Thing about Wargames and WWE ticket prices is that cutting out all of those front row seats, supposedly, would cut any extra money the Wargames gimmick would provide. I don't understand how even if fewer people are in the building, how the blue hell are there not MORE quote/unquote front row seats when there are TWO RINGS to set up the FIRST row of chairs around? I guess they would charge less money for greater number of seats, maybe?
But like Rocko said, right now is seemingly the best chance of any non-Vince decisions making TV in WWE. After Rocky left, post Mania 29, there has been a run of consistent old school, pro wrestling philosophy and logic infused into WWE. PPV's, or well technically they're calling them Super Events or something like that and dropping the term Pay Per View from TV entirely, have consistently had clean finishes on the big shows. And lo and behold, the entire company benefits when they stop trying to protect so many people. Last week's clean pinfall loss is quickly forgotten, and a string of 3 or 4 clean pinfall victories carry weight. THE WRESTLING MATTERS.
WWE gets forced into a corner by injuries, father time, walk outs and when pressed, they let the wrestling do the talking. The well has been filled with quality in-ring performers and every time WWE had to reach into that well, the midcarder succeeded. Even when WWE missed an opportunity with Ziggler or Sandow, they struck gold with Cesaro, Cody and Goldie. So Wrestlemania season is in full swing, the last year has been the most in-ring focused product that I can ever remember the WWE producing and they put the W in World Wrestling Entertainment on the grandest stage. They had been telling a story that required clean Daniel Bryan victories, and we got it. When they needed entertaining minutes of in-ring action they went to Cesaro, and they rewarded him for it. When everyone poo-poo'd on the planting of Shield break-up seeds, they turned them babyface. They have given the best character to come along in 2 generations the mic and ring time needed to get over, and consistently kept Bray and the Wyatt family strong.
Like holy shit, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Seth Rollins come out of Mania smelling like roses. Monday Night Raw I get my full on Daniel Bryan circle jerk, Cesaro gets Heyman, Bad News Barrett is being taken seriously, did Hunter bug my house and start booking for me personally? I'm 29 and have never quit professional wrestling at any stretch. I thought that I could never get back to the levels of love I had for wrestling in the late 80's/early 90's or the Attitude Era, that I had outgrown ever being that passionate about wrestling. I was dead wrong. As a 7 year old I looked forward to WCW Saturday Night this much, but not even the Attitude Era had me as excited for a wrestling show to start. I start getting excited for Raw on Sunday's these days. My 7 and 4 year old daughters enjoy watching it with me, I never quit WWE, and I feel like I'm being rewarded. Personally. LOL.
Bryan doesn't have to be the champion forever. The Shield will eventually break up. Cesaro and Bray's pushes won't always take every turn I want them to. But damnit, I don't start Raw an hour and a half into the show so I can fast forward through a lot of it, I don't end the show thinking, "fuck me that was hard to sit through" or "why do I give them my rating every week?" As long as the quality of in-ring performance and importance of clean finishes on big stages (not necessarily on TV) and the integrity of my intelligence isn't continually pissed on, I can deal with a lot of wrestlecrap. Just let the wrestling matter and I can deal with most anything. And WWE has me believing that they know how much the wrestling actually matters. I'm not asking for 1985 studio wrestling to make a comeback, I like the characters, some silliness, etc. I like the cheese with my wine, but when the cheese sucks, make sure my wine doesn't. It's like they finally get that analogy.
