CONTINENTAL WRESTLING SHOWCASE CATCH-UP (LATE FEBRUARY-LATE MARCH)
HOT STUFF INTERNATIONAL
Eddie Gilbert w/Sunshine vs. Scott McGhee
Gilbert defends the Showcase TV Title against Scott McGhee in several return title matches. Sunshine uses her feminine wiles to distract Scott, allowing Eddie to successfully defend the belt. Mysterious gifts have been left for Sunshine at the desk on TV. Gilbert thinks it is McGhee doing it, and his anger has cost him some loses by DQ.
Rip Rogers vs. Scott Armstrong
Rogers took a loss on TV after being laid out by an Armstrong superkick. On a subsequent program, Rogers attacked Armstrong after a match, wrapping his knee and leg around a pole. Wrestlers had to come out after Rogers applied a figure four. In response, Armstrong has adopted the figure four as his finisher and challenged Rogers to a match where submission to a figure four is the only way to win.
Tony Anthony vs. Tom Pritchard
On a TV program, Tom Pritchard reveals that the grudge that The Dirty White Boy is carrying is that Pritchard’s sister saw Anthony for the bum he is and kicked him to the curb. Anthony took offense to those remarks. At a local dirt track, where Pritchard was making a personal appearance, Anthony body slammed Pritchard on the hood of a truck. Pritchard has shown some game effort but the back injury has cost him when he wrestled Anthony.
Destruction, Inc. (Matt Borne/Arn Anderson) vs. Kevin Kelly/Nick Kiniski
Borne and Anderson are hitting on all cylinders, as they start an intense rivalry with Kelly and Kiniski. In vintage Anderson fashion, the huge arm of Kelly was injured in a six-man match on TV. Also, Borne and Kiniski have made things very personal, citing who was the better “King of Portland”: Tony Borne or Nick Kiniski. Borne went so far as to cut up the Canada jacket that both Nick and Gene have worn to the ring.
THE STUD STABLE
The Flame vs. Jesse Barr
After winning the Battle Royal to determine the number one contender for Flame’s Continental Heavyweight Title, Ron Fuller offers Barr a briefcase filled with “a boatload of money” to join the Stud Stable. Barr says no. The Flame attacks him from behind and Fuller busts open Barr with the case. A bit down the road, Barr wrestles The Flame and is able to take off the mask. Fuller is there to cover up but Barr keeps the hood. Jesse, now, hangs the mask in his corner when he wrestles.
Ron Fuller vs. Scott Hall
Ron Fuller still gloats about Tony Atlas “being beaten out of Continental Wrestling Showcase” The Wrestling Pro introduces a new wrestler that Fuller “can try to use as a punching bag….Scott Hall”. Hall gets some early wins against Fuller, making the Tennessee Stud try a different tactic to get in his opponent’s head. Fuller starts making insinuations that Hall is taking steroids and needs to be branded a common criminal. He even goes so far as to produce “a doctor” that is willing “to administer the test”.
The Rose Cousins (Randy Rose/Pat Rose) vs. Bob Armstrong/Steve Armstrong
Several weeks of complaining that The Armstrongs are closet champions gets The Roses a Showcase Tag Team Title shot on TV. A “suspicious attack” on Steve Armstrong in the parking lot leaves Bob without a partner. In a surprise that Charlie Platt “kinda knew would happen eventually”, The Wrestling Pro, the CWS Commissioner, offers to be Armstrong’s partner for the match. The match ends in a time limit draw, but wrestlers have to come from the back to break up Randy Rose and The Pro.
THE REST OF THE ROSTER
The Rock-n-Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis/Tommy Lane) vs. Dean/Joe Malenko
Davis is vehement about what he terms as “the fans turning on him and Tommy”. There is some obvious jealousy over how the crowds in the CWS have taken to The Malenkos. Joe and Dean beat Mike and Tommy in singles matches over consecutive weeks on “CWS on CMT”. After Dean got a submission from Lane with a Texas cloverleaf, Davis bashed Malenko’s head with a vodka bottle. After the match, Davis said all the world needs a Russian for is vodka.
John Tatum/Jack Victory w/Christopher Love vs. Bobby Jaggers/Steve Doll
Jaggers and Doll continue to degrade Christopher, who they both call “Porky Pig”. Victory and Tatum take up for “their man” clobbering both Jaggers and Doll with chairs after a match on TV. Then, Christopher takes two pink feather boas and shoves them in the mouths of the popular stars.
The Bruise Brothers (Porkchop Cash/Troy Graham) vs. Doug Vines/Jeff Sword w/Izzy Slapowitz
Cash is ambushed in the parking lot of Boutwell Auditorium before a TV taping. Later, Cash is scheduled to face Jeff Sword. But, out comes Troy Graham, sans his Dream Machine mask. Vines and Slapowitz get involved causing the ref to throw the match out. Cash, sporting a large head bandage, comes down with a 2 by 4. The Bruise Brothers are back together and the rumbles with The Devil’s Duo have been bloody and intense.
Les Thornton vs. Ron Starr
While Thornton is using the 30-day limit to recover before he defends the Showcase Junior Heavyweight Title, he is allowed to do some match commentary. Some of those contests involve Ron Starr. When Thornton is around, Starr brings out a small Union Jack. He uses the flag to blow his nose, wipe his sweat, and clean under his arms. When the cloth comes close to the lower posterior after one match, Thornton loses it. He storms the ring and proclaims himself fit to wrestle. Ron Starr will get the first shot.
