Taped on June 18, 1985 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC
Announcers: Gordon Solie and Bobby Heenan
Backstage interviews: Ken Resnick
Ring Announcer: Larry Nelson
Referees: Tommy Young, Jack Lotz and “Dangerous” Danny Davis
Opening Clip: Wahoo vs Race, last week on UCW:
Wahoo backs Race into a corner, and delivers another brutal chop. Race stumbles out of the corner . . . and falls flat on his face on the mat! Wahoo quickly covers him, but Race is able to get a shoulder up at the last second!
As the match continues, Race battles back, and catches Wahoo with a couple of big rights that leave the Chief stunned. Race then clips Wahoo’s knee, and goes to work, looking to soften him up for the Indian deathlock.
A few minutes later, the fight spills out of the ring and to the floor. On the outside, Race goes to ram Wahoo’s head into the ringpost, but McDaniel blocks it, and sends Harley into the post instead! At this point Paul Orndorff rushes down to the ring, and attacks Wahoo from behind!
Orndorff knocks Wahoo to the floor, then Race joins him as they put the boots to Wahoo!
The crowd errupts as Rocky Johnson charges down to the ring, and catches Race and Orndorff with a flurry of rights and lefts, and the two heels take off towards the back.
END VTR
GORDON SOLIE and BOBBY “THE BRAIN” HEENAN are standing behind a podium, a backdrop with the UCW logo on it behind them.
Solie and Heenan open the show, and welcome us to “Universal Championship Wrestling”!
Tonight, we’ll see three Television tag team title tournament matches that took place recently at the Civic Center in Philadelphia. In those matches, Iceman Parsons and Koko Ware meet the Cuban Assassins! The Guerrero brothers, Hector and Chavo, square off with the rugged duo of Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Jim “Anvil” Neidhart! And, our feature bout will see a match between two popular teams, as the fan favourites the Fantastics meet Jay Youngblood and Mr. Olympia!
Heenan says he hopes both of those teams tear each other apart, so that he doesn’t have to see either of them around here anymore!
Solie says we’ll also see the UCW debut of one of the toughest men in the sport, Greg “the Hammer” Valentine!
Heenan says that Greg’s father, Johnny Valentine, was one of the toughest men he’s ever seen in the sport, but thinks Greg is just as tough, and he has one advantage over his father, that Greg seems to genuinely ENJOY hurting people!
Gordon and Heenan then talk about how last week’s main event ended, as Paul Orndorff, and then Rocky Johnson, got involved in the match between Wahoo McDaniel and Harley Race. Gordon says that a huge tag team match has been signed . . . and we’ll see it right here next week on Universal Championship Wrestling!
TELEVISION TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT MATCH:
ICEMAN PARSONS & KOKO WARE defeat THE CUBAN ASSASSINS: FIDEL SIERRA & ANGEL ACEVEDO. The Cubans are still looking for their first points of the tournament, as they face the popular duo of the Iceman and Koko Ware! Koko and Parsons gain the early advantage, until Sierra rakes the eyes of Koko, and then the Assassins take turns pummeling him. They keep Koko isolated in their corner, and double-team him every chance they get. Koko is in a bad way, but is finally able to make the tag to Parsons! The Iceman comes in and immediately tears into both Cubans. As Koko recovers, he comes back into the ring to join his partner, and they knock Sierra and Acevedo around the ring. Finally, Parsons connects with the Butt-Butt on Fidel Sierra for the pinfall victory.
GREG “THE HAMMER” VALENTINE defeats TONY RUSSO. Valentine just destroys his opponent here, as he pounds Russo into the mat, then delivers a series of vicious elbowdrops, before targetting Russo’s leg. After softening Russo up, Valentine slaps on the Figure-4 Leglock and Russo submits almost immediately! The entire thing lasts about 2 minutes!
Valentine’s not finished though, he pulls Russo up into a sitting position and repeatedly drives the point of his elbow down on the bridge of Russo’s nose, until his nose starts bleeding, then he slaps on the Figure-4 Leglock again! He keeps the hold on for more than a minute, despite several referees trying to pull him off. Finally, they are able to get Valentine to release the hold, and they force him to the back.
Moments later, Russo, who can’t stand, is placed on a stretcher and taken from the ring.
Heenan says that this is exactly what he was talking about at the top of the program, Valentine’s got that killer instinct that most of the men in this sport lack! He asks Gordon if he heard that SNAP, and thinks Valentine broke Russo’s leg!
Solie says that was a sickening display, and he thinks commissioner Johnny Powers will have something to say regarding Valentine’s actions!
