Solie and Reynolds welcome us to this week’s episode of “SUNDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWN”!
We’ve got a huge main event here tonight, as “Soulman” Rocky Johnson takes on the man that has caused Rocky so much pain and suffering over the past few months, Abdullah the Butcher! Rocky has vowed to end this feud once and for all right here on Sunday Night Showdown!
BARRY WINDHAM beats RICK DAVIDSON. Windham gets the win in about 45 seconds after connecting with the Bulldog headlock for the pinfall.
“GORGEOUS” GINO HERNANDEZ & “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE defeat JOEY SAVOLDI & MIKE GRAHAM. Graham and Savoldi give Rude and Gino more of a challenge than they’ve got since they arrived in the NAWF. Graham and Savoldi get plenty of offence in during the first few minutes of the match, but soon the tables turn, and Rude and Hernandez take over. Rude throws Graham to the outside, then they double-team Savoldi, with Rude hitting the Rude Awakening neckbreaker for the pinfall.
NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY FULTON & TOMMY ROGERS (champs) defeat DAVE & JOEL DEATON. The Deatons give the NA tag champs a tough match early on, but eventually the Fantastics gain the advantage, and hit Joel with a double dropkick. Tommy Rogers covers him for the 1, 2, 3.
Solie and Reynolds talk about what happened last week on Sunday Night Showdown, when Bobby Heenan threw a victory celebration for Paul Orndorff.
Last Week on TV:
Heenan and the rest of the Family are in a celebratory mood. Heenan says that the North American title is right where it belongs, around Mr. Wonderful’s waist, and any two of Abby, Kamala and the Masked Superstar could go and take the tag team titles from the Fantastics any time they wanted. He says that we just saw what Abby and Kamala can do as a team, does anyone really think the Fantastics would stand a chance against them?
Reynolds says that Heenan might be a good mood now, but let’s not forget that Orndorff has return matches signed with Austin Idol, not to mention the fact that Rocky Johnson is chomping at the bit to get his hands on both Abby AND Kamala.
Heenan says that Idol isn’t even in Mr. Wonderful’s league, and all these humanoids know it. He says that there’s no one in the NAWF that has a chance of taking the title from Orndorff. As far as Rocky Johnson goes, assuming there’s anything left of him after the Superstar’s finished with him tonight, Abby and Kamala will be waiting to finish him off!
Heenan says that he’s heard enough from Reynolds and Solie, now it’s time to celebrate!
Orndorff stands in front of the cake, admiring it, when out of nowhere . . . AUSTIN IDOL ARRIVES ON THE SCENE!!!!
Idol grabs Orndorff from behind . . . and SHOVES ORNDORFF, FACE-FIRST, INTO THE CAKE!!!!!
The rest of the Heenan Family immediately jumps on Idol, but the Universal Hearthrob holds his own, throwing haymakers at everybody!
Abby, Kamala and Superstar soon overwhelm Idol, and after pummeling him, Superstar and Heenan hold Idol while Abby repeatedly jabs him with his fork! Orndorff has wiped the cake off his face, and thoroughly humiliated, Orndorff grabs the fork from Abby, and starts digging it into Idol’s head!
As blood starts to run down Idol’s face, Rocky Johnson, Mil Mascaras and Barry Windham rush out and a huge brawl errupts!!!
Finally, security, NAWF officials, and several wrestlers are able to separate everybody, and they drag the Heenan Family off, while Rocky, Mil and Windham check on Austin Idol.
END VTR
Solie and Reynolds talk about Idol embarrassing Orndorff, but in the end, Orndorff and the Heenan Family got the last laugh after busting Idol’s head open.
Later in the show, the Heenan Family again used their numbers to their advantage, when Rocky Johnson faced the Masked Superstar.
Rocky Johnson vs Masked Superstar, 3-10-85, JIP:
The match never even gets started, as Superstar jumps Rocky before the bell, and tosses him out of the ring. At that point, Abdullah the Butcher and Kamala make their way down to ringside, and pummel Rocky! The Superstar jumps out of the ring, and joins in!
Austin Idol charges down to ringside to make the save, but he’s attacked from behind by Paul Orndorff!
