We have five big matches on the program today! The third match of the Best of 5 series for the All Asia tag team titles between the Can-Am Connection and the team of Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi will take place today! We’re tied up at one match each, we’ll see which team will take the lead in the series here!
The big American Danny Spivey will be in action here today!
And, the King’s Road League continues today with three big matches . . . First up, a battle of the gaijins, as Bruiser Brody meets the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff!
Then, Tatsumi Fujinami meets the Madman from the Sudan, Abdullah the Butcher!
And, in the main event, a match between two of the biggest native stars in Japan today, former friends and tag team partners turned rivals, Jumbo Tsuruta meets Genichiro Tenryu!
BEST OF 5 SERIES, MATCH #3:
THE CAN-AM CONNECTION: DAN KROFFAT & DOUG FURNAS defeat MITSUHARU MISAWA & KENTA KOBASHI via COUNT-OUT. The Can-Ams take the lead in this series, as they pick up the win here. The action was fast and furious, and could have gone either way, but in the end, Kenta Kobashi was counted out, after being run into the ringpost by Furnas.
The Can-Ams now lead the series, 2 matches to 1, and if they can win the match on next week’s show, they’ll become the All Asia tag team champions!
DANNY SPIVEY beats SHUNJI TAKANO. Spivey makes short work of his opponent, picking up the win in just over 5 minutes, when he drives Takano into the mat with the Powerbomb for the 1, 2, 3!
Before we get to the King’s Road League matches, Wakabayashi and Yamamoto talk about some league matches that took place during the past week at non-televised events.
We see short clips from the following shows:
From May 28 in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, where Tatsumi Fujinami pinned Mighty Inoue with the Dragon Suplex. We then see clips of Genichiro Tenryu beating Bruiser Brody by DQ when Brody punches the referee and throws him over the top rope, after the ref tried to stop Brody from using his chain on Tenryu. From there, we see Jumbo Tsuruta pin Steve Williams after the Backdrop Suplex.
From May 30 in Towada, Aomori, where Steve Williams pinned Bad News Allen with an inside cradle. Genichiro Tenryu pinned Dory Funk Jr with the Folding Powerbomb. Jumbo Tsuruta beat Abdullah the Butcher via DQ when Abby used the fork to open a gash on Tsuruta’s forehead.
On June 1, WWK was in Yuzawa, Akita. Three King’s League matches took place, Ivan Koloff battled Bad News Allen to a wild, bloody double count-out. As a result, neither man gained any points in the tournament. Jumbo Tsuruta pinned Mighty Inoue with the Backdrop Suplex. And, to the shock of the fans in attendance, Abdullah the Butcher suffered a rare pinfall loss when Genichiro Tenryu pinned him after several Enziguris, followed by a bodypress off the top rope!
And, June 3 in Sakata, Yamagata, Abdullah the Butcher picked up his first points of the tournament, beating Mighty Inoue by pinfall after the Butcher’s Axe elbowdrop. Steve Williams defeated Ivan Koloff by DQ after Koloff hit the referee!
KING’S ROAD LEAGUE:
BRUISER BRODY (8 points) beats “THE RUSSIAN BEAR” IVAN KOLOFF (2 points). This is a wild match, as these two gaijin heels tear into each other with reckless abandon! The “match” only lasts about 6 minutes, as Brody kicks Koloff in the face, then delivers the jumping kneedrop for the 1, 2, 3!
KING’S ROAD LEAGUE:
TATSUMI FUJINAMI (11 points) beats ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER (2 points). Fujinami tries to keep this one as a wrestling match, but Abdullah has no interest in that! He’d rather brawl, and before long, they’ve taken the fight to the floor, where Abdullah hits Fujinami with anything he can get his hands on!
Things are looking bad for Fujinami, as he’s been busted open, and Abby continues to pummel him. Fujinami spends more time just covering up and trying to fight the Butcher off than getting any kind of offense in.
When Abby goes for the Butcher’s Axe elbowdrop, Fujinami gets his opportunity to turn things around! He rolls out of the way, with Abdullah crashing to the mat, and Fujinami then goes up top and connects with a diving bodypress for the 1, 2, 3!
KING’S ROAD LEAGUE:
JUMBO TSURUTA (14 points) beats GENICHIRO TENRYU (9 points). These two men were the #1 and #2 wrestlers in All Japan Pro Wrestling throughout the early and mid 80s, now both men are here in the World Wrestling Kingdom, and find themselves squaring off against each other in today’s main event!
It’s evenly matched throughout the contest, until around the 17-minute mark, when Tsuruta catches Tenryu with the jumping knee to the face as Tenryu comes off the ropes. From there, Jumbo hoists him up and delivers the Backdrop Suplex, driving Tenryu into the mat for the 1, 2, 3!
As Tsuruta is getting his hand raised, Tenryu attacks him from behind!!!! Tenryu delivers an Enziguri that stuns Tsuruta, and Genichiro then dropkicks him, sending Jumbo tumbling through the ropes and to the floor!
Outside the ring, Tenryu slams Tsuruta head-first into the ringpost, busting him wide open . . . then delivers the Folding Powerbomb ON THE ARENA FLOOR!!!!!
The crowd in the arena is shocked, as Tsuruta is down on the floor, and he’s not moving! The referee calls for medical personnel, as Tenryu spits on Tsuruta, and heads to the locker room!
What a disgusting display by Genichiro Tenryu!!!!
We see a graphic on the screen:
