantee the championship comes home with Mr. Houston. Paul Jones, Victor Steamboat, there’s no preparing for that. Now, of you excuse me, I believe we have given you enough of our time!”
Johnny Weaver announces that next week, we will have the official weigh-in for the Mid-Atlantic Championship match!

RANGER ROSS VS. SCOTTY ANTHONY
For the second week in a row, Scotty’s stalling doesn’t help him actually win the match. He’s pined with the Combat Kick from Ross.
After the match, Anthony throws a tantrum in the middle of the ring.
WINNER: RANGER ROSS

A very unhappy SCOTTY ANTHONY joins Johnny Weaver.
“This is a conspiracy, Mr. Weaver! These referees here in the Mid-Atlantic, they’re crooked. They’re biased against me. I never did anything to them but they cheated me two weeks in a row! Somebody’s gotta do something about this.”
Weaver points out that maybe Anthony should focus more on actually getting better at wrestling than throwing tantrums.
“Not you too, Mr. Weaver? You know, I have half a mind to call my father in Palm Beach and tell him what’s going on around here. He could buy this place in about five minutes and I could have these rinky dink referees replaced if I wanted to. I’m sick and tired of having to deal with these garbage…”
Anthony is interrupted as Diamond Dallas Page makes his way out onto the interview set.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down, bro. Look, uhh, did you say your old man is rich?”
“Yeah, he’s loaded but I’m just so sick of these referees…”
“Hold it, monkey boy. Listen to me. Come with me, let’s have a conversation. You, me and daddy can have a little conversation and I think the Diamond Mine can make all of your problems go away, bro. Follow me.”
A confused Scotty Anthony follows Diamond Dallas Page as we go back to the ring…
COLT STEELE VS. JOHNNY RICH
The brother of Wildfire Tommy Rich fires up the fans in Columbia, especially after Colt Steele gets on their nerves early on. Rich looks to have Steele in trouble but Steele ducks a Lou Thesz Press.
Colt Steele rolls up Johnny Rich with a handful of tights and scores the three count, and he’s out of there as fast as possible before he can even answer Johnny’s allegations of cheating.
WINNER: COLT STEELE
Johnny Weaver: “That’s all for this edition of The New Mid-Atlantic Wrestling! Join us next week for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship weigh-in.!”