Solie and Heenan hype the big Independence Day show, taking place in less than two weeks, on July 4, at the Civic Center in Philadelphia, PA!
On that card, we’ll see the semi-finals and the finals of the Universal title tournament, involving Rocky Johnson, Harley Race, Wahoo McDaniel and Paul Orndorff!
We’ll also see the finals of the Television tag team title tournament, as the two teams with the most points at the end of the round-robin matches will meet on July 4 to crown the first champions!
Gordon says that before we get to the next match, we have a video that they want the fans to see. This happened recently, at a local gym here in Washington, Paul Orndorff took it upon himself to offer up his services as a personal trainer, so he could, as Orndorff put it “help these fat Washington slobs shed some pounds”!
We cut to a gym, where Paul Orndorff is busy bench-pressing an impressive amount of weight. Orndorff then sits up on the bench and addresses the camera, saying that everywhere he goes in this cesspool they call a city, the people are fat, out of shape slobs! He says that looking around this gym, it’s sad. These people make a half-assed effort to work out, then after 5 minutes, they give up and instead go and stuff themselves with fast food!
Orndorff walks over to a young woman on a treadmill. He asks the woman if she knows who he is, and she nods and says yes. He turns to the camera and says that even though he wouldn’t normally give a woman who looked like this the time of day, they still love him!
She responds by asking him if he could get her Rocky Johnson’s autograph! Orndorff gets mad as she starts gushing about what a physique Rocky’s got, and how handsome he is!
Orndorff storms off, saying she’s not only ugly, but apparently blind as well!
He finds a woman on a machine. He walks over and starts offering advice on the way she’s using the machine.
The woman stops what she’s doing, and gives Paul a confused look. He tries again to explain to her what he thinks she’s doing wrong, to which she asks “who are you?” Orndorff loses it, he screams that he’s “Mr. Wonderful”, the man with the best body on the face of God’s green earth! There are people who would pay any amount just for the privilege of having him train them, and he’s here, offering her his services, FOR FREE, and she pretends to not know who he is!?!?
At this point, two large men, wearing shirts with the gym’s logo, walk over and tell Orndorff that he’s making a scene, and ask him to leave! Orndorff starts yelling at them as the video ends.
Solie is chuckling as we come back to him and Bobby in the Armory. He says that it just wasn’t Paul Orndorff’s day.
Heenan says that he can’t believe UCW would show that! He says, first of all, it was heavily edited, they cut out his arrival, where at least 50 people swarmed him, all asking for his autograph, and the women asking him for a date! Second of all, there were plenty of people who gladly took Orndorff’s advice, but do they show that? No, of course not! This was a smear job from UCW, made for the sole purpose of trying to embarrass Mr. Wonderful, to make him look bad!
Heenan then says that he has excellent lawyers, and if Orndorff wants to sue UCW, let him know and he’ll put Paul in touch with them.
TELEVISION TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT MATCH:
HECTOR & CHAVO GUERRERO battle STEVE “DR. DEATH” WILLIAMS & JIM “ANVIL” NEIDHART to a Double Count-out. Despite both teams being hated by the fans, the crowd here at the DC Armory seems to get behind Doc and Anvil, considering them to be the lesser of two evils. Anvil and Doc give the Guerreros a beating, but Hector and Chavo use several underhanded tactics to turn the tide of the match. Eventually the fight moves to the floor, where it stays, and both teams are counted out.
As a result, neither team gets any points.
TELEVISION TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT MATCH:
THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY FULTON & TOMMY ROGERS defeat JAY YOUNGBLOOD & MR. OLYMPIA. In the previous match, we saw two hated teams face off, now we’re seing two of the more popular teams face each other. The Fantastics come out to a huge ovation, and they run down the aisle and around ringside, hugging and high-fiving the fans! We get a good, clean, scientific match here. After about 12 minutes of action, the Fantastics get the win when they hit Mr. Olympia with the Rocket Launcher, and Fulton covers the masked man for the pinfall.
After the decision is announced, Youngblood and Olympia congratulate the Fantastics, and raise their hands. The two teams then shake hands before Youngblood and Olympia leave the ring.
Before the show ends, we see a graphic showing the standings:
Television tag team title tournament standings:
The Fantastics - 5 points
Koko Ware & Iceman Parsons - 4 points
Hector & Chavo Guerrero - 3 pointsJim Neidhart & Steve Williams - 2 points
Jay Youngblood & Mr. Olympia - 2 points
The Cuban Assassins - 0 points
Solie and Heenan wrap things up and hype next week’s show, which will feature a HUGE tag team main event, as Paul Orndorff & Harley Race face Rocky Johnson & Wahoo McDaniel!
