Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV
Saturday May 06, 1988
Taped Friday May 05, 1988 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Ballroom
Hosted by Les Thatcher & Johnny Weaver
Interviews on this show:
- Promoter Ron Fuller drew the name of this week's TV Title challenger, and it was Todd Champion. Nelson Royal defends against Todd Champion later.
- Scott Armstrong, Johnny Rich, and Phil Hickerson were out to talk about the wild fight last Wednesday night with The Wild Bunch, and the fight they'll have again this coming Wednesday night at the Civic Auditorium in Kingsport.
- Sam Houston talked about how he could no believe his friend and mentor Nelson Royal turned his back on him just for some money. He said he'll have payback soon.
- The Rock & Roll Express brought promoter Ron Fuller out to request a special match against The Jive Tones and Ron Wright. Since Wright keeps interfering, and cost them the tag team titles this past Wednesday, they want a match where Ron Wright has to wear a straight jacket for the match to keep him from interfering! Fuller agreed to the stipulation. The Rock & Rolls had a straight jacket with them, and Ricky Morton was doing a demonstration as to how effective it will be keeping Wright from interfering. As he got the jacket on and couldn't move, The Jive Tones attacked! They knocked down Robert with a shot with the title belt, and then beat the crap out of Morton while he was stuck in the straight jacket, with Ron Wright getting a few kicks in as well. Several wrestlers from the back ran them off and tended to the Rock and Roll Express.
- Ivan Koloff talked about Vladimir Pietrov's open challenge this Wednesday night for any man to face him, and how Pietrov is the most dominant wrestler in the world.
- "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan talked about beating Orndorff in a non-title match last week, and this Wednesday night, he's got him in another match with the belt on the line this time.
- Manager Ron Wright gloated about the attack on the Rock and Roll Express earlier and said this Wednesday night, his Jive Tones will finish the job!
- The Bullet said that The Mongolian Stomper don't like to wrestle by the rules, but that was fine by him. How about they just throw out the rule book and fight until there is only one man left standing!
Matches on the show:
- Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions, The Jive Tones w/ Ron Wright def. Joey Maggs and Rex King.
- "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan beat Pat Rose.
- "Beat the Champ" TV Champion Nelson Royal def. Todd Champion, retaining the title and winning another $1000.
- The Wild Bunch, Black Bart & The Deatons, lost to Terry Snuka, Jimmy Backlund, and Rocky Kernodle when Phil Hickerson, Scott Armstrong, and Johnny Rich came to ringside to taunt them, leading to Snuka hitting a cross body block from the top rope on a distracted David Deaton for the pin.
