AMERICAN WRESTLING ASSOCIATION CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR!
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, DECEMBER 25, 1987
BROWN COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL ARENA
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN
IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Kuniaki Kobayashi battles Shiro Koshinaka to a time-limit DRAW at 15:00. Two of the top Jr. Heavyweights in the world get things started in the opening bout. Kobayashi defends the IWGP Jr. title against top contender and former champion, Koshinaka. They start out on the mat, but quickly take the match to the air, with Kobayashi knocking Koshinaka out of the ring, then hitting a baseball slide that sends Shiro into the guardrail, and Kobayashi then dives over the top rope onto his opponent. Koshinaka shows off his shoot fighting background as well, hitting a series of vicious kicks that leave the champion flat on his back on the mat! Koshinaka hits his the Samurai Driver ’84, but the bell rings before he can get the pinfall. Larry Nelson announces that the match is a draw. Both men shake hands afterwards.
U.S. Women’s Champion Winona Little Heart beats Leilani Kai to retain the title when Kai went for a suplex, but Little Heart slips out of her grasp, and rolls Kai up for the pinfall victory.
Nord the Viking (w/ General Skandor Akbar) beats Baron von Raschke. Von Raschke is a tough customer, but the Viking is unfazed by the Baron’s offence, and eventually connects with a top-rope kneedrop for the pinfall.
“Playboy” Buddy Rose & “Crippler” Rip Oliver beat Brian Pillman & Steve Doll. After several minutes of back and forth action, Rose hits Pillman with the Las Vegas Jackpot DDT for the pinfall.
“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka & Iceman King Parsons beat The New Zealand Sheepherders. The Sheepherders pounce on Parsons as soon as the bell sounds, and pummel him, but Snuka helps Parsons turn the tables. The referee has his hands full here, as the Sheepherders seem to have no interest in tagging in and out, they’d rather both of them stay in the ring at the same time! In the end, as Parsons brawls with Butch Miller outside the ring, Snuka drops Luke Williams with a leaping headbutt, then delivers the Superfly Splash for the pinfall.
Mr. Saito (w/ General Skandor Akbar) beats Ron Simmons. Simmons gives Saito a tough match, and doesn’t back down from “Mr. Torture” at all. Simmons has the potential to be a future superstar, but on this night, he falls in defeat to the more experienced Saito. After a hard-hitting affair, Saito drops Simmons with the Saito Suplex for the 1, 2, 3.
Dick Slater & Ole Anderson beat AWA World Tag Team Champions “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Maniac” Matt Borne (w/ Percival Pringle III) by Disqualification. The challengers have the match well in hand after a real slobberknocker, but as Slater locks Borne in the Figure-4, Sawyer jumps off the top rope, with the chain that he carries to the ring wrapped around his fist, and drives it into the back of Slater’s head. With Slater out cold, Sawyer and Borne use the chain to pummel Ole Anderson, until a group of babyfaces hit the ring to make the save.
“Dr. Death” Steve Williams & Terry Taylor beat “Ravishing” Rick Rude & “Hacksaw” Butch Reed (w/ Percival Pringle III). This is a wild one, that sees Williams and Taylor get the win when Williams plants Rude with the Oklahoma Stampede for the 1, 2, 3!

“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka beats “Playboy” Buddy Rose with the Superfly splash.
“Hacksaw” Butch Reed (w/ Percival Pringle III) beats AWA World TV Champion Terry Taylor to win the title. The match was a back and forth affair and could’ve gone either way. In the end, Taylor has the upper hand, but Percy Pringle climbs up on the apron and distracts the champion. This gives Reed the opportunity to go to the top rope, and when Taylor turns his attention back to Reed, the Hacksaw comes off the top rope with the diving shoulderblock and gets the pinfall. The fall comes at 14:55, just five seconds before the time limit for TV title matches.
AWA World Champion “Ravishing” Rick Rude (w/ Percival Pringle III) battles “Dr. Death” Steve Williams to a time-limit DRAW. Neither man can put the other away within the 30-minute time limit, and the match is declared a draw. The two continue to fight for several minutes after the bell, until referees and a group of wrestlers are finally able to separate them.
Dick Slater & Ole Anderson beat AWA World Tag Team Champions “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Maniac” Matt Borne (w/ Percival Pringle III) to win the titles when, as Borne holds Anderson, Sawyer attempts to hit Ole with his chain, while Percy Pringle distracts the referee. Ole moves out of the way, and Sawyer KO’s Borne with the chain instead! Anderson knocks a shocked Mad Dog out of the ring, and as the referee turns his attention back to the match, Anderson covers Borne for the 1, 2, 3 and we’ve got NEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!!!!
