UNIVERSAL WRESTLING ENTERPRISE presents
Superstars of the Ring
Taped: Tuesday, August 28
Airing: Friday, August 31
Sacramento, California
Gene Okerlund: Welcome to another decision of Superstars of the Ring. We have a great show for you this evening. In our huge main event, the Killer Bees will meet Ron Bass and Colonel Debeers. Tonight, you will also see Billy Jack Haynes against Matt Bourne. Al Perez meets the popular cowboy Scott Casey, and Greg Valentine takes on Steve Simpson.
Fans, we are just days away from one the biggest cards in a wrestling history. This Sunday night, at the world famous Forum, the UWE presents the Last Battle in LA. So many feuds that have been boiling over all Summer are coming to an end. In the main event, Roddy Piper will defend his world title against Jake “the Snake” Roberts. Fans in attendance will also see Magnum TA meet Greg Valentine in a Loser Leave Town match, the Rock and Roll Express defend their newly won world titles against the Wild Samoans, Junkyard Dog will take on his hated rival Colonel Debeers in a match where the loser becomes the winner’s servant for a day, Tommy Rich against Ron Bass, Jimmy Snuka versus Adrian Adonis, Billy Jack Haynes faces Al Perez, and in a new match we can announce tonight, the Killer Bees will take on the Army of Darkness.
You will hear from superstars throughout the evening as we get ready for this historic night of wrestling. One of those men who has a tough challenge at the Last Battle in LA is our first guest, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.
Jimmy Snuka: Adrian Adonis, listen closely, brother. You and your manager are in for a long night in Los Angeles. I’ve been a part of supercards my whole career. I know the excitement level is a little bigger, the intensity is stronger, the consequences are more severe. This is a chance to climb the ladder in the promotion, to rise in the pecking-order. Adrian Adonis is the Hollywood Television Champion. In Hollywood, in front of the wrestling fans, in front of the media, he gets beat.
Gene Okerlund: Jimmy Snuka is ready to take on the Hollywood Television Champion this Sunday night in LA! Let’s head to the ring for our first match of the evening as Billy Jack Haynes takes on Matt Bourne. Rod Tongaard and Dutch Savage are on the call.
Match #1
Billy Jack Haynes defeats Matt Bourne via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: A big win for Billy Jack Haynes as he prepares for his match against Latin Heartthrob Al Perez on Sunday night. Our next guest will be challenging for the world heavyweight title this weekend against his nemesis Roddy Piper. We are joined by Jake “the Snake” Roberts.
Jake Roberts: We’ve gone back and forth all Summer, Piper. You’ve cheated your way to wins, you’ve weaseled your way to keeping the belt. That’s my belt you’ve been holding. Something about a snake, they don’t give up, if they don’t get their prey their first time, they find a way to get it next time. We are going to be inside of a steel cage, the unforgiving steel that will lock us in. The unforgiving steel will be the snake’s den that concludes in your demise. Sunday night, the Last Battle in LA will be your last night as champion.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: Sunday night, the Wild Samoans get a chance to win back the titles they lost a few weeks ago in Denver. Joining us now are the former champs and their manager Captain Lou Albano.
Captain Lou Albano: Those Rock and Roll pretty boys stole our belts back in Denver. They got lucky, they won the lottery, they had their four-leaf clover that night. That luck runs out in Los Angeles. These beasts behind me, these men are savages who show no mercy. You’ve seen the carnage they’ve caused before. Now they’re mad, now they’re angry, they want their belts back. You thoughts these men were out control before, you haven’t seen nothing yet.
Gene Okerlund: The Wild Samoans are determined to win back the world titles. Let’s head to the ring for our next match of the evening as the Latin Heartthrob Al Perez is in action against Cowboy Scott Casey.
Match #2
Al Perez defeats Cowboy Scott Casey via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: Al Perez looks at the top of his game and this Sunday’s nights match with Billy Jack Haynes is going to be a war! Another war will take place when our next guest meets Colonel Debeers in a match where the loser has to be the winner’s servant for a day. Please welcome Junkyard Dog.
Junkyard Dog: Colonel Debeers, you better get ready, boy. This Sunday night, there will be some jive-talking, soul-shaking, bootie whooping coming your way. You’ve gone and bad-mouthed me all over these airwaves, saying things about me and my people. You pay this Sunday night, and then you pay again as my servant. I have some places down in Watts, down in Compton, some real nice places where I’m going to take you after I win. And I dare you, dare you, to talk that mess you come here saying when we’re there.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: Greg Valentine and Magnum TA have had the most vicious, brutal feud this sport has seen in some time. That feud comes to an end this Sunday night as the loser of their match has to leave the UWE. Here to talk about his big contest is Magnum TA.
Magnum TA: Greg Valentine, it’s been you and I all Summer. You and I spilling blood, sweat and tears all over the country, all over the airwaves for this ESPN audience. But all that don’t matter now. What matters is what happens this Sunday night at the Forum in Los Angeles. This Sunday night when we both our careers on the line. This Sunday night when I rid the UWE of Greg Valentine once and for all. They say it’s not about wining the battle, it’s about winning the war. The war will be won this Sunday in LA. For all the great fans of the UWE, I vow, I’m winning this war.
Match #3
Greg Valentine defeats Steve Simpson via submission. The Hammer will not release the figure-four until Magnum TA rushes to the ring. They fight until security intervenes.
Gene Okerlund: We see the level of intensity that will be on display this Sunday night in LA when Magnum TA meets Greg Valentine with their careers on the line. Our next guests will have their world tag team belts on the line. Joining us now are the Rock and Roll Express.
Ricky Morton: Rock and Roll is here to stay, jack. Winning those world titles wasn’t some kind of accident. It was the result of hard work, preparation and determination. We had a plan for beating the Wild Samoans and we carried out that plan. We are the tag-team champions of the world and there ain’t nothing Captain Lou and his goons can do about it.
Robert Gibson: We worked too hard to win these belts and we don’t plan on losing them anytime soon. What happened in Denver, when the Wild Samoans were pinned 1..2..3. That’s what’s going to happen again in Los Angeles. The City where stars are made, the city where legends are born, where idols are created. LA is a rock and roll city, daddy, and the Rock and Roll Express are leaving there as world champs!
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: This Sunday night, inside of a steel cage, Roddy Piper and Jake Roberts meet again. We are honored to be joined by the heavyweight champion of the world, Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper: It all comes down to this. Two men, steel cage surrounding the ring, the world heavyweight title on the line. This is going to be the biggest spectacle Hollywood has ever seen. Ghostbusters, Gremlins, all those are just warm up acts for the real show, two men walking into the steel cage, one man walking out as champion. The time for talk is over Jake Roberts. You’ve had your say. Sunday night, in Los Angles, I’ll have my say in the middle of the ring. I’m leaving the Forum the same way I came in: with the world title belt around my waist.
Gene Oklerlund: The heavyweight champion of the world is all business and ready for this challenge on Sunday night. Let’s head to the ring for our main event of the evening.
Match #4
The Killer Bees fight Ron Bass and Colonel Debeers to a double-DQ when the fight heads to the ring apron. Bass and Debeers use foreign objects to attack their opponents after the match, continuing their assault until Tommy Rich and Junkyard Dog make the save.
Gene Okerlund: These men don’t like each other, which should add an extra layer of intensity come Sunday night. Tune in next week as we will have a complete rundown of the Last Battle in LA. And don’t forget for those of your who can’t make the show, you can get live updates by calling 1-900-UWE-NEWS. Till next week wrestling fans!
