This is a night of wrestling you won’t want to miss!
Our first guest has been undergoing intense training in preparation for his showdown with Lex Lugar at the Forum. Let’s welcome to the program the Russian Nightmare, Nikita Koloff.
Nikita Koloff: In just a few days, you will once again see the complete domination of the USSR. Lex Lugar will suffer the same fate as those who cross the mighty Communist empire. Comrade Gorbachev has sent a special team from the KGB to ensure that I am in the best shape possible for Sunday night, and they are also here to make sure no one tries to steal this match from me. I have been put through the most rigorous, intense, brutal training of any athlete in the world. Training that Lex Lugar could never survive, training that no American could survive. This Sunday night, the Russian takeover of the UWE continues, and there is no one, especially not Lex Lugar, who can stop it.
Gene Okerlund: The KGB has made sure that UWE Television Champion Nikita Koloff is ready for his showdown with Lex Lugar on May 5 at the Forum. The man he will be facing, the Total Package Lex Lugar, is in action in our next match. Let’s out to the ring as Rod Trongard and Dutch Savage are on the call.
Match #1
Lex Lugar destroys Enrique Vera forcing him to submit.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: As we saw in our last segment, Lex Lugar looks like he’s been training hard as well for his showdown with Nikita Koloff. It should be one heck of a match when they meet. Our next guest is booked in a tough match with the outlaw Ron Bass at Countdown to Greatness. Please welcome Jimmy Snuka.
Jimmy Snuka: Thank you brother, and thank you to all the fans out there on ESPN for cheering on the Superfly. I’ll need your help, I’ll need your support, this weekend when I step into the ring with Ron Bass. Bass is as mean as they come, he’s as tough as they come, and he’s never met a rule he doesn’t want to break. I’ve fought men like him before and I know you have to get as a mean and nasty as they are you. You have to do what it takes to win. You have to fight with fire, jack. That’s that I plan to do Sunday night. Bass, you better bring more than your bullrope, you better bring a whole army. Because you’ll need it to take down the Superfly!
Gene Okerlund: Jimmy Snuka has never shied away from a battle, and he’ll need that same determination this weekend as he is stepping into a war with Ron Bass. Let’s head to ring for our next match as Big John Studd is in action. Studd has a tough match with Junkyard Dog this weekend at Countdown to Greatness.
Match #2
Big John Studd defeats Tony Atlas via pinfall.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: The match the entire wrestling world is talking about is the main event at Countdown to Greatness which will feature UWE Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper battling Magnum TA. Joining us now is the man who hopes to walk out of the Forum as the new champion of world. Please welcome Magnum TA.
Magnum TA: This Sunday night, it’s judgment day. It’s the time where all this talk, all this preparation, all these words back and forth, that comes to an end. It’s put up or shut up time. For almost a year, Piper and I wrestled side by side. We fought together against the biggest and the baddest this promotion had to offer. And we won those wars. That wasn’t good enough for Piper. He has some rage, some jealousy, that is driving him. He turned his back on me and more importantly, he turned his back on the fans. It’s time for Piper to pay for this betrayal. This Sunday night, at Countdown to Greatness, I am going to take what he cherishes most, his world heavyweight title. I’m winning that title back for all the fans in the arenas, those that watch us on television, those that write in letters of support. The title is coming back to you, wrestling fans.
Gene Okerlund: Magnum explains his motivation as prepares for his big world title bout on Sunday night: the desire to right the wrong of Piper turning his back on the UWE’s great wrestling fans. In just a few days we’ll see if he’ll be successful. Let’s head to the ring for a big tag-team match as the Wild Samoans face the Killer Bees.
Match #3
Wild Samoans w/ Captain Lou Albano defeated the Killer Bees via pinfall.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: We heard from Magnum TA in our last segment. Now it’s time for the world champion to give his rebuttal. Please welcome Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper: There’s nothing to rebut. Magnum comes out here week after week, saying that I betrayed the UWE wrestling fans. Guess what Geno? HE’S RIGHT! The best decision I ever made jack was to stop worrying what these moronic fans out there thought about me. To start wrestling for me, daddy, and only me. Magnum can get the fans cheers all he wants, I have something much, much more important. I have the world heavyweight championship. And when I leave the Forum on Sunday night, I will still be carrying this world title. If Magnum is fighting for your honor Sunday night, prepare to be very, very disappointed. I am the heavyweight champion of the world and there is no amount of cheering for Magnum TA that is going to change that.
Gene Okerlund: Piper is ready for his big showdown with Magnum TA this Sunday night! He vows to turn back Magnum’s challenge and keep the world title. Let’s head to the ring for our huge main event as Jake Roberts is in action against Rick Martel.
Match #4
Jake Roberts and Rick Martel fought to a double DQ when the fight move to ringside.
Gene Okerlund: It’s obvious we haven’t seen the last of the bad blood from Jake Roberts and Rick Martel. In fact, I think this is probably just the beginning. We are out of time. When we see you next week, we’ll have a full recap of Countdown to Greatness as well as a huge announcement from UWE Commissioner Lord James Blears. Till next week wrestling fans.
