Reynolds and Montez welcome us to this week’s episode of “Outlaw Championship Wrestling”!
Reynolds says a lot has happened since last week’s show. Last Saturday night, the first North American champion was crowned, as Paul Orndorff defeated Austin Idol for the title. As well, we saw brand new North American tag team champions crowned just last night in Phoenix, when the Fantastics, Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton, defeated the Fabulous Freebirds to win the titles!
On tonight’s program, we’ll take a look at footage from Orndorff’s victory over Austin Idol, and a new tag team on the scene will make their NAWF debut, as Rick Rude and Gino Hernandez face the Mexican duo of El Hijo de Santo and Fishman!
Montez says that fans in this part of the country are definitely familiar with Gino Hernandez, but for those not familiar with the man who calls himself “Ravishing” Rick Rude, he’s just as arrogant and self-centered as Gino . . . and just as talented.
And, in our main event, Austin Idol meets the former World’s heavyweight champion, Harley Race!
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON beats DUSTY WOLFE. Rocky gets the win by pinfall after connecting with a big knockout punch.
“GORGEOUS” GINO HERNANDEZ & “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE defeat FISHMAN & EL HIJO DE SANTO. Fishman and Santo came ready to fight, and they give Rude and Hernandez all they can handle. In the end, though, Gino gains the upper hand on Fishman, and after taking him to the mat with a Russian legsweep, he connects with a diving back elbow off the top rope for the pinfall.
Tito Montez is standing by with Rocky Johnson. Montez says that recently, Rocky met Abdullah the Butcher in a Sudanese Death match, where the first person to start bleeding would lose the match. We have some footage of what went down in that match.
VTR: Rocky Johnson vs Abdullah the Butcher, Sudanese Death match, JIP:
The match doesn’t last long before KAMALA comes down to the ring! He enters the ring and joins Abby in double-teaming the Soulman.
Rocky tries desperately to fight off both monsters, but they give him a vicious beating, rendering him a bloody mess! The referee calls for the bell, awarding the match to Abdullah!
Every time someone came out to try and help, Abby and Kamala beat them up as well. Finally, with Rocky on the mat, his face a crimson mask, Abby and Kamala decide they’ve done enough damage, and Heenan, with a big smile on his face, leads them to the back.
END VTR
Rocky’s head is heavily bandaged, he says that Abby and Kamala did a number on him, but they didn’t finish the job, because he’s still standing here. Rocky says he made a promise to these fans, that he would rid the NAWF of Bobby Heenan and his goons, and Kamala coming in doesn’t change that. He says that he’ll take them on individually, or he’ll go and find himself a tag team partner, and take them both out!
CHAVO & HECTOR GUERRERO defeat LOS VILLANOS. We’re treated to a fast-paced, Lucha Libre style match here as the Guerreros take on the masked Villanos. The momentum shifts back and forth in the early going, but eventually Chavo and Hector take over, with Chavo forcing one of the Villanos to submit to the Gory Special for the win.
ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER & THE MASKED SUPERSTAR & KAMALA (w/ Bobby Heenan) beat TERRY DANIELS & SKIP YOUNG & TIM HORNER. Three of the four members of the Heenan Family are in action here, though it could be described more as a mugging than a wrestling match, as Abby, Kamala and the Superstar pounce on their three opponents before the bell, and spend the next few minutes pounding them into the mat! After a few minutes of this, the Superstar drops Terry Daniels with the Spinning Neckbreaker, then Kamala hits a splash, and finally Abby delivers the Butcher’s Axe and covers Daniels for the 1, 2, 3.
Back from a break, Reynolds and Montez are joined at the announce area by Bobby Heenan and the entire Heenan Family. Reynolds says that they have footage of Orndorff’s North American title win over Austin Idol, and they’d like the fans to see just how Orndorff won the match.