As Abby, Kamala and the Superstar pummel Rocky Johnson, Paul Orndorff grabs a chair and batters Austin Idol with it!
Rocky Johnson gets whipped into the ringpost, busting him open, and while that’s going on, Orndorff wraps the chair around Idol’s head, busting him open as well!
With Rocky and Idol both battered and bloodied, down and out on the floor, Heenan and his men admire their handiwork, before heading to the locker room.
END VTR
Solie says that it was not a week to remember for Rocky Johnson and Austin Idol, but they’re looking to turn things around, starting later on tonight, when Rocky faces off with Heenan Family member Abdullah the Butcher in our main event!
NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP:
“MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) (champ) beats STEVE BORDEN. The rookie from Venice Beach has been improving with each and every match, but this early in his career he’s no match for the North American champion. Orndorff dominates the match, and gets the win after dropping Borden with a piledriver.
“UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL beats KURT VON HESS. Idol gets the win over the rugged veteran, softening up von Hess’s knee, then locking on the Las Vegas Leglock for the submission.
Solie and Reynolds are joined by “Ravishing” Rick Rude and “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez.
Solie says that Rude and Hernandez have been very successful since coming to the NAWF, they’ve been undefeated in tag team action, and have to be considered among the top contenders to the North American tag titles.
Gino says he doubts they’ll get a shot at the titles any time soon. He says that the Fantastics are terrified of facing a team the calibre of him and Rude, and the NAWF doesn’t want them as champions because they’re not a couple of puppets like Rogers and Fulton.
Rude says that the NAWF pulls the strings of the Fantastics, but he and Gino are their own men, they don’t answer to anybody, and that scares the powers that be here in the NAWF.
Suddenly, Bobby “the Brain” Heenan makes his way out!
Heenan shakes hands with both Gino and Rude. When Solie asks him what business he has out here, Heenan tells him to mind his own business, then turns his attention to Rude and Gino. He says that he’s looking to expand his Family, and with him in their corner, the NAWF wouldn’t be able to refuse them a shot, he’d get his legal team on them, and Rude and Hernandez would be wearing those belts in no time!
Rude and Hernandez continue to talk terms with Heenan, then they both shake Heenan’s hand again, all three men wearing big smiles.
While this is going on, Rocky Johnson is making his way out to the ring for the main event.
Heenan whispers something to Rude and Hernandez . . . AND THEY CHARGE ROCKY, JUMPING HIM FROM BEHIND!!!!!
Rude and Gino give the Soulman a beating before NAWF officials and security personnel rush out to separate them.
Rocky is in bad shape as he stumbles towards the ring for the main event.
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON defeats ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER (w/ Bobby Heenan). Rocky is in rough shape after getting jumped by Rude and Hernandez, and Abby takes full advantage. The Butcher pummels Rocky, not giving Johnson a chance to get anything going. Rocky had promised that he would end this feud once and for all tonight, but in the early going, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. It doesn’t take long for Abby to open up a cut on Rocky’s head. As Rocky starts bleeding heavily, the referee steps in to check the cut, but Rocky shoves him away, and motions to Abby to bring it on!
As blood runs down his face, Rocky turns the tables, throwing haymakers at the Butcher, stunning the madman from the Sudan. The heavy bleeding seems to have sapped Rocky’s strength though, as he tries to slam the Butcher, but can’t do it, and Abby drops Rocky to the mat.
The Butcher puts the boots to Rocky, stomping away at him. Things are looking bleak for the Soulman, but when Abby charges across the ring and goes to deliver the Butcher’s Axe elbowdrop, Rocky rolls out of the way at the last second, and the Butcher connects only with canvas.
As the Butcher slowly stumbles back to his feet, Rocky heads to the top rope and, with blood running down his face, leaps off with a flying bodypress! Rocky connects and as they hit the mat, Rocky hooks Abby’s leg. The referee is position and makes the count . . . ONE . . . TWO . . . THREE!!!
Rocky Johnson has pinned Abdullah the Butcher!
Solie and Reynolds talk about the rivalry between the two men, that saw Abby injure Rocky a few months back, and both men have shed plenty of blood, but Rocky has finally pinned the Butcher, right in the middle of the ring.
Solie and Reynolds wrap things up, and hype next week’s show.
