Airdate: Saturday evening, December 24, 1987
Broadcast nationwide on Superstation WGN
Taped on December 22 at the International Ampitheater in Chicago, IL
We see footage of last week’s show, where Dick Slater introduced Ole Anderson as his new tag team partner, then footage of the final moments of the match between the two teams.
Rod Trongard opens the show, and welcomes his co-host, Magnum TA.
They hype the main event of the evening, as Steve Williams squares off with “Hacksaw” Butch Reed!
Trongard and Magnum are joined by Dick Slater and Ole Anderson. They talk about the win last week, and promise to take the AWA Tag titles from Sawyer and Borne tomorrow night at the Met Center.
DICK SLATER & OLE ANDERSON VS. THE MASKED MAULERS. Slater and Anderson make short work of their masked opponents, as Slater uses the Figure-4 leglock to force one of the Maulers to submit.
MR. SAITO (w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) VS. ICEMAN PARSONS. Parsons gives “Mr. Torture” his first real test since coming to the AWA, but in the end, Parsons falls in defeat, as Saito connects with the Saito Suplex for the 1, 2, 3.
Trongard and Magnum run down the big cards tomorrow in Green Bay and Bloomington. Tomorrow afternoon, fans in Green Bay will see “Dr. Death” Steve Williams team up with TV champ Terry Taylor to face AWA champion Rick Rude and Butch Reed, and Ole Anderson & Dick Slater will challenge Buzz Sawyer & Matt Borne for the World Tag titles. Then tomorrow night at the Met Center in Bloomington, Williams will challenge Rude for the World title, Taylor will defend the TV title against Reed, and there will be a rematch between Slater & Ole and Sawyer & Borne for the tag titles.
We then go to a highlight video of World TV champion Terry Taylor!
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
“MAD DOG” BUZZ SAWYER & “MANIAC” MATT BORNE (Champs) (w/ Percival Pringle III) VS. BRIAN PILLMAN & STEVE DOLL. Pillman and Doll give the champions a tough match, but in the end, Sawyer and Borne get the win when Sawyer hits Pillman with a vicious powerslam for the 1, 2, 3.
“DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS VS. “HACKSAW” BUTCH REED (w/ Percival Pringle III). Early in the match, Percy Pringle gets involved, tripping Doc as he runs the ropes. This brings Terry Taylor out to confront Percy. A moment later, Buzz Sawyer and Matt Borne rush out and attack Taylor, but Dick Slater and Ole Anderson arrive on the scene to make the save! Rick Rude makes his way out to give the Pringle Dynasty the advantage, and we’ve got a huge brawl on our hands!
They make their way into the ring, with Williams and Reed getting involved, and the referee has no choice to throw the match out!
As Williams, Taylor, Slater and Anderson clear the ring, Williams takes the house mic and challenges the Dynasty to come back into the ring and they can settle this right here and now!
Reed, Rude, Sawyer and Borne all climb back up onto the ring apron, and referee Randy Anderson calls for the bell . . . we’ve got an impromptu 8-man tag team match right here on television!
STEVE WILLIAMS & TERRY TAYLOR & DICK SLATER & OLE ANDERSON VS. RICK RUDE & BUTCH REED & BUZZ SAWYER & MATT BORNE (w/ Percival Pringle III). There’s only a few minutes left in the TV show as this match begins, although it’s more of a brawl than anything, as we see four, five, six, sometimes all eight guys in the ring at the same time!
After about 6 or 7 minutes of wild action, Trongard tells us that we’re out of time for this week, and he and Magnum remind the fans in Green Bay and Minneapolis to get out and get their tickets for the events tomorrow, if they haven’t done so already.