VTR: Idol vs Orndorff, 2-23-85, JIP:
Late in the match, Idol has the upper hand, and is working over the knee of Orndorff, looking to soften him up for the Las Vegas Leglock. Idol slaps on the hold, but Orndorff is close enough to reach the ropes, forcing a break. After Idol releases the hold, Orndorff pulls himself towards the ropes, where Bobby Heenan is waiting. Heenan quickly passes an object to Orndorff, and as he gets to his feet, Idol grabs him, but before he can do anything, Orndorff, with the object in his fist, punches Idol, knocking him backwards to the mat!
Idol is out cold, flat on his back on the mat, and Orndorff quickly covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
As he gets up, Orndorff tosses the object back to Heenan outside the ring. The referee doesn’t see this, and awards the match to Orndorff, crowning him the first NAWF North American champion!!!
END VTR
Reynolds says that the win wasn’t without controversy, as it’s obvious Orndorff had something in his hand when he hit Idol.
Heenan says that he’s in such a good mood after Orndorff won the title, even Reynolds blatant lies can’t dampen his mood! He says that Orndorff won the match fair and square, end of story. He says that, instead of listening to Reynolds try to make excuses for Austin Idol, he’s sure these fans would much rather hear about the victory celebration that he has planned! Next week, right here on TV, Heenan will throw a victory celebration for Orndorff, complete with cake, and the wrestlers in the back are welcome to come out and pay their respects to the new North American champion!
Reynolds says that Heenan may want to hold off on the celebrations, Austin Idol will no doubt be looking for a rematch, and when he gets it, Orndorff’s title reign could end up being a short one!
Heenan says that Idol can’t beat Orndorff, they’ve already proven that. In fact, there’s not a wrestler in the NAWF that can beat him, and he says that Orndorff will hold this title for as long as he wants to.
Reynolds then talks about an incident that took place last night in Phoenix, when Idol faced the Masked Superstar.
VTR: Idol vs Superstar, 3-1-85, JIP:
The tables turn in Idol’s favour, when the Superstar misses a kneedrop, and Idol immediately goes on the attack, softening up the Superstar’s knee, looking for the Las Vegas leglock. A few minutes later, Idol goes to lock on the hold, but Bobby Heenan gets up on the ring apron, distracting Idol. Austin goes over and confronts Heenan, and the Superstar moves in to attack from behind . . . but Idol moves, and the Superstar collides with Heenan instead!
With the Superstar momentarily stunned, Idol quickly rolls him up and gets the 1, 2, 3!!!
As Idol is getting his hand raised, the Superstar jumps him from behind, hitting the Swinging Neckbreaker. Not satisfied with that, Superstar picks Idol up and hits a second Neckbreaker!
END VTR
Reynolds says that Idol won the match, but the Superstar attacked him from behind, after the match was over. He says that Idol has gone to NAWF Commissioner Gory Guerrero and asked for the opportunity to get both Orndorff and the Superstar in the ring! He says that the NAWF has signed a tag team match between Idol and Mil Mascaras against Orndorff and the Superstar!
Orndorff says that he doesn’t care, he and Superstar will wipe the mat with those two!
Masked Superstar says that Mil Mascaras has become a thorn in his side as of late, but he and Orndorff will take care of that when they meet Idol and Mascaras. Superstar says that some fans compare him to Mascaras, simply because they both wear a mask, but their reasons for doing so are very different. He wears the mask for privacy reasons, because he doesn’t want these idiot fans mobbing him everywhere he goes. Mil Mascaras, on the other hand, wears his because he’s obviously a wanted fugitive, and if he were to take it off, he would be arrested and deported!
BARRY WINDHAM beats STEVE BORDEN. Windham gets the win after hitting the Bulldog.
“THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL beats HARLEY RACE. Idol looks even more determined than ever after his loss to Orndorff for the North American title. Race takes control in the early going, after hitting a low blow, but he can’t put Idol away. The Universal Hearthrob eventually takes over, and after softening up Race’s knee, Idol locks on the Las Vegas Leglock for the submission win.
Reynolds and Montez wrap things up, and Reynolds hypes next week’s show, where we’ll see footage of the Fantastics beating the Freebirds for the North American tag team titles, and Bobby Heenan will apparently be throwing a “victory celebration” for Paul Orndorff.
