Gene Okerlund: Welcome to another edition of Superstars of the Ring. Do we have an amazing show for you tonight! The Latin Heartthrob Al Perez will take on the tough Cowboy Scott Casey, Junkyard Dog faces Black Bart, the Sheepherders take on the Puerto Rican stars the Invaders, and in our huge main event, the Killer Bees meet the Army of Darkness
Last Sunday night in Portland was a wild night of wrestling at the second Festival of Champions. We’ll recap the results throughout the night. In the main event, Roddy Piper faced off against Jesse Ventura in a match that saw Jake Roberts interfere and work with Ventura to administer a brutal beating on the world champion. In other big matches, the Rock and Roll Express defeated the Sheepherders to earn the #1 contender spot and shot at the world title. Even though the Festival of Champions just ended in Portland, it’s not too soon to start thinking about the next Festival of Champion which will take place on August 12 in Denver, Colorado at the Auditorium Arena. Here to talk about all the big events happening in the UWE is Commissioner Lord James Blears.
Lord James Blears: I want to remind all our great fans in the Rocky Mountain region that on August 12 at the Denver Coliseum is the third Festival of Champions. At this huge event will be the first Blockbuster Battle, a two-ring battle royal with the winner to earn $250,000. With a huge prize like that we have wrestlers from all over the world seeking to be on the card. In addition to the Blockbuster Battle, we will have two world title matches on the card as well. Jake Roberts’ 30-day suspension will expire by the time we get to Denver. Roddy Piper has demanded that he get a match against Jake Roberts and we are more than happy to comply. In addition, the Rock and Roll Express will face the Sheepherders for the world tag-team titles. We will continue to update the huge Denver card over the next few weeks.
Gene Okerlund: We’re done with one supercard and it’s already time to start thinking of the next one, August 12 in Denver, Colorado. The Blockbuster Battle has the wrestling world buzzing, and there will also be two world title matches. We will hear from both Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper later in the program.
Let’s head to the ring for our first match of the night, as Al Perez, coming off a big win against Tito Santana in Portland, faces the popular cowboy Scott Casey. Take it away Rod Trongard and Dutch Savage.
Match #1
The Latin Heartthrob Al Perez defeated Scott Casey via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: Al Perez is on quite a run lately as Scott Casey falls victim to the Latin Heartthrob. One of the most brutal matches at the Festival of Champions in Portland was Magnum TA against Greg Valentine, a match that saw Valentine score the victory. We will hear from Magnum TA next week, but joining us now is Greg “the Hammer” Valentine.
Greg Valentine: I told you boy. You ain’t no match for someone like me. You got lucky the first time we met at the Festival. Your luck ran out. You’re playing in my sandbox now son. What happened to you in Portland is going to happen every single time we step in the ring. Whether it’s in Denver, Los Angeles, anywhere you are dumb enough to get in the ring with me you will be leaving on a stretcher. Magnum TA may have been the golden boy, but he ain’t nothing but a fallen star now daddy.
---Commercial Break---
Last weekend in Portland, the Rock and Roll Express defeated the Sheepherders to claim the #1 contender spot. Joining us now is the team who challenge for the tag-team belts in Denver, the Rock and Roll Express.
Ricky Morton: Rock and Roll is coming for the Samoans, daddy. Those Sheepherders thought they could take us down in Portland, they messed with the wrong boys. With the fans in our corner we came out in top and earned that #1 title contender spot. In Denver, among the Rocky Mountains, we are going to win the world tag team titles. Once we do, Denver is going to have the biggest rock and roll party that City has ever seen!
Robert Gibson: Look here Captain Lou Albano, you’ve messed in our business too many times. I gotta warning for you: keep to yourself when we meet those Samoans at the next Festival. Because when we get them in the ring, one on one, there ain’t no way the handle the power of the rock and roll nation!
Gene Okerlund: The Rock and Roll Express are already fired up for their world title shot in Denver at the Festival of Champions. Let’s head to the ring for our next match as Junkyard Dog is in action. JYD was the victor against Colonel Debeers in a violent dog-collar match in Portland. Let’s the Dog in action.
Match #2
Junkyard Dog defeats Black Bart via pinfall. After the match, Colonel Debeers comes to the ring to taunt JYD. Security intervenes before trouble ensues.
The war between Junkyard Dog and Colonel Debeers is far from over. Joining us now is the man who hopes to take the world heavyweight title in Denver, Jake “the Snake” Roberts.
