Gene Okerlund: Welcome to another edition of Superstars of the Ring. We have a great show for you this evening, as tonight’s show will see Ron Bass in action, the Bulldogs meets Ronnie Garvin and Tim Horner, Tony Atlas will face Colonel Debeers, and in our blockbuster main event, UWE Television Champion Nikita Koloff defends his title against Superfly Jimmy Snuka.
Last week, we heard the huge announcement from Lord James Blears who outlined the schedule for this Summer’s Festival of Champions: Portland, Oregon on June 2; Chicago, Illinois on July 7; Denver, Colorado on August 4 and San Francisco, California on September 1. I can announce tonight that the UWE Competition Committee has determined that Roddy Piper’s contract entitles him to a rematch with world heavyweight champion Roddy Piper, and this rematch will take place on June 2 in Portland. Also on that card, at the request of the Rock and Roll Express who were betrayed by the Bulldogs in Los Angeles, the two teams will face each for the tag-team titles. In addition, UWE Television Champion Nikita Koloff will defend his belt against Tito Santana, while Rick Martel will take on Jake Roberts, and Lex Lugar will meet the monster Big John Studd!
We also learned last week that the Festival in Chicago will host one of the biggest tag-team tournaments in the history of wrestling! The DARE CUP will take place with teams from all over the country competing for this prestigious title and a one million dollar prize! You can bet we will get even more tag-teams joining the already loaded tag division for a shot at this life-changing amount of money. Joining us now are two stars who have agreed to team up for the DARE CUP. Please welcome the popular stars Tito Santana and Rick Martel.
Tito Santana: Thank you Gene and thank you to all the great fans in the UWE. Rick Martel and I have known each other for a long time, we’ve competed together, we’ve won many matches together. None of these matches as a tag-team are going to be bigger than the DARE CUP on Chicago. We have the chance to win a million dollars. Who wouldn’t be excited about that?! We both have huge singles matches at the Festival in Portland, but once we win those,
we focus on training and becoming the first DARE CUP champions.
Rick Martel: Tito and I make a great team. We’re going to train to go to Chicago and win the DARE CUP and then who knows, after we get that check for one million dollars, we just may set our sights on the world tag-team titles. The UWE has the best tag-team wrestling in the world, we know everyone is going to be on the top of their game at the Festival of Champions. We’re going to work, train hard, and go out there every single night fighting for you the fans. Strike Force is going to our singles matches at the Festival in Portland, then we’re coming home with the DARE CUP in Chicago, not to mention a whole lot of spending money!
Gene Okerlund: We have a new tag-team combination in the UWE: Strike Force, the team of Rick Martel and Tito Santana. They’ll be in action next week as they start preparations for the DARE CUP and get ready for their singles matches in Portland. Let’s head to the ring for our first match of the evening as the Outlaw Ron Bass is in action. Rod Trongard and Dutch Savage are on the call.
Match #1
Ron Bass defeated Sal Bellomo via pinfall.

Gene Okerlund: At Countdown to Greatness, our next guest came up short in his battle to take the TV Title from Nikita Koloff. We know he may be down but he better get focused quickly as he is scheduled to take on Big John Studd at the Festival of Champions in Portland. Joining us now is Lex Lugar.
Lex Lugar: Thank you Gene, and I want to start by apologizing to the great fans in the UWE. I went out there to win the title from that Russian loudmouth Nikita Koloff and came up short. I let you down but I promise you all, it won’t happen again. I was down, I was upset about not taking that belt. But instead of mopping around, I took out my frustrations in the gym, working out harder than I ever have before, getting stronger than I thought possible. I plan to get back into the title mix and the way to do that is by defeating Big John Studd in Portland. He’s big, he’s strong, but here’s something you need to remember: so am I!
Gene Okerlund: Lex Lugar isn’t going to let his loss to Nikita Koloff keep him down. He’s determined and focused to get back into UWE title picture. In our next match, we’ll see another team who is in the title picture with a shot at the belts in Portland on June 2, the Bulldogs.
Match #2
Bulldogs defeated Ronnie Garvin and Tim Horner when Bret Hart pinned Tim Horner.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: Last week, Roddy Piper came out here and demanded an immediate rematch, talking about everything from his lawyers to crooked referees. Well, as we learned tonight, Piper got his wish. He will face Magnum TA on June 2 in Portland, Oregon for a rematch for the world heavyweight championship. Joining us now is Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper: I’m sure getting sick and tired of you Gene. I came out here talking about crooked referees because, guess what, there were crooked referees, jack. I was not down for 10 seconds, I was getting to my feet when the referee rang the bell. I don’t know who paid him off but I know the ref, Magnum, the UWE, you all conspired to steal the title from me. Here’s the thing about that pal, your success is going to be very short-lived. In Portland, in front of people who have seen me leave my opponents unconscious in the middle of the ring, I am going to win back the world heavyweight championship. This time, there will be no room for doubt. Magnum TA’s time as champion won’t last long. I’m the face of this promotion, I’m the best wrestling in the UWE. On June 2, I will be world champion once again.
Gene Okerlund: Roddy Piper is determined to win back the world title on June 2 in Portland. We have a great matchup next as Tony Atlas takes on the South African Colonel Debeers.
Match #3
Tony Atlas defeated Colonel Debeers via pinfall.

Gene Okerlund: Before we get to our main event, we are joined by the UWE Tag-Team Champions of the world. As we learned earlier in the show, despite retaining their titles against the Bulldogs at Countdown to Greatness, the Express has demanded a rematch against the Bulldogs. Here to tell us why are Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock and Roll Express.
Ricky Morton: Look here daddy, this is about more than tag-team titles. This about betrayal. We fought alongside the Bulldogs, we considered them our allies. At Countdown to Greatness, they stabbed us in the back. Even though we won the match fair and square, they sucker-punched us afterwards, attacked us like cowards. We’re not going to let that slide, daddy. They think they can attack us and get away with it? They got another thing coming.
Robert Gibson: We beat the Bulldogs last time and we plan do to the same thing at the Festival of Champions in Portland. This though, it’s about pride, it’s about redemption, it’s about making them pay for what they did to us. You’re damn right we demanded another match with them. They need to be taught a lesson and it’s one that we will gladly teach at the Festival of Champions in Portland.
Gene Okerlund: The Rock and Roll Express want revenge against the Bulldogs, even if it means putting their tag-team titles back on the line. In our main event, another title is on the line as Nikita Koloff defends his television championship against Superfly Jimmy Snuka.
Match #4
UWE Television Champion Nikita Koloff defeated Jimmy Snuka via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: Nikita Koloff defends his title in a hard fought match. We’re out of time. Join us next week as we’ll see Strike Force in action against Nord the Barbarian and One Man Gang, while Magnum TA will be with us. Till next week wrestling fans.
