THURSDAY, MAY 4, 1988
CHICAGO STADIUM
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
Larry Nelson welcomes everyone in attendance to the home of the Blackhawks and the Bulls, the “Madhouse on Madison”, for a night of action-packed AWA wrestling!
JOHNNY GUNN beats THE MASKED SUPER ASSASSIN by pinfall in the opening bout.
BOB BACKLUND & BRAD RHEINGANS defeat “PLAYBOY” BUDDY ROSE & RIP “CRIPPLER” OLIVER. Despite the constant cheating from the Rose and Oliver team, Backlund and Rheingans rely on their impressive technical wrestling skills to get the win, when Rheingans pins Oliver with a bridging Cradle suplex.
BIG VAN VADER (w/Gen. Skandor Akbar) beats MANDO GUERRERO. Mando is no stranger to the Chicago wrestling fans, and he gives a good showing of himself here, giving Vader one of the tougher matches he’s had since coming to the AWA. But in the end, the monster from the Rockies gets the win, driving Mando into the mat with a vicious powerbomb for the 1, 2, 3!
STAN HANSEN & KING KONG BRODY defeat WAHOO MCDANIEL & “SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA. Four of the toughest men in wrestling face off in this match. Wahoo and Snuka have both been involved in some real slobberknockers here in Chicago over the years, and Hansen and Brody are two of the most feared men in the entire sport! That doesn’t seem to matter to Wahoo and Snuka, as they go toe to toe with Hansen and Brody right from the opening bell. The fans in attendance are treated to nearly 20 minutes of some of the hardest-hitting wrestling they’re ever likely to witness! Hansen and Brody both have deep red welts on their chests, courtesy of Wahoo’s famous chops, but that didn’t slow them down, and in the end, Hansen gets the win for his team, hitting Snuka with a devastating Lariat! Hansen covers Snuka for the 3-count, while Brody brawls with Wahoo.
After the bout, Hansen grabs the house mic from ring announcer Larry Nelson. Hansen demands that “those two pretty boy pukes, the Fantastics, come out and face them!” Nelson takes the mic back, and informs Stan that the Tag Team champs aren’t in Chicago tonight.
ONE MAN GANG (w/Gen. Skandor Akbar) defeats ICEMAN PARSONS. Parsons gives it his all here, but the size and strength of the massive Gang is just too much for him to overcome. Gang hits the 747 Splash for the pinfall victory.
After the match, Gang hits the Splash two more times, and Parsons leaves the ring on a stretcher.
SGT. SLAUGHTER beats MR. SAITO (w/Gen. Skandor Akbar). Slaughter gets the win after a hard-hitting, back and forth match, when he connects with the Slaughter Cannon for the pinfall.
ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER (w/ General Skandor Akbar) beats AWA Champion “DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS by Disqualification. Williams enters the ring to a loud ovation, removes the AWA title belt, and charges across the ring, pouncing on the Butcher! That sets the tone for the rest of the match, as Williams doesn’t let up, tearing into the Butcher with reckless abandon. Abby fights back, delivering a jab to the throat that drops Williams to his knees, gasping for air. Abby stays on the offensive, repeatedly kicking Williams in the head! Williams takes a ton of punishment at the hands of the Butcher over the next several minutes, but he won’t stay down. Williams fights his way up to his knees, then explodes to his feet with a vicious clothesline. Abby staggers, but doesn’t go down! Williams runs the ropes, and hits another clothesline, this time dropping the Butcher to the mat.
Williams has the upper hand, so Abby resorts to his usual tricks, and out comes the trusty fork! He jabs Williams with it a few times . . . BUT WILLIAMS FIGHTS THE FORK AWAY FROM ABBY!! WILLIAMS HAS THE BUTCHER’S FORK!!!
Williams repeatedly jabs Abby in the forehead with the fork, right in front of the referee, which leads to the ref disqualifying Williams. Williams doesn’t seem to care, he keeps jabbing Abdullah with the fork, drawing blood from Abby’s forehead. Several referees come out to separate the two men, but they eventually get tossed aside. Finally, the locker rooms empty, and the wrestlers are finally able to separate Doc and Abby.