Gene Okerlund: You and your friend Jesse Ventura did quite the number on Roddy Piper in Portland. If it was up they would extend your suspension.
Jake Roberts: Good thing it’s not up to you then. Instead you’re the person who stands there and hold the microphone. So control your hands and make sure the mic is at the right angle. What happened in Portland is all part of the long game, the goal of winning the most prestigious world title in the sport. Like a trilogy, this movie we’re in Piper is not over. Chapter 1, you lucked into a victory. Chapter 2, you get the beating you deserve, Chapter 3, I take what is rightfully mine, the world heavyweight championship. There ain’t no changes in the script, there won’t be some surprise ending. Instead, what people think is going to happen is exactly what’s going to happen: I will beat you in Denver, your title reign will end, the biggest title in all of wrestling will be around my waist.

At the Festival of Champions in Portland, it was a tough night for the Sheepherders, as they lost their match to the Rock and Roll Express and Jesse Barr got the better of Rip Morgan. We have just been informed that next week, in our main event, Rip Morgan and Jesse Barr will meet in our main event. Joining us now are the Sheepherders.
Rip Morgan: What is happening here in the UWE is outrageous. The officials, the board of directors, everyone is against us. We have no choice but to take matters into our own hands. Jesse Barr should not have stuck his nose in our match. That was the worst mistake you have ever mad. Next week, in the main event, I will destroy you. Plain and simple. And these maniacs, they are holding nothing back as they destroy anyone in their path. Whether it’s the Killer Bees, the Rising Stars, the Rock and Roll Express, you thought we were crazy before, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Gene Okerlund: The Sheepherders are on a mission to get back in the title hunt. They are in action in our next match.
Match #3
The already maniacal Sheepherders show an extra level of insanity as they defeat the Invaders (FA) via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: In Portland, Jimmy Snuka scored a big win over Bad News Allen. We have received word that Bad News Allen has given his notice and is no longer an active wrestler in the UWE. Here to talk about his big match at the Festival and what the future holds, please welcome Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.
Jimmy Snuka: How’s the old saying go? The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Bad News Allen was about as big as they come. And fell. Hard. The experts thought he was too big for me to handle, that he would overpower me. He’s the one who ended up beaten on the mat. Bad News is gone from these parts, not it’s time to continue the rise of the Superfly. In Denver, we’re going to be fighting for $250,000. That’s a lot of money, jack. I’ll do my best to win the Blockbuster Battle and take down anyone else who wants to cross my path. I put my career on the line for you fans each and every week, that’s something that won’t stop.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: Before we get to our huge main event, we are joined by the heavyweight champion of the world, Rowdy Roddy Piper. Champ, Ventura and Roberts really came after you in Portland. You get a chance for revenge in Denver on August 12.
Roddy Piper: This is about more than revenge Geno, this is about honor, this about standing up for what’s right. In Portland, my hometown, where I got my start, Jesse Ventura and Jake Roberts double-teamed me, left me a bloody mess. In front of my people, I was left there on the ground. For all those fans in Portland, for all of you watching in tv-land, I will make this right. Jake Roberts won’t get away with it. I begged Lord Blears to reinstate Jake Roberts because I want him in the ring now. Roberts says this is a trilogy? In this trilogy I stay the world champion after episode one, after episode two, and after episode three, after every damn episode they make.
Gene Okerlund: Roddy Piper wants Jake Roberts in the ring ASAP! He’ll get his chance in Denver on August 12. Let’s head to the ring for our big main event as the Killer Bees take on the Army of Darkness. The Bees lost in their title match in Portland against the Wild Samoans. Let’s see if they can get back on track tonight.
Match #4
The Army of Darkness and the Killer Bees battle to a double countout.
Gene Okerlund: What a wild match to end the night. Would you expect anything else from the UWE? Join us next week as Rip Morgan takes on Jesse Barr in a huge main event, and we’ll see the debut of a new wrestler in the UWE. We’ll see you next week!
---Show ends---
---Matches not taped for television---
Match #5
Billy Jack Haynes defeated Colonel Debeers via DQ.
Match #6
Ron Bass defeated Tito Santana via pinfall when used an illegal object outside of the view of the ref.
Match #7
Roddy Piper and the Rock and Roll Express defeated the Wild Samoans and Greg Valentine via DQ for outside interference when Captain Lou Albano interrupted one too many pinfall attempts.
